In Time

It was Sunday night, the night before school began, 12 AM. Alex sat at his
desk pondering what he was going to do about Martin. Over the last week,
the two boys had hung out at Martin's pool, gone to the mall, swam
together, and played some video games, all of which had led to a growing
feeling of attraction in Alex. He desperately wanted to tell Martin how
much he liked him, how much he wanted him, and how in only a few days his
desires had started to consume him in a fiery passion that nearly drove him
to insanity. Yet, Alex knew that there was no way he could bring himself to
make such an admission to Martin; at least not yet.

He sighed and let his head drop to his desk.

"Damn it...how am I going to deal with him tomorrow in school?" Alex asked
himself, exhausted by the pressure of having to hold his tongue about his
true feelings. He had already found out that he had an almost identical
schedule to Martin, except that his sixth period class was a keyboarding,
while Martin was in some health care course. Beyond that they shared every
class, and every teacher.

Alex knew that he had to find some way to express his feelings, some way to
release the pressure. Thoughts of what he could do raced through his mind,
but most were completely impractical or too dangerous. The last thing that
he wanted was to make a fool of himself in front of Martin this early on in
their relationship. Suddenly, an idea popped into his head.

Poetry.

Alex had always had a knack at writing poems, but had never really revealed
this talent to anyone else. It seemed a bit corny, clich , and even a bit
girly in his opinion, but he knew that he had to do something and was the
only idea that came to mind. He went to his music library and hit the song
by Death Cab for Cutie, "I Will Possess Your Heart" (radio edit). Suddenly
inspired, Alex was about to start typing when a thought came to mind. If he
typed out his poem on this computer, Martin might see when he came over to
hang out. They had played games on Alex's computer in the past, and he
didn't want to take any chances now that they had become close friends.

But if I write it out...he can't trace it back to me...unless he recognizes
it's my handwriting....unless I do a good job at disguising it. WAIT! I'll
just use my left hand.

Though Martin didn't know it yet, Alex was ambidextrous. Well sort of, he
used his right hand almost all the time, but if he had to he could use his
left as well, but his handwriting looked slightly different. As a result,
it wouldn't be as easy for Martin to recognize Alex's left handed
writing. He pulled a piece of paper out of his printer, grabbed a pen and
began to think about what he wanted to say.

At first, he wrote down only a few unconnected, scratch ideas, but after
about twenty minutes he had managed to piece together a poem that was ready
to be copied out as a final draft. He read it over to himself and felt
proud.

The desires of Fire burn I can't fight this urge You seem distant, yet
close in every way Why is it you have flown away? Out of reach I see you,
yet it is you I desire and beseech For it's because of you I keep feeling
these burns Like a cat at the bowl of the fish You're something I see, yet
just beyond my reach But one day I'll break this glass And I'll have you at
last I wonder what he'll think about it Alex mused as he looked over it a
few more times. He glanced over at the clock 12:23 A.M Crap it's getting
way too late, and I need to have my rest for tomorrow, he thought. With
that, Alex grabbed the piece of paper and folded it neatly in half, and
then in half again. He then walked into his bathroom and quickly brushed
his teeth and looked himself over in the mirror.

Although he had grown quite a bit over the past year, his twelve year old
frame was still relatively thin, with only some muscle definition through
his stomach and in his arms. His shoulders were about the average width for
a kid his age, and his perfectly identical, dime sized nipples stood out on
his bare chest, which almost glowed in the mirror. Alex's skin tone wasn't
exactly pale, and he definitely had noticeable tan lines, but he sometimes
felt as though his fair complexion and features gave him a feminine
look. Moreover, his face had always looked odd in his opinion, with high
cheek bones that were set in a way that resembled those of some girls he
had seen in school. Yet his lips were fuller in definition and had a pink
hue, and his chin stuck out a bit, which gave his face a chiseled
look. Alex felt that it was a strange mix of masculine and feminine
features in a single body, and sometimes he felt uncomfortable looking at
himself in the mirror or comparing his body to other boys. Despite multiple
girls telling him how cute they thought he was, and having several who
admitted to having a crush on him, he always had doubted them and felt that
he just looked weird.

He gave out a sign and shifted his eyes down to the countertop.

I just hope to god Martin may be able to look past how weird I look to even
consider me...That's assuming he's even interested in the first place.

Alex left the bathroom and walked towards his bed. He stared at his ceiling
as the fan spun, blowing the cool air down to his face and thought about
what he would say to Martin if he could only utter a few words to sum up
everything he felt. He thought of complicated phrases, elaborate vocabulary
words, but finally came down to a single and very simple phrase that
properly wrapped up everything he felt for Martin.

Martin...I need you

"JACOB GET UP IT'S TIME FOR SCHOOL!" yelled Ms. Stewart from down the
stairs.

Jacob rubbed his eyes, made a few moaning sounds, and eventually managed to
roll himself out of bed. He dragged his feet, almost zombie like, as he
made his way to the closet to collect his things. He scanned over the
clothes and wondered what he wanted to wear.

Well it's the first day, and first impressions are important...maybe
something upper casual? He grabbed a grey button down, with a blue and
black design on the bottom part, some black skinny jeans, a pair of white
and black Nike Airs, and a blue watch. He walked up to the mirror and
looked himself over.

Yea this looks pretty good, and I think Corey would like it too...I think
school's going to be bearable now that he's around.

He grabbed his backpack from the floor and walked down the stairs to the
table where Alex already was eating his cereal. Jacob sat down to the table
as his mom brought him a bowl of cereal. He looked over to Alex, who he
could tell was exhausted. His eyes drooped down, were bloodshot, and he
looked a bit pale.

"Sleep well?" Jacob asked in a voice indicating he already knew the answer
to the question.

"No, I had a bad dream," Alex replied as he continued to stir his spoon in
his cereal "Ouch, sorry about that Alex. But look to the bright side, it's
the first day of school so there won't be any work or homework," Jacob said
as cheerfully as possible.

"Yea...I guess you're right." But school wasn't what Alex was worried
about; it was the note in his backpack that he had ready for delivery. He
was so afraid of what could happen, and he had dreamt of everything that
could possibly go wrong.

"Oh by the way, I'm going to be gone until Thursday, and your dad is coming
home tomorrow night. You two should know what to do until then. The credit
card is in the usual place, as well as all the contact numbers in case of
an emergency," she said as she placed her coat on top of her suitcase and
started grabbing the needed paper work.

"Where are you going this time Mom?"

"San Francisco, it's for an Australian firm that is expanding into
America. I'm meeting the owners there tomorrow." Jacob and Alex's eyes met
for a second as they both wondered the same thing.

"Umm...Mom, is the firm a car suspension company owned by some people with
the last name of Lee?" Jacob said a bit slowly, slightly in shock by the
coincidence. Mrs. Stewart looked over at her son, her eyebrow raised and
her face questioning.

"Actually yes....how did you know that?" Jacob and Alex immediately grinned
from ear to ear.

"Because Mom, remember those two boys we were hanging out with this
weekend? Those are their sons and they live right down the street from us,"
Jacob said laughing a bit. Mrs. Stewart rolled her eyes a bit as she placed
her hand on her forehead.

"So, I'm flying several hundred miles to meet my neighbors that live right
down the street. Tells you how efficient this business is huh?"
Mrs. Stewart said as she grabbed her stuff and started walking to the
garage.

"Well, it's fine. We have to meet with one of the regional managers in
order to get the contract approved for us to move the funds for them from
America to Australia and vice versa when it's needed. So even if they were
next door to us we would still both have to go to San Francisco.

Though if I had known this earlier I could have saved some gas money with
carpooling," Ms.

Stewart said as she continued to move the documents into the trunk of her
car. Though they had plenty of money she still treated her personal
finances like a bank, so she liked to save as long as it was reasonable.

"Ok well are you two ready to go?"

"Yes Mom," Alex and Jacob said in unison as they put their book bags in the
trunk of the BMW.

Jacob sat in the front passenger seat and Martin got in the back seat
behind Jacob. Ms. Stewart started the car, backed out, and with that they
were off.

It was only a ten minute to drive until they were at Alex's middle school,
which was a large building that was shaped like a giant triangle. Each of
the three sides housed an individual grade, with the base of it being
sixth, the right side seventh, and the left side eighth. The building had a
modern design with a lot of colored glass, metal, and bricks forming a
repeating pattern of triangles. The gym and library were separate
buildings, with the gym being to the right and the library being to the
left. Both repeated the triangle pattern with their brick and metal
designs. The cafeteria was located in the middle of the main school
triangle. The soccer field and other sports fields were located to the
right of the building.

"Ok well have a great first day of school Alex. I love you and I'll be back
on Thursday" Ms.

Stewart said as she leaned back to give Alex a light kiss on the forehead.

"Ok bye Mom. Bye Jacob. I'll see you after school today," Alex said as he
got out of the car. He grabbed his book bag from the trunk and walked
towards the front entrance.

After that it was only a three minute drive down the road to Jacob's high
school.

He wasn't sure what drug the designer was on when he made the plans for the
school, but it had to be something crazy. The school was a giant elliptical
oval that was three stories high. It was evenly divided from the center
into four parts, each one being an individual grade. The middle of the
school was a giant auditorium. Then off to the far left were the school's
track fields, football field, gym, tennis court, soccer field, and baseball
field all in a fairly large, expansive field. The cafeteria was directly to
the right of the building and was also an oval shape. The library was next
to cafeteria.

"Bye Jacob, have a great day at school," Mrs. Stewart said as she gave
Jacob a kiss on the forehead as well. Jacob recoiled a bit as she kissed
him.

"Mom...I'm 14, don't you think I'm getting a bit old for that?" Jacob
said. Mrs. Stewart let out a light chuckle at the notion.

"You're right. Sorry honey. Anyways, enjoy school."

Jacob got out of the car and grabbed his book bag from the trunk and began
to walk to the front of the building. He had visited the school on Friday
to get his schedule, but he hadn't had a chance to see Corey's yet since
the guidance office was still working on his transcript. As a result he was
anxiously waiting to find Corey and figure out his schedule.

This is either going to be absolutely amazing...or pure hell...I just hope
things get better this year.

Martin stood next to his locker looking down the halls of the school. He
was waiting for Alex to arrive, since Alex's locker was right next to
his. Just as he was about to grab his phone and text Alex he saw him
walking down the hall towards him. He was talking to another boy, who
looked to be about the same age but was slightly taller, with brown hair
and eyes. Martin also noticed that the boy seemed a lot tanner than Alex
and was wearing a white button down, acid washed jeans, and some grey
running shoes. Alex on the other hand had on a blue graphic t-shirt, some
checkered Converse sneakers, and dark blue jeans. Martin swore to himself
that Alex was wearing this just to tease him. How did he know that blue is
my favorite color? "Hey Alex," Martin said as he walked up to the two.

"Hey Martin," Alex said giving a smile and high five.

"This is my friend, Caleb Olson. Caleb, this is Martin Lee. He just moved
here this summer from Australia," Alex said as the two said hello and shook
hands.

"Well Alex I got to get to class, I'll see you later bro, and it was nice
meeting you Martin. I look forward to getting to know you dude," Caleb
said as he gave Alex a high five and walked off to his class.

"So... ya look a bit zombified. Are you feeling ok?" Martin asked as he
gave Alex a bit of a concerned look.

"Yea, I'm fine. Just had a bit of trouble sleeping last night," Alex said
as he grabbed a drink from the water fountain.

"So how long have you known that boy?"

"Who, Caleb?"

"Yea."

"Since fifth grade. Why do you ask?"

"No reason. I just wanted to know how close of a friend he is," Martin
replied.

"Well, you'll get to be close friends with him as well. He's really cool
and I think you'll enjoy hanging out with him. But hey we should head to
class" Alex said as he began to turn in the direction of their first period
class.

"Sounds good to me, LETS GO CONQUER THAT MATH CLASS!" Martin said in a fake
war yell as the two walked down the hall. Alex let out a giggle and placed
his hand on Martin's mouth to indicate he was being way too loud. Martin
slid his eyes so he made eye contact with Alex.

This boy really is amazing.

Jacob walked around the halls, desperately trying to find Corey. He looked
down to his cell phone, but no text messages had arrived, even though he
had already sent one to Corey trying to find him. He turned his head,
looking for any sign of his new friend. He had just passed the boy's
restroom when his phone beeped indicating he had received a text. He looked
down and the only thing it said was Behind you Jacob flew around and there
stood Corey right in front of him. He was wearing a red, striped button
down, dark blue jeans, a red watch, and black Nike Airs. On his neck he
wore a silver chain and a pendent. It was a large piece of opal that was
had splashes of every color imaginable.

It was mostly blue and green but Jacob could see yellow and red as well as
other colors.

"Hey Alex, I'm glad I found ya," Corey said as he walked up and gave him
high five.

"Hey Corey...Where did you get that? It's really cool looking," Jacob said
pointing to the opal pendent.

"Oh well this was a gift from my grandmother for my 10th birthday. She had
gotten it in Australia for me, seeing that we are the largest exporter of
opal. She said it was supposed to be a representation of life, since life
is so colorful and different in so many ways. I guess it's her way of
saying that life is just another adventure," Corey said with a smile. Jacob
loved how Corey had described the pendant. It really did sound like life,
at least in his opinion.

"That's awesome Corey, she sounds pretty cool," Jacob replied.

"Yea she is" Corey said as he looked out the window and began to remember
home.

"So can I see your schedule?" Jacob asked as he pulled his own out of his
pocket so he could compare.

"Oh sure," Corey responded with a bright smile as he handed Jacob the
folded piece of paper.

Jacob opened the paper and expected to see numbers and letters indicating
the schedule, but instead he saw something completely unexpected. It was a
sketch.

The picture had been drawn with a pencil and was incomplete. Jacob looked
at it for a second and realized that the person it depicted was him. His
eyes widened and his heart fluttered as he realized that Corey had been
thinking about him, and even went to the extent of drawing a sketch of
him. The picture showed Jacob looking down; his hand on his forehead and
his other hand to his side, and it looked like he was leaning back against
someone. He was shirtless and it was only complete from the waist up. He
saw another hand around his stomach area and could see it going back to
another person, but the other person wasn't complete yet. The sketch
appeared to show part of the other person's head right next to his ear and
under Jacob's arm, which was raised to his own forehead.

Corey gave him a lopsided smile wondering why he looked so shocked.

"What, did my schedule reveal some secret code?" Corey asked with a bit of
giggling.

"I didn't know you were such an amazing sketch artist!" Jacob exclaimed as
he continued to scan the picture. Immediately, Corey's eyes grew huge as he
reached out and snatched the paper from Jacob's hand.

FUCK! I forgot that was in there, shit...I just need to change the subject
quickly, Corey thought as he scrambled to grab his schedule out of his
pocket. He practically shoved it into Jacob's hand as he stuttered while
trying to speak.

"So...Uhh...Do you have the same schedule as me?" The nervousness in
Corey's voice was blatantly obvious. Jacob looked at him and thought that
the reaction was odd, and was about to ask, but decided that it would just
make Corey more nervous if he made him explain himself.

"Well we both have first period and third period together, but that's
it. Second and fourth we have the same classes but flipped" Jacob said as
he handed Corey back his schedule, somewhat disappointed.

"Damn...I was hoping we could have all the same classes. Oh well...at least
we have two of them together." Corey paused, wondering whether he had been
successful in changing the subject. "Why don't we head to our first class?
What do ya say?" Corey said quickly, the composure returning to his voice
as he recovered from the shock of almost exposing himself to Jacob.

"Sure let's head off" Jacob said as they walked down the third floor
hall. As they made their way to the class, his mind was filled with
questions about the sketch.

I wonder if the other person in the picture was Corey...

It was the last period of the day and Alex sat staring at the screen in
keyboarding class. The teacher was only going over basic classroom
instructions. He looked over at the clock and noticed that it was 3:00,
which meant he had 30 minutes left until school let out. He opened the
front compartment of his book bag and slipped the note into his front right
pocket. He raised his hand just as the teacher was about to start another
lecture on what they would be learning in this class.

"Yes, do you have a question?"

"May I go to the restroom please?"

"Yes you may, and good work on using proper grammar" the teacher said. It
really wasn't that Alex was trying to impress her; he just had always said
it that way.

He slipped out the classroom and walked down the hall, past the
restroom. He moved as quickly as he could, since Martin's locker was on the
other end of the hall, and the restroom was only a few feet away from the
keyboarding class. He finally reached his destination and found Martin's
locker. He quickly folded up the note and looked at it one last time.

God please...please let this work, Alex thought as he placed the paper in
the slit of the locker. It slid in and he heard it hit against Martin's
books. He turned around and began to walk back to class when he suddenly
saw Martin walk out of a door directly in front of him. Martin turned in
his direction and nearly collided into him.

"Whoa...watch yourself there Alex. I almost ran into you," Martin said
cheerfully.

"Sorry about that, I was heading back to class."

"Its fine...Wait isn't your class on the other end of the hall? What are ya
doing all the way down here?" Martin asked, raising his eyebrow. Alex
looked away, trying to conjure up a lie.

"Well...honestly I had asked to go the restroom, but class was getting
really boring so I decided to walk around just a bit," Alex replied. His
response had been easier than he thought, since it wasn't entirely a lie,
just sprinkle of lies.

"Skipping class eh?" Martin said as he crossed his arms and turned his head
side to side.

"You're being a naughty boy, Alex, and you'll have to be punished for
that," Martin said, again narrowing his eyes in a nearly seductive look,
with a mischievous grin.

"Ok but be gentle when you do it" Alex said in a pseudo-pleading voice as
he squeezed his lips and opened his eyes wide to produce a fake puppy dog
look.

My god, if we weren't in school right now, I would jump on him right now. I
think that may have been the sexiest thing I've ever heard, Martin thought
as he imagined throwing himself on Alex and doing him right there in the
hallway.

They both laughed and had a few minutes of small talk. Alex gave Martin one
last high five and ran off to his class.

That was way too close...but totally worth it, he thought. I hope you enjoy
the poem, Martin.

The bell rung, indicating that school was over. Martin picked up his book
bag and walked to his locker. He put the combination into his lock and
opened it up. He was about to drop in his books when he noticed a piece of
folded paper on top of the book that was on top of the pile. Martin picked
up the piece of paper and unfolded it. He scanned his eyes across the paper
and read.

With each word, his hormones flared and his heart rate increased. He felt
his dick stiffen and he shifted nervously from side to side. It was a well
written poem, confessing that its author was madly in love with him. Just
then Alex approached from behind.

"Hey Martin, what's up?" Alex asked sheepishly as he stood next to Martin.

"Hey Alex, not much, but this is a bit odd" Martin said pointing to the
piece of paper.

"What is it?"

"It's someone telling me they want me to date them...I think."

"Wow...can I read it?" Alex said as he tried his best to keep himself from
smiling, since he knew he had written it just for Martin. He pretended to
scan over reading it and nodded his head after he was done.

"Yup...I think they like you. Lucky you" Alex said nonchalantly as he
patted Martin on the back.

"Yea," Martin paused. "But there's just one thing that's kind of weird
about it all," he continued in a confused voice.

"What?" Alex said, now a bit pensive since he had no clue what seemed weird
about it.

"Well...I've only been here one day...and I don't know anyone else here but
you...so I mean who wrote it because I don't know anyone?" Martin asked,
again looking over the note. Alex felt his heart stop and his mind rush
forward. Adrenaline filled his veins and he tensed up as he realized that
he had failed to think through his plan completely.

FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!! I FORGOT HE DOSENT KNOW ANYONE ELSE BUT ME....SHIT HE'S
GOING TO FIGURE OUT I WROTE IT....LIE LIE LIE !!!!!! Alex screamed in his
mind as he tried to come up with something.

"Well...I mean...maybe some girl just saw you this morning and thought you
were cute so they wrote you a letter and put it in your locker," Alex
offered with a nervous grin. He had stuttered a few times and hoped that
Martin didn't pick up on it. Martin turned towards Alex and locked eyes
with him for about ten seconds. Alex looked away nervously, but Martin
could tell he was guilty.

HA...caught ya! Martin thought as he gave a light smile.

"Yea...I guess you're right...but hey I don't want to miss the bus, so I
suggest we get outta here," Martin said as he grabbed Alex by the shoulder
and walked with him to the bus lane.

"Cool. Are we still hanging out this afternoon Martin? I'm looking forward
to it."

"Damn right we are, mate. I'm looking forward to it too" Martin said as he
let go of Alex's shoulder and walked right next to him to the bus.

I'm really looking forward to this afternoon Alex...cause I have you now,
Martin thought as he looked down and smiled, knowing that he now had this
cute boy for himself.

Authors note: So Martin is catching onto Alex, and Jacob is getting
suspicious of Corey. I wonder where this one is heading. Well it's going to
get very interesting for all four boys as they discover who killed
who....wait...that was clue my bad...I mean who likes who. Anyway so I hope
