Subject: Chapter 67 of Tunnel

Don't get too used to seeing this many chapters so close together... I am
striving to keep the storyline flowing but it takes a lot of work.... (NOT
COMPLANING) but it just so happens I finished Chapter 67 before Chapter 2
of BT so it is easy to sent both up quickly. I am not gonna bitch about

Chapter 67.			"Prelude to the Journey."



It was clear now that tomorrow couldn't come quick enough for some of us
and for others it might be the beginning of something new or the end of
something old. I was scared as I opened the door to my bedroom and walked
in. Scared of the unknown and scared that this trip might not be the right
thing to do. I wanted it and I think deep down I needed it but did they

He parked and we got out at his house.

"I hope you don't mind but I want to go inside my house for a minute."

"No I don't mind at all."

He headed inside and we waited outside. I wasn't worrying about anyone
being there so we decided to let him go in alone.

"So are you excited at all Jon?"

"I guess a little. Its better then being home all the time."

"Yeah I know that's why I wanted to go."

"But you always go places. To the farm and store and so on I never get to
go far."

"Okay then next time I go shopping you can come and help me with the food."

"That isn't what I meant."

"I know."

I laughed. We talked for a little bit and then out of no where we heard Ben
scream out and I thought he was being attacked. I pulled out my gun and ran
for the door. by the time we got there he was at the door holding a piece
of paper with a look of shock on his face.

"ARE YOU OKAY?" I screamed out to him as he stood a few feet in front of
me.

"YEAH!!! I couldn't be better!"

He had a look on his face I never saw before on him. He was happy as far as
I could tell.

"What is going on Ben?"

He handed me the note. I read it with Jon looking over my shoulder. It
said...

Benjamin,

I hope you get this someday soon I am okay and I was here in early November
looking to see if anyone was alive. I am sooooo glad you are living and I
can't wait to find or see you. I know it doesn't make much sense but I
passed his huge mall on the way here and decided to head back there since I
liked what I saw. It is in Minnesota. I know its not close but it is what I
want for now. I will be living in that mall for now in hope that you will
get this and find me. I love you so much little brother. Please come
quickly when you find this. Love, Bryan.

After I finished reading it I looked at him and he smiled and gave me this
huge hug, suddenly he was more open and happy.

"He is alive Tommy! MY brother is alive!!!"

I smiled at him.

"Yeah I see and he is where we are going."

"Huh?" The both of them said.

"Didn't you read this? He is at a huge mall in Minnesota. That has to be
the mall we are going to."

"No way! Are you serious?"

"I'm not 100% sure but how many big malls are there in Minneapolis?"

"I sure hope you are right. I miss him sooooo much and..."

He got all quiet and he turned away as a tear ran down his cheek. I put my
hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle squeeze.

"If he is there we will find him I promise Ben!"

He looked at me as he wiped his face and smiled.

"See I knew something was different Tommy I just couldn't figure it
out. Bryan took my fathers truck. I knew something was off but now it hit
me. why I stopped when we pulled up!"

"Yeah I guess so. Good call!"

"Well as much as I hate to I have to rush us we have to get back so lets go
down and look at that RV Ben."

"Oh... right sorry I kinda got sidetracked."

He went and shut his front door and we got in. He took the note with
him. He started the vehicle and headed down the road where the RV was. Sure
enough straight in front of us was this massive Bus type of RV. We drove
slowly past it and it was the size of a bus with sides that looked like
they popped out and so on. he parked and we got out and ran over to it.

"WOW this thing is huge I said. How do we get in it Ben?"

 "He used to just pull on the door and it opened."

I went over and tugged hard and sure enough it opened.

"Now all we need are the keys." I added.

I walked in and looked at the drivers seat and the keys were in the
ignition.

"How nice he left them here for me." I said.

Jon was behind me and he laughed.

"Yeah Tommy I am sure he planned that just this way."

I turned and looked back and it looked like it didn't end. It was
amazing. There were two swivel chairs up front and a lounge chair right
behind the passengers seat. Behind the drivers seat was a small sofa that
would hold three easily. Then after that was the table that had room for
three on either side of it. I think we can fit everyone easily. Across from
the dining table was a kitchen that was loaded with everything from a
refrigerator to a sink and pantry. We could easily live in here in an
emergency without problems. There were written directions on the wall from
the owner on how to start the generator, clean out the toilet and fill all
the water tanks. It was almost too easy. Moving back after the table was a
small bathroom with a small stand up shower in it. Finally there was a
closed door and I opened it to see a huge ass bed on the left and a dresser
and TV on the right side. it was amazing. Even thought it would be a little
tight all the guys will fit in here and some can just sit on the bed. I
turned to Ben and Jon.

"This might work it sure is huge. We can put the coolers in the small room
across from the shower and everyone will just have to deal with the privacy
issue if you want to use the bathroom."

They agreed and we went out and looked over the outside. There was plenty
of storage compartments on the outside most of his stuff was in it but we
went through it quickly and pulled out what we didn't want. He had lots of
batteries and a few flashlights and so on. It was packed and it seemed to
be ready for him to go away from how it looked. When we get back we can
load up the fridge with milk and water and leave the coolers for soda and
anything else. We walked to the back and the truck was already attached
which even made it better yet. We checked out the truck and he had it
loaded and I believe he was about to leave when the comet hit. Again we
pulled out most of his stuff and then looked in the back of it and found a
bunch more stuff packed away. Blankets and clothes and so on. Finally on
the other side was a generator that looked big enough to run a small
town. On the roof were two a/c units but we wouldn't need them right now
since the air was cool enough and in some shady spots there was still
snow. We looked a little more and I was satisfied with everything so I
looked at them and we were ready to go. After we were ready to go I got in
and turned the key. It started right up and ran great. The dash read
different with a bunch of dials and meters on it.

"Jon see if there is a book in that compartment over there."

I said to him since he was sitting in the passengers seat all comfy. He
reached out and opened the door and pulled out a huge book with a picture
of this RV on the cover. He opened it and began looking at the information
inside.

"Tommy this book says this is a deluxe model and runs on regular gas and
has two tanks. One is 100 gallons and the other is 50 gallons and is for
back up and the generator. So you can use it for either and the switch is
located in front of you some place."

I looked around and found it on the side it says tank 1 and tank 2 on
it. the RV was running and both tanks were full. That is great.

"Great Jon. Anything else interesting in there?"

"Not really just talks about the a/c and heat units and then it goes into
detail about the bathroom, generator and all the other things. It says the
generator can run on the fuel for 200 hours if the tank is full. I think
that is a long time. It says without any strain it can easily run for eight
days in here."

"That is awesome Jon."

"Just a bunch of info if you need it but nothing else stands out so
far. I'll read it on the way home and I guess you can stop at your gas
station and fill up the RV and the truck behind it unless he already did
that when we get home and get the others."

I go up and went to the side door and yelled out to Ben. He was in his
vehicle and ready. I gave him the thumbs up and he took off slowly. I
followed slowly myself getting used to driving something so huge.

"TJ the only other thing it says is to be very careful around low buildings
and overpasses until you are sure of the height of everything."

"Yeah that is a good point, the last thing I want is to destroy this
thing."

"Well at least there aren't many underpasses on the way home and nothing
low going up our hill."

"Yeah I know I guess I will park this thing on the street I don't feel like
pulling into the driveway and getting stuck."

"Good idea." Jon said.

With that we were off and it seemed to handle nicely. I looked in the
mirror and the attached truck was coming with us just fine as I took
off. It was new to me but it followed along without a problem. I followed
Ben as I took my time and checked all my surroundings to make sure I was
doing okay. After the first few miles it got easier as I settled into the
seat and got a little more relaxed.  I tooted the horn and found out I had
two horns one on the wheel and a wire hanging down that was an air
horn. Pretty neat! I tried out the brakes and they were air too and it was
pretty cool to hear the hiss as I stopped. Ben was now behind me as he let
me pass him before so I could do what I wanted to. We worked that out
before we left. I just needed him to get to the main road since this was a
little too much to remember everything. We drove on and it was apparent
that the trip was going to be more then what I thought with such a huge bus
to drive. We will probably take a day now to get there since I really
shouldn't go much more then 70 mph in this thing. Guess I will judge as we
go along. About thirty minutes later I was at the bottom of the hill and
about to start climbing. The bus went with some push although slowly at
first we started to climb the hill. There appeared to be plenty of power as
I pushed on the pedal we started to move quicker. By the time I hit the top
of the road we were doing 25 mph easy. I pulled up in front of the house
and the clock read 7:05 and everyone ran out to join us at the bottom of
the driveway. As I opened the door and we got out I watched Ben drive up
the driveway and park and then come down too. The boys all seemed excited
to see our new toy. They were going on and out and looking at all the rooms
and in the fridge and so on. I just stood there answering what I could as
they all gave it a look see. Finally they all got their fill of the new bus
and we were ready to get down to business.

"Okay guys I need everyone's attention."

They were all outside and now looking at me as I stood in the doorway of
the bus above everyone.

"Okay everyone look this is going to be fun but we all have to work
together. I need all of you to go get the things out of both the trucks and
bring them here so we can put them in storage. Then take what you want with
you and bring it inside the bus. The quicker we do this the faster we
leave. Also no one picks a seat unless you can do it without fighting. Now
get your stuff from where it is and bring it to me.

"Kyle make sure mine gets here too please."

"Sure bro I will get it."

"Thanks, how did it all go?"

"Fine no one argued with me at all and Shawn helped me get everyone
together."

"That's great so what do you think of the bus?"

 "Freakin thing is huge we should all fit fine I hope."

"Yeah me too but we have that truck too if things get bad or anyone acts up
they can go sit back there alone."

"Good idea that might work if anyone gets out of hand. The bathroom is
pretty neat too."

"Yeah I know thanks for reminding me I have to tell them no one shits in
the bus unless its an emergency we don't need to smell that."

He laughed.

"Yeah I got you there. I'm gonna go get the stuff be right back."

As he took off some of the others started to come back. I pointed to the
large storage bins and told them to take what they wanted before putting
their stuff away. In no more then ten minutes everyone had cooperated and
everything was packed away into the two massive storage bins under the
bus. We had one more but we didn't need it. the coolers were brought on the
bus and then I kinda got everyone a seat. A few were left without but there
was still the entire bed if you didn't mind being all the way in the
rear. Eventually everyone did fit and Kyle was up with me for now and Shawn
grabbed a folding chair and sat between us. There were four folding chairs
and that was how everyone eventually got a good seat. Jon took the recliner
behind Kyle and Ben, Joey and Billy were on the small sofa. Zack, Jordy,
Danny, Christian, Luke and DJ were sitting at the kitchen table even though
it was a little crowded they just fit. It was a really huge space. Jeremy
took a folding chair and put it in an open space. With the four folding
chairs everyone fit. DJ got up and grabbed a chair so he could spread his
big body out without feeling squashed. That left five comfortably at the
table and no one in the bedroom. I checked and everyone seemed okay and
after the refrigerator was filled and the door was shut we were ready. Kyle
had the map and we were off as I started the bus.

"Kyle did you check the house and make sure everything is secure?"

"Twice TJ. Shawn said. He went over everything and made sure we were all
set while we waited for you."

"Thanks cutie."

"If you guys get warm or something the side windows open some and nobody
sticks any body parts out unless its an emergency. Finally no one takes a
dump in that bathroom!! If you have to pee its fine but if you need to crap
tell me and we will find a place. The closet over there has about ten rolls
of toilet paper in it so we will be fine."

I sat down and they got ready as I put the bus into drive and we took
off. They cheered as I went to the end of the road. I was gonna go down the
back way to play it safe since I didn't feel like turning it around any
where. We made it to the bottom of the hill easily and were on the parkway
quickly. The bus hit 70 mph without blinking and with open road ahead and
the occasional stalled car in the way we were cruising on our way to
Minneapolis. We hit the road at 8:15 and had plenty of time to do our
thing. Now only questions lie ahead as we travel and look for food, fuel
and fun.
