Only the Lonely
From Chapter 11:
When we got up to Marks room, Rick looked at Mark and asked, "does
your dad have a pair of welding masks, Mark?" With a puzzled look on his
face, Mark disappeared for a few minutes; then returned with two welding
masks. "Put them on, both of you, I'm about to show you where that light
came from. With that, he started to get undressed. I hurriedly put on my
mask, while Mark followed suit, not wanting to take his eyes off Rick, but
knowing that he had too.
And now Chapter 12
We had no sooner gotten the masks down when Rick transformed into
the most beautiful sight Mark had ever seen. I saw him raising his had to
lift his mask, and I swatted his hand away and shook my head, indicating
that it was a very bad idea. When Rick had returned to the form that we
could see, we raised our masks, and all Mark could say was, "WOW!" We sat
around that evening and talked about what had just happened. Mark was full
of questions and we tried to answer them honestly, to the best of our
ability.
The rest of the year was uneventful. The bullies did their normal
routine, but it started to get old, and we soon anticipated their every
move. It got to the point of us taking a different route to Marks house.
Mark and I started to develop strong feelings towards each other. For my
16th birthday my parents decided to buy me a car, I jumped up and down for
joy when I found out. They also decided to take me to Hawaii to celebrate.
I was beside myself. I had always wanted to go to Hawaii and I was finally
able to go. My parents had made all the arraignments for the trip. My dad
took me to the local car dealership, and let me pick out the car. I picked
out a 1992 Ford Mustang. My parents were going to pay for me to fix it up
the way I wanted.
The next day we made our way to the airport for the flight to the
beautiful islands of Hawaii. I hardly slept that night, and Rick said he
would come with us so we wouldn't have to pay for the parking. He saw us
off and I was being torn apart. I wanted both him and Mark to be going
with, but my parents insisted that it should only be a family affair. I
tried to argue that Rick was now part of the family, but they wouldn't hear
it, and Rick said he had some other things that he had to tend to while we
were away. I was so sad that I wouldn't be able to share my birthday
celebration with anyone that I truly loved and cared for, besides my
parents.
We arrived in Honolulu at 8pm. My mom and dad had slept all of the
flight, but I was too nervous. I couldn't wait to see what was planned for
the next week. I hardly slept that night, I was so excited. I had my own
private room, away from my parents. They had rented a car, and my parents
had decided to let me drive the entire trip, I was scared beyond belief.
It wasn't like the rural parts of Colorado, where we were from. This was a
big city.
The next day, we all decided to hit the beach. The water was warm
and crystal clear. My mom had arraignments for us to go scuba diving,
which was a first for me. I had a ball. It was so cool to swim with fish,
and as our luck would have it, some dolphins decided to come into the bay
where we were and swam with us. I was so excited. Later that day we went
driving around the island. It was so beautiful. So luscious and green.
Like a rain forest in the amazon, but on a much smaller scale.
Trevor's Vacation will continue in the next installment of Only The Lonely
