Chapter 18.

WHAT DO YOU WANT??" Kyle yells into the night sky. It is his dream
again, and he wishes he had a better idea of what was coming.

"I want you to stop it," a hollow echoing voice replies. It is slow
and hesitant, as if it does not quite know what it is saying. Kyle turns
around, shocked that he has received an answer. Kyle sees a form standing
next to him. It's dark, like a shadowy outline with no substance, but it's
starting to become more defined.

"Stop what?" Kyle asks. Finally, he thinks; he is going to receive
an answer.

"It is hard...to say. It is far away... but is coming." Kyle feels
a sense of motion and distance...extreme distance. He thinks his early
idea about it being in space is making more sense now.

	"So what do I do?"

"You must stop it. It consumes everything it touches, everything
in its path." The voice is sounding more familiar now, and less strange.
It is also becoming more defined; arms beginning to take shape; legs
beginning to show.

"But how?" he asks, wishing whatever this thing was could talk
better.

"The... blue flame I gave you. It will help you to destroy this
thing."

"So it was YOU!!" Kyle replies, feeling glad he knows where his
power came from. "But who are you?" he continues.

"I am. I exist. In a path... around the sun." he says. What?
Wait. Was he a planet? Or like some sort of asteroid?

"You... live on me." THE EARTH? The earth was talking to him?
Kyle reels backward. Why him? Why Kyle?

	"So why me?"

	"You...are...the one. The genes...I had...begun molding...for
eons." Huh? Kyle doesn't know what to think. He is just Kyle, not some
special person.

"No. You are the final piece. The one I've waited for." The figure
is growing more human looking as it speaks, and soon it forms. It looked
like Jason.

"Jason?" Kyle asks, holding his hand up to touch the familiar body
in front of him. So real! But it wasn't Jason. Was it?

"This person was in your mind. He is important to you, is he not?"
Kyle nods in reply, too confused to speak.

"I thought conversing with you like this would easier for you. I
can change if you'd like," the strange Jason offers. Kyle is not sure what
to think of this, and then decides to deal with this part later.

"No; it's fine. So what am I supposed to do?" Kyle asks, hoping to
get more answers.

"Watch." The Not-Jason points to the sky. Suddenly everything is
empty, as if Kyle is floating in a void. He watches as the view zooms in
towards a star. No; a sun with planets orbiting it. Then
suddenly...something. Kyle is not sure what. He's not even sure what is
going on...but one of the planets goes dead. Lifeless. It floats
there...but it's like its dead. Then it slowly begins to erode, as if it's
being eaten away from the inside.

"What's causing it?" Kyle asks, his voice echoing in the darkness.

The not-quite Jason voice replies, echoing around him. " It has
been traveling through space, consuming everything it encounters. Watch."
Kyle watches in alarm as several smaller bits shoot off the planet as it's
being eaten, spreading outward across the system. Kyle cringes as he
realizes what will happen next.

Jason looked with horror at the collapsed form of his boyfriend.
Worry and pain ran through his body as he crouched in the hallway,
oblivious to the concerned voices around him. Kyle's body was lying at an
unnatural angle. Jason didn't think he'd twisted anything, but the way
Kyle's head was lying creeped him out.

"Jason." Jason shrugged it off as he held Kyle's head, trying to
get him to respond. "Jason!!" again, and this time it was followed by a
hand on his shoulder.

"Huh?" he asked confusedly as he stared down at Kyle's prone
body. He was covered in sweat, and his hair was matted to his head. Kyle
had mentioned his dreams lately and waking up in his own sweat. Was this
one of his dreams?

"We need to get him to the Nurse's office." Rick said, taking
charge. "Let's go. Steven, grab his arm. Josh, you grab the other
one. I'll get his feet, Jason watch his head." the four boys quickly
grabbed Kyle's body and began carrying it to the nurse's office, as
Michelle and Alex watched with worry.

Jason didn't know, but he thought Kyle should probably go to a
doctor. As far as he knew, he was the only one who knew about the heavy
night sweats Kyle had been having. And they'd been going on for
months. Maybe something was really wrong if he was doing it now in the
daytime.

Jason felt more worry course through him as he realized this was
way beyond him. How could he help Kyle? He wanted to help, wanted to do
something.

"Kyle...I love you," he whispered as he carried his lover's head.

************************************************************************************

Kyle could not believe the level of destruction he is
witnessing. "And this is coming towards our system?" he asks, wondering how
he can stop it. Those spores were HUGE. They were at least half the size
of the moon. He's not quite sure though, as he doesn't know what size the
planets are that he's looking at.

"Yes. I can feel...the pain echoing across space..." not-Jason
replies. They are back on the field now. Kyle feels more at home here, but
its still kind of creepy.

"Sounds kind of like Star wars," Kyle replies, thinking back to the
scene where Obi Wan says he felt the planet explode.

	"That...is...similar. The power I gave you...is...an
extension...of..." Kyle watches Not-Jason struggling to find the words.
Suddenly a wave of pain washes over him...so intense he can barely stand
it.

"What is this?" he whispers, clutching his chest as he falls to the
ground. "Why does it hurt so much?" He can't breath, the pain is so
great.

"It is what I feel...the echo of pain across the life...stream..."

************************************************************************************

Jason and his friends watched with concern as the nurse checked
Kyle. "His arms seem to be ok...but I think he may have hit his head
rather hard." Duh. Even Jason could tell that.

Then horror replaced worry as Kyle's body began to spasm. That
didn't look normal at all to Jason. "What's wrong?" he asked, his voice
almost in panic.

"I don't know; help me hold him down! We don't want him falling
and hurting himself again." It took all four boys and the two girls, plus
the nurse, to hold him down.

"Some sort of seizure?" Josh grunted, still wrestling with Kyle's
leg." We learned about them in health."

"Perhaps," the nurse said, fighting Kyle's right arm. Oh.
Seizure...that would make sense. But Jason didn't know of any seizure that
made a person sleep badly.

"Should we call the ambulance?" Alex asked, sounding worried but
calm. Jason wished he could sound that good; he was fighting himself not
to lose it, because he wouldn't be able to help Kyle if he lost it.

Then before the nurse could respond, Kyle exploded. Well, not
exactly; but it seemed like it. Jason felt realization war with disbelief,
as a blue aura seemed to explode from his boyfriend. Blonde hair replaced
brown, and Jason fought with the realization that his boyfriend was Kid
Rush.

Darkness replaced light as Jason fainted in the corner in which
he'd landed.

************************************************************************************

Kyle woke up, the pain suddenly shielded by his aura. AURA? Where
was he? He wasn't home. Kyle looked around and realized he was in the
nurse's office. And there, lying on the floor, were his friends and the
nurse.

"Jason?" he asked, his first thought for his boyfriend. He looked
at Jason's prone form, and immediately rushed to him. "Jason," he said,
wishing he could drop his aura. But if he did, that overwhelming pain
would consume him.

"Kyle...you...you're really him?" Alex found the words to speak.

"Yes. But we need to worry about Jason," he said. Right now he
wanted his boyfriend awake. They could worry about his super hero side
later.

"Of course," the nurse said, coming to her senses. Kyle liked her
from before when she'd helped Rick. She'd been really nice...down to
earth, and the gay thing didn't bother her at all. "Be glad I take the
doctor confidentiality thing seriously; I might be tempted to tell the
higher ups." She laughed as she helped Kyle pick Jason up and laid him on
the gurney.

"I think he'll be ok...he was just overwhelmed by you collapsing in
the hallway," she explained. "He'll wake up in another second or two.
Now," and here she looked at Kyle very directly, " please tell me what
happened?"

"I guess I collapsed. I had this dream." This was going to sound
weird to her. "It's going to sound weird...but it felt like a star had
exploded, and I felt the pain in my chest...that's when I woke up." The
sense of pain was fading now, which meant Kyle could drop his aura as soon
as it reached a tolerable level. "I can still sense the pain...beyond my
aura." The other boys and girls were looking at him as if he was a
stranger. Kyle wished he could deal with this right now, but he couldn't.
He had other things on his mind. If that was truly what was coming...their
planet was in trouble. And Only Kyle could stop it.

"Kyle..." Jason moaned as he stirred on the bed. "What happened?"
he asked, sitting up. "My head hurts for some reason," Jason said, looking
at Kyle.

*************************************************************************************

Jason couldn't believe it. There was HIS Kyle standing there,
blonde hair gleaming and blue aura shining brightly. Jason wasn't sure if
he should be angry, or happy, or what. He decided to run. He couldn't
deal with it; not right now. Kyle going from fainting to a seizure to
being a super hero; it was too much. Jason ran. Ran as fast as he could
out the door, through the offices, and down the hallway. He needed his
blade. He'd found a razor blade several months ago, and he'd sterilized it
several times with hot water.

It didn't occur to him that Kyle might catch up; he just needed to
get to his blade. Too many thoughts; too much pressure. The earlier weeks
of worry were finally catching up. He needed this; needed it now.

He skidded to a stop in front of his locker, relieved that the
hallway was almost empty by now. Jason quickly dialed the combination,
somewhat surprised that his fingers didn't fail him.

"Jason." Not now. He didn't want to talk to anyone now. He
needed his blade. "JASON."

"Go away!!" Jason said, ignoring the voice. He didn't' want to
talk to Kyle right now; he couldn't.

"No. Kyle sent me to tell you he knows you're looking for a
knife." Jason looked up, then, to see Rick standing there next to him.
Why would Kyle not come himself?

"Kyle couldn't come because if he turns off..." Here Rick looked
around at the several straggler students in the hallway. He whispered, "
If he turns off his aura, the pain will come back, and he'll be on the
floor again in spasms." Oh. Jason was torn. He needed to get back to
Kyle, needed to talk to him, but he wanted to cut.

"I know it's a lot to take in. but you can do it Jason. It's not
the end of the world." Rick said, grabbing Jason in a hug. Jason froze;
feeling shocked, and then started to cry. Jason found himself wrapping Rick
in his arms...needing something to hold on to...anything.

"I know I'm not Kyle, but I want to help," Rick whispered as Jason
collapsed onto the floor with Rick behind him, holding him the whole time.
But Jason couldn't hear him. He was busy shaking with sobs as he cried.

Dun dun dun!! Kinda of short I know, but who cares? I want to post
it now. I'm tired of taking forever to post. So there. Anyway... what do
you guys think about a special Xmas episode? *Looks around*

Thanks to my new reviewers and new friends. Jack smith, Grey star,
and someone else I forget. Sorry, I lost the email you sent me.

Editor's Note: The Wizard has asked me to comment on his work. I have been
editing this story, with the exception of chapter 17, almost from the
beginning; so will comment on the entire work to this point. I do a lot of
editing on the web, but at least 90% of it as anonymous so this is somewhat
of a challenge for me. I look for young authors with a very high level of
creative talent and then offer my editing skills to them. I strongly
believe that fiction needs to be presented in such a way that the reader
can "play the movie" without any effort, meaning that the reader should not
have to try and figure out what the author is trying to say. I have edited
for authors as young as 14 (see Boys of Lady Lex) -- and find the creative
imaginations of young writers absolutely mind-boggling at times. In any
case, Hero in Love meets all of my criteria as a great story, with strong
character development (the author knows and expresses the mind set of the
typical gay teenager in such a way that readers can easily identify with
all of the characters), consistent portrayal of the fantasy elements, and
careful plot development. Emotionally, there is humor, anxiety, fear,
excitement, sadness, and love. What more can one ask?

It is true that he doesn't use many capitol letters, and I have to put in
lots of commas and semicolons. But that's what editors do. It's true that
I've been anxiously waiting for Jason to find out about Kyle -- and that
the way it was done in this chapter was a complete surprise to me -- but
it's his story and I wouldn't change a thing. I trust that you, his
readers, agree with me.

more notes from me!
