Chapter 5

As we walked out the front door I noticed my truck was missing.

"What happened to my truck?" I asked, upset mostly because I had paid for
that truck on my own through hard work.

"Last night after leaving you here alone I drove it back to James'
school. It wouldn't do for the authorities to find it here... That would
cause all kinds of problems as I'm sure you can imagine." He responded.

I understood the reasoning, but I was still sad. I liked my truck.

We got in his car and he cranked it up.

"Since your picture was plastered all over the TV last night we'll have to
be careful for a while about who sees you, and where." He paused to back
out the driveway. "Fortunately you currently have kind of shaggy hair, and
in all the pictures on TV it was similar. A quick haircut and hair color
change should fix anyone recognizing you except your parents and your close
friends."

"I didn't have many friends and none that were close around Atlanta, so my
family is the only people we have to worry about... Since they are on the
opposite side of Atlanta I don't think we have much to worry about in that
regard..." I said sadly, thinking about the life I had left behind.

"So, first stop, a hair stylist outside of the metro area, seeing as it is
not at all likely that they saw you on the news." He said. "Wanna go to
Macon, or Chattanooga?" He asked

"It's been a while since I've been to Chattanooga." I mentioned, thinking
it was a bit more interesting and could be more romantic than Macon.

We listened to the Sirius radio in the car as we were getting out of the
metro area. After leaving the downtown and suburbs behind I continued to
flip through the stations, but couldn't find any decent songs. I decided to
take the opportunity to bring up the gun thing with Bryce.

"So, how do you feel about guns?" I asked, thinking back to the nights
before.

"I think they're relatively weak against us immortals, though they have
range that our claws and teeth don't..." He paused. "Your encounter with
that vampire tells me that when used properly, they can be used to our
advantage in certain situations."

I nodded and added "And that was just a pistol. Imagine what an assault
rifle could do." Trying to point him in the right direction.

"You must have been talking to Jackson." He said tiredly, but with a smile.

"We did discuss guns shortly." I mentioned, grinning. "Figures he'd
recruit you to his cause for an armory." He said.

"Actually I brought it up." I said. "I wondered where all the guns were. I
figured you guys would have plenty."

"Well, like I said I didn't put much stock in them until I saw what you did
with yours." He said. "What do you and Jackson have in mind?"

"Let me ask you this, what happens if the den is attacked either by another
pack of unfriendly wolves, or the off chance by vampires?" I asked curious.

"We fend them off with our teeth and claws. Most vampires are no match for
a transformed werewolf. As for another pack, it's pretty unlikely, but if
they do, we'll defend the den the same way." He mentioned in thought.

"What happens if there's an overwhelming number of vampires or wolves
attack? Like say fifty?" I asked, completely serious.

"Then we'll die defending our den." He said assuredly.

I gave him a slightly downcast look. "You'd let myself and Zeke just die?"

"No, you'd defend the pack, den, and yourself at all costs, in that order."
He said.

"Don't you think you're over reacting?" I said, upset with him now. "Zeke
was just 16 when he was turned, he'll never be as strong as the rest of us,
and I won't come into my full strength for a while, at least according to
you. How could you just sentence us to death in the event of an attack?" I
asked.

"I suppose I had never thought of it like that, and the point about having
more range is a good one, we could at least weaken them before they reach
us..." He said deep in thought.

"And what about an escape plan? Assuming we get overrun somehow, what would
we do? I'm not prepared to die for material possessions. Sure the
belongings in the den are precious to us, but not worth anyone's life. You
don't have any sort of escape plan?" I asked abhorred.

"It's just never come up. I'm pretty much the strongest alpha in the area,
no one's going to fuck with our pack and not expect consequences... But I
do see your point, Tom. Discuss your ideas with Jackson and run them by me,
and we'll figure out something there." He paused to change lanes to pass a
particularly slow car with a woman who looked about 90 behind the wheel.

"Hey...? Do we age?" I asked not totally sure.

"Everyone ages, I'm actually somewhere around 170. Obviously I was bitten
at twenty five. However, our bodies don't get older. Our ability to
regenerate keeps our body from breaking down over time which causes aging."
I nodded at him elated I'd never look like granny over there.

"So what are you thinking about gun wise? How much you think we'll end up
spending?" he asked.

"Well" I paused to think "Everyone should have a sidearm... since recoil
isn't going to be an issue and neither will concealment be one, I think, so
those should be 45 caliber. HK USP 45 tactical should be ideal, that way we
can get a suppressor for it if need be, and other accessories... As for
rifles – there should be a Colt M4 LE for everyone... full auto of
course... that will run about 3grand a piece, and for the USP it will be
about 1500 a piece. If we're going to get some optics and other accessories
for the rifles we should count on another grand a piece at least.

"Finally we should also have a couple full auto MP5s... these are pretty
rare but very reliable... They'll run us about 10,000 a piece..." I said
beginning to cringe as the numbers added up in my head.

"So basically a shit load of money." He said.

"Yeah pretty much." I responded.

"Well, we'll work on getting them after you and Jackson make up your minds
on everything." He said, falling into silence.

At that point I figured we were probably halfway to Chattanooga, so I
turned the music back up and promptly fell asleep. The dreamless sleep was
refreshing the rest of the way to Chattanooga. I woke up feeling Bryce
stroke my leg gently calling my name.

I opened my eyes to see that we had parked in front of a mall.

"You ready?" Bryce asked me.

I nodded and stepped out of the car. The temperature change woke me up the
rest of the way, it was COLD outside!

"Ready to get a haircut?" Bryce asked me.

"I suppose." I said. I liked my longish emoish hair, but I always did look
really good with short spiky hair too.

We went into the mall and walked around for a bit. I was kind of cautious,
watching everyone to see if they would recognize me, no one did of course,
but that didn't stop me from expecting it every time I turned a corner.

"Can you calm down a little now? I know you're nervous but the only reason
people here will notice you is if you act weird or nervous... So just calm
down and everything will be alright." He put his hand on my shoulder which
instantly calmed me a good bit. I knew he wouldn't let anything happen to
me.

We walked into the hair salon place and it was pretty much dead... Then
again it was about two thirty on a Monday. I let the person working there
know that I wanted my hair bleached (it was currently a light brown color)
and cut to about an inch in length.

About an hour later and a bunch of painful hair pulling through the washes
and dyes, I was looking into the mirror at a sexy guy with blonde spiky
hair. I walked back to the front of the salon and as soon as Bryce saw me
he started grinning.

"You look great." He said before the lady that did my hair came back
towards the front.

He gave me some money to pay with, since I hadn't been able to get any of
my old stuff from home or the bank, which included money. I didn't tip her
much because it felt like she was trying to rip my scalp off when she was
washing my hair each time.

As we walked out of the store Bryce kept looking at me and smiling.

"You really do look good." He told me again. I smiled at him. "You have no
idea how much of a turn on you are to me right now... You're hot!" I'm sure
at that point I blushed.

"You want to go eat first or find some clothes?" He asked.

"Clothes?" I asked.

"Yeah, you can't wear the same clothes all the time, pup. I know I didn't
allow you to get anything from your home, so you'll have to get some
yourself." He responded.

"Well, it wasn't too long since we ate brunch, so let's get the shopping
out of the way." I said.

We found a Hollister store where I bought a few shirts and a pair of jeans,
and some boxer briefs. We then headed a few stores down to Abercrombie
where I bought more of the same and a hoodie. Finally we went to JC Penny
and bought some Levis, some bigger than my size, and some my correct size,
so that I'd still be able to carry my gun in the ones that are bigger for
the times that I carried concealed.

We escaped the mall without having to work for the stores we bought stuff
from. I'm not sure how much money Bryce was carrying, but it must have been
a lot.

As we left the mall he told me he had a surprise for me. After driving
around what must have been thirty minutes on a small highway up in the
hills we pulled into what looked like an old mining area, though from
glancing at the signs and seeing several rather large people carrying
cameras it was obviously a tourist trap.

"I've always wanted to come here." Bryce said to me. "I've just never had
the chance to come up here with anyone. Several of the guys like going out
and camping, but usually they hate stuff like this, and we generally shy
away from things like this usually."

As we walked towards what looked to be the entrance I saw a sign that read
"Welcome to Ruby Falls". We entered and paid for two tickets, then waited
in line to ride an elevator with a small group of people to the cave
below. As we continued through the cave to the falls and received the
typical tourist treatment, the guide treated us like twelve year olds,
stating obvious facts about the formation of the cave. Most of it was
tedious but we did learn a few interesting things about the
area. Apparently there's a larger cavern below the one open to the public,
and I thought to myself that I'd enjoy exploring that one. I mentioned it
to Bryce and he agreed that it would be cool.

Near the end of the tour we came across the actual underground waterfall,
and decided on playing the stereotypical tourist, taking lots of photos and
acting like it was the most amazing thing we'd ever seen. After returning
to the surface we continued along the highway, stopping at another small
place called Rock City, which I found to be less then exciting. The views
from the tops of the cliffs were cool, but that was pretty much the only
interesting thing in that trap. Some of the attractions at Rock City were
freakish in nature.

We rode back down to the downtown area of Chattanooga and wandered around
the waterfront for awhile. Near a plaza we found a TGI Fridays and decided
eat and enjoy evening.

We got out of the car and walked in. By now it was around 7 pm and we were
starving. We waited a few minutes and then got seated. We chatted about the
experiences of the day as we waited. Finally the waiter came and took our
order, I ordered a rib eye medium rare, and Bryce ordered his rare.

After about ten minutes of more chatting I told Bryce that I had to go
pee. I stood up and went to the bathroom. I went to a urinal and did my
thing. As I was zipping up I saw someone come in that for some reason
caught my eye. He was sort of attractive but that wasn't what drew me to
him. I couldn't put my finger on what it was. I decided to wash my hands
slowly so I could continue watching him and try to figure out what why he
piqued my interest.

I look away from the mirror to dry my hands and the next thing I know I
feel a hand on my shoulder and I'm thrown across the bathroom and into the
wall.

"You're new, bitch." The guy said walking towards me. "Mmm you smell
good. You're going to make a good toy for me and my boys."

I looked up at him, my head still spinning from being slammed into the
wall. "What? No." Was all I could spit out. I had a terrified look in my
eyes.

"Oh yes, this is going to be good." He said as he was pulling his cock out
of his pants. "Open wide bitch boy."

Just then the bathroom door swung open.

"Tom what's taking so..." But Bryce didn't finish his sentence. A look of
rage crossed his face as he saw my attacker standing over me.

"Hey man, you wanna piece of this slut?" the guy asked, turning his head
and seeing Bryce as he walked in.

The words had barely left his mouth when Bryce backhanded him across the
room, sending him staggering to the other end of the bathroom. I took the
opportunity to move towards the door, to try to prevent anyone from
interrupting.

I looked back and saw the guy that attacked me standing back up, still
facing the wall. "Hey man if you wanted him so bad you could have just said
something, not pushed me off him like that."

He chose that moment to turn around and saw Bryce staring him in the
face. I guess it wasn't until then that he realized that Bryce wasn't going
to help him assault me. Bryce grabbed him by the throat and lifted him up,
slamming him up against the wall.

"If you or any of your friends around here touch him EVER again, I will rip
you in half. I mean that literally." Bryce practically roared in his
face. "Now get out of here, and if I see you around when we leave, I'll
kill you." Still holding the man, he turned around and slid him across the
room on the floor, slamming the guy into the wall near the door.

His face ended up right at my foot so I took a cheap shot and kicked him in
the mouth. I'm pretty sure I knocked a couple teeth out but he didn't let
it show. He pretty much ran out the door and it closed behind him. When I
turned back around Bryce was standing right in front of me.

He planted a soft kiss on me. "Are you ok?" He asked, feeling all over my
arms and legs, finishing with my face.

"I'm fine man. I can take care of myself, mostly. He just caught me by
surprise is all. I hadn't even had time to react by the time you walked
in. Honest." I said, trying to get him to let go of me.

He wrapped his arms around me and gave me a tight hug. "As soon as I saw
what he was doing to you I saw red and freaked."

I laughed. "Just a little. Really, I'm fine now, shall we go sit down
before they think we've left?" I asked.

"Yeah." He responded quietly.

After we sat back down it was only a few seconds until our food came out. I
cut into my steak and took a bite of it. It was very good.

After chewing my first bite and swallowing I spoke again. "So were you
serious literally about ripping him in half?" I asked with a smile.

"More so than you'd expect..." He said. "That kick in the face wasn't
exactly nice either though." He responded to me.

"Yeah well, he deserved it." I responded, taking another bite of steak.

"You may have made a life long enemy out of him. He may very well try to
kill you next time he sees you." Bryce responded in a concerned voice.

"Awwe you're worried for me. Cute." I teased, smiling at him.

"I'm serious." He responded.

"Then he should make a good test of my strength after I come into it." I
responded seriously.

"Mmmm that's the Tom I watched for a year. Always wanting to get dirty." He
smiled.

We finished eating, chatting about random nothings. Finally Bryce paid and
we left. As we walked back to the car there I noticed Bryce getting
angry. As we got closer I could see why. It had been keyed and it looked
like there was a dent on the driver's side door from a foot.

"Ohhh that bastard is going to pay for this; he also pissed all over my
car. I can smell it." He growled. "After your second full moon, we're gonna
pay this bitch a visit. I know his scent well enough now, we should have no
problem finding him, and following him to wherever he lives. We'll have fun
with him."

I just kind of stood there not knowing what to say. After inspecting the
car Bryce unlocked the doors and got in. Fortunately he had not pissed on
my handle. I opened the door and sat down.

The entire way back to the den we listened to music as Bryce drove. I could
tell he was still pissed about the car. As we pulled in Justin and a guy I
didn't recognize were playing some basket ball in the driveway.

As we stepped out of the car they both had a look of shock on their
face. "Hey Justin, Alexi. I don't think you've properly been introduced to
Alexi yet, have you, Tom?" Bryce spoke.

I shook my head no. Bryce introduced us and as soon as he finished Justin
blurted out.

"What happened to the car dude?" Justin asked.

"A relatively young wolf thought he could get away with fucking with
me. Initially I interrupted him trying to uh... attack Tom, but I resolved
that and thought I did enough to scare him off and show him that I wasn't
to be fucked with. Obviously I was wrong." He said. I could tell he was
going to say something along the lines of rape before he changed it to
attack, but I don't think the others caught onto it.

"We'll be going back there 2 moons from now to fix the problem. Tom will be
having a bit of fun with him." He smiled evilly. "Justin, it's your job to
make sure Tom is in good shape and is well trained before we go back.

With that, we went downstairs and Justin started my training.

"Come on, man punch HARDER, haven't you ever fought before?" Justin said as
I was slamming my fist into his open hand as hard as I could.

"No, I've never been in a fight my whole life." I responded.

"Kids these days." Justin responded laughing.

"OK, here's what I'm going to do. I want you to try to attack me, I won't
fight back, all I will do is evade." He said.

I swung at him several times, each time hitting nothing but air.

"You need to get stronger and faster BEFORE the full moon, Tom." Justin
said looking at me.

"Why? Won't I be like crazy strong afterward anyway? And won't it be easier
to do this stuff afterward?" I asked.

"Yes and no." He started explaining. "You will definitely be faster, and
stronger, but after your change your body sort of freezes. Maybe you could
say the effects of time slow down a great deal on the body. For instance,
fingernails and hair grow much slower, the length your hair normally grows
in a month will now take at least a year, fingernails also. Generally if
you don't work out you lose your muscles, however, after the change you
pretty much keep those muscles and speed as a base for the rest of your
life. Sure you can add to it with extra work, however, you will lose the
muscle mass gained over time after the change, whereas if you gain it
before the change, you will keep it forever."

"Oh..." Was all I could think to say.

"We have two weeks to get you as strong and fast as possible I'm not sure
how good we can get you, but I'm going to do my best on you. Fortunately
while the majority of your strength and power will come after your first
change, you do already have a small boost in healing ability. The cut that
was on your face when you got back is almost completely healed already."
Justin said.

I had a shocked look on my face I'm sure, I didn't know I had been hurt, no
wonder Bryce was so crazy acting. I'm glad I was on his good side, and also
glad he's not one of the wolves who are drove insane by my scent.

I reached up to the cut on my face that I oddly became aware of after only
being told about it. "Bryce can also increase the speed of your healing,
even now, before the change."

"Let's start working out." Justin said after looking me over, sizing me up.

The next two weeks were taken up by working out, running, or hand to hand
combat training with Justin during the day, and eating a lot of red meat
and cuddling with Bryce at night. Each night my entire body would ache,
usually from all the lifting weights and running, but occasionally from
getting beat up by Justin. Bryce would put his arms around me and I would
feel my body warm up, for more than one reason. I would get aroused, but
before I could do anything, I'd get tired and pass out.

At the end of two weeks, everyone was acting a little jittery in the house.
I had gotten a good bit stronger and faster, and even could defend myself
against attacks from Zeke, although I couldn't do anything but defend.

"It's time for you to change, Tom." Bryce said, coming up behind me and
putting his arms around me. I melted into his chest as he pulled me in and
kissed and nipped at my ears.

"Tonight you become a god." He whispered into my ear.

We went up to his room and he began to strip down, understanding what was
going to happen tonight a little better, I began to also strip. He turned
to watch me take my clothes of and grinned at me.

"You really are beautiful." He said after staring at me for a few
seconds. "Come on, we gotta get downstairs. The others are waiting."

We went down stairs to the kitchen, and paused at the steps leading down to
the basement. I was nervous.

Bryce took my hand and started walking down the stairs, I had no choice but
to follow, I could tell he wasn't going to let go.

When I got to the bottom of the stairs I stopped in my tracks. I sucked in
a breath. I saw something that I was not expecting, or at least had hoped
not to see.

In the cages, that the other members of the pack were in naked, there were
the things that caught my eye... There were people in the cages. I began to
breathe harder and quickly.
