change their clothes. They were back in record time finishing getting

The next afternoon, Ella drove as Sandra directed her as to which
way to go. They talked about meeting Lt. Colonel Hill's wife and boys and

impression on Lt. Colonel Hill's wife.
"I wonder if he has told his wife that we are lovers?" Ella asked as
they got near Lt. Colonel Hill's house.
"From the way he talks, I suspect that he tells his wife

"That is what I figure too." Ella said as she turned into the drive
that Sandra was pointing to.
"Well we're here." Sandra said as Ella stopped the car.
"And there's Lt. Colonel Hill's wife." Ella said as she took a last
glance in the mirror before she glance out at the slim attractive woman at
the door.
"What's his wife's name, I've forgotten." Sandra asked in a

"No clue, I was hoping that's you'd remember." Ella replied in a
whisper.
"Maybe Colonel Hill will show up and save us." Sandra whispered as
they went up to meet Colonel Hill's wife.
"Hi, I'm Charlotte, Johan's husband. He's out back acting like he's
god's gift to the grill." Charlotte said with a big laugh at the joke that
she was sending her husband's way.
"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Hill, I'm Ella and this is Sandra." Ella
said as she reached out to shake Charlotte's hand.
"Oh call me Charlotte, I'm a good old southern girl and I like being
casual." Charlotte said as she let go of Ella's hand after giving her a
firm handshake.
"Thank you for inviting us over, we do appreciate it." Sandra said
as she shook Charlotte's hand.
"Hey I just had to meet the two girls that made my husband look so
good and got him his promotion." Charlotte said getting another dig at her
husband.
"Well we just did our jobs, he is the one that made all the
decisions, we just followed his orders." Ella said seriously.
"Don't tell him that or he will get a big head. You know how men are
either one or the other of their heads has to be big at all times."
Charlotte said with a big laugh.
Ella couldn't help but to blush at Charlotte's remark but she had to
say that she was beginning to like this lady but she wondered about all the
digs that she made at her husband. Charlotte then took them by the arm and
led them into the house. She told them that her two teenage boys had
decided that going to a baseball game would be lots more fun that staying

"You had better watch it or I will cut you off in a second!" She

talked for a while as they watched Colonel Hill or rather Johan cook the
steaks. Then Charlotte dragged them back into the house to help her fix the
side dishes. They talked as the potatoes baked and for Ella, Charlotte
reminded her of Ruth in how strong minded a woman she was. But as she
thought about it, military wives had to be strong as they usually ended up
raising the kids and kept the household going when their husbands were
away. When Johan as Ella and Sandra now knew him called out that the
streaks were done, they helped Charlotte take the salad, potatoes, and the
eating utensils out to the patio where the picnic table was. Once they sat
down to eat, Charlotte took over the conversation asking Ella and Sandra
about their lives and where they were from. Most of this information, Johan
didn't know as they never really had time to talk in Iraq. It was all work
for them as they had a job to do. So he sat back and listened for the most
part but did add things from time to time. Ella noticed the interaction
between her commander and his wife and she began to respect what they had
together. They also learned that this would be Colonel Hill's last tour of
duty. Charlotte was ready for them to find a home and stay there. They
hated to hear that he would be leaving the Air Force as he was someone
great to serve under but he respected his wife and loved her more. She had
done her time and it was time for him to give back to her.
When they left later that night, Charlotte told them that they were
welcome back anytime and they replied that they would be back. They knew

with Nina's choice the next time they eat out. Ella saw that Ruth had
allowed the girls to work it out among themselves. Ella did ask Ruth how
she knew that they would work it out and she simply told Ella that the
girls had learned long ago that if they didn't work it out then neither of
them would get a choice for a long time to come. So they had learned early
in life that it was better to give and take rather than to just keep
arguing. They never liked their mother's choice so they worked it out among
themselves.
The stopped along the way and got everyone something to eat before
heading on to Ella and Sandra's apartment. Ruth loved how the girls had
fixed up the place and the girls loved the balcony where they could see so
far off in the distance. They rested for the most part that afternoon as
Ella and Sandra kept the girls occupied as Ruth was able to relax. That
evening, Ella cooked them all a big supper as she loved to do. The girls
talked about all they wanted to see while they were here not allowing the
adults much time to get many words in. That evening, they played a game of
Monopoly. Alina and Nina were the first to fall out of the game so they
went to Ella and Sandra pulling for one of them to beat their mother who
always won the game when they played at home. The game went on long enough
for the Alina and Nina to lose interest so they went turned on the TV to
watch a video, only returning to the game when it was just Ella and Ruth

on what to do to beat their mother. The game went on way past the girls
bedtime so Ella and Ruth decided to be co-winners. Alina and Nina then
counted out both Ella's and Sandra's money then they declared that Ella was
the real winner as she had more money that their money. Then it was shower
time and bed. As the girls showered, Ella told Ruth that she could have the
bedroom with the girls and they would sleep in the living room on the air
mattress that they had bought. Ruth refused saying the she and the girls
would do fine with air mattress and she didn't want to kick Ella and Sandra
out of the their bedroom. They were still arguing about who was going to
sleep where, when Alina and Nina came in fresh from their showers and
decided that they wanted to sleep with Ella and Sandra. Sandra said that
was fine with her so it was decided even thought Ruth warned them that
wasn't such a good idea but Ella said it was settled. So she and Sandra
helped Ruth get her bed set up and then they went to their bedroom to find
that Alina and Nina had staked out each side of the bed leaving them the
middle. Ella they decided would be sleeping beside of Nina and Sandra
beside of Alina. Ella saw that their big bed now looked so much smaller
than before. They went to the bathroom to change into their tee shirts and

kiss on their foreheads. Soon they were all asleep and that was when Ruth's

"A arm across the side of the head, you?" Sandra answered back in a

girls decided it was time to move again causing Ella and Sandra to move to
keep from getting hit.
"I don't think we're going to get any sleep tonight if we stay
here." Sandra said.
"I believe that you're right." Ella said as she slipped out of the
bed. They both gave the girls a kiss on the cheek as they slept then they
covered them back up.
"Move your fat ass over." Sandra said as she gently shook Ruth
awake.
Ruth opened her eyes to see Sandra and Ella kneeling by her
makeshift bed. She smiled as she said, "I see the girls have forced you out
of your bed. I tried to warn you."
"Yes you did. Now move over or Alina and Nina will be the only ones
ready to take on the world in the morning." Sandra said.
"They're always ready to take on the world." Ruth said with a laugh
as she moved over in the bed. "Now you two behave yourselves while you're
in bed with me."
"You mean we can't do this." Sandra said as she grabbed Ella pulling

"Oh god!" Ruth said as she pulled the covers over her face and this
made Ella and Sandra both laugh. They decided to really get Ruth so they

They next morning, Ella was awaken by two young girls piling on top

chairs. Once the breakfast was finished, the girls rushed the adults so
that they could start their day. For the next two weeks Alina and Nina kept

there but at the same time it was nice to have some peace and quiet once
Ruth and the girls were headed back home. And of course the first thing

couldn't figure out why they would switch to Arabic just to talk about the
newest movies that some of them had seen. But then there were pieces of the
conversation that seemed to be concerned with the Middle East. Since they
had no clue as to who they were, Ella and Sandra began to make up stories
as to who they were. They started to make up a game of it. They started out
with the group being Military Intelligence to CIA and on to double agents
for some radical group from the Middle East. They had fun listening in and
trying to figure out what they were talking about and it also helped them
to improve their own vocabulary as when they heard something that they were
unsure about they went back to their desks to try and figure out what the
word or saying meant. This went on for a couple of months until the day
came that they gave themselves away to the group. One of the group had been
eyeing them without them noticing. So one night he said something that
caught both Sandra's and Ella attention. Both of them reacted to the
statement then they tried to hide their shock.
"You know what I said don't you." The man asked both Sandra and Ella
as the whole group stared at them almost as if they were accusing them of
some serious crime.
Ella looked over at Sandra who she could see knew that they was no
use in lying so she replied, "You said that you all would get the nation's
attention when you blew the White House to bits on Wednesday."
"You've been listening to us for a while now haven't you." He stated
more than asked.
"Yes we have. So what's your problem?" Sandra said decided that it
was time to be the aggressor hoping to end this here. Then she and Ella
could make their escape.
"Our problem is that you have no business listening to what we say
Staff Sergeant. I believe that you need to come with me and answer some
questions." He said as he got you.
Ella began to get more than a little afraid, as far as she was
concerned they hadn't done anything wrong but obviously this guy saw that
differently. "We need to get back to work, our break is about over." Ella
said to him not getting up from her seat.
"Colonel Hill will be told that you were delayed so come with me."
He said this time it was more of a order than a request.
"Who are you and who do you work for?" Sandra asked as she also
stayed in her seat.
"Who I work for and who I am is none of your concern. Now come with
me or I will get the MP's to escort you." He said and this time he left no
doubt as to what Ella and Sandra should do so they got up and followed him
out of the room. Ella's knees were weak but she tried to act like it was no
big deal. The man took them to a part of the building that they had never
been to and he went through several security stations to get them there. He
then stopped at one door and opened it telling Sandra to have a seat. Then
he took Ella to the next room and deposited her there.
