Subject: lonely         chapter 4

CHAPTER 4


        BANG! The metal pipe sounded as it slammed off of

 Joshua's now red lower back. "I told you to be home on time you little
bastard!" Josh's drunken foster dad yelled at him. "I'm sorry I..." BANG!
With the pipe again across his mid back. "O god please stop! I'm sorry!"
Josh cried out in agony as his foster father beat him. BANG! BANG! BANG! 3
more shots with the pipe to Joshua's lower back and legs the pipe
landed. "Now get to your fucking room!" the drunken foster dad yelled to
Josh. Slowly and very painfully Josh crawled to his room. As he tried to
raise him self to get into his bed he felt his whole back feel as if it
were on fire. "God what did I ever do to deserve this?" Josh cried
quietly. "Dad if you are up there and you can hear me, please help me!
Please!" it took what seemed like all night but Joshua finally fell
asleep. KABOOM! Josh's bedroom door sounded as his foster dad kicked it
in. "Damn it! I said go to sleep! Little bastard I'll teach you!" he yelled
at josh as he beat the defenseless boy in a drunken rage. After nearly 10
minutes of constant pounding josh lay in the floor unconsciouse from the
savage beating he had just taken. Bleeding from his nose, mouth, and a cut

            Chris and Zach were sleeping comfortably when all of a sudden
Zach sat up in bed screaming. "OH GOD! OWWW!" hearing him Chris woke up
scared half to death. "What is it? Zach what's wrong?" he asked in
concern. "Dude my back is on fucking fire!" Zach told him "Well
there' nothing there, no marks or stings or anything." Chris told him
not seeing anything. Then just as Josh was experiencing it Zach felt it,
"OW GOD MY NOSE!" he said as he grabbed his nose and jumped out of bed.
Still naked Zach ran to the bathroom holding his nose in pain. Fearing
something was really wrong Chris grabbed his underwear and slid them on
and joined Zach in the bathroom. "Dude you ok?" Chris asked now getting
worried. " Chris  I really got this bad feeling in the back of my mind
and my gut that there's something wrong with Josh .  OW FUCK!" he cried
out grabbing his eye. " Zachary ! Open this door now!" his mom said as
she knocked on Zach's bed room door since the had blocked it with Zach
's dresser. Chris went and slid the dresser aside allowing his mom in.
"I don't know what's wrong with him!" Chris said starting to cry. She
walked into the bathroom and found her son kneeling naked next to the
bath tub. "Oh my god! Zachary what is it?" she asked in horror. "Mom
call the police! Send them to Joshua 's foster dads PLEASE!" he begged.
"Why? What is it?" she asked him. "Mom please just do it! I got a
really bad feeling that Joshua is hurt. I don't know why I just do." He
explained to her. "Ok, ok honey let Chris help you get dressed and I
will call them." She told him. She left to call the police as Chris
helped the still naked Zach to his feet. "Dude you ok now?" Chris

            As the car pulled up in front of the run down unkept house
Zach jumped from the car and ran to the front door. He knocked on the
door relentlessly till a drunken man reeking of alcohol answered the
door. "What the fuck do you want? Its 10 at fucking night." The man
asked. "Can I please speak to Joshua ?" Zach asked. "Wait a minute,
how the fuck did you get out of that room you little bastard? Come
here!" the man said as he grabbed for Zach .  Seeing this Zach 's mom
jumped out of the car and yelled to the man, "Release my son now or I'm
calling the police!"  "Mind your own fucking business lady!" the
drunken man yelled at her while dragging Zach into the house thinking he
was Jsoh and slamming the door. Chris flew to the door as Zach 's mom
was calling the police. BANG BANG BANG! Chris pounded on the door "Hey
open the door now! Let Zach go damn you!" he yelled at the locked door.
As the man dragged Zach through the discusting house he told him, "I'll
teach you to sneak out you little bastard!" he then opened the door to
Joshua 's room and threw Zach to the floor. Once he was laying there the
drunk thought he was truly seeing double. He was now looking at 2 nearly
identical boys laying in the floor. Once Zach got his senses back he
noticed Joshua laying in the floor in a small pool of his own blood. "OH
MY GOD JOSH!" he said in fear. "MOM! MOM! HELP! MOM!" Zach cried to

out. Hearing that his mother told the 911 dispatcher and within a matter
of seconds the police pulled up in force. "What seems to be the problem
here?" the officer asked. " ZACH IS BEING KILLED HELP HIM!" Chris
yelled at them now crying in fear and concern. The officer banged on the
door many times yelling "POLICE OPEN UP!" as they heard Zach inside
yelling his lungs out for help. With out anymore hesitation the police
called it probable cause and broke in the front door with their guns
drawn. "POLICE FREEZE! Put the pipe down now!" the ordered the drunk
man staring at the look alike boys. He then turned to the police and saw
the guns pointed his way and dropped the pipe. They then took him into
custody and walked into the room and noticed Zach and Josh laying in the
floor. "We need an ambulance here now." One of the officers called into
his walky talky. One of the officers helped the bawling Zach up and out
of the room to find his mom and Chris outside. "OH ZACHARY!" his mom
cried as she enveloped him in a hug. Chris then joined them, " Zach you
scared the shit out of me." He said. " Christopher ! Language please."
Zach 's mom said over Chris cussing. Still crying Zach told them, "I
think he killed Joshua ! He is in his room and he's bleeding, and..." he
trailed off as he cried in concern for his friend's life. Just then the
paramedics pulled up and rushed inside. One of the officers told them,
"He's in the back bed room hurry he's still alive but hurt bad."  A
few minutes later the medics came out with Joshua strapped to a back
board and walked past Zach, his mom, and Chris. "Oh my god dude! He
looks bad." Chris said. They loaded Josh 's battered body into the
ambulance and then off to the hospital. One of the officers walked up to
Zach and his mom as another officer loaded the handcuffed drunk into a
police car. "Mam, just how exactly did all of this come about? I need to
get a statement from each of you so we know what happened here." The
police separated the three of them so that they could give their
statements. Zach was the last to finish his statement as he was led back
to his mother by an officer. "Son that is one of the wildest stories I
have ever heard, but you can look at it like this. You just saved that
boys life tonight. It doesn't matter how anything happened that is the
true fact here." The officer told him. Once the police were done with
them the three of them left for the hospital to see if Joshua was going
to be ok.

            Once at the hospital some things Zach wasn't counting on
happened. As they walked to the information counter they asked where Josh
was. "Mam can you tell me where Joshua Taylor is? He was brought in a
little while ago." Zach asked the receptionist. "That patient is
currently in the emergency room receiving treatment." She replied.
"Well can you please tell us if he is gonna be ok?" Chris begged.
"I'm sorry but I can only release that information to family. You will
just have to wait to talk to his doctor to find that out." She told
them. Feeling rejected the three of the sat and sat until Chris and Zach
eventually fell asleep leaning against each other. Eventually around 3 am
the doctor came out of the ER. "Please doctor, are you the one treating
Joshua Taylor ?" she asked quietly. "Yes ma'am I am. Are you family?"
he asked. She not then knowing nodded yes and the doctor led her back
into the ER as Zach and Chris slept in the waiting room. "How is he?"
she asked the doctor. "He has been through a hell of a lot. He has a

replied. As they chatted the two of them walked into the room where
Joshua was laying. He was all bandaged up but Zach 's mom knew right
away who she was looking at. "Ma'am what relation did you say you were

the best thing to do at the time." his mother told him. "Why did you

knowing what to say or even think Zach got up and walked out of the room.
Chris looked to Zach 's mom and asked, "Why didn't you tell him before
when Josh first showed up? You know he's always wanted a brother. Now
that he does have one he may not for long cus Josh might not live." "
Christopher please I didn't know how to tell him.  And I know how he
feels, I have both of my sons back now and one may not live to even know

            Out in the hall Zach leaned his back against the wall and

some rest now and I, WE have a lot to tell you tomorrow." Zach said
looking towards his mother. "Ok, but how did I get here? I thought I was

got this weird feeling that you were hurt so we came to your foster
dad's house to check on you. And we ended up saving you I guess." Chris
explained. "Thank you guys." Josh mumbled before passing back out.  A
few minutes later the doctor came in and said, "Ok I'm afraid he needs
rest now. You may return tomorrow during visiting hours to see him. We
need to get him to x ray shortly to make sure no internal injuries
occurred." Hearing that Zach, his mom, and Chris departed for the hall
way to leave but not before Zach snuck a few last words into Josh's ear,
"I love ya bro. I'l see ya tomorrow."

            Once they finally reached Zach 's house again it was nearly
daylight and all three were exhausted. "Boys I think its best that we
try to get a few hours sleep before we get back to the hospital." His

While the boys were visiting Joshua the doctor was describing the laundry

could have proven fatal if he hadn't been brought here when he was. He
has a perforated left lung, bruised kidney, and a few bruised ribs. Now
we think he is going to pull through ok, but he's going to need quite a
bit of bed rest." "When will he be awake? I have some thing he HAS to
be told." The boys' mother said. "Right now we are keeping him under
due to the amount of pain he will be feeling if he was awake. But if the
tests and x-rays check out later, maybe tomorrow sometime he will be
awake and aware enough to talk. It's just a good thing he was found when
he was or he might be dead now." The doctor stated. Just about then a
lady carrying a briefcase walked in the room towards the doctor and the
mother. "Hello I am from child protective services I'm afraid I need to
talk to all parties involved with last night events." She said. "Ok I
guess then you need to speak with all three of us then." The mother
stated. "Zachary, Christopher come on boys we need to let him rest for
now. This woman needs to speak with us about last night." She told the
friends. "Ok in order to keep your stories of last nights events
accurate I will need to speak with each of you alone." The lady told
them. Chris was the first to go with her even though she told him he
didn't have to speak to her without his parents there, he had nothing to
hide. Chris described how Zach had freaked out when they were in bed and
how he got everyone to go to Josh's. Next it was Zach turn, he explained
in detail of his dream about Josh and how he got his mom to take him to
check on Josh. He went on to tell her how the foster dad pulled him in
the house and where he found Joshua beaten in the floor. Finally it was
Zachs mothers turn. She gave her story of the nights events from her
perspective and how she came to find out that she was Joshua's mother.
As the social services woman did her paper work she started to talk to
Zach's mom. "Well it seems we have a situation at this point. This
young mans father whom you claim to have given up rights to is now passed
away. And the foster father whom he was placed with is now in jail, where
he belongs I might add. This young man is going to need several weeks of
healing and help to get through this ordeal. Ma'am what I'm getting to
is, seeing that you are the biological mother as stated on his birth
certificate would you possibly be in the position of taking over custody
and care of this young man until the legalities are sorted out?" without
even giving the question two thoughts Zach and his mom both said in
unison, "Absolutely!" Zach still having teary eyes and his moms
starting to water up. "Ok as of right now you are granted immediate
temporary custody of Joshua Taylor until we prepare our case in court."
The woman told the mother. Hearing those words Zach's mother burst into
full blown tears of joy and sadness. Joy for being reunited with him, and
sadness for the hell he has been through recently. Zach, and Chris now to
were also crying with her. The three of them walked over to Josh's bed
side where the "twins" mother gave her older son a light loving kiss on
his swollen cheek. Once the three had calmed their sobs of reunification
the doctor rejoined them. "I'm afraid we need to change Some of
Joshua's bandages now and he has an appointment for some x-rays so I'm
sorry to say that you may visit him later or tomorrow." He stated.
Agreeing with him their mother decided to take Zach and Chris home. "Can
I please just have one more minute alone with him before we go?" Zach
pleaded. The doctor and his mom fully agreed. Zach walked back to his
brothers' bed leaned down kissed Josh on the forehead and whispered so
no one else could hear to him, "I'm glad we're finally together. And
I'm gonna be the best little bro you can ever have. I love you." That
said Zach rejoined his mom and best friend before departing for home. On
the ride home Zach's mom told Chris, "Christopher honey I'm going to
drop you off at home for a while and you can come over later after
checking in with your parents. Zachary and I need to have a long talk."
"Ok that's kewl. I'll come over later then." Chris replied. When they
pulled in front of Chris' home Zach got out of the car so Chris could
get out of the back seat. Once out of the car he gave his best friend a
brotherly hug. "Dude its all gonna be kewl now. You finally got your
wish." Chris said in Zach's ear as he hugged him. They 12 yo best
friends broke their hug and Chris went in his house and Zach back into
the car. Zach's mom had a list of things to explain a mile long and she
and Zach both knew it. It was going to be a very long day indeed.
