Chapter Thirteen
The following morning, Hephin and Elepan were awakened by
Alephin. Dregor was already up and was sitting in a chair next to
the bed reading a book. He was used to getting up early in the
army.
"Come into the kitchen."
Both got up and followed Alephin. Dregor followed closely.
Rince and Max were already there.
"It's happened. I really didn't expect them to move so
quickly. After all, they know you are pregnant, and can't have
another until you deliver," Alephin said.
Hephin had no idea what was going on.
"A wolf by the name of Dag Tuskus wants to make a proposition
to you, Hephin, to bear him a child."
"Do I know him?"
"No. He is not in this pack. He is a very wealthy wolf who
wants a pup very badly. I told him you wouldn't discuss it for
less than three billion."
All of the others gasped.
"So he is willing to pay more than that?"
"Yes. That was the minimum." Alephin sighed. "I'm not happy
about it, but that is too much money to ignore. I think you
should consider it. Whether you accept is up to you."
Hephin looked at Elepan.
"Alephin, we don't need money," Elepan said.
"Eventually, you may. Hephin, you are an alpha. Your wolf may
want his own pack. He is making himself known."
Hephin was startled by his wolf's howl.
"I think he agrees with me," Alephin said.
Hephin had to agree with Alephin. His wolf loved the idea.
Every time he thought about it, he could tell it made his wolf
happy. His wolf was ready to take off running, looking for a new
home. Hephin wasn't nearly as enthusiastic. This was his home.
"What? I can't leave you!"
"You won't have to go far. Do you remember the hundred acres
of land next to our pack?"

"That you offered to Dad?"
"Yes. It would be an ideal location."
"A small area would be much easier to defend," Dregor said.
"That is absolutely true," Max added. "This pack has too much
land to secure completely. Even if the perimeter was guarded, the
interior wouldn't be."
"And on that subject, some of the money could be used to build
a fence around this pack and add video surveillance to the whole
area. If you are willing to share it," Alephin said. "Some of the
estimates I've seen have run several hundred million dollars. It
needs to be strong, secure, electrified, have video surveillance,
and encompass the entire area. That would include the buildings
to house the security men who would monitor the whole thing. It
would also pay the salaries of the security people. It's money
well spent. It will help protect your father."
"Alephin, it sounds like you think it is a good idea. I am
willing to do it. After all Melforth was a stranger, too. The
only time I've seen him was when he got me pregnant," Hephin
said. "And I'm happy to share the money."
Alephin nodded.
"Is he a good person?" Hephin asked. "I would hate to turn my
baby over to someone who wasn't."
"I don't know that much about him. I do know he has wanted a
pup for hundreds of years. I believe someone who has waited that
long is going to cherish the pup.
"Elepan, how do you feel about it?" Alephin asked him.
"I feel the same way Hephin does. If we can do some good with
the money, it's fine. I have always thought we needed a fence
around the pack land. Humans wander around on our land all the
time. No trespassing signs every two hundred yards cannot be
considered security. One of these days, a human with a gun will
shoot a wolf and one of us will be dead. And Hephin can still
bear pups for Techupawa after he gives birth to Dag's."
"I would have a very lonely pack! Me, Elepan, and our kids. I
won't have Dad or you. I don't want to go!"
"You will have more members," Alephin said. "Dregor?"
Dregor looked at Alephin in surprise. He thought about it. He
was already considering Hephin and Elepan family. He nodded.
"I would go if Alephin didn't mind and Hephin wants me."
"Max, would you consider going?" Alephin asked. "I can get
another guard for Rince."
Tears formed in Max's eyes.
"Max, we will need you," Dregor said to him.
Max thought about it.
Alephin hugged him.
"You would be right next door, pup. Think of it as moving to a
house away from the village. We will see each other all the
time."
"That's a relief!" Hephin said.
Alephin grinned at Hephin.
"You will still get your daily feeding from me, Hephie, baby."

They laughed.
"Alephin, if you want me to go, I will. Hephin, will someone

Alephin laughed. Max grinned.
"Dregor is right. Guarding a pack is not a one man job," Max
said.
"No, it isn't," Alephin said.
"We need more than two guards, Alephin. There are the babies
to consider," Max said.
"I know. Each guard has to have a backup. You will need
several more. I will give it some thought. Once I pick some
people, Hephin, you can decide whether you want them in your
pack."
Hephin shook his head. His pack. A year ago, it would have
been laughable, but he was certain by that point that it was what
his wolf wanted. His wolf was crazy!
"You need to let your wolf choose them. The pack is his idea,
remember. I suggest you sniff their crotches."
"Can this get any more embarrassing?" Hephin asked.
They laughed.
Alephin looked around at his family.
"This is nothing new. Alphas have alpha sons all the time, and
most of the sons form their own packs. This is perfectly normal,
except for the male pregnancy aspect. We will still be a family.
You just will need to drive to see me. Still, it is only about
five minutes away. You can spend as much time here as Hephin's
wolf allows."
"What about an underground tunnel between the packs?" Hephin
asked.
"We better ask for four billion," Alephin said, laughing.
"What do you think, Max?"
Max nodded. "I want to give it some thought, but I like the
idea. A tunnel from one secure area to another is safer. Driving
on the highway is not safe for several reasons."
Alephin nodded. "I'm glad you are thinking that way. We don't
need a tunnel, though. We could have a private road connecting
them."
"I want a tunnel," Hephin said, sticking his bottom lip out
again.
"Alphas don't pout," Alephin said.
Several of them laughed.
"My alpha does," Elepan said.
He hugged his mate. He was pleased when Hephin reached behind
him and groped him. Hephin pulled Elepan's cock out of his

good thing about a private tunnel. We can drive as fast as we

"You should use electric cars. Carbon monoxide and other fumes
would need to be removed, otherwise," Rince added.
"That is true," Elepan said.
"It would be simpler and more secure if it didn't need vents
going up to the surface."
"Who will build it?" Max asked.
"I know a wolf who can lead the projects--the fence and the
tunnel. He is a first cousin. I trust him completely. We have men
in the pack to do the work. We can pay them much more than they
are making at their regular jobs."
"Dag would like to meet with you today at two this afternoon.
I will be there, of course."
"What if he wants another one?" Elepan asked.
"I thought of that. I would like for you to have one for our
pack before you have another one for anyone else."
Hephin nodded.
"In fact, you could alternate. Every other pregnancy would be
for us."
"How much do you think we should ask? Three billion, four
billion?"
"Let's play it by ear. He gasped when I said three billion and
told me I was insane." Hephin laughed. "I pointed out that my
grandson's life was not cheap."
"Alephin, could Elepan and I speak to you privately?"
"Of course."
The others got up and left the room.
"Alephin, how can I be an alpha? My wolf wants Dregor and Max
to breed him. How can he be an alpha wolf?"
Elepan was a little surprised. Hephin hadn't told him that.
Max was not trying to eavesdrop, but Hephin was speaking very

"Tell me. You've basically got Dregor in your pack, now. How

"I don't think you will be able to help it, once he is in your

The last time I spoke to him, there were just over fifty members.
I expect your pack will stay fairly small, too. I doubt you will
ever have more than one hundred members."
"This is so unfair to Elepan!" Hephin said, anguished.
He was surprised when Elepan laughed.
"Elepan, would you like to respond to your mate?" Alephin
asked him.
"Yes. Hephin, you give me your love, you've given me three

to adjust to all this, but like your Dad, your adjustment seems
much more painful to me. Rince completely miserable when his wolf

Elepan smiled at his mate.
"Don't you think your wolf's way is better?" Elepan asked him.
Hephin nodded.
"Why did you have to kill them, Alephin?" Hephin asked.
"Because they wanted to take control of the pack. They wanted
to take it from me, and they were willing to kill me to do it. I
had no choice."
Elepan and Hephin took a shower and got dressed. Dregor went
into the bathroom to take a shower. Hephin and Elepan walked into
the living room and sat on the sofa.
"Do you know if Dregor wants a pup?" Hephin asked his mate.
"Yes, he does."
"If he is in my pack, I need to consider that."
Elepan nodded.
"Yes. Fortunately, I think your pack members will be young and
not desperate for pups. I am pretty sure Dregor will be happy to
wait, knowing that eventually, he will have one."
"You are going to have to help me decide what to do, Elepan.
How can I decide between my pack members-making Dregor happy, for
instance; Alephin's pack members who have waited centuries, and
strangers who will pay billions?"
"We don't have any hurry at all, mate."

They heard laughing voices followed by Alephin carrying a

Soon the pups were worn out. They all shifted back.
"Let's go to the canteen for lunch," Elepan said. "I'm in the

"That sounds great!" Dregor said.
"Don't forget you don't have to pay anymore, Dregor," Hephin
said.
Dregor grinned.
"I forgot about that! I think I will have a two pound ribeye!"
Hephin laughed.
They put the pups to bed. Hephin went to use the bathroom.
"Dregor, Hephin told me he wants you to breed him," Elepan
said.
Dregor felt very uncomfortable. Was Elepan angry? He didn't
seem to be.
"How do you feel about that, Elepan?"
Elepan shrugged.
"I'm adjusting. Will you mind?"
Dregor laughed, nervously.
"Only if you try to kill me for doing it!"
Elepan chuckled.
"To be honest, my wolf and I are both crazy about Hephin. I
feel guilty about it."
"Well, don't. Alephin thinks Hephin's wolf will want all the
members of his pack to breed him. It's how he will keep the pack

"It looks like I will be forming my own pack," Hephin told

"That's a shame! Where will you go?"
"The Whitelaw Estate," Elepan said.

"No. Just next door. Dregor and Max will be joining my pack."

"Max said you have sex regularly."
"We do. Who else will be going?"
"Alephin said he would give me some names to consider."
The waitress came and put Les' food on the table. Then she

"Are you going to have any women?" Les asked.

"I think it will just be Maria and Delora. That's enough,
don't you think?" Hephin asked.

Hephin thought about that. He wasn't sure.

"If you want my opinion, the best way to convince him is to
