Chapter 1: Bittersweet Fallacies

The music drifts into my ears, flows through my body, and I
dance. I dance, oblivious to the world for a few seconds, before all the
thoughts come crashing down on me. Yet still I continue. After all, the DJ
goes through the trouble of playing, the least I could do is humor him. I
gaze around and see bodies swaying to the music. Such simple lives, if only
I could have that innocence back. What I'd do for it all. What I'd give to
forget.

I'm interrupted from my reverie as I feel a shoulder gently touch
my shoulder. Immediately I know everything of this man, or boy I should
say. He snuck in here, to be precise, only 17 years of age. His name is
Darren and a closeted gay he is at school, but here, at this club, he's
known as Midnight. A peculiar name one may think, but it suits him
well. Dressed in all black, black eyes, black hair, or midnight as he
prefers for it to be called, goes well with the night indeed.

I turn and gaze at blazing black eyes. I give him a small smile and return
to my solo dancing.

"Could I have this dance?" he asks as a slow dance starts up. I sigh. Might
as well, nothing to lose. I merely, nod and he snakes his hands around my
waist as I place mine on his shoulder blades. Such supple strength in them,
such innocence in this boy.

"Do not lose your innocence Midnight," I silently whisper unto his ear.

"Huh?" he asks dumbfound. "What do you mean?"

"Don't let anyone take advantage of you. Go straight home tonight, alone."
I take leave of him there as he looks at me with lost eyes. I grab my
jacket from my chair and head out. Another perfect night, ruined due to
this wretched power of mine. I flag a cab and get in.

I at once sense a presence here that is not moral. I look closely and let
my mind wander. Ah, another of my type. I look out the window and pull it
down. Suddenly enough a blazing rainstorm starts.

"Damn. Sorry my good sir, it seems we're in the middle of a nightmare
here. There was no rain on the forecast tonight," he informs me, as if I
couldn't tell myself. He must be a weather shifter. I close my window and
place my hand on his shoulder. All of his thoughts flood into mine. And I
was right, he does have power over the weather. A dangerous power, but
useless against me.

"Do not worry. I'm in no rush. Tell me what is your name?"

"Aaron sir. Do you mind if we pull to the side, I don't like driving in the
rain." A simple ploy so as to feed on me. I merely chuckle and pull down my
window once more. I whisper to the wind, [go my friend, tell the clouds to
stop their torrent]. As quickly as it is said, it is so and the rain stops.

"I see no need Aaron. It seems like it was only a passing storm." I laugh
to myself as I can feel his rage building in him. How peculiar, he believes
that there is another weather shifter in the area. "No Aaron, there is no
other weather shifter in the area."

The cab swerves to the right and stops as Aaron turns around and looks at
me, with a quite comical shocked expression. "What did you say?"

"You know very well what I said Aaron. You cannot feed on me. Open the door
Aaron." I state with none too kind words.

"And who are you to tell me what to do? This is my car, my rules, my way."

"Didn't your mother ever teach you manners? Oh wait, you couldn't have a
mother. You were brought into this world out of lust, by someone who you
thought you would be with for eternity. Its funny how things work, isn't
it. Never quiet the way we want them to."

He lets out an unearthly scream and jumps up onto me. Always the hard way,
it must be then. I grab his arm and swing him back, smacking the door wide
open and letting him fall to the ground. He slowly gets back up. "What kind
of demon are you?"

"I am no demon Aaron Shawn. I too, am a vampire. But unlike you, I have
many friends." With that said, I whisper to the wind, [have fun, he's
yours]. A howling wind picks up and lifts him into the air. Some may think
it is cruel, but sometimes, you just have to be. Time and time has shown me
again this simple fact of life. I simply just walk away. It seems I have
been doing that often now, just walking away. But what else am I to do? How
am I supposed to intermingle with anyone when I already know everything
about them with but a mere touch or brush? An effortless look into the eyes
can tell me volumes, for this is the power that came to me when I entered
this world. It seems so long ago, he seems so long ago.

I'll never forget him, or that day for that matter, the day he broke my
heart, as it has been ever since. But I have learned it is a waste to dwell
on the past, however painful it might be. I've become much stronger of it
now, but I fear I will never be the same person I once was, or even love
for that matter. It seems my wandering has led me to another club. I draw
my jacked closer in into my body and head in, untroubled by the bouncer for
one look at my eyes told his instincts otherwise.

A little more lively here, the music louder and stronger, more bodies in
one room. It is then I notice an increased number of vampires. I realize a
little too late I have walked into `The Lair.' Joy, more harassment. I feel
one's powers trying to break into my mind

I let out a sigh and allow him access to the special part of my brain I
have reserved for these matters, a place where there is nothing but useless
stuff. Time has taught me what information is useless and that it is much
easier to allow access to this information than prevents people from trying
to read your mind. This way, there is much less friction and a lot more
ease.

"Looking for a place tonight babe?" the same vampire who read my mind
approaches.

"No, not really. I have my own." I try to move on but he sticks his hand
out in front of me, blocking my passage. I look back into his deep brown
eyes.

"Company then? I can make it worth your while. Money? Clothes? Blood?
Whatever you want I can give you." So predictable, it really is a shame
though.

"No, I'm fine really. Thanks though, I'll keep you in mind." When I tried
to push my way past him, he got rather aggressive and pushed against me.

"Look I'm tired of playing around. Either we do this the easy way or the
hard way?" Little did he realize that either way, he would never get me. It
was just a matter of how severe I needed to be in my punishment for him. I
look at my watch and let out a small chuckle. Fifteen more minutes and I'm
due at the `Forsaken Paradise,' another dance club I work at nowadays. It's
the once constant in my life I guess, running around every single second of
my life gets rather boring.

"I'm sorry, I think you didn't hear me well. I need to go, and I'm going
alone. End of story, enough said." When he tried to push into me, I grabbed
his arm and flung him back sending him flying over me. I never saw what
happened to him, I didn't think it would be same for me. I made quick and
busted ass with a small smirk.

I once more glanced at my watch and realized I would never make it in time
the club in time at the rate I was going. I needed a motorcycle, but from
where. I sensed around me and found one not too far off. [Come my friend,
let us make haste,] and it was within site soon enough and off we were. I
made t to the club in record time but I greatly missed the feeling of the
wind against me. But then again, I guess I could ask it to do that to me
anytime.

"Angel, there you are. I was getting worried you weren't going to make it."
Marcus was a young vampire in charge of the club, so na^Ėve and so worried
about the welfare of it. Time alone would be able to teach him the true
important things in life.

"Sorry Marcus, I was delayed." He glanced at me with a worried look.

"You didn't, you know, ummm, you know," it was rather comical seeing him
struggle with his words.

"No Marcus I didn't kill him. Calm down, you know I'm not like that." He
lets out a deep sigh.

"Sorry Angel, I shouldn't have doubted you, but you know me, always
paranoid." I only smile and continue on into the worker's lounge. I go to
my locker and take out my clothes. I head to the dressing room and change
into my work clothes, or more dress out of my clothes now since there isn't
much I switch into. A form-fitting, white wife-beater is my top, and
simple, white leather pants form my bottom. A black choker, belt, and
black, leather shoes finish off the ensemble. On the shirt, the word Angel
is written across in huge, black letters.

I head out and notice the usual faces. Here and there, I see new faces and
feel new presences. But what catches my eye most is him. The Grand Council
Master Troy has decided to flatter the club by attending tonight's
dance. He waves me over and I grumpily head over.

"I'll have the usual. And you baby?" Troy orders as if he owns the place, I
hate egotistical bastards like him. It is then that I notice another person
sitting there. His eyes bear into mine and I am mildly amused.

"I don't know Troy. I'm going to go look and see what they serve." There's
a hint of sorrow in that voice of his, but why should one as young as he
bear such trouble enough to cause such pain in the voice?

"You'll be fine won't you? I mean there is some scum here that I would
never trust, especially with you. They would immediately take advantage of
you. I mean," he was about to continue when mystery boy interrupted him.

"I'll be fine Troy. I can take care of myself. Plus, Angel here can lead me
there, are you happy?" he says nonchalantly, throwing my name in there. It
surprises me that he would add me, but who am I to argue. I simply nod and
he begins to follow me. As I walk, I can feel his eyes trying to bear into
my mind.

I must admit, he is absolutely stunning. But I have lost that lust so long
ago. It seems ages since I even had release, but who's counting. We reach
the counter and I head in and turn around to face him once more. He looks
straight at me and his eyes hold me in place.

My heart begins to race for some odd reason. I feel short of breath. It is
at this pivotal time that Marcus decides to enter. He notices something
wrong with me and is at my side immediately.

"Angel, are you ok?" the concern is clearly etched in his voice. "Let me
get you some water." When he does, I take the glance and seem myself
reflected in it. It then falls into place.

"Tell me, good sire, since when do you use such tactics as Medusa's Eye to
seduce others. I would expect Troy would be enough?" I cautiously ask him,
all the while, watching his facial expressions. The hint of any sort of
attack and he'll be in for one hell of a beating.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. It just happens when I'm not controlling
it. And I was being a little careless a moment ago. There's something on
your arm here. Let me wipe it off." Before I am able to pull my arm back,
he touches it and once more, the usual flooding is apparent. But this time,
one thought sticks out: `Such beauty, such perfection, God forbid if I
don't become blinded by this true angel.'

"I am no true angel, Lex." He looks taken back as he looks at me with
scared eyes. "Do not fear, I will not hurt you. I just ask you go back to
Troy now, he's getting impatient. Here, try this. It's called Pure Vampiric
Blood, as ironic as it is, it is just as good." He absently takes the glass
and just stands there.

`How can one so be so beautiful and yet not divine?' I sigh and push him
gently in the way towards Troy and he regretfully walks off, just as I have
done to so many before him. He is no exception. A common ritual almost.

It is at that precise moment, one of my favorite mortal songs blasted onto
the speakers. My head slowly bobs to the music. I let myself loose for a
while. Before I get more than a few moments to breathe in and out, Troy
decides to make his presence known.

"Waiter. I need more drink. And Lexi here would also like more." I sigh to
myself and continue on with this routine of mine. As I'm about to walk back
and hand them their drinks, a premonition settles over me. Another member
of the Grand Council? My, we're getting rather popular. "Hello? Our
drinks?" the irritation is rather evident here.

"Stop being such a bitch to him Troyan. You never do change. And who's the
unlucky vampire you managed to ensnare today?" Troy'an' immediately shot up
out of his chair and pushed me roughly out of the way.

"I will not let you talk about him in that manner Minerva." Rage was
seething from his eyes as the place started to heat up.

"Temper Troyan," Minerva replied nonchalantly.

"You will not call me that. My name is Troy, not Troyan. Do not make me any
angrier." The room was starting to get really hot and the tension in the
room could have been cut with a knife, even one so blunt it wouldn't even
be called a knife. Everyone had stopped doing what they were doing a moment
before and were watching the scene unfold. I noticed Marcus looking on with
a worried heart. Looks, like my time to interject.

"That is very important Grand Council member, but could you please take
this discussion elsewhere? The club is being disturbed by not only your
talk but your powers as well," I say ever so sweetly. I smile to myself as
I wait for some lip from Troy.

"Imbecile. How dare you try and tell me what to do." He grabs for me and
gets a good hold of my hand. "Why don't you cool down?" With that said, he
proceeded on to cool my hand. Marcus immediately bolted and pushed Troy out
of the way.

"Angel, are you okay?" he asks in such an adorable, worried tone.

"I'm fine Marcus, really, it's nothing. Just a small frostbite. Only a
sting, nothing that won't heal, you worry too much." Although it is rather
weak, it succeeds in soothing his agitation enough to return back to
semi-paranoia instead of full-blown-paranoia. Now that would be a sight I
hope I do not see. All of a sudden, flames encircle Marcus and start to
enclose him. He lets out a whimper, for fire is what scares him most.

"TROYAN! Stop this immediately. You're crossing the line." Minerva yells,
in an exasperated tone.

"Fuck off. This bastard thinks he can push me. I'll show him." He proceeds
to continue, as Lex just sits and stares on, unsure of what to do.

In dead, ice cold, somber tones, I tell Troy, "Troy, stop the fire. Now."

"Who do you think you are ordering me around like that. I could have you
arrested. Now stay out of this, no one humiliates me. Ever." He continues
his onslaught and Marcus lets out a scream.

Former rage rushes into me and the wind starts to howl. Immediately, the
fire is put out. Troy looks dumbstruck as he once more tries to restart the
fire. "I warned you once Troy. You didn't heed me. Now, leave by your
consent or I will personally make sure you leave."

"Why you little,"

"SILENCE! You have no idea who I am, now what I am capable of Troyan. Do
not cross my lines, if you know what is good for you. And take your boy toy
with you." Lex looks at me with hurt eyes.

"I'm no toy," he whispers slowly.

"That's not what you were telling Troy when he was screwing you in your
room this afternoon." Troy and Lex both look at me with wide eyes. Next to
me, Minerva lets out a boisterous laugh.

"You still don't know who this is, do you Troyan?" her voice is coated with
a sneer.

"What?" he answers dumbfound.

"The honors are yours, Angel." With her permission, I snicker and tap
Troy's hand as my eyes glow a hollow black. Troy lets out a small gasp as
he recognizes the place.

"No, it cannot be." He stares at me with watery eyes.

"And why can it not be?" I ask with pure malice in my voice.

"I saw you. I saw you die. You died that day," he battled with his
emotions.

"You saw what you wanted to see. My love."
