Subject: hero in love 23

Kyle had no clue about what he was going to do. He shivered as he
held Jason tight, wishing he didn't have to leave. He didn't want to
leave. He didn't want to fight that darkness by himself. He wanted to
stay here, stay warm, and stay safe with his boyfriend.

Why? Why was it so hard? Kyle didn't want to accept the thoughts
in his head now. He didn't want to accept that they were real. If he
did...it would mean leaving Earth, leaving his home... leaving Jason.
Jason had helped him through the horrible realization of what it would
mean. But every time he thought about Jason, and the love there, he didn't
know what he'd do being so far away. And how would he get out that far?
He'd have to go farther than before...

"Don't you think you should tell the government?" Jason asked him
out of nowhere. Jason had turned to face him now, the two boys holding
each other close as they spoke.

	"Huh?" Tell the government?

"I don't know. What if they think I'm insane?" Kyle asked. Kyle
didn't want the government thinking that he was some insane hero who'd lose
his mind and blow up the world or something.

"what could they do about it?" Jason countered. "Besides, they
obviously want to see you about SOMETHING. Maybe you should go," Jason
urged while stroking Kyle's back. Jason's calming touch conflicted with
the confusing thoughts in his head.

"I guess." Kyle hadn't thought much about the government. but
maybe he should go. Fuck! It felt like everything was falling apart, and
he couldn't' keep it together. At least being a super hero was the same.
Watch the news, fly around, save who he could. Suddenly it seemed that the
easiest part was saving people, and the rest was becoming more difficult.

"And another thing," Jason continued. " When are you going to take
me flying?" Kyle smiled. That was something he COULD do.

**************************

Soaring through the sky with Kyle was so awesome!! Jason couldn't
describe it; the feeling of soaring over the clouds, and watching the
sunrays split through...the deep reds and pinks at sunset...the way the sun
lit the fog over the golden gate bridge...the way the mountains looked from
so high above...the way the sand looked over the Sahara, seeing the
Matterhorn, the Taj Mahal, all those places.

Jason looked at his boyfriend as they flew across the sparkling
ocean. "It's so gorgeous!!" he exclaimed. Flying this way, arms
outstretched, with his hand held by his boyfriend, it was the best feeling
the world. Kyle had taken him a lot of places over the past week, whenever
they'd had time.

"I wanted to watch the sunset," Kyle explained, pulling Jason into
his slender body.

"Sounds good to me," Jason whispered before kissing his boyfriend
on the lips. They'd been everywhere, walking along pier 49 in San
Francisco, visiting New York and its crowds. They saw Niagara Falls,
looking beautiful in deep winter.

*************

The week had been wonderful, flying with Jason everywhere. He'd
asked to go lots of places, and Kyle had happily obliged. But the best
times were watching the sunsets all over the world.

So now they were watching the sunset from Mount Everest. And it
was gorgeous. "To think that only a few people ever make it this high,"
Jason whispered. It was true. Kyle had been places that very few people
or NO people had ever gone. It was a strange feeling. But now, to take
Jason with him, it was the best feeling ever.

"It's incredible," Kyle whispered back. Little by little, he was
realizing that he needed to fight for this. This was worth saving; these
sites, sounds, and these scenes. The quiet moments he'd spent with Jason
were becoming the most important thing in his life.

"I'll call the number for the government after school tomorrow,"
Kyle decided. It couldn't hurt to go see, could it?

***********************************

Rick could not believe what he was hearing. After waiting for a
week to hear this explanation, this is what he got? Kyle thought he was
some chosen one of the Earth to go and stop evil aliens, or something, from
consuming everything. And the worst part was, Jason believed him. Why?
Yes, Kyle could fly around...but still. What if the dreams were some
mental side effect?

"So you're what? Going to fly into space and hope to find
something?" Rick asked.

"I'm not sure." Kyle admitted, looking sheepish. They were hanging
out in the middle courtyard of the commons, as it was snowing and too cold
to be outside. This was the perfect place for Kyle to keep his secret.
So, of course, Jason had pushed them all outside as well.

Jason did not need this. He did not need a super hero boyfriend
who was fucked in the head. But everyone else was all concerned, and they
wanted him to go see. How could they just believe Kyle like that!??! And
the worse part was that Kyle was somewhat agreeing with Rick. Jason needed
a boyfriend like rick. someone who was THERE, all the time..

"You don't even know if you can go into space,," Rick said, arguing
against the insanity of it. Space was so BIG. What if he got lost? What
if there was nothing, and it was just in Kyle's head? Yes, it would leave
Rick free to get with Jason maybe, but still. Rick didn't want to see
Jason hurt because of Kyle. If he never came back; if he got hurt; it
would kill Rick if Jason were hurt. After everything Jason had done for
him, had tried to help him with, it wasn't fair for Jason.

"Well, actually, I can. I've done it several times. You wouldn't
believe the storms on Jupiter..." Kyle trailed off, blushing. What the
fuck?

"What? You went to Jupiter?" Steven asked. He went to Jupiter?
He'd probably been to the other planets too then. Wait. Jupiter was
supposedly HUGE, with a small core, and nothing but gas...

"Whoa," Josh said. That was the first thing Josh had said since
Kyle had explained his story. Rick liked Josh, He was nice. Yes, he was a
little quiet, but still, you'd think he'd have more to say about something
like this, than just, `whoa.'

"Yeah. It was very.. stormy," Kyle said nervously. Stormy?
That's all he could say? Rick was so so so tired of this. was he the only
one who understood the insanity of flying out into deep space?

"What about the other planets?" Rick didn't care. He was
freezing. But it seemed like he was the only one who noticed. Even Josh,
who normally was cold all the time, didn't care. Rick didn't want to hear
about the other planets; he wanted to know if Kyle would ever admit he was
insane and check himself into a hospital.

"Different. way different. all of them...they aren't earth. But
they are so beautiful," Kyle said. "There is so much out in space...and so
much blackness between everything. I don't like it. I don't like going
out so far. It makes me feel too small. I like being here...safe...at
school...people around me...snow." Kyle was trailing off now, his breath
leaving brief clouds in the air, as if to accent his remarks.

Rick didn't know what to think.

"I feel small sometimes," Alex said, patting Kyle on the back.
Alex and Michelle were there too, wanting all the details. Michelle had
been pretty bad though, trying to get him to style his hair differently, or
get a better outfit for his superhero costume. She'd even sketched out
several different designs.

"Yeah, but this is different. Maybe," Kyle began. "It's hard to
describe. I've flown for hours into space...with nothing. Nothing around
me but...black. Yes, there are stars and other things...but it's all such
weak light. It's beautiful, yes, but at the same time it's so...big." Kyle
sighed.

"So you really think the government will believe you if you tell
them?" Rick asked, changing the subject. He wished they would stay on the
subject. They kept getting off topic. That's what they were out here for;
to figure this stuff out.

"I don't know. But I feel like I have to warn someone," Kyle
explained, "Someone that might be able to do something." Yeah...right.

"The government? What are they going to do? Build fleets of
ships?" Rick countered. "That kind of technology is WAY beyond Earth'
right now."

"But he has to tell someone, Rick," Jason added. Rick groaned. He
wanted to yell, to scream, to do something. He wanted Jason to stop siding
with Kyle. Why couldn't anybody take his side?

*****************

Kyle found himself skimming the clouds, taking his time to fly to San
Francisco. It was also nice not being weighed down by heavy clothes,
instead having a freshly washed and dried superhero suit. Telling his
mother had been a good idea. Although he had the thought that Michelle
might have gotten hold of his mother, because one day he'd come home to
find out he had a new suit.

Landing on the pier where he and Jason liked to go walking was
different this time. He found himself landing straight out in the open,
with several onlookers standing in silent surprise. Then, before they
could respond, he walked over to the pay phone at the end of the pier. He
had the piece of paper ready, with the number that had been blaring on TV
for months now in his hand. Kyle ignored the several onlookers as he dialed
the number.

After ringing several times an automated system answered, "Thank
you for calling the Kid Rush number. For voice identification, please
state the phrase: "I am Kid Rush." Weird. Voice identification? He
guessed they could do that with voice recordings from the TV.

"I am Kid Rush," Kyle said, feeling dumb. But then again, what if
someone tried to pretend to be him?

"Voice verification at 90 percent match. Proceeding to next
statement. Please state the phrase, 'Kid Rush wants to help.'"
Interesting.

Kyle repeated the phrase, trying to think if he'd ever said that
before. He couldn't remember. He didn't think he had. Were they mixing
words he'd said to see if they still sounded the same?

"Voice verification at 95 percent. Proceeding to next
statement. Say 'I am attracted to boys.'" Kyle was trying not to blush as
he repeated the last phrase. At least they were making it harder for some
people to try and fake his voice. It would be hard to say that with out
laughing, for someone who was just screwing around.

"Voice verification at 95. percent. Please hold." Kyle waited as
the phone line began ringing. What was going on now?

"Hello. Am I presumably speaking to Kid Rush?" a male voice asked
on the other end. It sounded interested.

	"Yes," Kyle replied.

"Well, you'd be surprised at how many younger teens can make a
decent voice match with Kid Rush," the man replied. Wow. Kyle hadn't
really thought about it. "Okay. So here's the deal. Assuming you are the
real deal, you need to be..." here the man paused, and Kyle could hear him
mutter as he rustled through some papers, "at the washington monument
building in, oh say.. 10 minutes." Huh?

"Where the crap is that?" Kyle asked. He'd never bothered to visit
DC yet. Maybe he should. see some of the sights.

"It's near washington DC. don't you know where that is?" the man
sounded suprised.

"I'm standing on pier 49 in san francisco. Yes I can get to the
east coast in time..."Kyle protested, "But finding land marks is really
hard from the air."

"Well... you know the white house right?" Kyled sighed. Yes. at
least he knew that.

	"Yes."

"Well it's about 1 or 2 miles south east of there." oh. that wasn't
too hard.

"OK. so am I looking for someone?" Kyle was getting tired of this
spy type stuff.

"It won't matter if you don't get there in time." The man
replied. Kyle wanted to strangle this guy. But he wouldn't. That would look
bad.

"Fine. Im on my way." Kyle hung up.
