Well, the dreams were back, only they seemed to be more than just
his usual nightmares. These seemed more like visions; random, inexplicable
images. He was running through the subway tunnels, his vision red as if he
were in wolf form. As he passed under the sidewalk grates, he'd see a blue
moon, then water flowing through, dripping onto the tracks. Then a fast
approaching train. He leapt up onto the roof and ran along the top, until
diving between two cars and entering the subway car through the door, now
suddenly in human form again. There would be only one boy in the car. He'd
see Hunter, but all Hunter would be able to see are his eyes; dark, deep
eyes. Once the subway stopped, he got up and walked out. Hunter followed
him out, on the platform, up the stairs, and onto the street. But once he
got onto the street, the boy was gone and all he could see were vast
multitudes of people. Just ordinary pedestrians, strolling about as if it
were in the middle of the afternoon. Except it was night, and it was
pouring rain. They all had long black raincoats and black umbrellas,
turning them into one entity, undulating like angry river currents, with
eddies and vortices. Hunter was soaked to the bone, and frantically began
searching for the boy in the crowd. As he was pushing his way desperately
through the crowds, he caught fleeting glances of the boy, but always
missed him by a bit. He noticed that despite the clouds, the blue moon
continued to shine down onto the crowds. Further more, it's concentrated
beam was tracing his movements, like a searchlight. Hunter couldn't hide
from the light as it blinded him, making his search impossible. Finally he
fell on his knees and stared up at the moon in contempt and
resignation. For the first time in his life, he surrendered. The moon
seemed to be fading, until Hunter noticed that it was just getting
smaller. As it receded into the night, it's piercing blue glow never
fading, he saw it become an eye. The eye of the boy. His hood partially
shadowed his face, but his eyes shone through. The boy was standing over
Hunter and put his hand under his chin, gently lifting up his head and he
withdrew his hood. But then, just Hunter was about to see his face, he woke
up. Again.

When Hunter became aware of his surroundings and that he had once
again had the dream, he punched his pillow in frustration. Why can't he
ever see his face? What made the boy so special that he felt safe
surrendering to him? Maybe they were stupid questions, but ever since
Hunter had begun having those recurring dreams, nothing made
sense. Something in his gut told him that these were more than just dreams,
that they were messages. Somebody was telling him, or warning him, about
someone. Werewolves always trust their instincts, it was part of their
heritage as proud warriors. Never think, because you thoughts can trick
you, because vampires can trick your thoughts. If you think about your
next blow, a vampire can make you doubt it, and that split-second of
distraction is all it takes. Just trust your gut. What you can see,
touch, smell, taste, not what you think you can see, touch, smell or
taste. There is a difference, but only well-trained wolves can master
it. Hunter was very well-trained.

"How did the meeting go?" The man asked Sanger in accented english
when he entered the laboratory.

"Perfect, they're on board for Omega."

"How did you finally convince them?"

"Time. All the raids have weakened their resolve," Sanger hesitated
before continuing, "also... I told them about the Renegade."

This made the man look up at Sanger for the first time with a look
of curiosity and concern, "Did you tell them everything?"

"No, no of course not," Sanger rushed to his own defense, "Only
that which they needed to know and would convince them further."

	"Which would be...?"

"That the Renegade was the return of Viktor in a new form according
to the Hybrid Legend. That he was planning an impending Werewolf Armageddon
and that's what is behind their increasingly aggressive
behavior. Basically, that he will lead them all against us in some night
predicted by the Prophets in a battle that will last until the Red Dawn."

"... The vampire Apocalypse. Good, that is all?" He was
comforted. Sanger didn't even know it all himself.

"Yes, I swear. That is accurate, right? According to the Prophets'
records?"

"Yes, yes, I read them myself." He waved away Sanger's question,
"so are they going to retrieve him from the humans?"

"Yes, Wu sent a team and Carrion will store him."

"Good. You did well, my friend." The man warmed up at hearing of
his plan's success.

Sanger still had his doubts, "Are you sure we're not playing too
dangerous a game? Manipulating the other two Members?"

"Of course not, not when you think of what we're working towards."

"What happens when we have the Renegade? How much closer will we be
to annihilating them all?"

"Viktor is only half the battle. According to the texts, the union
will be along the same division that have always existed between our two
people; body and mind. Viktor is only body. Not to mention the other steps
we must take." He gently reminded Sanger, to which he replied with a
knowing nod.

"So what else are we looking for?"

"This is all leading up to the final showdown between the two
species. The union will encompass us all and we must be prepared for it
first. Both sides could be exterminated, or we can turn it to our own
advantage."

"And destroy them first." Sanger was satisfied with this
explanation and exited the lab. As he left, another man entered. This one
appeared to be in his late twenties and had shaggy blonde hair and green
eyes. He appeared generally disheveled.

The older scientist recognized one of his favorite experiments and
greeted him warmly, "Trey, how are you? Did your assignment go well?"

"Yes, sir. I gave the wolf one of my snow tests and he demonstrated
all the necessary qualities. Powerful senses, persistence, control; he
would sustain the change easily."

"Good, good. However my search is only half complete with
him. There is still the other."

	"Which?"

"I don't know. A vampire, I know, but I still have to look."

Trey ventured to ask a more sensitive question, "if you don't mind
my asking, what is this project of yours anyway?"

He sighed, "I suppose you've been around long enough to deserve the
answer to that question. Sit, please." Trey did so and he continued, "every
since my days in alchemy, my goal has been a union of the two species.
Apart, werewolves and vampires allow their human-like hubris to blind them
from the potential in joining forces. Perfect mind meets perfect body. You
understand, I'm sure, I've always kept you and the others in a peaceful
environment without such outdated prejudices. Back during the days of the
Prophets, they predicted, well, not so much predicted as reasoned, that a
union of the species was inevitable. They credited evolution would
ultimately provide a blood type capable of sustaining both changes. They
were vague, but I know their will be two unions; one of body and one of
mind. I've tried filling in their blanks with research and reasoned on my
own that the Hybrid Legend, a separate tale, foretells of the union of
body."

	"And mind?"

"That union will be between a werewolf and a vampire with a very
strong, deep mental connection, possibly love. The wolf you followed I
believe to be one half of the second union. It took me years to identify
him, but thanks to Sanger's resources, the task has been made much easier.
He of course has no idea that my true goal is to encourage the union, not
use it to continue this senseless war."

"If that is true, than why do you work with vampires? Especially ones such
as these who are so anti-wolf?"

"Sanger provided me with the resources I needed and I agreed to provide
him with the technology to give him dominion over the Underworld, I had no
choice at the time."

"Wow, these really are changing times, huh?"

"More than that, it's a countdown."
