"Yes it is," Gena said giving her a friendly hug as they walked
back.
When they got back to the station, Gena reached into her purse
giving Lara a couple of twenties, the last two that she had until payday,
"Here use this to put some gas in your car."
"That's okay, I don't need it. George must have filled it up right
before he got to the house." Lara said with a smile.
"That figures, well that means you owe him and Stella another
dinner," Gena told her.
"That I can do!" Lara told her then she quickly looked around. Gena
was wondering whom Lara was looking for when she felt Lara's lips on hers
giving her a quick kiss. Then she went giggling back to Gena's car giving
her a wave as she went. Gena just had to laugh at her little friend whom
now had become her girlfriend and she went back into the station with a
smile on her face.
That evening, after Lara fixed Gena a nice dinner, she escorted Gena
out to her car, opening the passenger door and closing it after Gena
slipped inside. Lara had a big grin on her face as she quickly ran around
the front of the car and got inside.
"You ready?" Lara asked her.
"Yep, take me on a tour of the town in your new car." Gena said
giving Lara's arm a squeeze.
"I'll be glad to." Lara said as she started the car and then put it
into gear.
Gena could see how proud Lara was of her new car even though it was
older than she was. It was still new to her and Gena saw how happy the car
made Lara. Gena talked about her day as Lara drove them through town and
into the country side. She even drove up on the mountain that Gena had
caught Lara speeding across. Gena noticed that the small car had plenty of
power and didn't seem to miss a beat going up the steep grade. Gena also
noticed that this time Lara was driving at the speed limit. They drove
around for a couple of hours using only a quarter a tank of gas which meant
that it got great gas mileage which was a good thing since they were both
on a strict budget now.
As Gena was getting out of the car once they had gotten back home,
she happened to have noticed something in the floorboard of the back
seat. She stepped back to the rear passenger side door looking inside thus
drawing Lara's attention.
"What is it? Is there something wrong with my car?" Lara asked her
and Gena looked up to see a worried expression on Lara's face.
"You do realize that you have two pairs of panties in the floor
board of your car." Gena said with a big smile.
Lara immediately blushed then she got this devious grin on her face,
"Oh I know, I'm going to put them around my review mirror tomorrow."
"You're not going to drive around town with our panties hanging from
the review mirror!" Gena told her.
"Sure I am," Lara said grinning then she turned and headed for the
front door.
Gena tried the back door only to find the car locked and she didn't
have a key. "Lara get back her and let me get these panties out of your
car!" Gena demanded.
"No, I said I'm going to put them around my mirror tomorrow
morning." Lara said unlocking the front door and going inside.
"Damn her," Gena said under her breath but then she smiled at her
friend messing with her like that, at least she hoped that she was messing
with her.
Gena kept after her all evening about letting her go out and get the
panties but Lara kept saying that she was going to proudly show them off by
putting them on her mirror. Then to shut Gena up about it, she took her
into the bedroom and they made love until they collapsed with exhaustion
and fell to sleep.
The next evening when Lara came to pick Gena up in her own car, Gena
was relieved to see that there were no panties hanging from the
mirror. However that weekend, she had to get into the glove compartment and
it was there that she discovered the panties. She preferred that they not
be in the car at all but at least she could live with them hidden away.
From then on they pretty much used Lara's car and hers was only used
to take her back and forth to work except on the days they both decided to
workout before Gena had to go into the station to put in a day's work. With
their tight money situation, they were able to stretch finding cheap ways
to have a night out. This being a small town, there wasn't a lot to do
anyway and so they enjoyed their time together. They were also able to do
more on the house, including adding the insulation that it sorely
needed. This turned out to be harder than either thought it would be but
once they figured out what they were doing, it went pretty smoothly. Gena
also dipped into her house fund to put in those windows that she and Lara
picked out. That too helped with the electric bills and stopped some of the
drafts coming from the old caulking around the old windows.
The DEA and state police kept Lara busy dealing with her father's
contacts and his computer records that she had helped to decipher. The cops
were also fighting the charges against them but it looked more and more to
be a solid case with Lara testifying against them. However the state
investigators caught a big break when one of the three cops started talking
about copping a plea. Gena and Lara were both happy to hear this as it
meant that Lara might not have to testify. Neither of them was looking
forward to that. However in the end, all three cops copped a plea to keep
from going to the state pen but to a federal one where some of the
criminals that they had arrested couldn't get to them. Thus this saved Lara
from having to testify in any trial.
It was almost exactly six months to the day, on a Friday morning,
that Gena got a call from Lara and she was all in a panic. Before Gena
could say hello to her, Lara spit out, "Oh God Gena, I'm in really big
trouble now!"
