Subject: Beach Boys chapter 1

The alarm blared next to my ear, taking me reluctantly from my sleep back
into the world. Seven o'clock, the bus will be here in ten minutes. I
pushed my black fringe out of my eyes and rolled out of bed. Just as I
stand up Jackson bursts through the door. Jackson was my mom's newest
boyfriend, tall, burly, and full of drunken aggression he always seemed to
be willing to release on a fragile 13 year old gay boy. He walked over to
the table next to my bed, grabbed the alarm clock, and smashed it against
the ground.

"That fuckin' thing wakes me up again that's gonna be you on the floor" he
roared.

With that he shoved me back into bed, hitting my head against the wall in
the process, and with a snarl stormed off back into his bedroom. I close
the door and started crying, despite myself. I hated how he treated me, but
I couldn't do anything about it. Mom was a pill popper who did her best to
ignore my abuse and telling anyone else would just make things worse. I was
alone.

I guess I should do a little about me. I'm thirteen, if you forgot. I live
in Myrtle Beach and am basically the epitome of the beach boy. I've got
shaggy blonde surfer hair that's pretty long, blue eyes, and a nice tan. I
admit I'm pretty small... 5'5'' and only around 100 pounds, but I have a
good tone I think, probably from playing soccer and surfing a lot. I
usually chilled with either the kids from my team or my surf buds at the
beach. South Carolina isn't the hottest surf local, but whatever we still
tried. Oh, and my name's Alex. Ok anyway, back to the present.

I got dressed and pulled myself together, then shot out the door. Just as I
got out, the bus sped off, fuck! I looked around for my bike, but couldn't
find it. Jackson probably sold it or something, I wouldn't be surprised.
Just thinking about him made my stomach twist. I ran to my friend Eric's
house; he lived right down the street. He'd been really cool to me ever
since I moved here, even though he was 16 years old and by all rights
didn't have to give me the time of day. I got to his driveway just as he
was pulling out. Phew!

"Hey little dude, you miss the bus again?", he asked as he pulled up next
to me.

"Yeah", I smiled back, "Can you give me a ride?" The high school and middle
school were right next to each other, so I knew he'd say yes.

"Sure bro, hop in, we're going to be late if we don't hurry!"

When I got to school I had to run to my first class just to make the bell.
I'd probably have rushed to get there either way. Period one was ceramics
class, and in ceramics class was my very reason for coming to school in the
first place. His name was Jamie, he was my best friend in the entire world,
and he was absolutely GORGEOUS. He stood about my height, and had medium
length blondish skater hair, deep green eyes, and flawless tanned skin. He
played baseball and whenever I saw him at the beach I couldn't help but
stare at his perfectly toned body. He probably only weighed 10 or so more
pounds than me, but he looked like what I imagine all those Greek Gods must
have been like. And that smile.... God help me!

I sat down on the wheel next to him and started throwing today's
assignment, a flower vase. He had already opened his up and established a
base, so I had to catch up quickly. The ceramics room was cool; there was
always music playing and the teacher Mr. Cardi was basically a hippie in
teacher form. When Jamie sat back down we stared talking.

"Hey dude, I thought you weren't going to make it", he said in that
beautiful voice.

"Yeah, fuckin Jackson made me miss the bus again", I complained. Then I
noticed something. His braces, the single flaw in this otherwise perfect
boy, were missing.

"Dude! What happened to your braces?" I couldn't help but marvel at how
white his smile was when he laughed. He really did look like a boy-god.

"Ah man I forgot, I got them off yesterday, I was going to tell you but it
slipped", he said, turning to face me.

That was it. When I looked into those perfectly cut emeralds he called
eyes, took in his perfectly defined face, I became completely entranced.
Jamie had this magic to him. Aside from being the most attractive boy I've
ever seen, there was something else. Since I met him, I don't think I'd
ever once seen him be mean to someone. When I looked into his eyes there
was a power he had that just melted me. He was such a kind, positive
person. He seemed to practically radiate happiness, and I definitely wasn't
the only one to notice. We were getting older, and lately a lot of the
girls were starting to see how good looking he was. Everyone wanted to be
his friend. With a single look he could take away all my troubles, all my
thoughts, even my very breathe. It was like a spell, paralyzing me.
Whenever I met those deep, passionate green eyes, felt the glow of that
soft blondish hair or took in his Adonis face I could feel myself being
blown away.

I quickly turned away however and pretended I had messed something up with
my project. I couldn't let him see that I was secretly getting a boner just
at the sight of him! He was the greatest friend I'd ever had, and I wasn't
about to mess this up. For almost five years now there hasn't been a
weekend yet we haven't had a sleepover, and you'd be hard pressed to find a
week where we hadn't hung out at least five times. I continued making small
talk with him until my boner went away and I got myself back under control
again.

"I dunno what you're talking about bro, your piece is radd.", he was
telling me. Admittedly I was really good at ceramics. I guess that's a
talent.

"Meh, I just had to fix something, that's all.", I responded. I couldn't
help but smile.

I was sitting next to the boy I practically worshipped, my best friend
ever, in my favorite class, on a Friday. Life wasn't so bad, at least not
when Jamie was around. Not when Jamie was around.
