Subject: Life Goes On - David and Chad #22

STANDARD DISCLAIMER: This is the continuation of David's story. One of two
boys loving each other. So the same disclaimer applies. If you can't
handle that, or it's illegal to read this in your area, or you're underage,
then now is the time to leave. If you continue reading after that
admonishment, Nifty and I aren't responsible.

There could also be incidents of unprotected sex. As always, I don't
condone this practice - especially in this day and age.

Well, I'm back from my trip. A welcome break from the humdrum. THANKS to
all those who were thinking about Kel on the 17th. Told y'all he liked to
have the last word. It means a lot.

David's last weekend home. <sigh> :-)

FROM CHAPTER 21

David said his goodbyes as they walked onto the porch and watched as they
pulled out of the parking lot. He returned their wave and went back
inside. He picked up the two notes and read them. The first was from his
sister apologizing for the evening and asking him to call her the next
evening. No sweat. The second was in Chad's handwriting saying basically
the same thing. The "L, Chad" at the end made him smile again. He tossed
his sister's note back onto the table and refolded Chad's, carrying it into
the bedroom after re- locking the door and turning off the lights.

Once again, he got ready for bed, this time in a better frame of mind, and
slipped Chad's note into his footlocker with the other two. He turned off
the bedside lamp and slipped under the blankets again. Mentally exhausted,
he was soon asleep.

LIFE GOES ON - DAVID AND CHAD #22 - Dinner Date

He suffered through Friday's going away party at work. Well, not really
suffered, he just didn't like a big deal being made over him leaving. It
was almost like a half-day, definitely no work was accomplished from one
o'clock on. He thought it was nice they had taken the time and energy, and
the field notebook and set of cruising prisms were a nice gift. Finally it
was time to shake hands, give his thanks and say his farewells. He cleared
off his desk, and carried the box out to the car. Giving a final wave to
his co-workers, he pulled out of the parking lot for the last time that
summer.

The drive home was almost automatic now, giving him a chance to think back
over the summer. All told, it was pretty good. Even the feelings he had
last night were more of a bad dream than anything else. In a way, he sort
of dreaded this weekend. "Damn, Chad, gonna miss you," he whispered to
himself. He had actually entertained the thought of switching to a local
college so he could stay in the area, but reluctantly admitted it wasn't a
good idea. This 'being an adult' stuff was a pain sometimes.

"Get used to it," he mumbled to himself as he pulled into his parking
space. He got his mail, he'd have to remember to change his address on
Monday, and entered the apartment. Funny, he thought, it's got a different
atmosphere. Almost like he was a guest, instead of being home. He
shrugged and changed into somewhat dressy casual clothes. He had just
finished combing his hair when he heard Chad's knock. He smiled, and went
to the door, seeing Chad beginning to slip his key into the lock.

"Hey kiddo," he grinned, opening the door. "You clean up pretty good."

Chad was dressed in khakis and a polo shirt per David's direction. "So why
did I have to dress up?" he asked, immediately moving to give David a hug.

"We're going to dinner," David replied, wrapping his arms around his blond
boyfriend.

"Oh," Chad answered in a disappointed tone. "I thought we were gonna stay
here."

David laughed, briefly tightening his arms. "We have plenty of time, just
thought I'd take ya out, that's all."

"Oh, okay," Chad responded, releasing his grip around David's waist.

"Ready to rock?"

"Yeah, I guess."

As they were pulling out of the parking lot, Chad slid a little closer to
David, still remaining on the passenger's side, and took David's hand.
David glanced over at him, raising his eyebrows and smiling. He gave the
teen's hand a brief squeeze and returned his attention to the road. It was
a quiet drive to the restaurant, the only sound coming from the tape deck.
Every so often, Chad would tighten his grip on David's hand, bringing a
smile to the older youth's face.

Chad raised his eyebrows when they pulled into the restaurant parking lot.
"We're eating here?"

"Yeah, sorry to say it's not McDonald's," David chuckled.

"Cool, I like this place."

"Well, good," David replied, releasing Chad's hand and getting out of the
car. They remained close, almost rubbing arms on their walk to the
entrance.

"This is nice," Chad said, looking around the restaurant's foyer.

"Just sort of a repayment for putting up with me for the last couple of
years, kiddo."

Chad smiled and butted his hip against David's. The hostess led them to
their seats, and notified them their waitress would be there shortly. The
restaurant was sparsely occupied at this time of day, the dinner rush
wouldn't be for an hour or two yet, and David smiled as the teen looked
around the dining area. "This is nice."

"Already said that," David laughed. "Oww, quit kicking me. This is a
classy place."

Chad snickered. "Then quit teasing."

"Okay, I give up," David relented as their waitress approached. He saw her
look at Chad, then do a double-take and start smiling.

"Hey Chad," she greeted the teen, who blushed slightly.

"Hi Mary," he mumbled.

As she handed them their menus, and took their drink order she continued to
chat with a somewhat embarrassed Chad. "Ready for school?"

"Not really."

"Me either, so who's this?"

"Umm, just a friend," Chad replied.

"Oh, well hi."

"Hi Mary, so how do you know the kid here?" David smiled.

"We're in the same class. And we went together last year."

"Ohhhh," David said, smiling. "So you're the one that he talked about?"
He grimaced as Chad's shoe met his shin."

"I guess," she smiled. Then her smile faded a little, "But we broke up."
She turned once again to Chad. "So are you going with anyone?"

Chad flushed even more. Not looking directly at her, he replied, "Yeah."

"Oh. Well, I'll be back with your drinks and to take your order."

"Thanks, Mary," David smiled as she turned to leave. When she was gone,
David stared at Chad until he raised his eyes. "She's pretty, kiddo."

"I guess," Chad mumbled.

"Hey, it's a small town, kiddo. We're bound to see someone we know. Don't
let it bother ya."

"I guess."

"Hey, lighten up," David smiled. "This is supposed to be fun."

A small smile crossed Chad's face, "Thanks for not teasing me."

"Well, I have a low threshold of pain," David chuckled. "What looks good
to you?"

When Mary returned with their drinks, they placed their order. She was
still obviously infatuated with Chad and took every opportunity to engage
in small talk with the embarrassed teenager. When their meal finally
arrived, and Mary was gone, Chad heaved a sigh of relief. David laughed
and shook his head as they dug into their meal. They exchanged small talk
over their plates, but there was still an undercurrent of something else.

Finished, David waved Mary over and asked for the check. "No dessert?" she
asked, a little disappointment evident in her voice.

"Don't think so, we've got some other stuff to do, but thanks."

"Well, Chad, I guess I'll see you in school?"

Chad nodded silently, and gave her a small smile. She patted the teen on
the shoulder and handed the check to David, then left. "Glad that's over,"
Chad sighed. David shook his head and left enough to cover the meal and
tip on the table, and they rose to leave. Mary gave them a small wave from
another table as they passed, which Chad pretended he didn't see. David
returned the wave and followed a relieved Chad out of the restaurant.

On the way back to the apartment, Chad once again took David's hand. Then
he turned slightly in his seat and said, "Thanks for dinner. It was nice."

"No sweat, kiddo. Sorry for the weirdness."

Chad shrugged, then smiled. "Well, I AM going with someone else."

David laughed and squeezed Chad's hand. "Guess ya are, huh?"

"We going back now?"

David couldn't resist. "Figured we'd go see a movie or something."
Catching Chad's expression out of the corner of his eye, he continued.
"Unless you don't want to."

"Let's go back."

"Okay kiddo, your wish is my desire," David teased.

"Cool."

The undercurrent was still there. David could almost see it. He had tried
to lighten the mood a little, but it obviously wasn't working. As they
entered the apartment again, he took Chad's hand, pulling him back. He put
his hands on Chad's shoulders, and just looked into his face. "What's
wrong?"

Chad just shook his head and said, "I need to change."

"Well, you know where everything is. I'm gonna lock up and brush my
teeth."

The blond boy nodded and walked into the bedroom as David performed his
duties. When David walked into the bedroom, Chad was dressed in shorts and
a t-shirt, sitting on the bed. He watched as David changed into more
comfortable clothes. Finished, David held out his hand to his boyfriend,
who grabbed it and stood up. Without a word, Chad left to brush his teeth
as David moved to the living room, turning on the stereo and sitting on the
sofa. He turned as Chad entered the room and smiled. "C'mere, kiddo."

Chad gave him a wan smile as he sat beside David, leaning against his side.
David wrapped his arm around Chad's waist, and squeezed gently. Chad
rested his head on David's shoulder and shifted until he was almost on
David's lap. They sat silently for a few minutes in this position. David
leaned his cheek against Chad's head and gave another brief squeeze.
"It'll be okay, Chad."

"I don't want you to go," Chad whispered. David gave another squeeze and
remained silent. "You have to, I know, but I don't want you to." David
rubbed his cheek on Chad's hair, still quiet. Then Chad sniffed slightly.
"You gonna break up with me?"

"Why would I do something stupid like that?" David asked quietly. He felt
Chad shrug. "I told you this was all up to you, kiddo."

"I know," Chad whispered.

David shifted until he could look directly at Chad. He reached out and put
his fingers under Chad's chin, raising the boy's face to look into his
eyes. Noticing the tears forming, David smiled gently and rubbed his thumb
across Chad's chin. "I'd have to be brain dead to break up with you,
kiddo."

"I don't want to talk about this," Chad stated, eyes brimming.

"Hey, hey," David said quietly, gently smiling into Chad's eyes as the
tears silently started to run. He wrapped the boy in his arms, pulling him
against his shoulder. "It'll be okay." He held the teen as the silent
tears continued, whispering soothing sounds into his ear. "It'll be fine
Chad, really, I love you a lot." Chad's arms tightened almost painfully
around David's waist as the teen continued to quietly vent his emotions.
He ran his hands slowly up and down Chad's back as the tears slowly faded.
As he held the boy, Chad leaned more heavily against him, his breathing
slowing and deepening. "Chad?" he whispered. No response. "Chad?" The
teen's breathing was deep and regular. David smiled as his boyfriend slept
on his shoulder. He held him until it began to get uncomfortable, then
gently moved so Chad's head was resting on his thigh. Chad mumbled a
little and shifted until he was stretched out on the sofa.

David ran his fingers through Chad's hair, across his face, then rested his
hand on Chad's stomach. He continued to look into the sleeping visage of
his boyfriend. After almost thirty minutes, he saw Chad's eyebrows furrow
and his eyes come open slightly. "Hey, kiddo," he said softly.

"Why did you let me go to sleep?" Chad griped.

"Obviously you needed it. And I like watching you."

"I haven't been able to sleep too good," Chad admitted, stretching and
wrapping an arm around David's waist.

"A lot on your mind?"

"Duh," Chad scoffed.

"Me too." David continued looking down at his boyfriend, his hand
absentmindedly rubbing in small circles on Chad's stomach. "I'm really
gonna miss you, kiddo."

"You'd better," Chad smiled softly.

"No doubt about it."

Chad snuggled as closely as he could given his position. "Know why I
couldn't sleep?"

"Looks like you did just fine," David teased.

Ignoring the tease, Chad continued. "I really thought you were going to
break up. Then with dinner and not teasing me the way you normally do, I
started to get worried. I sorta thought you were just being nice to me."

"Well, kiddo, the reason I haven't really teased you is that I really don't
think we have time for that, do you?" Chad shrugged. "I wanted to spend
as much time with you as I could before I left."

Chad smiled, "Then I fall asleep."

David chuckled. "Well, growing boys need their rest." Chad grinned and
grasped the hand rubbing his stomach, intertwining his fingers with
David's. Then he moved both hands until they were resting over his crotch.
David could feel the hard ridge of Chad's erection under the shorts as Chad
silently rubbed their hands over it. "Told ya," David joked. Chad smiled
and closed his eyes, allowing David to take over the hand motion. His eyes
popped open as David jerked at the knock on the door. "Fuck!" he
exclaimed. "What the hell?"

Chad was almost in a panic, writhing to get off of David's lap. "Who is
it?"

"Take it easy, kiddo," David tried to soothe his boyfriend, who was almost
violently struggling to get up. "Listen, just go into the bedroom and
close the door. I'll see who it is, okay?"

Chad nodded, eyes wide, then was quietly trotting to the bedroom. David
looked around the apartment, making sure everything was in order and got
up, walking to the kitchen. He paused at the bedroom door and whispered,
"Just take it easy, kiddo." Then he proceeded to the kitchen, flipping on
the light.

"Lynn, what the hell are you doing here?" he asked, disgruntled.

"You were supposed to call me tonight," she answered.

"Oh shit, that's right," he said. "Sorry."

"Can I come in?"

"Uhhh, well." David thought quickly. He didn't want to raise any
suspicions, his family was a little on edge right now. Then he said a
little louder, "Sure Lynn, c'mon in. Can't stay long because I'm going out
later."

Lynn shot him a questioning glance at the change in volume, then shrugged,
brushing by him and walking to the living room. David closed the door and
followed her closely until she was sitting on the sofa. He walked over to
the stereo, turning it up slightly.

"What's going on, Dave?"

"What do you mean?"

"With you."

"Not much, just relaxing a little before I go out."

"That's not what I mean."

"What do you mean, then?" David asked sharply.

"I mean, you're acting all weird."

"What else is new?" David asked, forcing a laugh.

Lynn stared at him, then her posture relaxed a little. "Guess you're
right," she admitted.

"Always am," David replied. "I'm older than you. So what brings you
here?"

"Well, I wanted to apologize for last night."

"Why? You didn't do anything wrong."

"I know, but, well...we were sorta worried when you left."

David shrugged. "No need to worry, I'm okay. Sorta used to it, ya know?"

"I guess," Lynn replied, unconvinced.

"Lynn, I'm fine," David said, standing up and turning around. "All in one
piece, no major wounds, no broken bones. I'm fine." He pointedly glanced
at the clock.

"Uh huh."

"Seriously Lynn, I went over there last night expecting the worse. And it
happened, not like it was a real big surprise or anything. I'm just sorry
it didn't work."

"Well, you know Dad wasn't serious when he said you couldn't stay there?"

"Sounded real serious to me, Lynn."

"Well, he and Mom, yelled at each other for a while after you left." Then
she snickered. "Mom even took his truck keys so he couldn't leave, and I
stood in front of the door."

David raised his eyebrows. "Oh really?"

"Dave, you know how Dad gets. He gets mad and just shoots off at the
mouth. He really doesn't mean it."

"Verbal vomit, you mean?"

Lynn chuckled at his choice of words. "Yeah, nice way to put it, bro."

David became serious. "Well, that's what it is Lynn. I'm just so tired of
it."

"Well, he changed his mind, Dave. We sort of convinced him he was being
stupid."

"Hmmmm, Dad wrong? I doubt he feels that way."

"He does," Lynn stated. "And he's sorry."

"Well, Lynn," replied David, once again looking at the clock. "He knows
how to use a phone."

"Yeah, but..."

"Yeah, but, nothing. If he's sorry, like you say, he can lower himself to
tell me."

"David, you know..."

"Yes, I do," David replied. "It'll never happen. In that case, we've got
nothing to talk about. He's all the time talking about being a man. It's
his fucking turn."

"No need to get all pissy, Dave."

David sighed, lowering his voice. "Look, I'm not getting pissy. Just
telling you the way I feel. That's all."

"You mean you're gonna let it go?"

"Yep, I tried. That's all I can do. The ball's in his court. I'm done.
I honestly appreciate what you're trying to do, but it's not gonna happen
this time. I'm tired of getting kicked around."

"Well, he IS sorry," Lynn attempted again.

"Whatever," David replied, then looked at the clock. "I hate to do this,
but it's almost time for me to leave."

"Okay, Dave. Are we okay?" Lynn asked as she stood up to leave.

David stood and hugged her briefly. "We're fine, sis. Sorry I didn't
call."

"That's okay, Dave. Guess I understand."

David smiled and reiterated, "I'm okay, sis. No need to worry. I'm a big
boy."

"Whatever you say," Lynn replied, then grinned. "But I can still take ya."

"I'll tell Mom," David whined, laughing as they walked toward the kitchen.
David almost had a heart attack when Lynn paused at the bedroom door and
knocked.

"Hi, whoever's in there." Then she continued into the kitchen. Before she
left, she turned and grinned at David's dumbfounded expression. "Bro, you
can't fool me. You're not even dressed to go out, and your hair's all
messy. Sorry to interrupt."

"I, uh..."

"Don't worry, David. Your reaction is all the proof I need." Then she
lowered her voice. "I hope she's nice." All David could do was nod, still
shocked. Lynn gave him a brief kiss on the cheek. "See ya Monday."

David swallowed audibly, "Yeah, see ya."

Lynn grinned again, and pulled the door shut behind her. David watched as
she got in her car and returned her wave as she pulled out of the parking
lot. He leaned his head against the door, eyes closed.

"You okay?" Chad whispered from the hallway.

David turned to face him. "I think so." Then he turned off the kitchen
light, and walked toward Chad with a rueful smile. "That was kinda close."

Chad chuckled, "I almost pissed myself when she knocked on the bedroom
door."

"Oh, man, " David moaned. "Just be glad she didn't want to meet my
'date.'"

"How come you let her in?"

David leaned against the door jamb. "I didn't want her to get suspicious.
Especially after last night."

"Oh, okay, guess that makes sense. So anyway, what happened last night
anyway?"

David briefly filled Chad in on his family visit as they returned to the
sofa. As they settled back onto the cushions, David sighed. "Man, that
was too close."

"Well, it was an adventure," Chad laughed.

David looked into Chad's grinning face. Then he grinned himself. "Get
over here."

Chad laughed and hopped off the sofa. "Gotta catch me first."

David sighed and closed his eyes. "I'm too tuckered." He watched through
slitted eyes as Chad walked over to stand in front of him. Seeing the
perfect opportunity, he quickly reached out and grabbed Chad's hips,
pulling him onto his lap. "Gotcha," he grinned into Chad's surprised face.

"No fair," Chad complained, trying to get out of David's embrace.

"Sure it is," David laughed.

"No it's not." Then he was writhing as David's fingers dug into his ribs.
"Stop it."

"Is it fair?" David teased.

"Yes...okay...it's fair," Chad gasped. Then he relaxed as David quit
tickling. He waited until David relaxed his arms even more, then managed
to jump back up and run toward the bedroom. "Wait," he ordered, as David
rose off the sofa to chase him.

David raised his eyebrows and stopped in his tracks. "Why?"

"Cos I said so," Chad laughed, then with a small smile, lifted his shirt
over his head. "Now wait," he said over his shoulder, then closed the
bedroom door. A few minutes later, David heard Chad's low voice telling
him it was okay. He turned off the stereo and the light, made sure the
door was locked, and walked to the closed door of the bedroom. He turned
the knob and eased open the door to see Chad's grinning face in the dim
light. He had the blankets pulled up to his neck, and his arms at his
sides on top of the bedclothes. His position stretched the blankets enough
that David could see the teen's erection tenting the cloth.

"You know, you should really pick up your dirty clothes," David smiled,
nodding at Chad's discarded shorts. Chad shrugged, then raised his arms.
David's smile turned thoughtful as he began to strip. "Sex maniac," he
whispered as he slowly walked naked and erect to the other side of the bed.

Chad nodded, and crooked his finger. "Love you."

"Me too," David answered quietly, flipping back the blankets.
