Highland Flings 9

Time slowed to a crawl. I was aware of several things at once.

Connor's clenched fist flying through the air towards my jaw, Cameron and
Jake springing up to try and help and, finally, the group of kids round
about were part egging us on, part screaming, with a few right-minded
people running to get help.

I had half a second to react, but the course of action was obvious, despite
never having had any kind of formal training at all.

I sidestepped his clumsy punch and brought the heel of my hand, hard, right
up against his solar plexus, briefly feeling how firm his pecs were before
he went down to his knees, gasping for breath.

"That was stupid, wasn't it?" I shouted. "Now, are you going to talk to me
like a man, or are you going to try and fight me like the dick you are?"

Connor didn't answer, unless you can count gasping like a fish a response.

The concerned buzz of activity died down to practically nothing with the
sudden appearance of Mrs McCormac, my teacher for two years.

I smirked slightly. Thankfully, she would listen to me and knew that I
would never willingly cause trouble, so I turned around confidently and
waited for her to come over.

"What on earth is going on here?" she bellowed, her voice betraying her
small frame.

Connor exaggeratedly pushed himself up onto his feet and started crying.

"Please, Miss!" he hiccuped. "He...He punched me for no reason at all!"

Mrs McCormac turned to me.

"Is this true, Grant?" she said, without her voice raising at all, which,
for a moment, made me shudder slightly.

I shot a loaded look at Connor, then turned back to her.

"It's not true at all!" I spat.

"This little homophobic ball of bile decided to throw Jake off his back
after he tried to celebrate a goal with him, hurting him pretty
unneccesarily.

He then spat at him whilst calling him extremely offensive homophobic
slurs.

When I challenged them on this, he tried to punch me, so I reacted to save
myself and hit his solar plexus, right here"

I demonstrated on myself;

"In order to stop him without seriously hurting him" I finally finished.

Mrs McCormac was listening intently to what I had to say, her face becoming
more and more contorted in rage the more I went on.

When I finished, she turned to Cameron and Jake, who were listening
intently. Without being prompted, they both chorused;

"It's true, Miss!"

Upon hearing this, she rounded on Connor, but instead of shouting, she put
on her most clipped and forced smile cum sneer, leant over to his ear and
whispered;

"Connor. You will come with me, now."

Connor's face changed instantly from a cocky smirk to a look of sheer
hatred.

She placed a hand on his shoulder and spirited him away, pausing for a
moment only to retrieve his t-shirt.

"I trust that I'll be able to count on you three fine fellows as witnesses
later on for Mr Curtis?" she said before leaving.

We looked at each other. "Yes Miss!" we chorused.

She allowed herself a small smile. "Good." she said. "Come to the staff
room in an hour and we'll talk then"

"Yes Miss!" we chorused again.

Her face hardened. "Come along, you." she spat, placing her hand firmly on
Connor's shoulder, not hard enough to hurt him, but just hard enough to let
him know he had nowhere to go.

The moment the pair left and the door shut behind them, the deathly silence
erupted into a cacophony of cheering, clapping and whooping.

Both Jake and Cameron jumped onto me at the same time, bashing into each
other in a rush to hug me.

I managed to overbalance and managed to fall heavily on my bum, smothered
by the two sweaty bodies on top of me, and squeezed by the two sets of arms
attempting to turn me into a diamond.

I heard laughter and joking cries of "Get a room!" emanate from all around
the pitch.

I briefly registered two semi-hard things poking into my sides before they
finally let me go.

"Thank you!" Jake gasped. "It's great to finally see that bastard get his
just desserts!"

I shrugged. "It was nothing. I stick up for people who get bullied. I want
to return the favour to the world that Cameron..."

I pulled him to my side;

"...gave to me"

Cameron blushed. I just kissed him lightly on the forehead, not caring who
saw.

Jake's jaw dropped.

"Are you two...?" he gasped.

"Yep" Cameron cut in. "We are."

I looked over and smiled at him. He smiled back.

"Well, we'd better get out of here" I said, hauling myself up. "Do you want
to come back to our cabin, Jake?"

"Are you sure?" he questioned, reaching for his t-shirt.

"Of course!" Cameron said.

Jake just laughed.

"Alright then!" he giggled, while raising his hand. "Lead the way!"

Cameron and I walked out of the indoor pitch to cheers and claps from
everyone. Cameron just looked embarrassed while Jake was beaming ear to
ear.

"You know," Cameron piped up, "We are never going to live this down. At
all!"

"So what?" I said.

"We just did what any good person would, stand up for the little guy".

"Hey!" Jake piped up. "I'm not that little!"

I jokingly ruffled his hair. He smiled up at me with the cutest smile I'd
seen for a long time.

All to suddenly, we got to our cabin.

"Well, this is our humble abode!" I theatrically announced as I threw the
door open.

Cameron's stuff was still everywhere and we hadn't made up the bed we had
screwed in, so it looked that a bomb had hit it.

"Jesus, this looks like a bomb's hit it!" he voiced, mirroring my thoughts.

"Well," Cameron said, "This is our shag pad, and we love it!"

Jake just snorted.

"It certainly smells like a shag pad!" he laughed.

He was right. There was an extremely heavy smell of sex in the air, you
could practically taste it!

Cameron and I busted up completely.

"I think we'd better leave a window open when we leave, to vent the smell"
I giggled.

"Good idea" Cameron conceded, unhooking the sash windows around the cabin,
while switching off the space heater.

"Besides," he said, "We won't need any other heat tonight, will we?"

My eyebrows shot to the ceiling. Jake's did too.

"Are you suggesting..." I stuttered.

"Yep, I am!" he beamed.

"But...But...But" Jake stuttered, "What about the night patrol?"

"The night patrol are numpties. They'll come around about 10 and we pretend
to be going to sleep, then we push the beds together, you come round and we
have fun!" Cameron scoffed.

Jake's eyes widened even more.

"Really?" he gasped "You want me to join in with you're fun?"

Cameron looked at me. "Of course we do, right Grant?"

"I'd love it!" I beamed.

Jake started grinning ear-to-ear.

"I love you guys!" he shouted, ramming into me and Cameron for the second
time in as many hours (not that I'm complaining!).

We somehow managed to stay upright while we hugged it out for the longest
time.

The only movement you could see was our hands rubbing each others backs
tenderly.

I suddenly became aware of the time and tapped Cameron and Jake's backs
slightly more forcefully.

"Come on," I whispered "We'd better go and give Connor his spanking."

Cameron and Jake snorted in amusement and let me go.

"Come on then!" Cameron waved enthusiastically at the door. "Let's go whoop
his ass!"

Jake and I just dropped him a look, but his face meant we cracked up pretty
quickly!

We locked up, leaving the windows half-open to vent and walked down to the
staff room, our jovial air snuffed by the thought of what had happened the
hour before, and who we were going to face very soon.

"Hey!" I urged, slapping their backs "We can't let him see that he's
getting to us! Don't act scared or insulted, just look at him like he's
something nasty you've scraped off you're shoe!"

They gave me a quizzical look.

"Trust me." I whispered.

We made it to the door of the staff room. We put on our best neutral looks
and I knocked on the door politely.

"Come in!" a disembodied voice called from within.

I opened the door and the three of us stepped in.

I panned my eyes across the room quickly. The staff room had a load of
slightly worn armchairs and sofas arranged around a large coffee table,
along with sideboards, cupboards, a large fridge, oven and a microwave. The
walls were plastered with a scrapbook of timetables, photos and fliers.

Sitting on the biggest sofa was Mrs McCormac and Mr Curtis, and perched on
the edge of one of the armchairs was Connor, who's face, when he looked up,
turned into a picture of fear.

I wished to smirk, but stowed it quickly and replaced it with a look of
disgust, locking eyes with him and staring him down, letting him know there
was no love lost.

"Ah, you three." Mrs McCormac said warmly "Please sit!"

We promptly installed ourselves on the other sofa, sitting as close as
possible to each other.

She seemed to be taking the lead in this situation, and Mr Curtis didn't
seem to mind.

"Now, this is slightly awkward" she said, her face showing it. "But I have
to ask, because I have heard from some other people. Are you two"; she
pointed at Cameron and I; "boyfriends?"

We looked at each other. We had one of those instantaneous telepathic
conversations you can have with someone you know and agreed to tell her.

I took his hand in mine and squeezed.

"Yes" we both said together.

Connors eyes widened, so did Mr Curtis'es, but Mrs McCormac remained
surprisingly neutral about the whole thing.

"Ok then" she smiled. "I was just curious."

Her face hardened again.

"Now" she said, "Back to business", changing the subject with a tactfulness
that was completely becoming of a teacher of her stature. "In the interests
of fair play, I require you three to give your account of what happened,
you will need to hear Connors side too, and then Mr Curtis and I will take
a decision on what is to happen."

So that is what happened. We gave our account of what happened, and Connor
maintained that I had punched him for no reason.

It took Mrs McCormac and Mr Curtis all of 10 seconds to make a decision.

"The thing is Connor," she began "I have three boys in front of me, all of
whom say that you unneccesarily hurt Jake and attempted to hit Grant when
he challenged you. And..." she raised her finger "I spoke to several other
people who witnessed the event, and their story supports them. So I believe
you are lying, and from speaking to your class teacher, you have a history
of it."

Connors face lost it's cocky smile. He obviously thought that he could
hoodwink everyone.

"So..." she said, with a degree of levity unbecoming of the situation
"...I'll leave the announcement of our decision to Mr Curtis. Sir?"

This was the first time anyone had acknowledged Mr Curtis, who, up until
now, had just sat there with a passive look on his face. He moved his hand
from his face.

"Well..." he said quietly. "...The rules of the camp are very clear. Any
person who intentionally causes any kind of violence towards another
Campground member shall be immediately expelled from the campground and
excluded for a period of 10 years."

Connor kept staring at his shoes.

"Well, boys..." Mrs McCormac turned to the three of us. "You've heard what
is going to happen to Connor, but I would ask that you try and be discreet
about it. Mr Curtis will make an announcement tomorrow."

"Yes Miss." We chorused, trying to hide the joy in our voices.

She turned to Connor. "Now..." she sniped. "I want you to shake hands with
Jake and Grant and apologise for what you did."

His response surprised me, and from the looks he got from the adults, it
surprised them too.

"Fuck right off Miss! I ain't touching those faggots, I might catch
something from those cock-sucker hands!" he shouted forcefully.

"Like father, like son" I thought. History looked like it was going to
repeat itself.

Surprisingly, nobody reacted. Connor looked confused.

"Did you not hear what I said?" he shouted again.

"Oh, we did." Jake piped up. Everyone turned to him. "We just feel
incredibly sad that your ignorance seems to be completely impenetrable."

Mr Curtis and Mrs McCormac barely managed to contain their
laughter. Cameron and I however, had no such restraint and nearly fell off
the sofa in gales of laughter. It remains, to this day, one of the most
efficient and surprising burns I have ever had the pleasure of
witnessing. Connors look of loathing grew even more pronounced.

I took a deep breath and turned to Connor. "Well... If you don't want to
touch us, I guess it's because you're scared that nothing will happen, and
then your entire system will be proved wrong"

Mrs McCormac, Cameron and Jake looked at me with admiration. Connor on the
other hand, had had enough.

"Fuck you!" he shouted, jumping off his chair, arms flailing. It seems like
he has an extremely short fuse.

Thankfully, he also seemed to have an extremely short field of view as
well, because as his arms were flailing towards me, he failed to notice
that his shins were about to come into close contact with the coffee table.

It was extremely satisfying to watch the rage drain out of his face to be
replaced with severe pain.

I felt I needed to take advantage of the comedic moment, as usual.

"Well..." I said. "...At least I didn't have to hit him this time!"

Jake and Cameron lost it completely while the adults just smirked
quietly. Connor just stewed.

"Right boys!" Mrs McCormac finally said. "You may leave now, go to bed and
enjoy the rest of your time here."

"Yes Miss!" we chorused. "Thank you Miss!"

We smiled at both Mrs McCormac and Mr Curtis and ran out of the staff room
at full pelt, laughing our heads off.

"Well..." I said, when we were far enough away. "I guess that takes care of
that! Now what do you guys want to do?"

"Well..." Jake said in his most seductive voice, "I'm looking at two things
I want to do right now!"

I just snorted.

"You'll have to wait a bit, buddy boy! You still have to fool the night
patrol!" I said.

"Good point" he conceded.

We three way fist bumped and ran back to our cabins, after agreeing that
Jake would come round half-an-hour after lights out, just to make sure
no-one saw him, and his square room-mate had fallen asleep.

Needless to say, I was looking forward to it.
