CHAPTER FOUR

BOYS TALK:

      At the hospital Jesse was taken right into emergency, while Jeff and
Peter sat in the waiting room the officers sitting with them quietly
talking. Peter was getting loud as he listened to the questions the
officers kept asking and he let his anger take over, his brother was sick,
he was scared, so he let everything out on the officers, telling them
everything. "And if you fucking don't believe me then look at our backs,
look at Jesse lying in there hurting, there is nothing you can say or do
that will make us go back."

"We aren't going to take you back, not after what you have told us, but we
will have to get child services involved. The fact that your not from this
state might make it difficult, but we will do what we can, just know this,
we are on your side here."

"Does that mean you have to contact social services in Prescott, cuz if you
do we are totally @$&*."

"Why do you say that?"

" Well that Davidson woman will tell you to bring us back, every time we
spoke to her about what mom did, she would just tell us to shut up and go
home."

"I tell you what Peter, how about you and Jesse staying here with the
Martins and we will get in contact with the Prescott sheriff and see if he
can help us, I promise we won't use your names. Can you trust us to help,
can you trust us to get you into the Martin's home for good."

"Do we have a choice?"

"Sure you can stay here and enjoy yourselves or you can leave with us and
end up in so juvenile facilities till we clear this up."

"Fine we will stay here besides we have some friends going to drop by some
time before school starts."

      Hours later Jesse was sent home with some medication to take. He was
told to take it easy for a week and to come back for more x rays. Richard
had just gotten Jesse on the couch when Jeff ran in" Hey dad Graham and
Edith just pulled up," You think they are here to visit us."

      Hearing that Jesse jumped up and ran outside, gently pushing past the
officers and running down the driveway, jumping into Grahams arms, " You
did it, you came back, like you said." cried Jesse."

"Sure did lil bit, I always keep my word, now how are you and your brother
doing?"

"We doing good; well we were, till they showed up." pointing to the police,
Jesse buried his face in Graham's shoulder.  I think they going to take us
away, they don't believe us when we told them why we ran away."

      Setting Jesse down he patted his shoulder and told him to
wait. Walking up to the officers he excused himself and after telling them
who he was and where he was from, he went on to explain what he knew, and
what the boys had told them as they were riding with them. He also told
them what they had heard when the boys thought that he and his wife were
sleeping and they talked. He told them that Jesse had threatened to kill
himself if he was sent back.

      The officers said that they had enough to let the boys stay here, and
that if they needed more they would contact him and his wife.

      After talking to the officers, Graham gave Peter and Jeff a hug and
shook Richard's hand. Meanwhile Edith came up with Jesse under her arm and
she also gave the boys a hug.

      Once the police had left and everyone was inside sitting Graham and
Edith told everyone what they had done and what they had seen. They then
invited everyone to join them for Christmas with there family in
Waco. Richard countered the offer by inviting everyone to spend two weeks
in Aspen Colorado at his expense. Graham agreed but also said that they
would help with the cost and he wouldn't argue with Richard over it,
besides, it will be fun to spend time with all his grandkids.

      For the next three weeks Graham, Edith and the Martins enjoyed
themselves. Spending three days at six Flags; the families then toured some
of the historic sites around Huston including a day at NASA. Graham and
Edith both got their wish in hearing the boys laughing and enjoying being
boys. After resting at home for a day everyone heading into San Antonio
spending time on the River walk, trying out some five inch cinnamon buns.

      By the end of the third week everyone was relaxed, Jeff was getting
ready to go back to school the following week, while Peter and Jesse waited
to see what was happening with them. The Friday before everyone had
finished breakfast there was a knock at the front door. Jeff being closest
went and answered it, only to find so middle aged woman standing
there. "Hello young man, are your parents home?"

"Yeah dad is home, who are you?"

"I am with social services from Prescott Arizona."

"OK, wait here I'll get my dad."

"I'll just step inside and wait."

" Nope, dad says never let any one in I don't know, and I don't know you,
so you have to wait there."

"Now listen boy, I am stepping in and waiting and no kid is going to tell
me other wise."

"Good try lady, but you can stay right there."

"Ma'am he is right you are to wait out there until I say you can come in."
Richard spoke from behind his son

"You must be this lad's father, I am Gina Davidson, I am here to take two
boys back to there mother in Prescott."

" I don't think so, you see I have temporary custody of the boys until the
state police have finished their investigation, looks like you didn't do
you home work."

"I assure you I did my home work, and Social services, has complete
custody, not you."

"Well ma'am, looks like you will have to leave."

"I am not leaving without the boys."

"Yes you are now have a good day, close the door son and let's finish your
breakfast."

      Closing the door both Jeff and his dad could hear the woman screaming
and cursing, smiling Jeff went back and ate Peter and Jesse were sitting
there looking at him. "Thanks bro, we wouldn't have gone back with her no
matter what."

"No prob dudes no *^@$& is going to take my bros way."

"Boys looks like you are all going have to stay inside for your safety."

"No way am I letting some bitch ruin our weekend."

" Peter I don't let Jeff swear, and I won't let you, but your right we
really can't let her mess you all up, but I will insist that I be with you
till this is cleared up, can you accept that?"

"I guess."

"Why don't you three go shower and get dressed? We have to go shopping for
school clothes for you all."

      While the boys went to there showers Richard went can called the
officers that were over talking to the boys, when he had one on the phone
he explained what had just happened and explained his fears about the boy's
safety.

      When the officer heard all that Richard had to say he offered a
couple to watch the boys if he had to go out, or to be with them all, he
also said that this Gina Davidson was no longer with social services, in
fact she is awaiting trial on fraud charges, therefore if she is picked up
out of state she could also be charged with fleeing. Richard turned down
the officers of watching them, as he felt that he could handle that. He
also wanted to know what was happening with the boys.

      The boys had finished their shower, dressed and were just standing
outside the when they heard Richard asking about the boys, the question
froze the boys in their steps, " I knew it wasn't going to work" whispered
Jesse, "Guess no one wants us,"

"Now, you know that isn't right, spoke Jeff, "We want you here, we love
you."

"Yeah right that is why he wants to send us away?"

"You don't know that Jesse, he did keep that woman from taking you away
right?"

Just as Jesse was about to say something Richard walked into the
hall. "Well boys looks like you get to stay here for a long time; your
mother was arrested yesterday for possession, child abused and
prostitution. So you're stuck with us now."

"You mean it?" Asked Peter, his eyes filled with tears.

"Yes son I mean it, and on Monday I register you two for school, the same
one as Jeff goes to if you want."

"Wicked?" Jesse cried.

      The rest of the day flew by, shopping, having fun, and just being
boys. The afternoon the boys spent a few hours swimming.

      Monday came too soon for every one; the boys were up and dressed by 7
am. With breakfast out of the way Richard pushed them out the door. "Time
to get you boys educated."

      The school itself was huge as Peter and Jesse looked around they were
awe struck. "This place must cost lots to go to? Whispered Jesse,

"Yeah, and look so far no girls around." mumbled Peter.

"Yeah bros this is a boy's only school, the only girls here are the
teachers well except for the swim instructor." said Jeff.

      Laughing the boys toured the school, then walking back into the
office the boys stated they would love to go here. With school settled the
boys went off to class following Jeff.

      Days turned to weeks, weeks to months and the boys settled in to
school, and thanksgiving was approaching.

      Graham and Edith were coming for the holidays which exited Peter and
Jesse.

      It was during the holidays that word came that some gentleman was
looking for the boys. No one knew anything about him except that he was
from California and some rich looking dude.

After the holidays, Richard sat down with the three boys.

"Peter, Jesse, Jeff and I have talked this over and both of us were
wondering if you would like to be adopted?"

"You mean by a family?" Asked Peter

"Told you Peter,, now you believe me." Jesse cried running from the
room. Jeff took off after him, leaving Peter and with Richard."

      Upstairs in his room Jesse tossed himself face down on top his bed,
he didn't hear the door open nor did he feel Jeff sit on the edge.  "Jesse,
listen, you ran off before you heard everything."

"Who cares, you're kicking us out."

"We aren't kicking you out, your staying here. We want to adopt you and
your bro,"

"You're just saying that, I know, no one wants us, even mother didn't
that's why she beat us."

"You know that won't happen here, we both love you and Peter, you're my lil
bro."

      Sitting up Jesse used the sleeve to dry his eyes and snuggled with
Jeff.

      Down in the living room, Peter and Richard were talking, Peter
Laughing and crying, knowing he had found a place to call home. While
talking Peter had told Richard about his feelings for Jeff, and all Richard
could do was laugh. Richard already knew how those two felt for each other.

      Christmas time in Aspen was joyous; Graham and his family showed up
Jesse found some one to love bringing the two families closer together For
Jesse had fallen in love with Graham's oldest grandson spending the nights
in his bed as Jeff and Peter shared theirs. All the adults knew what had
happened and sat up late at nights talking about how to keep everyone
together.

      Back in Canyon city the lawyer from California, had found out where
Peter and Jesse were living and went to see them only to learn that they
were away for the holidays.

      Leaving his card the lawyer headed home to be with his own family
wanting to share the season with them.

      In Prescott, Mr. Talbert the lawyer that Richard had hired to help
with the adoption of Peter and Jesse had been asked by the courts to
represent the boy's mother. " Your honor with all due respect I can not
with all honesty be the lawyer for this woman, one reason is that it would
be a conflict of interest, since I am the lawyer for her two sons. The
other reason I feel that I would not be able to give her my best, do to
moral issues."

      "Very well Mr. Talbert, I discharge you from your responsibilities to
this woman. Ma'am I have no choice but to remand this case until such times
as you have obtained legal counsel. This case is remanded until January
24th." case dismissed."

      With the holidays over, the boys were back in school. Peter and
Jesse's grade continued to improve with Jeff's help and the fact they had
people who cared for them. The boy's mother was found guilty and sentenced
to 10 years in prison.

      Mr. Talbert had come to talk to Richard about the out come and the
fact that the judge had terminated the mother's rights, thus clearing the
way for him to fully adopt the boys if that was still what he was
wanting. When Richard told Talbert to proceed, he knew that the time had
come to tell the boys the rest of the plans.

      School was over for the year, vacation time was on and the boy's were
thinking of swimming camping and just relaxing Richard on the other hand
had other ideas for them. A week after school ended he called all
together. "Boys it is time to let you know what is happening, starting on
Monday we will be packing the house up and getting ready to move. We will
be traveling closer to Waco where our new house has been finished and is
ready for us now. Once everything is packed, the movers will come in and
take everything there for us, we will travel on our own, and meet them
there. Once unpacked the rest of the summer is yours. Well except for
Saturdays when you will have classes for two hours in the mornings."

"Classes?"  They all asked together.

"Well yes but if you don't want to learn to ride a horse then I will call
the instructor and cancel."

"No we will go to class. Can Bobby join us?" Jesse asked.

"We will have to talk to his father but I don't see a problem."

      When Jesse had asked his question Peter looked over at Jeff and
smiled. "He wants his friend close to him." whispered Jeff, blushing a bit
when he saw Jesse looking at him.

      The move happened just after Mr. Talbert had brought some papers for
Richard, telling him that he was to hold them till Peter and Jesse were
eighteen, then they could have them. The boys loved the new house, Bobby
joined in the riding lessons, and the four boys grew closer. They all went
to the same school, Bobby and Jesse played soccer, while Jeff and Peter
joined the swim team. Life for the boys grew happy their love for each
other also grew.

Life for everyone was going great and Peter and Jesse learned to trust the
Martin's.
