Chapter 5

"Tromperie!!!" roared Vieux.

"What have you done with Andrew and Johnathan?!! Where are you keeping
them?!!" yelled Vieux as he rampaged through the villa. Opening and
slamming doors to random rooms situated throughout the hallways of the
Marquise's Villa.

A look of pure anger was etched on his face. He already despised the
Marquise enough as it was, and to know that she might've harmed the two
boys threw him into a dire rage. He finally made it to a room which he
remembered all too well. A room now covered in dust, with spider webs in
the corners, and furniture covered in cloths. This room was clearly
abandoned, but not entirely forgotten. The door wasn't boarded but the room
had clearly not been used in many years. Though this came as no surprise to
Vieux; it was his room after all. For the way the Marquise had slowed down
over time, he didn't exactly expect her to still be the same vibrant ball
of life that she once was. Vieux stood and gazed at the room in a reverie,
as memories came flooding back.

"Vieux, stay, please stay" entreated the Marquise De Tromperie.

"Madame, I can't, my first grandson has just been born. I've promised my
son that I'll help them out, just until they get comfortable and I'm no
longer needed. I'll be back here with you soon, my love."

"No you won't! You say that you'll be back but you won't. Like last time,
remember you went away on that hunting trip, you said you were only going
to be gone a couple of months, and then I didn't see you for three
years. How about the time before that, you went on a voyage to speak with
that sorcerer so you could develop your skills, that was again only
supposed to take three months, but I didn't see you for fifteen months!"
replied the angry Marquise.

"I promise, my love, this time I will be back before the new moon. My son
told me himself that he won't need me for more than a couple of weeks."

"You'd better keep your promise Vieux; I can't take this much longer. My
love for you will only keep burning as long as you are with me. This
distance you keep creating; it will ultimately be our end."

A Week after the New Moon...

"So where were you tonight my dear?" catechized Tromperie bitterly.

"I was with my son, my love, you know that." replied Vieux innocently,
unaware of where the Tromperie's current mood was coming from.

"No you weren't. You were off at another villa, spending the night with a
courtesan!!" retorted Tromperie, while fighting back tears.

"Where would you get a ridiculous idea like that? Oh, let me
guess. Ingenieux told you. If there is anyone who's been cheating, it would
be YOU, my dear," Vieux fired back while pointing at the Marquise in
ridicule.

"I had no other choice!!! In the past four years, I've only gotten to spend
a maximum of six months with you at a time. You know the type of woman I
am, you were aware of the problems that may occur if you didn't spend time
with me before we started this relationship. Ingenieux was here when you
weren't, you could see him and I getting closer, yet you still decided to
go off on trips and voyages. So don't you dare begin lecturing me on
morals!! This relationship fell apart because you didn't keep it going, you
were never around to."

"So that's it, is it? You feel no guilt; you don't see anything wrong, do
you? Well, then I'm leaving!!"

"Leave then; leave the good life I've given you behind. Remember that I own
this villa, I am a Marquise, and you are only a Monsieur. A noble, yes, but
nothing of my ranking; you won't ever have this type of life again, you
know? The wealth, the power, the parties, the hunting grounds, the abundant
eternal supply of deer, the vast library with an infinite supply of
knowledge, and most importantly ME. You won't ever have another woman like
me, not with my beauty, with my wit, my charisma, my charms, nor my
influence. You won't ever love another woman like you do me Vieux, because
of the fact that we are made for each other. Your heart has the same dark
capacity as mine, you share the same interest in magic as I do, and if we
start a war it will be one that isn't finished till we are both lying on
this marble floor unconscious, staining it with our blood."

"If that's the case Madame, then let it be. You already have Ingenieux. You
don't need me."

With those last words, the Marquise had had enough and telepathically threw
a chair at Vieux. He blocked it with a quickly conjured invisible shield,
and it fell to the floor. That only further enraged Tromperie, and having
knowledge of a wide range of different types of magic, she was able to
attack violently. The floor started rising up, and columns of rock started
surrounding Vieux. With the foundations cracking, the ceiling began
splitting where the columns touched, but still the floor kept rising. A
wall of clay and mud started rising in between the columns, fencing in the
Monsieur. He attacked back, shattering the glass of the windows with a
violently strong wind, sending the shards flying, and knocking the Marquise
down to the floor. He shielded himself from the shards, but not the
Marquise. She laid on the floor, knocked out cold from the wind and the
shock impacts of the glass shards, covered in cuts from head to toe. She
was barely alive and breathing shallowly. Vieux calmed the wind, and
retreated the columns and wall back into the earth. Being the powerful but
benevolent wizard that he was, he immediately casted a Healing Spell on the
Marquise. He extracted every piece of glass, and magically sealed each open
cut back perfectly. He levitated the Marquise into her room and onto her
bed, and then he healed her of every wound, and gave her back her
beauty. He felt that even after all that had happened to them, he still
owed her this one favour, for without her beauty she would have nothing.

With that done, he went back to his room, and packed his stuff but left the
mess. He drew a cloth over all the furniture and closed the door, hoping
that he would never have to open it again.

The Present...

Vieux remembered it so well, and so vividly. He looked down at the floor
and there was a shard of glass, right at his foot. That brought a tear to
his eyes, thinking how he had done so much damage and still it wasn't
completely gone.

"Touching, Vieux, isn't it? To think that this room had seen so many
things, and I'm sure would have seen many more tales to tell. Pity though
that even with all the good memories it's had, it's still that last one
that keeps coming to the mind. That last one that this room tells so
completely, and in such detail." stated Tromperie.

Upon hearing that sly, feminine voice, Vieux turned around, and looked at
the object of his emotions straight in the eyes.

"Where are they Tromperie!!!? Where are the boys!!? You'd better not have
hurt them, or this time I won't have the heart to save you from my
actions."

"Oooh, are you trying to scare me Vieux?" replied Tromperie, in a teasing
but nonchalant manner. "I'm much stronger then I was last time Vieux, my
knowledge of magic has increased further, and I have Ingenieux now. I very
much doubt, Monsieur, that you have enough strength to take on the both of
us. But the boys are fine, they're in the dungeons. You've done well this
time, bringing those two boys along." cackled Tromperie.

"Take me to them, Tromperie!!" ordered Vieux.

"Vieux, you are in no place to give orders, you will see them in due time."

Shadow panthers started to move towards Vieux, three of them. He was
already used to these three, for they were Tromperie's pets. She had a
weird fascination with cats, especially exotic and sleek felines. They had
by now trapped him in between them, circling him menacingly. Something
about the panthers' gaze sent shivers down Vieux's back, so cold and so
empty were their eyes. The panthers started to quicken their gait,
appearing to move closer to him, their snarling echoing throughout the
room. That was when he saw what he feared most, the leader Nieraely opened
her jaw and revealed her 9 inch long sabre-teeth; these teeth were knives
like no other. Then they did it; with Vieux's focus solely on Nieraely's
jaw the panthers pounced. The hypnotism should've meant that when the dust
settled, Vieux's body should have been strewn in pieces all over the
floor. But not in this case, Vieux teleported himself outside of the
panthers' reach and next to the door. The panthers landed in a messy clump
amongst each other; Tromperie was not pleased.

"I told you I'm better Tromperie; I just wished you'd believe it. You're
more than welcome to chase me, Madame; that is if you think it will do any
good." chuckled Vieux.

"Vieux, I will have you!! Nieraely, get off the floor, you pathetic
pet. You have your mark, now hunt him!!"

The panthers rose up, got their balance back and set out for Vieux. The
hunt was on, and this time they were hell-bent on claiming their prize.

"Ingenieux!!" called Tromperie.

"Coming, Madame, " he answered.

"There you are, I've got a task for you Ingenieux. Vieux is here inside the
villa. I want you to take Sheiska and go guard Gabriel. I'll be down soon,
I just need to prepare myself should I have to fight Vieux. He has
definitely grown in power, and I worry that my own is no longer strong
enough. Ingenieux, no matter what, you must not let Vieux near Gabriel. If
he frees him, we will have no hope and he will win."

"I understand Madame; he will be in good hands. But please be down soon."

With that, Ingenieux went off and made his way down to Gabriel.
