Hephin woke. He was in Elepan's arms. He could tell Elepan was
awake. He flipped over.

Elepan grinned at his mate. "Hi. You are cute."
"Am I? Even carrying triplets?"

"Do you have any idea who the third pup's father is?"
Hephin nodded.
"But if I'm wrong, it could be terrible."
"Who?"
"I think it must be Dregor's." Elepan nodded. "I didn't wish

Hephin nodded.

"Alephin said they start the tunnel next week," Will said. "He

Elepan noticed Hephin looked sad.
"Are you thinking about Jeremy?"
"Yes. Both of them. The real one and the fake one."
"Dag should have news by the time he returns tonight."
Hephin nodded.
Will shifted and ran ahead of them.
When they all arrived at the lake, Hephin said, "I have news.
Dag wants to take us to Tahiti."
"Wow!" Dregor said.
"I meant to tell you earlier, but the big mess made me forget.
I don't know when we will be going yet. Do all of you want to
go?"
They all nodded.
"I'm excited about riding on his jet. I've never been on a
plane," Hephin said.
"Neither have I," Elepan said.
"Dag mentioned there are private islands near there. If we go
to one of them, we can shift and run on the beach."

"I've also been talking to Dag about money. Alephin is paying

nodded.

kidnap attempt, aren't you?" Dregor asked him.

I've never encountered a shape-shifter. I've never experienced a

"It isn't just Dag's security they would have to get through.

Hephin closed the door behind them and then sat on the bed. He
looked at Jed. Jed had black hair and green eyes. It was a

"Are you pack Vin-Ta?"
"No."
Hephin nodded.
"I really don't understand why people want to join it. I mean,

"My reasons are similar to Tim's. The pack will be my family
and I won't have to move when humans become suspicious. I like

"Everything is set. I officially live here."

"Dag, I admitted Jed to the pack."

he is no longer an employee."

"The shapeshifter's name is Eric West. He was hired by a Vin-

"I am afraid he was killed," Dag said.

"Hephin, we can't just kill him," Elepan said.
"Why not? Why should we allow him to do this again? He plans
to kill Eric's wife, if he hasn't already. He deserves death.
Dag?"
Dag stared at Hephin. He had killed before in self-defense,
but he had never paid to have anyone killed.
"I agree," Dag said. "Alephin, do you agree? We are in your
house."
Alephin sighed.
"Unfortunately, I think it is for the best. I have heard of
him, too. He would just try again."
Dag nodded.
"Will you do it, Dag?" Hephin asked him.
"Yes. I will arrange for it."
"I think that this should be our response any time anyone is
murdered to try to get to me," Hephin said. He looked at his pack
members to see if any disagreed. He was pleased to see they
didn't.
"Defense is fine, but when murder is involved, I want offense.
I'm assuming he could have paid, if he wanted to."
"Oh, yes," Dag said. "He is quite wealthy."
"He is just rotten," Hephin added.
Dag smiled and shook his head. There was steel under Hephin's

"What about the shapeshifter?" Elepan asked. "Is there any
chance of rescuing his wife?"
"Did he kill Jeremy?" Hephin asked.
"No. That was not his role. Elepan, I don't know about his
wife. If Alan dies soon, maybe she will be released."
"Please make sure he dies very soon, Dag. I'm serious. Who
knows what he is up to right now. Nothing good, I'm sure," Hephin
said.
Hephin noticed his father was looking at him oddly.
"Do you disagree, Dad?"
"No. It's just that you have always been so passive. Have you
ever even hit anyone?"
"No. But if I saw someone about to get killed, I hope I would
have."
Rince smiled.
"Good!"
"Do any of you have a problem with what we are going to do?"
Hephin asked his pack.
"Hephin, this is your decision," Dregor said. "It doesn't
matter whether we agree. You are the Alpha."
"I think you are doing the right thing," Will said. "But
Dregor is right."
Hephin nodded.
Dag got up and walked to Alephin's study. He called his
security chief and told him what he wanted done.
"I know just the people to hire. I assume it needs to be done
quickly."
"Yes. The sooner the better."
"I will let you know when it is done."
Dag hung up and walked back to the living room.
"It has been arranged."

"Let's all get in my limo," Dag said. "I want to show you our

"Yes, it is. You need to decide if you need anything else

"We are waiting for two more security vehicles to accompany
us. They should be here in a minute or so.

They drove out of the pack lands and onto the highway.
