The Summer of 1972 had just come to the small community of Mesa Vista,
California. Situated in the southern part of the state, the surroundings
proved pleasant enough because beyond the golden hills lay the seashore and

"Edaine, what are you doing with Doranne today?"

"I was thinking about checking out that new skateboard park just outside
of town. She should be here any minute. Did you wanna come too?"

next, the doorbell rang.

"Must be Doranne", said Edaine as she excused herself to get up from the
table and race towards the door.

"Please do let her come inside, Ede", suggested Evanne as she looked at
her daughter racing towards the door.

It was a few minutes later when Edaine returned to the kitchen with
Doranne by her side.

"Gee, Miss Henshall, you look lovely this afternoon", greeted Doranne
courteously as both young ladies stood before the mistress of the house.

An hour or so later, the trio was there as the park was nearly full. Each
and every kid took turns skateboarding the many cement pits and loops.
You could tell that they were becoming experienced by the day as they
each perfected their skateboarding skills. At that moment, Logaine Mendes
and Astrid Delgadillo noticed Edaine and Doranne approach the other side
of the skateboarding pit. They were decked out in the required helmets,
elbow and knee pads, and gloves as stated by the park's rules.

"You girls stop where you are at until we tell you otherwise", said
Evanne to the kids as she, Ashley, and Tannith walked down into the
middle of the cemented pit and stood against each other with their backs

"Mom, what's going on?"

"You'll see, just take turns skating down the pit to all sides of it",
suggested Tannith as they remained still while standing with their backs

"Okay, Mom. If you say so", responded Edaine as she skated down the pit
to the otherside.

She passed her mother and the other parents as she skated up the wall to
the tip of the otherside of the pit. It was Logaine's turn, then
Astrid's, then Doranne's. This continued for sometime as the girls
successfully skateboarded in front of, in back of, and around the ladies
as they stood still in the middle of the cement pit. They were getting

as they continued to skate to and fro in front of each other's mothers
while the adults remained still. At this time, the other kids and
observers at the park took notice as they rushed over to see what was

skated down the wall, then another, and still another. A procession of
kids skateboarded down the walls of the rotund cement pit, taking turns
to skate to and from each side of the pit and even around the three
women. They were careful not to crash into them as they all took turns
skateboarding in that very same manner.

This continued until one of the park's attendants took notice and rushed
over to where the action was taking place.

"Hey you kids, nobody's supposed to be in the middle of the skating rows
while on foot unless they have a board and accompanying equipment", said
the attendant.

All at once the kids were disappointed that their moment of fun at the
center of the park was cut short so they all went their separate ways all
over the rest of the park. As the last of the kids cleared, Edaine rushed
up to her mother concerned and beside herself.

"Mom, what were you thinking? We could've been thrown out of the park or
you could've gotten hurt bad", exclaimed Edaine anxiously.

"Honey, baby. We're sorry, but we just wanted to join in on the fun, you

"Mom, I'm sorry if I got out of line, but the attendant was serious when

minute. As Doranne, Astrid, and Logaine watched with their own mothers,
