"Why would I trust you, when you always treated me like shit in high
school?"

This shut him up.  He didn't know what to say.  He sat there looking at me
and the Brad.  Brad smiled and took a bit of pizza.  There was a moment of
silence and then Tommy must have pulled his thoughts together and said "I
didn't treat you like shit, we were just in different circles.  We never
really interacted or really had any classes together."

"Ok, whatever."  I said as I took a bit of pizza.

"I am sorry if you think I treated you like shit, but I never meant to."
Tommy said seeming like he didn't know what I was talking about.

"Can we just drop it and change the topic?" I asked and he seemed to agree.

We finished dinner and talked about school, talked about Brad's time in the
military.  I had heard him talk about his time in the Philippines cleaning
up after the terrible tsunami, but not some of the details that he was
sharing.  I find that I have more and more respect for him and the other
men and women who serve our country every time he shares more of his
experience.  Brad also shared more about his relationship with Ricky and
how he couldn't wait for him to get on Sunday.  Brad paid for dinner and
both Tommy and I tried to argue with him, but let me tell you even if Tommy
and I tried to wrestle him for it we would lose.

When we got back to the house Brad said "I am going to sit in the hot tub!"
I could have killed him.  I felt like he knew exactly what he was doing and
he was trying to give me a heart attack.  I knew that Tommy would want to
go and that Brad would go naked for sure.  I think he wanted to push Tommy
to see if he would go naked or not.  He also knew that it would make me
have to choose to go naked or wear a suit.  Tommy took the bait right away
and said "That sounds nice!"  "Great I will grabs some towels, you going
too Zack?"  He said with a smile!

"Yes I am game!"  I tried to sound all confident and not nervous.

"I am going to grab a glass of water does anyone else want anything?"  I
asked as I headed toward the kitchen.  Brad hollered that he would have a
beer and Tommy decided to have one too.  Tommy was just standing there and
as Brad came back Tommy said "I didn't bring a suit can I borrow one?"
Brad just laughed and said "We don't wear suits.  I felt like I could hear
Tommy swallow and then say.  "Oh Ok!"

We all made our way to the hot tub and Brad quickly ripped off his cloths
and stood there handing out towels.  I am sure he loved showing off his
amazing body and I noticed Tommy trying to make it look like he was not
looking and also that he was not nervous. I figured, fuck it and just
pulled off my clothes and grabbed my water and towel and went and got in.
I didn't go so fast that it looked like I didn't want anyone to see and as
I was getting in Tommy was taking his pants off and I noticed him checking
me out.  I didn't think anything of it as I figured it was just guys
checking out guys.

We talked and laughed and were having a good time.  Brad finished his beer
first and hopped out to go take a piss and get another one and asked if we
needed refills.  I said I would take a beer and Tommy downed the last of
his beer and said that he would take another one too.  When Brad was away
Tommy was super quiet.  I could tell that something was on his mind and I
wondered if he was uncomfortable.  So I asked him.  "Is this making you
uncomfortable?"

He paused and said "No I am just thinking about what you said at the
restaurant.  About how I was so mean to you back in high school and stuff."
He seemed confused or almost hurt that I had said that.

"OK?"  I said questioning him.

"I guess I didn't realize that it came across like that and I didn't
realize that it affected you so much.  I am sorry that I was mean.  I
didn't mean to hurt you and I guess my friends and I, were a bunch of
assholes."

I didn't know what to say.  I was speechless.  Brad was not gone that long,
but it kind of felt like forever and after the silence in our conversation
after what Tommy just said he came in and noticed right away and said.
"Damn I leave for one second and you two freeze the hot tub!"  We laughed
and Tommy said "I was just thinking about what Zack said at dinner, about
how I was an ass in high school and thinking about how I must have come
across back then."

Tommy tried to explain that he didn't realize that he was being rude.  He
wasn't trying to be mean and that now that I said it he can't stop thinking
about the past and things that could be taken that way.  He wanted to know
that things he had done that I thought were mean and rude.  I told him
about the time that he ran into me at my locker and yelled "Fag".  That he
and his friends would talk about me and laugh.  That his group of popular
friends was pretty big and intimidating since I only hung out with my
friend Jen until my senior year when she left for college and then was
usually by myself.

Everything I was saying seemed to hit Tommy like a ton of bricks.  He said
"It is funny how different a situation seems when you are on the other side
of it.  I never meant to make you feel like that.  I guess it seemed
harmless to me and just us fucking around.  I don't think that we talked
and laughed about you like you think.  I remember the time you are talking
about when I ran into you.  Jeff and I were giving each other shit and he
pushed me and when I ran into you he was calling me a fag.  We called each
other that all the time, in practice or hanging out at each other's house.
After that day the guys keep teasing me that I had a crush on you.  They
would say that I wanted you to be my boyfriend.  I guess I over compensated
for it because I didn't want them to know that it was true!"

He stopped talking and tears ran down his face.  I felt like I had just had
all the breath sucked out of my lungs with a vacuum cleaner.  I couldn't
say anything and there was this long silence and nobody moved.  Then Brad
said "Well shit!  I didn't see that one coming!"  Which made us all laugh
and ease the moment?

"I have never told anyone before!  I know you were gay back in middle
school when you would check me out in the showers after gym.  I would catch
you looking all the time!  I would take my time getting to the shower until
you went, but would make it so you couldn't tell.  I would think about you
checking me out and after a while I found myself thinking about you more
and more.  Then I realized that I was gay and knew that I could never let
anyone know."

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!  I can't believe that Tommy is sitting here in the hot
tub telling us this.

"Ok, please say something!"  Tommy said to break the silence.

"I don't know what to say.  I am still in shock!  I can't believe you knew
about me and I never thought in a million years you were gay."

"Surprise!"  He said sounding a little sad.

"I have never told anyone.  I am not sure how I can tell my parents."

"I have not told my parents either."  I reassured him.

"Can I ask you something?"  Tommy looked at me with the most sincere eyes.

"Yes, of course."

"Do you hate me?"

I looked down and then back at him and said "I guess I did."

Another tear fell out of his eyes.  "I am really sorry I hurt you so much."

I didn't know what to say.  I told him that I guess that I can relate to
his feelings and that knowing that he did not realize how much his action
hurt me I could forgive him and that if he needed someone to talk to I
would be there for him.

"You and Troy are dating aren't you?"  He asked

"Yes!"  I said with a smile.

"He is a really lucky guy!"

I couldn't believe what I was hearing!  I had started with a crush on this
guy back in middle school and then developed this hate for him and now he
is saying all this.  It is crazy!  We decided to get out of the hot tub and
watch a movie.  My head was spinning.  Tommy seemed quiet.  Brad was
cracking us both up and told Tommy that he was really brave for sharing all
of this with us.  He also told Tommy about how Troy and I were there for
him at the beginning of the year.  After the movie and before we headed to
bed, I was saying good night to Tommy and said "Thank you for sharing with
me.  I know that it is hard, but know that I will be here for you if you
need anything."  He smiled and gave me a hug.

The rest of Tommy's visit was much more relaxed and I had a great time
showing him the school and introducing him to people!  He really seemed to
like it here and kept saying.  I think I want to come to school here.  It
is super cool!  The weekend flew by and Tommy was all packed up and ready
to head home.  He gave me a huge hug and said.  "Thank you for everything!
Please tell Brad thank you too.  It feels so much better to have shared
with you and to feel like you forgive me.  I really am sorry for acting so
stupid."

"I feel a lot better too.  I am glad that you can trust me.  Keep in touch
ok?"

He agreed and hopped in his car and took off.  I would never have predicted
this weekend would have gone like this in a million years.  I can't wait to
tell Troy!  I went back into the house to get ready for my boyfriend to
come home.  I ran into Brad and I could see that he was just as excited for
Rick to get home too.  We decided to put together a little welcome home
party for our guys!  I was also excited because Brad didn't know that Drew
would be coming back too!  It will be a great surprise to pick them up from
the airport!  Nice planning to have them all arrive around the same time!
