Chapter 1


 In the beginning of 1985 a bunch of preteen boys started their summer
holidays, and it was going to be a hot one, weather that is, James was new
to the town and just arrived one week before the school break began so it

Now that James had finished unpacking he brought the empty boxes down and a
half full box of damaged toys left by the kids that lived here.  "Gee,
these kids must have been right dangerous, looking at the way they screwed
up all these toys." He said to himself.  James had just turned eleven and
had his birthday party a week and a half ago with all his friends that he
would not see anymore as he had moved from Jacksonville Florida to Monroe
city Az.

"From one hot hell hole to another, why couldn't we go live in a cooler

So he groaned saying he had nothing to do as it was too hot to ride his
bike.  "Right you two when you have finished eating lunch we are going to

to the pool I have put your name and your brother's name down for the local
swim team and you can thank your dad for that as his company is supporting
the team and he want you two to go to the try outs and see if you can make
the team." His mum told the boys.

"Ah, gee mum. Why did he do that for?" James groaned. "Well his boss has
his son's and they are about your age and he thought that you and your
brother could make some new friend's there." mum replied.

So the boys grabbed their swimmers and towels and headed to the car and
thank god for air con as the garage was cooled so that the minivan was not
too hot to sit in.  A ten minute drive and the boys arrived at the pool,
the heat quickly hit them when they got out of the van and the boys ran
into the cool building waiting for their mum to park the van in the
underground parking.

"Ok, boys, wait here and I will see the swim coach." Mum said.  5 minutes
later a 20 year old man walked out of his office with his mum by his
side. "Hi, boys, your mum has told me that you are here to try out for the
swim team, so we need to get you some proper swim wear." The coach
said. Their mum had given the coach the boys brief's size's and came back
with 2 pair of white Speedo's with the pool's logo on it. "Go to the locker

James and Zane looked at the Speedo's as they walked into the male change
rooms and found an empty locker and began to undress.  While they

time." coach smiled.  "So are they in the swim team then." James's mum
asked.  "Heck, yes, as long as they want to be here and be part of the
team, they are welcome to join us and be part of the team." coach, Tyler
said.

"You boys can have a free swim and I will pick you up in an hour" mum told
the boys. "Oh, well we have been invited to Randy's house as he and his
brothers have asked us to join them after the swim test." James said.

So James's mum went up to ask where Randy's parents were and to find out
where Randy lived.

"Hi, are you Randy's mother, My name is Mavis Houston and your son and my
son are on the same swim team and he has asked my boys to your home and
just wanted to introduce myself." Mavis said.

"Oh, lordly, me, Mavis, I'm Jane Hallowell, your husband works with my
husband at the bank." Jane smiled back.  "How that is for bumping into you
and now our boys have met up with yours and we have just been here for a
week. Mavis giggled.

"If you like you can follow me back home and you can drop your boys off and
come back later on to get them again, if you like. Jane said.  Now that the

don't get into trouble." Mavis told the boys as she said good bye for now
and would pick them up in a few hours.

Randy asked.  A few minutes later Miss Jane came out with drinks and
cookies for the boys and then left them alone to get acquainted with each
other by the pool.  "So you must be new here in Monroe city." Rusty asked.
"Yep, we arrived a week ago from Jacksonville FL, as our dad was sent here
to be the manager of your dad's bank." Zane replied. "Well you have just

Now that the boys finished their drinks and ate all the cookies, the boys
jumped into the pool and swam about a bit before someone asked about the

"Hope you boys were well behaved and had some fun with your new friends."
James mum asked. And as she asked the boys this, Miss Jane returned from
her errand as the house maid was there just in case there was a problem
with the boys.

"Hi, Mavis, sorry about that I had to run an errand for my husband, Sally
our maid was here so the boys were in good hands." Miss Jane laughed.
"Thank you for having our boys over and for the swim in your pool." Mavis
replied.  "Your boys are welcome to stay here any time and next week will
be the swim team B.B.Q day so please come over." Miss Jane asked.  Now that
the boys got to meet dad's boss's sons the boys became instant friends and
would become closer as boys could.

Back at home James took hold of Zane and took him to his room.  "So what
