never had that freedom before, I only got to drive when they wanted me too,

"Well now you'll have that freedom but I won't always be able to

car. She was still a little tense behind the wheel but Gena could see that

Lara talked a little along the way to the gym, mostly about working
on the hallway and not any about looking for a car that evening. Still Gena

"Pretty busy, I got most of the hallway done. You can see when we

"Nah... Let's go talk to George and see what he can do for us. I
talked to him this afternoon and he said he just got a couple of cars in
that he was going to start working on. I explained our situation and he

"You did... he did?" Lara asked turning to her.
"Yes I did and he did, but like I said, don't expect too much when
you see the cars, once George gets done with them, they'll look and run a

"I know that already, as long as it has wheels and an engine and
they both work the way they're supposed to work, that is all that I care

They talked as Lara drove them to George's house about all the types

garage doors.
"Be right there," Came the reply from a deep baritone voice.
A minute later, George came from the shallows and Gena looked at
Lara to see her reaction as she knew that George's voice did not fit his

whatever Dary has been telling you, she's lying, I never stole any of these

"Now George you know Dary never told a lie in her life, I believe
everything she told me about you which was you're the best father-in-law a

"I'm taking real good care of it and it is working great for me but

said.

"I can't tell you, George made me promise not to tell. He said he
wouldn't let me have it until we come to pick it when it is ready." Lara

took the pan of beans off the stove.
"Oh I know but he does do a lot of good. He has helped out a lot of

Stella said as she laughed.
"Me too honey," George said laughing with her.
"Well let's eat and you can tell us about all the wild things that
has happened around town." Stella said as she wiped her hands off on her
apron.
After a home cooked country dinner, they all went out on the porch
and Gena got to sit in one of the rockers as they talked. An evening breeze
came up cooling everyone off and they had some nice conversation. Gena and
Lara stayed until the sun began to go down and they made their goodbyes.
"I'll tell you about the car if you want me too." Lara said as she
turned onto the highway and got them headed home.
"No, you can surprise me when we come back to pick it up." Gena told

as she said, "But I can tell you about the history of the car and what
George needs to do to it.
"Yes you can do that without telling me what it is and thus not

"Well an elderly lady owned it and she never drove it much so it
mostly just sat out in her driveway. It her later years, she couldn't drive
so the car just sat there until she died. Then when she died, her children
fought over everything that she owned. George said the car ended up just
sitting in the driveway for several years never moving until the children
had an auction to sell everything. George and Stella went and Stella got

haul back as it wouldn't start. He said the car was in good shape except
for some of the wiring and hoses that the critters got to or had rotted out
on their own. He's had it for a while now, getting parts here and there

"Just how much is all this going to cost us, the cost of those parts

"No George and I made a deal and he's going to let me pay a little
as I go along. I told him a little about my situation without going into

"I hope Dary hasn't been talking." Gena said starting to be a little
concerned.
"Oh no, she didn't, I'm sure. I actually think it was us who gave it
away. What happened was in all the papers and then us showing up needing a
car. And you didn't tell them who I was, just my name. So I think they both
knew not to ask and they didn't." Lara said.
"No they didn't but all the same we need to protect who you are,
maybe we need to come up with a story as to how you ended up staying with

"Yea we do, we can make up a story like we did about all the people

"Yes it was, think about what you want your history to be and we'll

"But this is your past, so it needs to come from you," Gena told

"Okay, I'll add something to it if you like," Gena said. And of
course, the rest of the way home, Lara had to talk about some things that
