So in the last Chapter, there were some MAJOR things discovered
(and apparently some major feels, though I didn't think they were that
major, considering what Xander's going to go through soon).

Finn broke the little trust Xander had been building up in him by
sneaking behind his back and looking at Xander's journals. That's when he
(and you), discovered that Xander had been abused and raped by foster kids
or biological kids in all of his foster homes, or by other youth in those
neighborhoods, and the other kids made it out as if he were a troublemaker,
leading up to him running away. No mention of what he did when he ran away,
but you'll find out here in a few chapters.

Finn (and you) also discovered that Xander had a connection to
Finn's father's company, through the form of a kid going into social work
(that's not mentioned) that would come by the orphanage when Xander was
younger, a teen Xander had developed a deep bond to before the teen passed
away in an accident.

After that, Finn sent Xander to Ben's grave and supplied Xander
with a fresh supply of the journals Xander used, apologizing about
intruding upon Xander's privacy.

~~Chapter Six – The Defender, the Fair, and the Bright~~

[Finn]

For the last couple of weeks, Xander's been meeting me at the doors
to his house in a pair of shorts and a sleeveless, and we go on a run. At
first, we have to walk a good portion of it, since he can't run as far with
his current stamina and strength, but now, after two weeks, we run for
thirty minutes straight.

After we finish our run, we go into the exercise room that's set
up, slip off our shoes, get on the mats, and do pushups and situps and
pullups and such, all bodyweight for him. No equipment for now. After that,
it's martial arts. He picks it up easily, learning the moves quickly, and
he's got pretty good reflexes, too. Damn good reflexes. But shitty
confidence, and so he doesn't really show his good reflexes much.

I push him hard, knowing that unless I do, he won't actually try. I
also know he only does it because he's scared of what I'll do if he
doesn't, but I won't do anything. He never complains, doesn't actually talk
at all during it. I feel bad for misleading him, again, but honestly, I
think it's better that for now, he does it because he thinks he has to, and
damn be what any psychologist says about letting him know he's got control.

After the training, I try to help him with his penmanship, which is
truly awful. Unlike with the training, where I keep his mind distracted
enough on just getting through, he can actually think about how bad he is
here, and it makes it harder for him to focus.

At seven, on the dot, we stop and eat breakfast, then take showers
and get dressed.

Today's his birthday, and he meets me as usual. We go through our
routine, and after he gets dressed, Xander does what he always does and
stays in his room. It's his birthday, but he probably thinks it's like any
other birthday, and that today will be the norm for him.

He's got no idea that we're throwing him a massive party, and that
we're inviting all of his future classmates to it. Well, not all, just the
ones we know are good, and we've warned them all that Xander probably won't
like the party, and that he doesn't like to be touched and will more than
likely give them the cold shoulder. We told them not to bring gifts, but as
we're setting up and people start arriving, gifts arrive as well.

It was Karma who told everyone, since even classmates who've known
me since we were five tend to avoid me. I do look a bit freaky, and to the
middle-school kids I used to go to school with who only ever saw me in the
halls, not in class, I'm probably very unnerving.

Karma, on the other hand, was the girl everyone wanted to be
friends with (or were jealous of), and who the boys wanted to date. I'm
pretty sure most of the boys who showed up did just because Karma asked.

Then I spot him, and a pit forms in the bottom of my
stomach. Crap. One of the cutest kids in the grade below mine, who was on
vacation out of the country with his brothers all summer and got home this
morning. A kid I really wish I'd gotten to hang out with when he was just a
tad bit younger, but who was unnerved by me, just like everyone else. And
he's here, and looking as hot as ever.

	Fuck.

Lucas Kyles, thirteen, talkative, friendly, with light brown hair,
brown eyes, and a small spattering of freckles on his cheeks and nose, and
he looks younger than he really is, one of the reasons I still find him a
little bit attractive.

He's got on designer clothes, like everyone else, but like Xander,
he could probably rock any outfit he's put in, even if it's the worst
possible combination. Nice build, and right now, the signs of being in the
sun are showing in his tanned skin. Luke's ONLY fallacy is his mouth: he
doesn't stop talking. Ever.

That will probably happen when he meets Xander, if Xander ever
comes out of his room. He came out around lunch and probably didn't think
anything of the party being set up, as no one was here yet at that point.

Luke's babbling about his vacation to a classmate of his, and I'm
not sure if they're friends or not, but it's Luke, so it's possible they
don't even like him. When he picks you as his target, he doesn't stop until
he's done, and there's nothing you can do about it.

[Xander]

I went down for lunch. It looks like there's a party of some kind
going on tonight. Rich people like their parties. I wonder what it's
for. They probably forgot it's my birthday, Finn didn't even mention it
this morning. I bet he doesn't even care. He's probably only working out
with me so that I can look better for him for when he decides he's going to
do it to me. I'm too ugly for him.

Around three, Finn barges into my room. He hasn't done that since
he left the journals, he's always knocked first.

"Alright, lazy bum," he says. "Get up and go enjoy the party."

	"No."

"Let's go, Xander," he says. "Everyone's waiting."

"I'm just giong to ruin it." Why would everyone be waiting just
because I'm not there?

"Doubt that," he laughs. "It's your birthday party, silly, let's
go."

Huh? Did he say that it's my birthday party? Why is there a party
being thrown for me? I'm a nothing, a nobody. I don't deserve a party.

"Come on," he grabs my arm, and this time, I go with him.

He lets go of my arm after we leave my room, but I keep following
him, and we arrive outside, where there are probably a hundred people or
so, and balloons everywhere. As soon as I'm outside, Turtle barks, tackling
me and throwing me to the ground as everyone shouts, "Happy birthday!"

"Get off of me!" I fight with Turtle to get him off, I haven't seen
him in a couple of weeks, and missed him.

He missed me, too, I guess. He's probably the only one who would
miss me, if I were gone.

There are a lot of presents piled up on a table, and after the cake
is blown out (I've never blown out a cake before, and that confused me when
they wanted me to. And scared me. The fire scared me, Karma blew it out for
me), Finn talks me into opening up the presents.

"But so you know," he says softly. "We all got you presents, too,
but they're inside, we'll have you open them after the party."

I get a lot of books. I like books, they don't hurt me. I get a few
movies, too, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use the T.V. in my room or
not, so I probably won't watch them. I get some games, but I don't have a
console, and some more books, and a bunch of other things. I'm not sure
what to do with all of them.

Sometime after the presents, a few moments after Finn walks away
from me to go get some punch, someone walks up to me, scaring me when he
approaches suddenly.

	"Hey, cutie!"

[Luke]

	"He's so cute!" I squeal.

"Who?" Parker rolls his eyes, looking at me. He was checking out
Karma, he thinks she's hot. Parker's my best friend in the whole world, and
I missed him to death over the summer. "You think almost every guy here is
cute."

"Because you all are!" I exclaim. "It's Xander, the birthday boy!
Look at him, he's so cute! And he looks so shy, too! I've decided, if he's
gay, I'm going to be his boyfriend, he's definitely a good guy."

"You want to be everyone's boyfriend," Parker says. "Well, every
guy's boyfriend. And every single guy you've tried for is
straight. Thankfully, no one's managed to find out you're gay, or you'd be
in hell."

	"That's because they're all losers," I wave a hand
dismissively. "Bullies and jerks, and I'm not actually into them once
that's discovered. Xander's definitely neither of those, and so he's
definitely an awesome guy. I bet he wouldn't bully me for being gay. I'm
going to ask him if he'll be my boyfriend. I would have gotten him a
present, but I would've ended up getting here late, and I'd rather be on
time or early than late. I can't believe we're getting such a cute
classmate. Think he'll sit with us at lunch? I want him to sit with us at
lunch. The ghost's walked away from him, let's go talk with him, I bet he's
got cool stories."

"Luke, wait!" Parker tries to catch up with me as I walk over to
Xander.

"Hey, cutie!" I greet him. "Having fun at your party? Sorry I
didn't get you a present, I got Karma's message right after I got off the
plane, and came straight here, and barely got here on time. Karma said we
didn't have to bring presents, but I really wanted to, but didn't want to
be late for the party, especially since you're a new kid, and I don't know
much about you. You got a lot of books, you like to read? Want to hang out
sometime? Nice dog. Is his name really Turtle? How'd he get that name? he
doesn't look slow. Or is he just slow to learn things?"

[Finn]

I thought it was safe to go get punch, but I swear, I can't leave
Xander for two seconds with Luke around. I turn around, and Luke's over
there, talking to Xander, who looks like a deer caught in the headlights. I
hurry back over to Xander.

"...and I'll get you your present then, too, okay?" Luke asks, then
glances at me nervously. "Hi, Ghost. Xander's really cool. Did you know
that he likes to draw? We're gonna hang out tomorrow, I'm going to get his
present then, since I wasn't able to get one before the party today, didn't
want to be late to the party of someone I've never met before. It was a
hard choice, either be late, or have no present. Better to be late than
have a present, though. You can't hang out with us, though, because you're
kind of creepy."

"Did you call me 'Ghost'?" I attempt to process everything he
said. He called me creepy, too. To my face.

"You usually look like one," Luke answers. "We're going to go the
mall, probably. Or the bookstore. Gonna go the craft store, though, and
pick out his present. I'm going to get him a sketchbook, or maybe some
pencils and stuff. He apparently likes to draw. Ooh, maybe I'll get him
both! Hey, Xander, after we get your presents tomorrow, can you draw me? I
wanna see how good you are. You're probably awesome at it," Xander's cheeks
turn red, and I know it's because he thinks he's horrible at it. I wonder
if he actually does like to draw, or if it's another one of Luke's
assumptions. "You turn even cuter when your cheeks turn red. Want to date?"

Luke actually stops talking and stares at Xander, waiting for an
answer. Wow, someone who can get Luke to shut up, and he doesn't even have
to talk. In fact, it's lack of talking that's causing it. His best friend,
Parker, looks...annoyed. I'm betting he's been keeping Luke from outing
himself, Parker's the only one who can even have semblance of power over
Luke and actually kind of keep him in check, and the homophobia can be
pretty bad at our schools, but not by the staff, who actually accept the
LGBT community. It's the students who have an issue.

"Please say yes," Luke begs nervously, but then goes back to
staring at Xander.

I'm about to interject so that Xander doesn't have to say anything
when Xander speaks up.

"Don't hurt me," he almost whines, his voice quietly.

"Hurt you?" Luke looks bewildered. "Dude, you're awesome, and
you're cute as hell, why would I hurt you? I wanna date ya. I promise that
we can go sloooow," Luke deepens his voice and draws that word out, moving
his shoulders to some unknown beat. "Unless...you're talking about
sex. Don't worry, if you're worried about being hurt, I can be slow at
first, I think. I've never actually done anal before, but I'm pretty sure
that if we've got enough foreplay, it won't hurt. Or at least, not as
bad. But damn, do you move fast. Here I was, thinking we'd just be going on
dates and cuddling for now, and you're already there. Or maybe that's just
my mind misinterpreting things. Did you just get out of a bad relationship?
Is that why you're so shy? Don't worry, X, I won't dump you or cheat or
hurt you, swear on me mum's grave!"

He went into an actual British accent, there. Not a fake British
accent, an actual British accent. He's adorable and annoying all at the
same time.

"You're mom's quite alive," Parker pops him in the back of the
head.

"So I'm swearing on her future grave," Luke shrugs, then looks back
at Xander. "What say you? We together? Or not?" Xander keeps staring at
him. "Tell you what, let me know when I show up to pick you up
tomorrow. Oh, it'll actually be my driver, not me, since I'm only thirteen
and can't drive. Well, I can, but not legally. So I had this really fun
time driving over the summer, and..."

	And he's back to babbling.

[Luke]

	"I've got a date!" I squeal.

"No, you don't," Parker sighs. "He didn't actually say
'yes'. Actually, he didn't say much of anything there. You don't even know
if he's gay."

We're now at my place, lying next to each other on my bed. We
haven't hung out all summer, and now that we're hanging out, we don't know
what to do, but we can talk.

"That's fine," I say. "He doesn't need to talk. And he clearly
thought about it, and he's cute, so he's going to say yes."

"I don't follow that thought process."

"Boys!" Mom yells. "Come down for dinner!"

We both get up and bolt down to the kitchen. It's a bit of a late
dinner because of the party, but it's dinner, nonetheless, and we love
Mom's cooking, so even after gorging ourselves on food at the party, we've
got room for dinner.

"How was the party?" Mom asks as we eat. "And don't start
babbling."

"It was awesome," I answer. "So Xander's actually extremely cute,
and we've got a date tomorrow. By the way, I'm taking the driver, since I
can't legally drive. We're gonna hang out. I'm gonna buy him a present,
since I didn't get him one for the party. I'm gonna need some money for
that. But yeah, so he's really cute. He's got curly brown hair and this
amazing blue-gray eyes that I can just fall deep into, and staring into
them is kind of enchanting. They even have a touch of green in them. It's
like staring at jewels. He's so shy, but he's really cute. We're gonna hang
out tomorrow, it's gonna be a date. He told me likes to draw. Oh! I should
have asked him if he wanted a sketchbook or pencils! I'll ask him
tomorrow. So..."

[Xander]

Luke looks a lot like Kevin. A lot like him. I'm now how old Kevin
was. I'm scared. Luke's cute. Like, really, really cute. I don't want to be
his friend, he's probably going to do what Kevin did. I bet he's already
planning on it. I should probably tell him I don't want to hang out
tomorrow. I should have told him at the party, but I was scared. What if he
hurts me because I tell him I don't want to? He's going to hurt me, that's
why he wants to hang out. Please don't hurt me.

~~END OF CHAPTER SIX~~

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoyed it!

Thanks for all the feedback on the last chapter! Don't forget –
you can always tell me what you think of the story, and any ideas you've
got for it! I can't guarantee it'll make it in soon, but if I like it,
it'll definitely get added in somewhere!

Before going into the NLXK trivia, I'd like to make a note here,
due to some emails I got. If you don't care for this note, skip the rest of
this paragraph. This is a story being posted in the Young Friends section
of the Nifty Archive, which is for GLBT romances and erotica (written sex,
to be distinguished from porn in that it's not counted as porn for laws
banning minors from having sex, and is perfectly legal in most places due
to that). I will be having sex scenes at varying points in the story (not
for a little bit, they don't feel right right now). I will not involve
characters under the age of ten, but ten and up is fair game, to me. There
will be swearing (if you haven't figured that out yet). Xander is, in fact,
the only King I've given a story to who swears in any circumstance except
when angry (not that you'd know, with how little he talks). If this offends
you, GET OUT OF THIS SECTION OF THE ARCHIVE. Jeez. Most of the stories in
this section of the Archive have sex WAY BEFORE mine does, and their scenes
are a bit more detailed than mine, too. When I got the first email, I
actually smacked myself in the face and went "Who the hell goes into a
section of a romance/sex site where youth have sex, and then gets offended
by them having sex because they're 'too young'?" 1) Even a kid of 8 or 9
can have a sex drive, if they've hit puberty already or have been
introduced to it in some form. 2) Kids swear. 3) Get over it.

	Now on to the trivia!

It finally happened! Yes, I know, it's only six Chapters, but it
HAS been a month or so since the first Chapter went up (I actually meant to
submit this yesterday, but time got away from me – oops!).You finally
meet the fourth Main Character! I mean third! There's only three, don't
worry, I haven't introduced a fourth one into the story (yet). Garret's not
a Main, as some of you were thinking.

Now, we've got Luke, who's hyperactive, who's a babbler, and who
asked Xander out on a date. Will Xander go out with him? Or does the fact
that he looks like Kevin (mentioned in Chapter 5 as the kid who severely
abused him two years past) keep Xander from forming a real relationship
with Luke?

The title of this chapter probably won't make much sense unless you
know about the meanings of names. Alexander's meaning is 'defender' or
'warrior' (depending on where you go), Finn's is 'white' or 'fair' (in the
fair-skinned/haired sense of the meaning), and Luke's is 'bright' or 'born
at daybreak'. Luke is very bright (and energetic), and Finn is VERY white
(for those of you who missed that whole thing Xander did in the first
chapter, Finn's albino). Heck – even Karma meets her personality
spot-on: she's a bitch, and she bites.

So...why does Xander have a name that means something he's clearly
not? Is that some kind of forewarning or foreshadowing on my part? Am I
hinting at what he'll be like when he finally opens up? Or maybe I just
wanted to make a King named 'Xander'? Only I know! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Okay, maybe I have a bit too much energy right now. I haven't had
breakfast yet. Pity those who work with me, and deal with it. :P

Again, feel free to message me with any questions, comments, or
suggestions! I'd love to hear from you, and how you think the story will
go! Or even how you want it to go! Do you want him to get with Finn? Or
maybe it's Luke you prefer (what little of him you've seen so far)?

	Stay tuned for Chapter 7!
