Blind Courage
By: Drew & Tazz

Introduction

Hello, I'll start this story off by introducing myself. My name is Drew and
I am 40 years old. I am 6 Foot tall and weigh 180 lbs. I have piercing
green eyes, and dark black hair, And I currently work for a local Middle
School as a counselor.

My two biggest challenges in life have been that I'm totally blind and if
that isn't hard enough to deal with, I'm also gay. Well, all this should
have told you that my life has been one challenge after another. As a
blind adult, I'm one that meets challenges head on, but this story is about
my youth and the challenges I faced growing up blind and gay.

I grew up in a very small town during the sixties and seventies and at a
very young age was told because of cancer I would be totally blind by the
time I turned sixteen. Well as you guessed it, my life was over, I would
never be normal, is what kept going through my mind. I would never be able
to drive, I'll half to depend on everyone, but no one would want to hang
around with a blind kid.

My mom was one of those over protected parents and was always afraid I
would get hurt, so I led a very sheltered life. My dad was never in the
picture because he was killed in a car wreck when I was nine months old. I
have one brother that really never had anything to do with me because of my
eye sight problems, and I didn't have any sisters. But this story is how I
found myself, and someone to love me for who I am, and not for what I could
or couldn't do. So during this story laugh with me, cry with me, cheer me
on, but please don't pity me. Now enough of the intro, on with the story
in chapter one.
