Chapter 2
Scariest Monster you ever seen

The news was all over the TV for a few days, but it took weeks for the
stories in the paper to go away. Matt had the best of it. He had
Delilah. She was now his constant companion. She had not officially moved
in, but whenever I saw Matt, I also saw Delilah. They were madly in love
with each other, to the point of embarrassment sometimes.

I was sat with them after dinner one evening watching football on the
TV. Delilah jumped up saying "I'm bored" and rushed upstairs. A few minutes
later Matt's phone went off. I could only hear one side of the
conversation, but it is pretty obvious what is going on. "Delilah!
What?"..."We can't. Tyler's sat right here"..."Of course I do"..."No. Come
back down"..."What about Tyler"..."5 minutes – no more"..."You
wouldn't"..."OK I'll be up in a second". Matt adjusted himself and gave me
a wide grin. "I'll be back in a minute" he said. He too rushed upstairs.

It took 30 minutes and lots of banging before they came down again, both
disheveled. Matt was still buttoning up his shirt. I smiled sheepishly and
said "I think that's my cue to go".

Once the press gave up and the newspaper stories faded away, and the police
stopped coming round asking questions, life returned to something
approaching normal. Well almost. I still saw Spencer regularly. I think she
has a soft spot for me because her brother is gay too, and she could not
understand what happened that night and it bothered her. She still quizzed
me occasionally even though she was off the case. We became good friends.

I never got my clothes back. They were retained for evidence. I did get my
phone sim and memory cards back as well as my watch. Spencer delivered them
one evening. She said the phone had been rammed down the throat of one of
the victims and had been all but destroyed, but they had been able to take
out the cards and after checking, they returned them in case I had
something on them I wanted, photos or phone numbers. The phone or what was
left of it was retained for evidence.

I got my gold chain back too. If the gang had found that, it would have
been ripped from my neck, good job I forgot I had it on. And my Casio
watch. I put both on EBay almost immediately. I could not wear them any
longer because I felt that they were tainted with the memory of that
night. I made a bit of a killing when someone (Matt I think, or possibly
Spencer) told the press who was selling them. Spencer told me she got the
ID's of everyone who bid in case they had some connection with the case,
but no luck. I went out and replaced the Casio with a Swatch and the gold
chain with a torc. The torc is nice and it fulfils the stereotype that all
gay men wear wrist jewellery.

Spencer came round one evening about six months after the attack. We had
planned to go to an up market restaurant for a bite to eat. It was not
formal by any means It was not formal by any means but you were expected to
dress smartly.

"You're looking good. Did you get dressed up for someone?" Said Spencer as
she came in.

I had smart black jeans and a white silk shirt. A blue flying jacket was
rolled up over a chair back ready to go.

"Just you" I said flirting. "You're looking good too. You brush up quite
well for a girl"

Spencer looked at me, took a step forward until our noses were a couple of
inches apart, and started tickling me. I immediately fell about on the
floor pleading with her to stop.

"Stop please I can't breath...agghhh no" I panted over and over.

I begged her to stop, pleaded with her. She just carried on. We were
rolling about on the floor for a good five minutes before she finally
relented. I lay on the floor next to her panting, tears in my eyes. We were
both grinning as if we had won a million.

"You know, if you weren't gay, we'd be in bed by now, fucking like bunnies"
she said suddenly serious. I thought about what she said and the idea was
unexpected but not repulsive.

"Or if you were a guy" I retorted.

"You don't fancy Collins do you?" she asked and we both cracked up again.

"It's time you looked for a boyfriend again" Said Spencer, serious again "I
know for a fact that you haven't met anyone since the incident, or even
been out fro a proper night out. So we are going for a bite to eat and then
onto a GAY club. I'll be your fag hag, and I'll abandon you to your fate if
anyone so much as looks in your direction. What do you think? A plan or
what?"

Of course, I hated the idea, but I knew she was right. Besides, it had been
a long time since I had been anywhere remotely gay, not even a pub. I
decided to change my shirt to something a little more casual and less
creased, once I knew of the change of venue. I eventually decided on a
plain white t-shirt that clung to my body like a glove.

In the taxi, Spencer and I sat together in the back. The driver was a huge
guy in leathers. The guy was an animal. But he had a lot of wrist
jewellery, and my gaydar started flashing red.

I leant over and whispered in Spencer ear. "Do you think the driver is
gay?"

"I think so" she whispered back "I'm sure he'll take it up the arse if you
ask"

"What?" I replied surprised "You think he's a bottom?"

"No" she said grinning "but your face is a picture".

"Here we are" said the driver. Spencer got out, then me. I turned round to
pay for the ride.

"There's a club round the corner if you want to meet up later" Said the
driver grinning, with his hand moving over his groin. I blushed and wished
the world would open up and swallow me. It did not so I gave him a big tip
instead.

Spencer led the way and opened the restaurant door for me. We entered
warily wondering if we were dressed properly, too formal or too scruffy. It
was not expensive, but had a good reputation for good food well cooked. A
good-looking young waiter escorted us to our table. He handed us our menus
and left. I put mine down and stared at the rear of the waiter as he went
back to the kitchen. Spencer slapped me gently on the wrist and put the
menu back in my hands.

"Down boy" she said "I don't think he's on the menu".

We ordered a bottle of house red, which turned out to be a merlot and
pretty good. The choice of food was good too and I found it difficult to
decide. Spencer went for steak in the end.

"How would you like that Madam?" said the waiter.

"Blue please" Replied Spencer.

"And you sir" said the waiter "what would you like".

Spencer gave me a dirty look

"I'll have the steak too please, blue" I said looking at Spencer.

"Thank you" said the waiter taking our menus. "The chefs favourite. You
have made an excellent choice"

Spencer sighed when he left. "I thought you were going to flirt with him"
She said.

"I chickened out" I said. "I hope the food is as delicious as the waiter".

The steak was delicious and properly blue. Whoever cooked them knew what he
was doing. The restaurant even supplied whole-grain mustard instead of the
more normal French mustard.

"I have a theory" I said. "When people start eating and drinking formally,
they start out liking fairly sweet white wine and well done steaks. Over
time the wine goes to dry and the steak goes to rare. Eventually people
drink red wine and eat blue steaks".

"It's a theory" said Spencer. I was not sure whether she agreed or not or
was not interested. We finished the meal in silence.

Then we had finished the waiter came over again, left pudding menus on the
table and cleared the plates. He came back a few minutes later to take our
order. Spencer had Crème Caramel and I had New York Cheesecake, both
with coffee. The waiter brought the sweets out after a few minutes.

"Do you know of a gay club round here at all?" Spencer asked the waiter.

"Certainly Madam, There is one I'm told is very good just down the road."
He replied "Not my cup of tea though" He continued, making sure I
understood. I blushed again.

When we had finished the food and drank the obligatory coffee, I went to
the till to pay with a card. Two guys and a girl walked in. All three in
emo gear. One guy was tall and built dressed in black with rolled up
sleeves wearing broad leather cuffs or armlets. The girl again dressed in
black had dark rings round her eyes. She looked ill. Both looked shabby and
out of place with the other guy. He was gorgeous. Slightly younger than the
other two. He was tall and slim. Black hair with a red stripe down the
middle. Black jeans and a black dress shirt. A couple of piercings in his
ears. He could be described as emo but the way he dressed was very
smart. He was a gay man's wet dream, and more importantly MY wet dream. I
stared at him for a few moments too long, while the waiter processed my
card.

"Thank you Sir. I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening at the club" said
the waiter winking making me blush again.

Spencer took my arm and we left.

"The club is just down the road" said Spencer.

I murmured something in reply as I looked back trying to get another
glimpse of 'Wet Dream'.

"World to Tyler" she said taking my arm. I turned round to see her staring
at me. "Would you talk to him if we went back?" She asked

"God no." I said. "I'd be far too shy."

"Tyler! You've fallen for two men in one evening and we haven't stepped
foot in the club yet." She said laughing at me. "Come on, let's get you
drunk enough to lose that shyness" and we walked along to the club arm in
arm.

The noise was tremendous and lights flashed everywhere. It was an
epileptic's nightmare. There were people everywhere. Mostly young and cute,
some older and attractive, even a few distinguished old men. Hardly anyone
you would not want to be seen with which is pretty good for a gay club.

"Pretty lively" shouted Spencer over the music.

"It looks more than lively enough for me" I shouted back.

We had only been there for about twenty minutes. I still had not finished
my first rum and coke.

I saw him again on a sofa a dozen yards away. The same tall good looks,
with the same sexy red stripe in his hair. Our eyes met for a moment before
he turned away to the scruffy emo friend at his side. The crowd closed in
and I lost sight of them. When I looked again they had gone. I kept my
hopes up. I could not believe that a guy who dressed so smart would be with
a loser like that.

The evening was pleasant. I danced with Spencer a few times. She was far
better at it than I was. A couple of guys asked me to dance and although I
went along with them and even bought one guy a drink, my heart was not in
it. A woman came over and pulled Spencer onto the floor. They danced a
while, and then Spencer made her excuses and returned to me by the
bar. More intrigue I thought. Is she straight as she suggested when we were
mucking around in my flat earlier, or is she a dyke after all? As the night
rolled on, I was getting tired. Then I saw him again, this time alone. I
nudged Spencer and pointed him out. She discreetly left to go to the ladies
room, leaving me alone. He was leaning leisurely against the wall by the
sofas. He looked round almost like he was ready to go. Our eyes met, and
this time neither of us looked away. He came over.

"Do I know you from somewhere?" He asked suggestively.

"Maybe, I don't think I've seen you before, except earlier this evening at
the restaurant. You were with friends" I replied

"That was my brother and his girlfriend. She was ill and we put her in a
taxi. My brother is still around somewhere" he said "My names Jason. What's
yours?"

"I'm Tyler". I offered my hand to shake and Jason took it with a firm
grip. "Pleased to meet you".

As the handshake parted, Jason took my other hand and called over the bar
for a drink.

"What are you drinking?" he asked me "and didn't you have a friend with you
earlier?"

"Rum and coke" I replied. "And yes she's gone now"

"Two Rum and Cokes, with ice please" he said to the barman.

Jason and I looked at each other. I was about to say something when the
drinks came back. Jason paid with his card.

"We've only just met and you're buying me drinks already" I said.

"I feel like I've known you forever, and I like you – a lot. Is that a
bit scary?" replied Jason.

"That's just the drink talking" I said

"Probably" Said Jason, "but I have a feeling you like me too. Else, why are
you still holding my hand? And why do you have a boner?"

I looked down to see if I was that obvious, then up again at Jason's
grinning face. I realized he was kidding, and we both laughed. I pulled
Jason close. We kissed for the first time. Not passionately, but more than
a good night peck on the cheek. It seemed so natural like Jason said as if
we had been kissing forever.

"Let's go" Jason whispered into my ear. "I can get a cab. I live about 5
minutes away. Gotta find my bro though".

"OK" I whispered back.

I looked over at Spencer back from the ladies and sitting at the other end
of the bar. I waved goodbye "I've pulled" I mouthed silently. Spencer waved
back "good luck" she mouthed and gave me two thumbs up.

Once Jason's brother was located, we walked down the steps to the entrance
hand in hand with his brother walking behind.

We walked by a bouncer who grinned and said "Have a good night".

A taxi came quickly enough, and we piled into the back. Jason gave the
address and the driver pulled off. Sure enough, the taxi ride was about 5
minutes.

"This'll do mate" Jason said to the taxi driver. "It's a cul-de-sac if you
go to the house"

We got out into the cold air. Jason went forward and paid for the taxi,
giving him a tip far bigger then I would have.

"Two more minutes and I'll get coffee before you show me if that really is
a boner or just a gun in your pocket" Said Jason.

His brother scowled at me, as if he had caught me killing puppies or
something. Jason and I walked down the street hand in hand. Ian came
behind. We were not really taking any notice of him. When we got to Jason's
house, Jason opened the gate and we walked through. I held the gate open
for Ian. He said nothing just glared at me and slammed the gate shut. We
approached the door, and Jason started searching for his key. Ian went off
round the back of the house. Jason eventually found his keys and unlocked
the door as Ian came back from behind the house. He was carrying a large
branch, which he swung with some force at my head. I screamed and put my
hands up and ducked. The branch hit my hands first and then the wall. Jason
also screamed in surprise. Ian lifted the branch again presumably to have
another go my head. This time I was an easy target.

A grey shadow appeared from nowhere and held the branch above Ian's head

"Hello boys having fun".

Jason and I screamed again pretty much in unison. Ian let go of the branch
and screamed when he saw the boy in grey, red eyes glowing.

"Be off" he said to Jason and I.

It was like all the nightmares I ever had happening all at once. The
Bogeyman, Dracula, the Wolf man, Zombies. The night of the incident, every
bad moment I ever had since I was a child. I ran for my life. Jason ran in
another direction. His brother stood there fixed to the spot.

I did not know where I was going, why I was running, or what from. I just
knew that I had to get away. I did not look back again. Everything else
went from my mind. Escape was my only thought. Eventually I slowed down and
stopped, too tired to run any further. I dropped to my knees in the middle
of the street. I realized I had peed myself again. It was not warm this
time. It was cold and smelled acrid. I was breathing so hard I thought I
was going to die. If he came now I could not defend myself. I would be at
his mercy. A few minutes passed and my breath came easier. Somehow, I got
up, and made it to the side of the road and across the pavement, and then
fell into the front garden of a house. I hid under a bush in a corner of
the garden and slowly descended into a fitful sleep until dawn.

This is a fantasy, entirely fictional. No animals or other entities living,
dead or undead were harmed in its making. The only things that suffered are
good taste and the English language.

The inspiration for the story was a dream I had after a night drinking

Basically it is a love story, but we will see how it goes from there. These
things seem to have a life of their own.

And it's semi-auto-biographical. I like my coffee black with sugar. Hehe

I would like to thank you for reading my tale. It is my first attempt at
getting a story on nifty, and indeed at writing fiction. I would like your
opinion on the story, though it's composition, how it reads, do you believe
in the characters, do they come alive for you. It is more important to get
that right if I am to carry on writing. I will try to reply to people where
applicable.
