                           Birthday Now [part 2]

The next day Brody only worked half a day since it was his birthday.  He
didn't know it at the time, but he was also going to a birthday party
tonight.  My friend Rob and my cousin Daniel were helping me throw the
surprise party at Daniel's place.

Rob is the friend who has asked me to exhibit my work at his art show.  I
was glad he'd get to meet him before the show.  Rob.is pretty different at
his art shows.  He hovers from one person to the next making small talk.
You'd think he was a total snob if you didn't meet him in a more 'normal'
environment.

I had told Brody I needed to pick up something at Daniel's house for the
show this weekend.  He was more than happy to go with me, so the trap was
set.  I wish I could have invited some of his friends to the party, but
come to think of it.I don't know his friends.  His family is in Florida, so
no go there either.

"So how was your day?"  I asked as we drove towards the party.

"It was okay.  I was glad to get out early though.  I guess I'll have to
work late Thursday or Friday one to make up for the time off though.  I was
working as fast as I could though today, so it shouldn't take long to make
production."  He told me.

"I hope you didn't work too hard.  I want you to have a good birthday
evening with me."  I said grabbing his hand.  I continued to hold it as he
drove.

"Don't worry; I didn't over do it.  I have all the energy you could ask
for."  Brody said and winked.

Brody was surprised when we went inside my cousin's house and there was one
of those happy birthday streamers hung up, and there were 3 presents
setting on a table.

"You guys, you shouldn't have!"  Brody said blushing.

"It was our pleasure."  Daniel said, giving Brody a hug.

"Now Brody I'd like you to meet my friend Rob.  He owns the art Gallery I
told you about, and he wants me to be in his show this weekend."  I said.

"Great to meet you man."  Brody said and shook his hand.

"Oh, your taste is marvelous as usual Anthony.  First at art, and now you
found the most handsome man I've seen in ages."  Rob was some what of a
flirt.

"Thanks."  Brody and I said at the same time and laughed it off.

Brody was surprised again when the birthday cake was brought out with 28
candles lit.  It was a fair sized blaze.

"Couldn't you have used the number candles- that looks like a fire hazard?"
Brody said.

"Just wait till you get to my age, hun."  Rob said.  Rob was 45.

Brody blew out the candles-as we finished singing the birthday song.

"Yay, present time!  We all three put our heads and wallets together and
came up with three gifts.  One is a funny gift, one is a romantic gift, and
one is practical.  Boring I know!"  Rob explained.

"I'll start with the funny one."  Brody choose and opened the gift Daniel
handed him.

"Oh my, what is this?"  It happened to be a pair of handcuffs.  Maybe that
was more of a naughty gift.

"I thought you guys might like to try something a bit more interesting."
Daniel said with a wink.

"All right then-how about practical next.  I want to save the best for
last."  Brody said.

"Here you go, it's something everyone needs."  Rob said as he handed the
gift over.

"Oh wow!  It's a new cell phone.  I can't believe you remembered I broke
mine."  Brody had told Daniel he didn't have a cell phone anymore during
the weekend we had visited him.  Daniel was a firm believer that everyone
should have a phone at all times, and Rob fully supported the theory.

"Now if you can just talk Anthony into getting one, we'll all be on the
same network."  Rob said with a smile.

"Fine!  I'll get one soon, I promise.  I just don't care for them much."  I
told him.

"And finally the romantic gift, that I picked out for you all by myself."
I handed him the gift.

It was a silver bracelet with his and my initials engraved on the inside.
"B&A"

"That's awesome! You shouldn't have spent so much money on my gift though
babe."  Brody said.

"It wasn't too much really, it was on sale.  I just thought it'd look good
on you."  I said.

"I'm sure it will."  Brody said and kissed me.

"I hate to interrupt you, but Rob and I have one more surprise."  Rob
pulled out another box.

"When we saw what you got Brody we couldn't resist getting one just like it
for you."  Daniel told us.

"You shouldn't have!  Oh wow!  Thanks guys."  The Bracelet was identical
except the initials were flipped to "A&B"

"Okay, I appreciate the gesture, but that really should come from me since
he's my boyfriend.  So you'll have to let me pay you back."  Brody said.

Daniel started to argue, but Rob stopped him. "Spoken like a true
gentleman.  Let the man buy the bracelet."

So it was we both gave each other the first symbol of our relationship.
Brody and I were slow dancing to some music that Rob had put on the stereo
when he whispered in my ear.

"I really wish we had a moment alone right now."  He said. Then suddenly
Rob and Daniel disappeared from the room.

"What's going on?"  I asked him.

"I made a wish, and I guess it came true."  Brody said.  He led me to the
other side of the room and kissed me passionately.

After the kiss broke, I said, "So wait you had to wish away everyone to do
that?"  I asked confused and smiling at the same time.

"I just wanted it to be special for us."  Brody said and suddenly everyone
shifted back into the room.

"But you were both standing over there!"  Rob said confused.

"You are probably just mistaken Rob my friend."  Daniel said and then
changed the subject quickly and motioned him to dance.  Rob had set up a
sort of dance area earlier in the day, and now it was being put to use.
Daniel was straight, but for whatever reason he danced with Rob.  It seemed
to me like he was trying to distract Rob.

The rest of the party went rather nicely, if not a bit tame compared to the
rest.

"I'll see you this weekend Rob."  Daniel said as he walked our mutual
friend out.

"So, what now?" Brody asked smiling at me.

"I know my cousin; he's going to want to talk to us alone.  He's got
something on his mind."  I told him.

"How can you tell?"  Brody asked.

"He was way too quick to cover for us when everyone reappeared.  I mean
even I was freaked out a little by the whole vanishing act, but Daniel
seemed to be calm about it all."  I told him.

"That's a good point.  Maybe he'll know something about what's been
happening to us?" He asked.

"Maybe so.  It would be nice to have a few answers."

Just then Daniel returned.  He seemed a bit agitated or stressed.

"You guys have to be more careful with your magic.  Rob hasn't been exposed
to anything like that, and the less people who know about you two the
better." Daniel said.

"Know about what?  We don't even know why strange things keep happening to
us."  I said.

"Oh, I thought you must have figured it out if you were able to move us out
of the time stream like that."  Daniel said.

"Is that what I did?  I just wished to have some alone time with Anthony."
Brody said worried.

"You really need to be careful about making wishes you guys.  How to
explain this?"  Daniel scratched his head and seemed to be lost in thought.

"Talking could be a start."  I said trying to move it along.

"Right, okay here's the deal.  Once a generation in our family someone will
inherit the powers of an angel.  It seems that one of our really distant
relatives was an angel, but he chose to become mortal in order to live on
earth with his bride.  He lost most of his powers, but some of them
survived in his youngest son.  That son passed it on to one of his kids,
etc.  The last person in our family that had the power was our grandmother.
It apparently skips a generation now.  She was talking to my mother about
it one day, and I over heard it.  She told me the power was in you!  I
wanted to run and tell you that day, but she made me promise not to say
anything.  She said you would find the power when you met your.Well I guess
it was activated when you met Brody."  Daniel told us.

"So Brody activated some kind of angelic power in me when we met, but why
was he the one that shifted the people out of the room?"  I asked.

"Okay, well I don't want to jump to conclusions here, but I do know there's
really only one way that power would be shared with Brody.  You would have
to have a seriously powerful bond, and I'm not just talking about
friendship." Daniel told us.

"That makes sense I guess.  I know I feel closer and closer to Anthony
every day." Brody said.

"So you are saying since he's my boyfriend he gets to share my power?"  I
asked.

"There's more, but I think I better let you figure that out on your own.
Grandmother always said 'Everything in its own time'.  However, as long as
you know this much I think you'll be ready for what's to come."  Daniel
said.

"Did she ever mention a cave?"  I asked him.

"No, what cave are you referring to?"  Daniel asked.

I explained the whole incident at the cave, and much to my dismay Daniel
didn't offer anything useful about that whole deal.  I was glad to hear
that I had some sort of magical mojo though.  If I was going back to that
place, I wanted to be prepared.

"I think you both need to start learning to control your powers.  I mean,
you lucked out this time, but you could have easily hurt someone making
them vanish like that."  Daniel said.

"I'll be more careful.  Is wishing the only way the powers work?"  Brody
asked.

"No, it isn't really meant to be used that way at all.  However you've both
tapped into it accidentally.  Just try to focus and you'll be able to do
some really cool stuff.  I wish I could be more help, but it's not like I
have ever used any form of magic before.  It's all mental projection
though, according to what Grandma used to say."

It was a lot to think about, and to be honest I really preferred to just
enjoy Brody's birthday for the rest of the evening.

"I think for now, we need to go and celebrate what's left of your birthday,
and worry about the rest later."  I said to Brody as we were heading home.

"Agreed, I still have a lot of energy that needs to be used before bed
time."  Brody said with a big smile on his face.

"So I take it I'm staying over again?"  I asked.

"You bet you are.  You won't be in any shape to drive by the time we get
through celebrating."

Brody was good on his word.  Brody led me to his bedroom when we arrived.
He took my hand and pulled me towards the bed, and then he started undoing
the buttons on my shirt.  He kissed me softly as he tweaked my right nipple
