STANDARD DISCLAIMER: This is the continuation of David's story. One of two
boys loving each other. So the same disclaimer applies. If you can't
handle that, or it's illegal to read this in your area, or you're underage,
then now is the time to leave. If you continue reading after that
admonishment, Nifty and I aren't responsible.

There could also be incidents of unprotected sex. As always, I don't
condone this practice - especially in this day and age.

Okay folks, I think I've made ya aware that there are some huge things
going on in Fuppie's life at the moment. For all of those who have emailed
me in the last few weeks, I apologize for not answering promptly. In the
next few days, hopefully, I'll be able to reply. Believe me, I'm not
ignoring anyone - just extremely busy.

FROM CHAPTER 40

"Mmmmkay," Chad agreed, then slowly stood and began to strip. David
watched his boyfriend shed his shirt and pants, then climb into bed. David
stood up and knelt down next to the head of Chad's bed. He ran his fingers
through Chad's hair, eliciting a small smile. "Night, kiddo. Love you a
lot."

"Me too," Chad replied.

David leaned over and planted a kiss on Chad's forehead, but the teen had
slipped back into slumber. David smiled, ran the back of his hand down
Chad's cheek and left for his own bed.

LIFE GOES ON - DAVID AND CHAD #41 - More Presents

There were eyes staring at him. As he rose to semi-wakefulness, David was
aware of a warm body next to him. He cracked an eyelid open slightly and
was faced with Chad's grinning visage.

"Wha?" David grunted quietly.

Chad chuckled. "Hi."

"Uh, hi. Ummm, thought you were asleep."

"I was, but had to go to the bathroom, so I thought I'd visit ya."

"Oh, uh, what time is it?" David asked sleepily.

"About three."

David sighed. "We really have to do something about your mornings."

Chad chuckled again, then laid his head on David's chest, draping an arm
over his stomach. He briefly hugged David, then said, "I know we can't do
anything, but just thought I'd come stay with you for a while."

David slid his arm across the teen's back. "Thanks." He slowly rubbed
Chad's warm back as they lay together for a few minutes. Chad sighed and
snuggled closer.

"Haven't had one of those in a while," Chad whispered.

"Yeah, I know. Haven't had much of a chance to give one either."

"I miss you," Chad mumbled into his chest.

David was slowly slipping back into slumber. "Me too, kiddo," he whispered
as his motions became slower on the teen's back.

"You falling asleep again?"

"Mmmmhmmm, you make a good blanket."

"Okay, I'll go back to bed," Chad laughed.

"Wish you could stay."

"You're the one that made the rule," Chad replied, tightening his arm
across David's stomach.

"People do stupid things," David smiled.

Chad pushed himself up on his elbow and looked down into David's half-open
eye. "Night, Dave."

"Night, kiddo, sweet dreams."

"No sweat," Chad answered, rolling to sit on the edge of the sofa bed. He
turned to give David a kiss on the cheek, then walked back upstairs. David
smiled tiredly and went back to sleep.

The smell of bacon roused him the next morning. He slid on a t-shirt and
padded barefoot to the kitchen. Karen was in the midst of preparing
breakfast and grinned at him as he entered.

"Sleep well?"

"Yeah, pretty good. Man, that smells great."

Karen laughed and shook her head. "Doesn't take a scientist to fix a good
meal."

"Yeah, guess not. So Chad's party is like today?"

"Yes, friends and family. You don't have to stay if you don't want to.
It's kind of boring," she admitted.

David grinned. "Well, I'll double check with the kid, but I should do some
visiting while I'm home."

"Might be a good idea. Especially if your family knows you're home."

"Yeah, keep peace in the ranks," David laughed, snagging a piece of bacon
out of the pan.

Karen slipped the bacon into the warm oven, and said, "Might want to go
upstairs and wake the monster. Matt's at work until about eleven, so it's
just us."

"Cool, be right back." David walked upstairs to Chad's door. He opened it
quietly, not wanting to disturb the teen, who was rolled away on his side.
He stealthily crept to the bedside, and was just reaching for Chad's
shoulder, when the teen abruptly rolled over onto his back and grabbed his
arm. "Shit!" David exclaimed, startled, as Chad yanked him down onto the
bed.

The teen was laughing at David's surprise as the older boy landed on his
stomach. "Got ya," Chad crowed.

"Jeeez, Chad, scared me to death. If I was a cat, I'd be dead."

"Thought you were gonna scare me huh?"

David jabbed his fingers into Chad's ribs, making him writhe underneath the
blankets. "I wasn't gonna scare ya," David said innocently. His grin
belied his tone of voice.

"Yeah, right. Now get off, I gotta leave a leak." David bounced lightly
on Chad's stomach, getting a punch on the shoulder. "Get off, seriously,
please?"

David sighed dramatically, and rolled off Chad and sat on the foot of the
bed as the teen left the room. David smiled as he watched Chad's briefclad
butt walk away. He was re- entering the room as Karen called that
breakfast was ready. Chad slipped into a pair of jeans and t-shirt, then
grinned at David. "Race ya," he said, then was gone.

David chuckled and followed Chad downstairs, sitting across from his
boyfriend at the table. After breakfast, David volunteered to do the
dishes. "I'll help," Chad said. Karen laid her hand over her chest.

"Oh my goodness," she grinned, "you're actually going to help? That's a
first."

"Supervise," Chad laughed.

Karen laughed and stood up, walking into the living room shaking her head.
As the two were washing and drying dishes, David informed Chad of his plans
for the day. Chad was a little disappointed, but David solved the problem
by saying, "Chill man, I haven't given you the rest of your present yet."

"There's more?"

"Yep."

Chad dried his hands and asked, "Wanna go for a walk?"

"Better hadn't," David answered. "You have a party to prepare for, and I
need to get some family stuff done."

Once again, a disappointed expression settled on the teen's face. "But I
thought...,"

David interrupted him by holding up his hand. "Trust me, okay? I'll be
back about six and we'll celebrate your birthday again."

"Well, okay, I guess. Just thought you might wanna....well, you know."

David slid his arm across Chad's shoulders. "Trust me, kiddo."

"Okay, jeeez." The Chad dropped his voice to a whisper. "I wanted to stay
with you this morning."

"I wanted you to, but well...you know."

"Yeah, this is a pain."

"It'll be worth it," David smiled and tightened his hug slightly.

"If you say so."

"I do. Now no more frowning. You're gonna get lots more stuff today."

Chad's mood brightened. "Yeah, maybe some more tapes and stuff. So what's
the rest of my present?"

David laughed. "Never mind, and THIS time I haven't let anything lay
around so you can figure it out."

"You're just mean."

"Yeah, yeah, mean old man, huh?"

"You said it, I didn't," Chad teased.

David walked to the front door. "Well, kiddo, have a cool day. Hope ya
get lots of stuff. I'll see ya about six or so."

"Okay, sure ya don't wanna tell me what it is?"

"Definitely sure." David gave Chad a quick hug and waved to Karen sitting
in the living room.

"Have a good day, David," she answered his wave.

"I'll try. Enjoy the party."

"Be glad when it's over," she chuckled.

Chad followed David out to his car. Before he started the car, Chad leaned
in the window slightly. "Love you, see ya about six."

"You bet, man. Have fun. And trust me, you're gonna enjoy the rest of my
present."

Chad shrugged. "Dunno how you're gonna do anything, so it must be
something else."

David laughed and shook his head, turning the key. "Trust me, ya goof."

"Have to, I guess."

"Yup." David turned the car around and drove down the driveway, giving
Chad a wave. He pulled into his parents' driveway behind Lynn's car, which
was the only one there. He noticed a quick movement of the living room
curtains as he turned off the car and got out. He tried the door, but it
was locked, so he rang the doorbell. A few seconds later, Lynn opened the
door, smiling briefly at him before turning and walking back into the
living room. David followed her to find her sitting beside Jay on the
sofa.

"Hey guys," David greeted them. Jay was blushing and David wondered why
until he realized he had interrupted something. He engaged in a few
minutes of small talk with Lynn and her boyfriend, then stood up to leave.
"Think I'm gonna go see Nanny since mom's not home. You too be good."

"We will be," Lynn answered.

"No doubt," David grinned, then looked back over his shoulder as he was
passing through the dining room doorway. "Button your shirt right next
time, Jay," he laughed. He watched as Jay looked down at his shirt. "See
ya sis," he laughed.

"Comin' back while you're home?"

"Dunno, don't wanna interrupt anything," David teased.

"Shut up, Dave. I'll tell mom and dad you said hi."

"Thanks, I'll try to make it back, but it's kind of a busy weekend."

"Okay, well, are you gone yet?" Lynn asked, grinning.

"History," David answered, climbing into his car. "Be careful, okay?"

"Yeah, bye."

"See ya." David backed down the driveway and started the trek to his
grandparents'.

"Where's your shadow?" his grandmother asked from the front porch as he got
out of the car.

"It's his birthday. Having a party."

"And why aren't YOU there?" she asked with a slightly miffed tone.

"We had a small one last night. Today is like one for his friends and
stuff."

"I see," she replied as he hugged her in greeting.

"So I thought I'd come see the best cook this side of the Mississippi,"
David grinned.

"I see where this is going now," his grandmother laughed.

David's face broke into an expression of innocence. "Huh?"

She shook her head and ushered him inside. "I guess you're hungry."

"Actually, no, I had breakfast."

"So this is a real social visit?" she grinned.

"Yep."

"Well, in that case, have a seat. Your grandfather is out running around,
you know how he is, can't keep still." David chuckled and sat in the
recliner. "So how is my newest grandson?"

"He's good. Wanted me to say hi."

David's grandmother nodded, then walked back to her bedroom. She returned
with a small wrapped package and handed it to David. "Well, give him this
when you see him later."

Surprised, David took the offered gift. "Nanny, you didn't have to buy him
anything."

"Well, you only turn 16 once, young man. Now, let an old lady have her
fun."

"Somehow, I don't think 'old lady' fits," David smiled.

"It does if I say so."

David laughed. "Well, I'm sure he'll be surprised."

"Good. So what's been going on in your life?" she asked, settling into
another chair.

David filled her in on the latest news from his side of the world as they
sat drinking iced tea. "So that's about it," he finished.

"Well, it sounds like everything is going well, David."

He nodded. "Yeah, not too bad for once."

"Well, good. Everyone deserves a little happiness."

"Yeah, well, seems to be going okay."

"Good for you. I'm sure Mr. Chad has a lot to do with that too."

"Umm, yeah," David stammered slightly, "he's a good kid."

"May be a kid on the outside, but he has an old mind," his grandmother
observed.

"If you say so," David smiled.

"He's a good boy, David. And his family obviously likes you." She
laughed. "I don't know if I would let you stay here when you're home."

David was taken aback, until he saw her barely constrained grin. "Oh yeah,
just give the college boy a hard time."

His grandmother let her grin settle on her face. "How do you say it? It's
my job."

David shook his head. "You're pretty hip for an old lady."

"I've always been hip. You were just too blind to see it."

David rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure."

"Be careful, now. Or you'll never get another cookie."

David laughed again. "Bribes."

They spent the next few hours together. His grandfather arrived after
lunch and David helped him clean the garage, chatting easily with his
normally quiet relative. He thought it was kind of interesting that Pops
talked so much when they were one on one, but was almost a statue when with
his grandmother. He shook his head and chuckled, no sense in asking, it
had been that way since he could remember.

Sweaty and dirty, they finished the task late in the afternoon. His
grandfather looked around the almost immaculate garage and smiled. "Well,
that should please the queen."

David broke into laughter. "The queen?"

"David, I don't have any misunderstandings of who runs this house," his
grandfather chuckled.

"Guess not, probably better that way, huh?"

"Yes, it is. Keeps peace on the home front. You kids need that." His
grandfather visibly caught himself before he said any more.

David smiled warmly at the man. "Thanks Pops."

His grandfather waved with a dismissive gesture. "Never mind, I'm getting
senile."

"Yeah, I can tell," David rolled his eyes as the slid the garage doors
closed behind them. When they walked in the back door, his grandmother
looked them up and down.

"David, why don't you take a shower? I know you have plans tonight."

"See what I mean?" his grandfather muttered, grinning.

David once again shook his head, and headed for the bathroom. Under the
hot spray, the dirt and grimed sluiced down the drain. His clothes were
still a mess, but he could change, and - he grinned to himself - take
another shower when he and Chad got to the cottage. He turned the hot
water completely off, taking a final rinse in the ice cold spray to
eliminate any embarrassment the reaction to his thoughts had caused.
Satisfied that everything appeared normal, he turned off the shower and
dried off. Dressing in his disheveled clothes, sans underwear, he looked
moderately presentable.

"Well, I'd better get back," he said as he walked back out into the
kitchen.

"Don't forget Chad's gift," his grandmother chided.

"I won't, I'm not old yet," David laughed, then dashed into the living room
as his grandmother brandished the knife she was using to cut french fries.
"Sure," he called from safety, "you don't need to threaten me to tell me
I'm not welcome."

A short burst of laughter from his grandfather was followed by Nanny's
entrance into the living room - without the knife. "Tell Mr. Chad that we
wish him a happy birthday."

"I will, he'll be tickled to get another present."

"Good, well, you'd better go, the birthday boy is waiting."

David hugged and kissed his grandmother, climbed in his car and drove back
to the Murray's. By the time he arrived, it was close to six o'clock. He
turned off the car and entered the house to see Chad and his parents in the
living room, the teen's loot spread at his feet.

"Looks like you made out pretty well," David laughed, leaning against the
door jamb.

"We're going to need a bigger house, I think," Matt laughed.

David held out the small wrapped package. "Here's another one, kiddo.
This is from Nanny and Pops."

"Really?" Chad asked, surprised.

"Well, yeah, after all, you're an honorary grandson." David held out the
package as Chad walked over to him. The teen tore off the wrapping paper
and opened the small box inside.

"Wow," he sighed as he pulled the gold chain out of the box. He held it up
for his parents and David to see.

"That's very nice," Karen observed.

"Wow," Chad said again, then held it out to David. "Umm, I can't take
this, it's too much."

David raised his eyebrows. "Well, then YOU need to call Nanny and tell her
that. I'll be a pall-bearer at your funeral." Chad smiled as his parents
laughed. "Really, kiddo, if they didn't want you to have it, they wouldn't
have given it too you."

"Ummm, I guess," Chad replied hesitantly. Then he once again held it out
to David. David took the necklace and unfastened the clasp as Chad turned
away from him. He slipped it around Chad's neck and re-fastened it.

"There ya go kiddo."

"Thanks."

"Chad, I think you should give David's grandparents a call," Karen
suggested.

"Yeah, c'mon," he said to David, walking out to the phone.

David dialed the number and waited until his grandmother's familiar raspy
voice answered. "Hi Nanny, it's me, got someone here who wants to say
something." He handed the receiver to Chad.

"Umm, hi....Nanny," he said. "Yes, thank you....It's very nice, I like
it....ummm, but wasn't it expensive?" There was a long pause as Chad
listened, his face flushing slightly. He shot a glance at David as Nanny
continued to talk. Then he smiled. "Yes, I will....no, I won't....ummm,
yeah, well, me too....okay, thanks again, really." Chad grinned as he hung
up the phone. "She's nice."

David laughed and gave Chad a light punch on the arm. "She can be, just
don't make her mad. So all taken care of?"

"Yeah, she gave me some advice and told me some stuff."

"Uh huh, she never misses an opportunity," David chuckled. "So what did
she say."

Chad flushed slightly again. "Ummm, not supposed to tell you."

"That's typical," David answered. "So, you ready for the rest of your
present?"

"Yeah, where is it?"

"Not here. Need to go somewhere else."

Karen entered the kitchen and interrupted. "Chad, go to our room and grab
what's on the bed." Confused, Chad looked at David, who shrugged. Then he
left the room and walked upstairs. Karen smiled at David's expression.
"We took the liberty of packing some things for him. You said you wanted
it to be a surprise."

"Oh, that's cool. Thanks Karen."

Chad walked slowly back downstairs carrying a small duffel bag. "What's
this for?"

Karen said, "Don't worry about it, have a good time." Then she went back
to the living room.

Chad looked into David's grinning face. "What's all this about?"

"The rest of your present. Ready to go?"

"Yeah, I guess." They walked into the living room, said their farewells to
Chad's parents and walked to David's car. As David drove out the driveway,
the questions started. "Where we going?"

"It's a surprise."

"C'mon, where?"

David grinned and turned up the music. He drove into town and pulled up to
the motel office. "Wait here." A few minutes later, he returned and slid
into the driver's seat. Holding out the key, he asked, "Ready for a
camping trip?"

Chad's jaw almost hit the floor. "What?"

"I rented a cabin-type thing. Don't mind do ya?" David continued as they
parked in front of one of the small cabins.

"Dave, umm...wow."

David laughed again. "Hah, speechless for once." He climbed out of the
car, opened the truck and retrieved his own duffel. Chad was still in the
car when he closed the trunk. David walked to the door and opened it.
"C'mon, ya goof."

Silently grinning from ear to ear, Chad got out of the car and walked
toward the cabin, key in hand.
