DYLAN

I and Max sat outside the room in which Jordan was sleeping in, the silence
was broken by Sarah.

"So are we going to talk about this?" she asked, I'm not sure if she had
read our minds or if it was just that obvious.

"Not now, nobody goes in that room." Max quickly answered staring at the
floor and rubbing his chin.

"But he could be-"Sarah began but immediately stopped as she fell under
Max's glare.

"Not yet" he repeated with no tone in his voice "I'm going to bed, you okay
with taking first watch Dyl?" I nodded and laid back in my chair as I
watched Sarah and Max walked to the corners of the building and into their
rooms – although Sarah was more of a limp. After about 30 minutes of
contemplating the past, present and future I could hear movement in
Jordan's room, I swiftly pulled the door open and stepped inside the room.
Jordan was half off of the bed and with barely any strength couldn't make
it any further; I ran immediately to him and held him up.

"And where do you think you're going?" I smiled knowing he had no chance of
getting two steps out of this room in the condition he was in.

"Can sleep, my chest is killing me" he answered rubbing his torso with his
hand.

"Want a drink?" I asked trying to be as helpful as possible.

"Nah I'm fine" he said as he continued to try and stand up, I put my arm on
his shoulder and put some weight on it so he fell backwards and flopped
back onto the bed.

"You need to stay put Mr." I smiled he gave out a croaky groan and
playfully batted my hands away. I was about to say goodnight and leave but
I saw something wrong with his eyes, maybe it was just the fact it was 3am
and the room was filled with darkness. I slide over the bed reaching over
Jordan and turned the lamp on by his bedside, he winced at the brightness,
mirroring the look I saw on his face when he was chained to the metal
table.

"Ugh what are you doing" he croaked as I cradled his face in my hands and
tried to get a better look at his eyes, which was impossible, because they
were too busy being closed trying to avoid the light.

"Jord, open your eyes a sec" I politely demanded

"I can't it's too bright, it hurts my eyes" he pleaded

"Just for a second, then I'll turn the lamp off okay?" I asked, he nodded
and slowly opened his eyes, I know Max said to leave it to tomorrow but I
have to know now. His eyes had opened completely and my heart dropped,
adrenaline and panic rushed through me. I was no longer looking into his
dark-blue eyes, it had all been replaced by darkness. Jet black like the
blood the abominations pumped into him.

"What's the matter? Is something wrong Dylan?" he asked with worry over his
face.

"Darkling" I murmured to myself trying to avoid eye contact.

"huh?" he responded "what's a darkling?". Shit he heard me. I began to
leave but felt a cold hand on my hand "please, don't go, it's horrible
sitting in the dark alone" he pleaded, her certainly sounded like himself.

"Fine, but if Max finds out I'm blaming you" I smiled as he moved his legs
over beneath the sheets to allow me to sit on the bed. He dropped the whole
darkling thing, laid back and closed his eyes. I leant over his still body
and turned the lamp off whilst still holding his cold hand. Could it be
possible that he could still be normal with darkling blood coursing through
his veins? His breathing steadied after a while, I guess he was fast
asleep, I didn't want to risk waking him so I just rested my head next to
his leg whilst still stretching one hand above my head which was
preoccupied with stroking his and drifted off to sleep.

JORDAN

I awoke in my new room and yawned, allowing my eyes to scan the room, the
walls were white, again – how boring. It was pretty empty, other than a
black lamp on my bedside and a shelf with nothing on it in the corner.

"Is he awake?" I heard Max say outside, the door opened and my eyelids
closed, I'm not even sure why I was trying to hide the fact I'm awake. I
heard the door click close and I slowly opened my eyes again. I threw the
sheets off of me revealing some morning wood then pushed my legs off the
bed and winced at the pain of moving my body. I looked down inspecting my
own injuries, there were circular marks around my ankles and wrists where I
had been pinned down. I began to walk towards the door taking 10 seconds
breaks each step to adjust to the pain, every part of me was sore, although
my lips and hands seemed fine thanks to Max and Dylan.

"Okay don't be mad but I checked Jordan last night" I heard Dylan say with
urgency and worry.

"I told you not to!" I heared Max respond with anger in his voice.

"I know but I needed to know, WE needed to know" Dylan continued

"You couldn't wait? You had to poke and prod at him after he's gone through
torture only days ago?!" his voice was raising more, if I wasn't already
awake, I'm sure I would've been now.

"I didn't poke and prod at him, I only checked his eyes that is it" Dylan
said raising his voice to equal Max's. I'm not sure if I opened the door at
a good time but if I hadn't I think they might have stated going for each
other's throats.

"Can you stop fighting?" I said I rubbed my eyes adjusting to a lighter
room.

"C'mere" Max said, his face full of anger and fear, he stood in front of me
and was about 6"2, 4 inches taller than me, he put his hands on each side
on my face and peered into my eyes – seriously, what is it with these guys
and touching my face, not that I'm complaining at all. He got so close I
almost thought he was going to kiss me again, but he backed away and turned
back to Dylan "Darkling huh? Is this a joke? There is no black in his
eyes!" Max shouted. Darkling? That's what Dylan mumbled last night I
thought. Max's fists were clenched by his sides now, Dylan looked
surprised, pushed Max out of the way and assumed the `Almost-kiss'
position.

"I swear they were black last night" Dylan said with sureness.

"Are on of you going to tell me what's going on or are you just going to
keep looking at my eyes" I asked looking at both Max and Dylan.

"Giagm that are converted into one of them are called Darklings, their
powers become dark and shit like that, they become rotten to the core, but
if you were one of them, we would know by now" answered Max as he slouched
on a nearby sofa with relief all over his face.

"Oh lovely" I said sarcastically "where's Sarah"

"Getting some food and drink for us" Smiled Dylan, still looking at my eyes
a lot.

"Thank god, I'm starving" I said as I moved over to the sofa and slowly
sat down trying to avoid the pain which turned out to be inevitable. Dylan
ported over in a split second and helped me sit, Max seemed a bit
disappointed since he half-moved to help.

"How are you feeling?" asked Max as he made himself comfortable again.

"Sore, headache, thirsty, acheing bones yada yada" I smiled trying not to
sound too depressing.

"But other than that you're fine? He continued

"Oh god no, I'm not anywhere near fine, but I'm coping" I sighed "So about
my abilities, how long do I have to wait until I can kick your asses" I
smiled, they immediately pounced. Dylan teleporting away somewhere and Max
standing up with a grin on his face, a bright flash occurred behind me,
immediately followed by arms grabbing me wrists and holding them behind my
back. I was overcome with an overwhelming feeling of rage and hate, it felt
almost as if I was taking a back seat in regards to controlling and feeling
my body and watched in horror as I broke free of Dylan's grip, raised my
arm and sent them both into the nearest wall, I wanted to stop but I
couldn't, it was like I was disconnected from controlling my body. I tilted
my head to the right and watched as wisps of shadow made their way towards
my guardians.
