Chapter 03


"Hey why the long face, chin up its Friday" Tracy's mother said to him as he
came downstairs to
breakfast.
He smiled halfheartedly at her and sat down at the table while his mother
was making pancakes
for breakfast.
Tracy wondered how he was going to be around Devin and not tell him how he
felt, he sighed deeply

"Sorry about yesterday trace" Tracy's dad said as he came into the kitchen
and kissed him on his

"That's okay dad, me and Devin had a good time together" Tracy said with a

Devin sat at the table eating his breakfast wondering if it was a good idea
to tell Tracy that he
was in love with him.
Even though Tracy had said that they were just having fun, Devin felt that
there was something
more than just fun to what he and Tracy did together.
He only hoped was that Tracy felt the same way when he worked up the courage
to tell him how he
felt and prepare himself for rejection which was a very real possibility.
After he finished his cereal and put the bowl in the dishwasher he went
upstairs to brush his
teeth.
"what's do you say we have lunch together" Devin mother said to him as he
came back down the
steps from brushing his teeth.
"Don't you have to be in court?" Devin asked as he knew how busy his mother
usually was when they
lived back in Philadelphia.

"I'm only working this morning as I told you last night today is really
special" Devin mother
said to him with a smile which made him wonder what was so special about

"Okay" Devin said agreeing to have lunch with his mother.
He waked out the door with her as he was going over to Tracy's house which
was becoming a usual
thing.
When he and his mother left the house they spotted Tracy's mom coming out
the door on her way to
her restaurant, Devin and his mom waved at her as they walked over to the
car.
"What time will you be home?" Devin asked lifting his hand over his eyes
from the sun.
"Around twelve I had most of my cases rescheduled for Monday" his mother
replied as she opened
her car door.
"Okay I'll see you then" Devin said as he started walking off.

"Hey hold it, give me my kiss first" Devin's mother said to him before he
went any further.
He walked back over to her with a smile and she leaned over for him to kiss
her on her cheek.
"That's better" his mother said with a smile as she kissed him back before
getting in her car.
"Bye mom" Devin said smiling before he ran across the street to Tracy's
house, he smiled and
waved at his mother before she drove off and then rang the doorbell.
"Come on in Dev it's open" Tracy dad yelled to him from inside.
Devin turned the doorknob and let himself in and closed the door behind him.
"Ha two points in your face" Tracy dad said to him tauntingly as Devin
walked into the living
room and saw Tracy and his dad playing NBA Street.
"Come over her Dev take over for me Don't let him win" Tracy's dad said as
he got up from the
sofa and gave Devin the controller.

Devin smiled at Tracy's dad who he thought was pretty cool and took the
controller from him and
sat down next to Tracy as his dad left them and headed up the stairs.
"Hey" Tracy said with a smile trying to act normal as having Devin so close

not to look at one

As time when on Devin felt really nervous being around Tracy because of his

smiling and turning

over to the basket

"Who's that?" Tracy said after retrieving the ball and looking over at Devin

just gotten out of a taxi and was taking out a travel bag from the trunk.
Devin spun around to see who Tracy was talking about and a huge smile
appeared on his face
before he started running up to the man who was his father.

"DAD YOU"RE HOME" Devin shouted as he threw himself at his father who caught
him and laughed.
"I really missed you buddy" Devin father said hugging him tightly.
"Me too dad" Devin said as he closed his eyes and hugged his father tightly
with a huge smile on
his face.
"Have you gotten taller?" Devin father asked after they broke their embrace
and smiled at each
other.
"A little I think" Devin said with a smile.
"Oh I almost for got, hey Tracy come meet my dad" Devin said as he turned
and yelled to his
friend across the street.
"Tracy put down his basketball in the driveway that served as their basket
ball court and ran
across the street to meet Devin's father.
"Dad this is my best friend Tracy" Devin said introducing his friend to his
father.
"Tracy this is my Dad" Devin said smiling at Tracy who had a big smile on
his face as he looked
up at Devin's dad.
"Nice to meet you Tracy" Devin father said smiling at Tracy.
"Nice to meet you Mr. McKenna" Tracy said with a smile.
"Call me Dale" Devin dad said as he looked down at the two smiling twelve

"what do you say we go inside" Devin's dad said to him putting his arm on
his shoulder as he and
Tracy walked up to the house helping his father with his bags.

"what's Brazil like?" Tracy asked as after he went into the house with
Devin's and his dad and
took a seat on the sofa.
"It's beautiful" Devin's dad said with a smile looking at Tracy as he sat

"Thanks dad" Devin said inspecting the bracelet made of beads that his
father gave to him.

"Thanks" Tracy said with a big smile as he took the bracelet from Devin's
dad and fastened it
around his wrist.

"You guys can wear than like sort of a friendship bracelet" Devin's dad said
to his son and his

Devin and Tracy looked at each other and smiled as they both liked the idea,
as they admired
their matching bracelets.
Devin sat leaning against his dad with Tracy sitting on the other side of
the sofa with an
expression of awe on his face as Devin's father told them about all about
Brazil.
Unlike Tracy Devin wasn't intrigued by his father's stories but was
overjoyed to have him home
again.
A few hours later Devin mother came home and he and Tracy smiled as the
watched Devin's parents

"Okay guys I planned for us to have lunch together today so we better get
going, I'm starving"
Devin's mother said looking at her watch.
"Do you want to come with us Tracy" Devin mother said as she noticed he
started looking a little

"If it's okay with you" Tracy said smiling.
"sure come on" Devin's father said smiling at Tracy.
"Okay I'll go tell my dad" Tracy said with a huge smile as he got up from
the sofa and headed to
the door.

"He's a nice boy" Devin's mother said with a smile leaning against her
husband after Tracy left.
"Yeah he's seems like a good kid" Devin father said with a smile before he
hugged his wife again.
Devin smiled at his parents as they embraced each other happy that they both
liked Tracy.
When Tracy got home he went to let his father know that he was going out
with Devin and his
parents.
His father was still asleep and he didn't want to wake him so he wrote him a
note and left it on
the pillow next to his father and left his parents bedroom.
Tracy went to his room and change his t-shirt and brushed his hair and
looked himself over in
the mirror before he left his room and headed downstairs.
As he was coming out the door he saw Devin and his parents coming out of
their house and smiled
at them as he walked over to them.

"Let's go to Tracy's mom's restaurant we had lunch there yesterday" Devin
said with a smile

"Okay we'll have lunch there then" Devin's mother said with a smile.
"New Jersey is a really nice place" Devin's father said with a smile looking

his mother's restaurant.
"Devin's parents asked me to have lunch with them and we decided to come

smile as he walked up to his mother.
"Hi Sharon" Devin's mother said as she and his father walked up to her.

"Yes he finally decided to return to civilization" Devin's mother said with

mother.

"Let me get you guys a table" Tracy's mother said walking away and talking
to the one of her
waitresses briefly.

Tracy's mother looked over to them with a smile and motion to them to join
her at the table she
got form them.
Tracy and Devin along with Devin's parents walked over to where Tracy's
mother was and the
table she got for them in a corner of the restaurant.
"Have a look at the menu and one of the waitresses will take your order"
Tracy's mother said
as she had to leave to deal with a problem in the kitchen.
She stopped briefly and talked to one of the waitresses before heading into
the kitchen to deal
with the problem.
"Hi Tracy" a girl the same age as Tracy and Devin said with a smile as she
came over to their
table while Devin's parents were looking through the menu.
"Hi Christy" Tracy said with a smile looking up at the girl with average
length blond hair that
was a little darker than his.

"I didn't see you yesterday" Tracy said smiling at the girl that made Devin

jealous.

"Who's your friend" Christy asked looking at Devin.

"Yes I just have a salad" Devin's mother said brushing back her hair.
"I'll have a steak well done" Devin's dad said with a smile as he closed the
menu.
"And what will you boys be having" Christy's mother asked with a smile
looking at Tracy and

"I'll have the usual" Tracy said with a smile.

"The same thing we had yesterday, pasta" Tracy said with a smile.
"I'll have the usual too" Devin said with a smile as his parents looked at

"Okay I'll be back with your order in a while" Christy's mother said with a
smile before she
left.
"Have you ordered already" Tracy's mother asked with a smile as she walked
over to them a few
minutes later.
"Yes the waitress said she'll be back in a while" Devin's mother said
smiling.
"This is the first chance I've had to sit down all day" Tracy's mother said
pulling up a chair
and joining them at the table.

"why don't you join us for lunch" Devin's dad suggested smiling at Tracy's
mother.

"It's just that I have a lot to do" Tracy's mother said smiling.
"You own the place you can spare an hour for lunch can't you" Devin's dad
said smiling.
"Well you do have a point there" Tracy's mother said chuckling.
"Sheila can you get me a salad please" Tracy mother said to one of the
waitresses that was

Devin's parents and Tracy's mother sat talking while they were waiting on

conversation with

hand.

"Bye Sharon" Devin's mom said smiling before Tracy's mother headed back to
the kitchen.
"Excuse me can you get me the bill please" Devin father said to the same
waitress that attended

The waitress met up with Tracy's mother who came back out of the kitchen on
her way over to her

before continuing on her

around the city, they headed back home and spent the rest of the afternoon

dad said to him and

with a smile as he

his eyes.
"Okay then" Devin's dad said with a smile before he headed off to the
kitchen to help his wife
with dinner.
"Hey you wanna play gran turismo" Devin asked looking at Tracy who was

"Sure" Tracy replied flipping his hair from his face turning back to Devin

Devin got up from the sofa and he up and Tracy went up to his room where his

and started walking back to the door.

pocket and tossed
