Chapter 7.	Silent fear follows them to their new home.



A stunned and scared Mike lay on the floor of his room trying to regain his

"We don't know how to make food Bryan we just know how to eat it." One of

He got up and headed inside. The place reeked of spoiled food and old mold
was still on some of it. He poked his head out into the front.

"I'm not sure how much food there is to eat here."

shelves of frozen burgers, fries, and other things that the store sold when
it was open. At least we will be able to eat something. He thought to

flamer which was still running. After picking out all the old food and

into the open flame. While that was running he looked for buns and filled a
couple of baskets with fries and lowered them into the questionable oil to

warmer and tried to steam them. That failed as they turned soggy and he
decided to microwave them on defrost mode. After all his prep a good

themselves to soda and anything else that appeared to be good enough to
drink and eventually Bryan sat with a few burgers and a huge order of fries
and began to eat. By then all the others were done and starting to fool
around and get fidgety. He stood up and yelled out.

"HEY! Knock it off and let me eat in peace or next time no one will eat

That got their attention and most of them went to sit back down or find
something more peaceful to do. Twenty or so minutes later Bryan was letting

Kate.

He got up from his seat and surveyed the damage done by the boys after they
ate.

"I know, he said. I'm not going anywhere this time. I was worried the last

happened with Matt I don't think you are really going to say anything

He turned to Mike, his zipper was down but that was it.

"I'm not gonna say anything but I am also not going to go with you in here
so before I change my mind why don't you just get out and let me finish."

"No I don't think so. You owe me for last night and I want some payback!"

"Get out!" he said raising his voice and giving off a small bit of fear in
it as it echoed off the walls of the bathroom.

Mike thought for a fast second about whether Austin was serious or if he
should push this further.

"No I don't think so, Mike barked back at him. Why don't you just pee and
get it over with and I will call it even for now."

"No! He said loudly as he reached down and pulled his zipper back up. If
you aren't leaving then I am not gonna go, I'll go on the RV!"

He headed for the door but Mike leaned on it and wouldn't allow Austin to

pumps. This station was dry. They had to move on down the road and find
another. He wasn't in danger of running out of gas with the gage just over
the one quarter line but he was still a bit worried not wanting to get
stuck in the middle of nowhere even though he has a generator on board and
could probably make due with a night in the RV if necessary.

"Everyone here?" he yelled out into the back of the dark RV

"We can't tell its too dark turn on the lights." Someone said.

He fumbled around the dash for a switch and finally turned the overhead
lights on in the middle of the RV. They did a head count and one was
missing.

"Where is Todd? Ryan said with sudden fear in his voice. Todd is missing."

For the first time today one of the twins was worried about the other and
it showed big time as Ryan quickly got off the RV flying out the door
yelling his brother name out.

"TODD... TODD where are you? He yelled out. TODD!!"

He had run ahead looking for his brother. Suddenly out of no where a hand
grabbed his shoulder and Ryan spun quickly around to see who it was.

"Todd where the hell were you? We were all worried!"

"Sorry bro, I had to take a dump and I didn't want anyone to know."

"Everything okay over there?"

"Yeah Bryan just give us a minute please we are fine!" Todd yelled back.

"Okay boys just not too long."

"Okay we'll be right there." Ryan said.

"So you were worried about me Ryan?"

"Of course I was why would you think different?"

"You know... you haven't said a word to me since... since we talked and do

"No you don't and this isn't the place for it anyway. Come on lets get back
on the RV we can talk about this another time."

"No I want to get this over with Ryan I don't want to go on anymore without
us talking about last night and getting past this."

"Todd we can't have this talk out here it's too cold and they are waiting
for us."

"You're just making excuses Ry, come on man we are twins we need to get
this over!"

"We can't do this now... look Bryan is coming we will have to finish this
up later."

Todd was mad but he didn't want anyone knowing about this so he agreed as
Bryan approached them.

"Look guys I know you two are having problems but we need to go. I'm sorry
but whatever is happening will have to wait for later."

Neither of them said anything to Bryan they just headed back and got on the
RV. Bryan put the already running vehicle into drive and they took off in
search of another gas station. As they sat down Matt spoke to them.

"Everything okay guys?"

"We'll be fine Matt, Thanks for asking," Ryan said.

They drove for a bit and Bryan spotted another gas station and pulled off
the road to once again try and fill up. The weather was still dry and it
gave all the boys another reason to get off the RV and do something. As the
gas flowed into his tank the boys basically ransacked the inside of the
store helping themselves to candy, gum, soda and anything else that looked
good. One of the boys looked at the cigarettes and when he thought no one
was looking he grabbed a pack and put them into his coat. Kate saw it
happen but let it go for now not wanting to make a big scene inside the
station. After watching the others fill their pockets and anything else
they could she headed outside to Bryan.

"Hey hon, the boys behaving inside there?"

"For the most part Bry, I want to get back on and check out Joel he was
sleeping in the baby chair but I don't like leaving him alone too long. How
much more gas do you need?"

"I'm not sure but I think a bit since I let it go so low."

"Okay I'll be right back I have something to tell you."

"Sounds important."

"It is." She replied.

He watched her head inside the RV wondering what was on her mind. Matt came
over as Bryan stood there pumping the gas.

"Hey Matthew what's up big guy?"

"I have been watching Mike and Austin they seem to be hiding something
Bryan have you noticed any problems between them?"

"Not really but Mike isn't someone I would call totally trustworthy. I want
to give him a second chance but I sense there is something there, something
wrong with him on some level."

"Yeah I think I know what you mean I can't put my finger on it but there is
something odd about him."

"Well whatever it is I just hope he behaves I would hate to lose him after
working this hard to get him this far along with us."

Matt shook his head yes and headed back inside. He immediately picked up
where Mike was and then where Austin was. At least they weren't close to
each other or as in other words in such tight quarters they were on
opposite sides of the RV. He looked quickly and then took his seat. He is a

other peoples business. For now he was okay doing what he could to help
keep the peace. Kate headed back out after checking Joel and as she
approached Bryan Ryan came over and she had to hold her comments for the

"How much farther do you think we have Bryan? He asked. I am getting a
little restless."

"We all are so hang in there. I have to make a decision when I get back on
the RV whether we go on or find a place and call it a night."

"If you are taking votes I say keep going but its your call."

 "Thanks Ryan I'll keep that thought in mind when I talk to the others."

With that he pulled the nozzle out of the tank and put it away, Ryan
watched as he capped the tank and Kate didn't get to tell him her news
since he immediately headed back on the RV. It will have to wait a bit.

"Can I have everyone's attention please... HEY!!"

His yelling finally brought all eyes forward on him.

"Okay boys I need to know if we should push on and get there tonight or
find a place and get comfy for now."

They started yelling out their thoughts and he yelled back at them to quiet

"Okay look this isn't working with all of you screaming idea's at me. Let's
take a vote since I really don't care either way. All in favor of going
forward raise your hands... he counted three hands. Okay against... the
remaining four hands leaving him to decide... Okay great I have to decide

Kate, Todd, Ryan and Matt wanted to stay over for the night and Jose, Mike
and Austin wanted to move on and get there.

"So what do you want Bryan?" Jose asked.

"I want to stay over at a place so we have plenty of light to find it in
the morning. So I guess we have decided."

Groans and cheers went up from the respective boys after Bryan decided that
another night in another motel was in order. It was for the best though
because trying to find the house in the dark would be hard and a fresh
start would be best. Bryan called Tommy's cell phone and gave him the
news. Tommy asked how far out they were and Bryan gave him a few
landmarks. Oddly enough Tommy knew where they were. He told Bryan he was
about an hour away in good weather so that pretty much sealed the idea of
finding a place for the night. Bryan hung up after he told Tommy he would
call again on Saturday morning when he got closer.

"Okay guys I just finished with Tommy and he said we are about an hour away
from him but that is in the daylight and without snowy roads so its best we
stay one more night and then arrive fresh and safely in the morning at our
new home."

There were grumbles and a couple more cheers with Bryan's words but it was
probably for the best they not push it in the dark. Now it was time to find
another motel and hunker down for the night. He got back behind the wheel
and off they went to search for a place to stay. Mike's reasoning to get
there was simple he knew somewhere out there Travis was following, Austin's
was that he wanted to get to a safe location so he wouldn't have to worry
about Mike bothering him tonight. Jose just wanted off the RV he was
getting a little sick from the long ride. Ryan and Todd wanted to talk
their problems from last night out in private. Matt wanted to get to a

driving so much today. They headed off in search of a place to rest.  The
drove on up the highway looking for a place but so far all they found were

that made it even harder to find a place. Twenty minutes later and a few
miles up the road Bryan finally spotted a place. He pulled up to it and
they got off the RV a few minutes later. Bryan gave them all a warning
about safety and then preached about being ready in the morning for those
who didn't move last night...as he looked at Austin and Jose... and then he
said he didn't want any problems once he was in bed and the usual don't
open the door for anyone unless you know who it is and so on... finally
they all got off the RV and followed Bryan and Kate to the main office of
this small looking motel. Once inside they checked for safeness and then
Bryan looked at the rooms. There were six rooms, just enough for everyone.

"Okay boys six rooms what's it gonna be?"

Matt strolled up and took a key, then Todd grabbed one for him and his
brother. Mike was next to take one leaving Austin and Jose. The only
problem was that Jose didn't want to spend another night with Austin for
whatever reason so after thinking about it he opted for a room alone.

"Okay Jose I guess at 12 years old you are old enough for your own room but
that leaves Austin alone and I really don't feel comfortable with a nine
year old sleeping alone. Are you sure you won't reconsider allowing him in
with you tonight?"

"If you don't mind I really would like to be alone. I didn't mind sleeping
with him one time but it wasn't that easy he made a lot of noise."

"Okay Jose point taken. Austin I guess you will get to have your own room
tonight."

"That's okay Bryan I'm old enough to handle it."

Mike was salivating taking all this in but he also knew he had to behave

"Okay everyone has a room, remember not to open the door to anyone unless
you are 100% sure you know who it is. If you have alarms in your room set
it for 7:30 I want to be out of here by 8am. If you are late I will punish

"How?" Jose asked.

"You will find out when it happens but if you really need to know something
just think about a red ass from a spanking."

"At your age I would expect you to be ready and mature enough to know

Ryan shook his head yes in agreement. It wasn't the answer to his question
but it was acceptable. With that the boys took off with their stuff and
headed for their rooms. All the rooms were about the same size with one
huge bed in them and a bathroom with a stand up shower, room for one person
at a time. They were small. The room was good enough for one night and they
all appeared to be clean and beds made. Austin put his key in the door and
opened it. He entered alone and after putting his stuff on the bed he
grabbed the alarm clock at the side table and set it for 7:15. He thought
to himself he wasn't going to allow Bryan to give him a red ass. Then he
went and shut his door when he realized it was getting cold in the
room. The boy has a lot to learn but he is only nine. Mike went in his room
and after dropping his stuff on a chair he shut and locked his door. He

Especially no Travis!! He sat for a few minutes thinking about or shall we
say scheming about what to do with Austin being alone in a room. This

 Austin was just a bit too young to have a gun as far as Bryan was
concerned so for tonight he was left with a locked door and any fears that
being alone would cause him. He got undressed and put his clothes in a

pajamas and pulled back the covers to the bed. He got into bed leaving the

will pass and we will go to bed without any discussion of last night?"

Ryan stood up and looked at his brother.

"Yeah okay I'll give you that but I was the one who sat there and tried not

Ryan didn't do anything inside the bathroom. Finally Todd walked away and
went to sit on his bed. A few minutes passed and Ryan stormed out of the
bathroom grabbed his coat and headed outside slamming the door before Todd
could react. He headed up the walkway and knocked on a door.

Matt was just getting to the point of no return when there was a knock on
his door. He tried ignoring it knowing he was seconds away from a great

Now also red faced he immediately turned and ran out of Matt's room leaving

of no where and look at Ryan. Ryan walked over towards him and out of

"Come on Ryan lets get back inside." Matt said to him.

That was all Travis heard and then it got quiet.

Ryan entered Matt's room and he quickly shut the door.

"Matt I'm so sorry I did that to you I wasn't thinking straight."

"Hey... it's okay it's my fault for answering the door that way. Forget
about it. What's wrong man? If you came to me at this time of the night
something had to happen, that's why I came out so fast to find you."

"Just so you know Matt I didn't see anything."

Matt smiled at him.

"Its okay we are guys forget it. What happened to make you come here?"

"It's Todd... I really can't talk about it I just ran out of the room and I
needed a place to go."

"Is he okay?"

"Yeah I guess you could say he is fine but I'm not... I just can't say
anything yet Matt. I'm sorry it's really private."

"That's okay I told you on the RV if you need me I am here."

"I know but right now I just need a place to hang out for a while."

"Then take off your coat and relax some."

"Thanks."

Ryan took his coat off and was now in just a tee shirt and sweat
pants. Matt looked him up and down.

"You are hardly dressed Ry."

"I know I left in a hurry."

"I can't imagine Todd is very happy right now."

"I'm sure he isn't happy at all, I know he is mad at me but I can't have
the talk he wants to have now Matt its just very hard to say some of the
stuff he wants to talk about."

"It's cool Todd you don't have to say anymore unless you want to."

Matt sat on his bed and Todd sat on the rocking lounge chair in the room.

"Ya know if its okay with you I'll just sit here for now and you can go
back to what you were doing before... he paused and the silence cut like a
sharp knife... Oh shit!!!... Sorry Matt I didn't mean it that way..."

Ryan turned beet red when he thought about it and realized what Matt was
doing before this... Matt smiled trying to be courteous.

"Just forget it man... its over with and like I said we are both guys
and..." his voice trailed off before he finished saying it.

They sat there saying very little for the next thirty minutes or
so. Finally Ryan got up.

"Thanks for everything Matt I think its time to go back now its late I am
tired and Todd should have calmed down some."

"Good luck and hurry back we don't know how safe it is out there."

Matt wanted to say more but this wasn't the time to think about scolding
Ryan about going outside at night alone.

"Yeah its fine I will hurry back to the room it's too cold out to go slow."

Ryan meaning I know I could have gotten in trouble but thanks for the
advice. He opened the door and turned to Matt.

"Maybe someday I can talk about this but right now I can't. Thanks."

He didn't wait for a reply he walked out shutting the door behind. Matt
thought to himself... whatever is wrong can't be good but I guess
eventually they will work it out. Ryan walked back to his room and turned
the knob. It was locked. He banged on the door.

"Todd let me in!" he yelled out.

Inside Todd had fallen asleep and hadn't heard the bangs yet. Ryan banged
again even harder.

"TODD!"

Still nothing... the only thing that Ryan had accomplished so far was to
get Travis' attention who was sitting in his car some distance away

pulled the door open and went inside shutting the door and heading back to
the big bed in the rear of the RV. He pulled the covers back. It was cold
inside but not close to the chill of outside. He got under the covers and
lay there thinking about everything. Eventually he fell asleep. The rest of
the night was quiet for everyone. Travis decided not to make an attempt at
getting to Mike this time bowing to his thoughts about fucking him good

running and the heat on.

Morning came and the alarm in Bryan and Kate room started to blare loudly

to get up and get ready to head for their final destination. What did today
