				  Find Me

She leaned back in her chair, as the plane came to a slow and steady
landing. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to New York". Beth had spent years
dreaming of this moment. At 22 years of age, she finally felt free. After
picking her baggage up, including her guitar she made her way towards the
exit. She couldn't help but stand and stare as she looked around the
arrivals area. She watched a young woman run while pushing a stroller and
embrace another girl who had been on the same flight Beth was. There were
tears in their eyes. Beth smiled. Sure, everyone thought Beth left Ireland
to get this great new job, but that wasn't the whole story. She reached
down and placed her earphones over her ears. It felt like such a cliché but
here she was, in New York city, as she hopped out of her taxi U2 filled her
ears, "in the city of blinding lights".

Beth was ecstatic when she heard she got the job as the main graphic artist
for "Vanity Factory Records". Ever since graduating with a degree in Art
History Beth had longed to be able to get back to drawing. She spent the
previous year missing college, her friends and herself. New York was what
she needed. She needed to be in one of the biggest cities in the world to
find herself. She was happy enough to take the job and through some distant
friends of a friend she got an apartment which she was to share with two
other girls.

It was about eight at night by the time Beth arrived at manila heights. She
skipped up the steps as best she could and pressed the buzzer for number
fourteen. "Yello...?" a voice called. Nervously at first Beth spoke up,
"Hey, it's me, Beth your new flatmate". There was silence. "Our new flat
what? Oh, you must be the Irish girl. I'll come help you with your
bags". Beth sighed with relief. Shortly, Beth was greeted by Bailey. Bailey
was a beautiful girl, tall, lean with thick curly brown hair and killer
green eyes. "HEY!" Bailey jumped for Beth hugging her tightly, all Beth
could do was stand there shocked by this amazingly friendly
welcome. Finally Beth managed a reply, "hi". Bailey smiled, "I thought
Irish people were supposed to be all welcoming", she drawled, "I'm Bailey
by the way, come on, lets get you moved in".

Once they were upstairs Beth met the final member of their apartment. "Hey
there Beth, my name's Lindsey", she said as she held out her hand. I took
it and shook it with a smile. Beth eventually got the chance to get a look
at her room. She pushed open the door and was pleasantly surprised. It was
white walled with high sloping ceiling with four windows on the roof. There
was a cosy looking queen size bed freshly made up, and plenty of shelf
space for her books and pictures. Beth sat down on the bed, happy to find
it was as soft as it looked. She took in the room again, adjusting her eyes
to the evening light her roof windows provided. Slowly, she started to
unpack beginning with the most important, her laptop and ipod
speakers. Eagerly she plugged everything in and began to play her
tunes. With renewed vigour she moved her clothes from her suitcases to her
closet and placed her treasured pictures on top of her shelves. When
everything was unpacked she stood at looked around, suddenly she felt
really tired. Finding her bed she sprawled out, falling asleep straight
away without even having a chance to remove her converse trainers.

In the kitchen Lindsey and Bailey were chilling some drinks and firing up
the grill getting things ready for their housewarming party. Lindsey opened
the French doors a little wider, walking out onto to the small balcony and
inhaling deeply. Bailey came up behind her and put her arm around Lindsey,
"Hey kid" she said. "Hey" replied Lindsey, half smiling, she looked down
at her feet and leaned forward over the balcony and out of Bailey's
reach. "Talk to me linds" Bailey pleaded. Lindsey exhaled slowly, raising
her head to take in the New York skyline getting lost in thought. She
closed her eyes tightly telling herself not to think about the events of
the last college term. When she opened them, her eyes stung with tears, she
couldn't escape. Moving from Boston for the summer was the best thing to
do, but despite the geographical distance, she still felt the pain. "I'll
be alright Bales, its just hard...." Lindsey broke of, aware of the fact
that she was whining. "Well, lets get this party started" Lindsey chirped
while walking over to the grill and cleaning it.

Bailey left Lindsey to her own devices and re-entered the kitchen and began
to prepare the salad. As she tore off the lettuce leaves she thought about
how lucky she was. She had just graduated and she could not wait to get her
teeth into New York. Sure, she didn't know exactly what she was doing,
besides playing the odd gig with some friends for support, but she was
making her own way. She thought of Alicia, and was thankful things ended
well between them "very well" Bailey thought aloud, smiling. "Talking to
yourself again dear?" Lindsey laughed as she grabbed a beer, opened it and
brought it to her lips. Lindsey was about five foot six inches, smaller
than Bailey's five foot seven figure. She had beautiful jet black hair and
sky blue eyes. "Smart ass!" Bailey replied, "Now, if you don't mind I
think I should check on Beth" she said as she skipped across the living
room to Beth's door, finding it slightly open.

Beth awoke, rubbing her eyes and yawning. It was dark now and it took her a
minute to remember where she was. As everything crawled back into her mind,
she smiled. "I forgot about jc" she thought as she reached for her beloved
acoustic guitar. She pulled it closely to her, sliding to the edge of the
bed and began to tune it. Lightly strumming she started playing Simon and
Garfunkel's "America". "Corny" she thought as she began to sing along "I've
come to look for America." lost in the music she didn't notice that Bailey
was standing just by the doorway.

Bailey was about to knock but she heard movement, she saw Beth was just
waking up. Bailey couldn't help but think how cute Beth looked; she hadn't
even managed to get her shoes off. "Poor thing" she thought. "She is so
cute" Bailey pondered, as she watched Beth reach for something. "A guitar"
Bailey chuckled. She listened intently as she heard Beth tune her little
guitar. Beth was about Bailey's height, a little shorter maybe, with
shoulder length blonde hair folded into soft long curls that framed her
face wonderfully. Her green eyes shone brightly as she began to strum out a
familiar tune. "America" Bailey mouthed, smiling, "she's good". Bailey
looked intently at Beth's form. Tight blue jeans, pink converse and a cute
little low cut white top. The t- shirt hugged her every magnificent curve
and made her little breasts look soft even to look at. Bailey snapped out
of it when she heard the music stop. She knocked lightly on the door. "Come
on in Bailey" Beth called. Beth walked in, head bent "you caught me" she
laughed. "I'm not used to playing for people" Beth replied, smiling
back. For what seemed like eons Beth looked into Bailey's eyes. Bailey felt
funny "get it together kid, this isn't like you" thought Bailey as she
broke the stare. "We are having a little house, I mean, flat warming party
tonight. I think it's a good way for us to introduce you to everyone we
know, that way you don't feel too lonesome" Beth said. "Cool" Beth added
as she hopped to her feet. "What can I do to help?" she asked as she began
walking out of the room. Bailey followed "just eat and drink" she replied.
Beth turned, a little too suddenly for Bailey, saying "I'm Irish, drinking
I can do". Bailey tripped over herself almost falling over. "Woah" Beth
said, as she caught Bailey awkwardly, "How many have you had". Bailey got
flustered, feeling sparks and gathering herself "Haha Irish, very
funny". Beth laughed. The buzzer sounded for the door. "Saved by the bell"
Beth called as she went to let in their guests".

Bailey went to the sound system, wondering what to play, finally she
slipped in an old favourite and turned up the volume. "Blitzkrieg Bop"
Lindsey called as she laid out the food and greeted everyone, "nice one"
added Beth. Lindsey smiled, she liked this girl already. This was going to
be a night to remember....
