Joey Potter opened her eyes and winced at the sun streaming through
the window. Her head was throbbing. Where am I? She sat up, realising she
was on her living room couch. How'd I get here? Getting up and walking to
her bedroom, Joey tried to piece together the previous night's events, but
it was all one big blurred image. She remembered Pacey dragging her to
Cliff Elliot's beach party. She remebered Dawson ditching her for Jen.
She remembered some guy bringing her a drink. She didn't remember coming
home. Rubbing her eyes, she wondered, What time is it? Joey glanced at
her clock. 7:13?! Shit, I'm gonna be late for school! She grabbed some
clothes, ran to the bathroom and took a record breaking shower.
She hurried to the creek and hopped into the rowboat. Wondering if
she should have called Dawson to see if he could cover for her, she rowed
furiously. Trying to forget her headache, she began to think about Dawson.
Dawson and Jen. Jen and Dawson. Jen. It was all her fault, coming into
town like she did, ruining Joey's fairy-tale fantasy. Everyone thought
Joey hated Jen because Dawson liked Jen. That was part of it, but not all
of it. Joey had spent most of her life with Dawson Leery. They knew
everything about each other. They were meant-to-be. Soulmates. Then came
Jen. Beautiful, mysterious, smart, witty, fun, Jen. Joey didn't hate Jen.
She liked Jen... way too much. Suddenly, rather than wondering what it was
like to be kissing Dawson, Joey had found herself wondering what it was
like to be kissing Jen. And that bothered her. That's not how it was
supposed to be. It was supposed to be Joey and Dawson. Dawson and Joey.
That's how it always worked in the movies. That's how it always worked in
Capeside. But Joey wondered.
The boat approached the pier by Dawson's house, her usual rowboat
parking space. As Joey got nearer to it, she saw someone sitting on the
end. It was Jen. What's she doing, doesn't she know what time it is?
Joey slowed the boat and stopped at the other end of the pier. Sensing
someone was near, Jen turned to see Joey securing her boat.
	"Hi," Jen said, uneasily.
"Um, hi. What are you doing out here?"
"I sometimes come out here to think about things. It kinda soothes
the soul, you know?"
"Oh. Do you know you're late for school?" Joey asked, hurrriedly
walking off the pier.
	"It's Saturday."
Joey stopped. Saturday? In her hungover state, she had forgotten
that it was, in fact, Saturday. She turned and walked back onto the pier.
"Oh," was Joey's only spoken reply. She was surprised that Jen
hadn't just let her go all the way to the school and find out for herself.
The girl had already ruined her Dawson Leery fantasy, why not just add to
the fire. She thought about rowing home and going back to sleep, but
something made her want to stay right there, if only for a moment. She sat
next to Jen on the edge of the pier.
"If you're looking to push me in, it's not worth it anymore.
Dawson and I broke up."
Caught off guard, Joey just looked at Jen. It dawned on her that
Jen had been crying.
"You- you what? No, that's not possible. Dawson's crazy about
you. And you're crazy about him. You're both... well, insanely in love."
Jen let out a small laugh, shaking her head. "I guess it doesn't
work out the way you think it should, sometimes."
They sat for a few moments, in silence.
"Well, if it helps, I got pissed drunk and can't remember anything
from yesterday," Joey suddenly said.
Jen giggled, despite herself. "You're not supposed to drink the
punch at those parties."
"Yeah, well, that really helps, now. God, I feel so stupid."
"You, feel stupid? I'm the one who asked my current boyfriend to
let my ex-boyfriend to sleep at his house."
	"Yes, that's pretty stupid."
"Hey!" Jen elbowed Joey, catching Joey offguard and sending her
into the creek. "Oh my God! Joey!"
Joey grabbed the edge of the pier and began to puller herself up.
Jen offered her hand. Joey took it, but rather that pulling herself ontot
he pier, she pulled Jen into the water.
The girls climbed back onto the pier, cold and wet.
"Okay, okay, I deserved that," Jen sighed, catching her breath.
"You did. But so did I. But not as much as you."
	"What's that supposed to mean?"
	"Nevermind."
"No, really. Is it because of the whole Dawson thing?"
	"No... it's just... I... well... it's a long story... I'd better
get home and change out of these," Joey gestured to her sopping clothes.
"Joey, I didn't mean to offend-"
"No, it's fine. I'm just gonna go." She shivered.
"It's freezing. At least let me loan you some dry clothes or
something."
Joey began to protest, but Jen insisted.
"Come on," she said, dragging Joey up to the house, "Grams isn't
even here to make tactless comments. She had to take grandpa up to
Cedarside for some... stuff."
"She actually left you alone in this den of sinnners called
Capeside?"
"Till tomorrow. But that doesn't mean she won't call every two
hour to make sure I'm not running with the foxes."
They went into the house and up to Jen's bedroom.
"It wasn't because of Dawson," Joey spoke as Jen dug through her
closet for dry clothes.
"Oh. You really don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I
just don't like fighting with people and you seemed to hate me since the
day I arrived and I can't stand conflict and I just wanted to be you
friend... I still do." She handed Joey a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans.
	"Thanks."
"There's towels under the sink in the bathroom."
	"Thanks. Where's the bathroom?"
Jen giggled at her own absent minded thought, "Oh yeah, it's down
the hall, second door on the left."
Joey turned to leave the room, but her quick dip in the creek had
left one of her shoes untied and she tripped over the lace, falling to the
floor. Jen rushed to help her up.
	"Are you okay?"
"I think-- ow!" Joey cringed as she tried to put weight on her
left foot.
	"It's not broken, is it?!"
"Ow, no. Sprained. It happens a lot."
"Hang on, I know we have Ace bandages." Jen hurried out of the
room.
Joey glanced around. Jen's room was so picture perfect, it made
her sick. Or she thought it should have made her sick. Actually, Joey
found it to be cute, much like Jen was.
	Jen returned, bandage in hand.
"Um, why don't you change, and then we'll worry about the bandage."
"Okay." Joey began to limp her way toward the door.
"Oh, don't try to walk all the way to the bathroom. You can change
in here. Let me get you a towel. God, I'm so scatterbrained right now,
I'm sorry."
Joey sighed as Jen rushed off to get Joey's towel. "You're not
scatterbrained, Jen," she muttered, under her breath. Jen re-entered with
the towel.
"I am so sorry. This is all my fault. Go ahead, sit down. I feel
so bad about this, Joey, really, I do."
	"Look, Jen. It-"
"Is there anything else I can do? Tea, coffee..."
	"Jen, it's fine. Really."
	"Are you sure?"
"Yes." Joey smiled, "You've been very caring and quick thinking,
and though you did send me into the creek, I appreciate your hospitality.
That's didn't sound like the most idiotic thing ever said, did it?"
Now Jen smiled, "No, it didn't. I just never expected to hear it
from you."
	"Why's that?"
Jen raised her eyebrows, "Why's that? The president of the Dawson
Leery fan club asks, why's that?"
"Oh. Look, there's more to it than that. It's just really
complicated."
	"Isn't it always?"
"It's just that I... Dawson's great and all, but things are
changing... there's more... someone..." Joey was flustered.
"Someone else? Oh really? Who? Pacey?"
"God, no! Pacey is the most annoying person every created. He's
so full of himself. Like-"
	"-most guys?"
	"Yeah."
	"So, it's not him... who?"
	"It's... nothing..."
"Don't worry about it. You don't have to tell me. Beside, we both
need to get out of these wet clothes."
	"Yeah."
Jen got up to leave the room. "Look, Joey, don't worry about it.
You're cute and fun... they'll come around... whoever they are."
"Jen?" Joey asked, as Jen began to shut the door.
	"Yes?"
"I... uh... have you ever... could you bring me some ice for this
ankle?"
	"Sure."
Jen shut the door. Joey shook her head, frustrated at what she had
almost told Jen. She pulled off her right shoe. Frustrated that she
didn't tell Jen. She pulled off her left shoe... carefully. Frustrated at
her clumsiness for getting herself hurt. She peeled off her wet socks.
Jen knocked on the door as she opened it, carrying ice wrapped in a towel.
	"Someone asked for ice?"
	"Thanks... again."
Jen smiled. "Look, I hope I wasn't being too nosy before... I tend
to-"
"You weren't. It's okay." Joey stood up to take the ice from Jen.
Jen motioned for Joey to sit back down, but Joey had already
grabbed the towel, causing Jen to stumble into Joey.
	"Sorry!" exclaimed Joey.
Time stopped momentarily, as they stood there, Joey stared down
into those eyes that she had spent so much time avoiding. Jen gazed back,
though questioningly, there was no sense of apprehension. Eyes closed as
they leaned into each other, the space between them becoming
non-existenent. As their lips were about to meet, neither one remembered
the towel full of ice, and it fell... right onto Joey's ankle.
	"Yeow!"
The moment was over and Joey was reeling in pain. She fell onto
the bed.
"Joey! God, I am so sorry. Again. I feel like such an idiot
today."
	"It's, ow, okay, ow, really."
Neither one of them made eye contact with the other, as if trying
to forget the previous moment.
"I'n gonna let you change. I'll be back in a few." With that. Jen
left the room, shutting the door behind her.
Jen went into the bathroom and began to change out of her wet
clothes. What the hell was I doing? She wasn't new to the idea of kissing
other girls. She had done her share of wild things in New York, but she
just blew it all off as irresponsibility. She herself had told Joey that
she was "100% hetero" because she had never thought about herself as
anything otherwise. Confused as she was, she knew she had feelings for
Joey, but she figured that Joey hated her. But what if that wasn't it at
all? Could she be just as confused as I am? Jen finished changing and
towel dried her hair.
Joey was glad to be in dry clothes again... even if they were
Jen's. There was a knock on the door. Jen entered. Joey ran her fingers
through her wet hair, disgusted.
"Can I borrow a comb or something?"
"No problem." Jen grabbed a comb from the top of her dressed and
tossed it to Joey.
"Thanks. Can I ask you a personal question?"
	"Uh, sure, I guess..."
"Why are you so friggin' nice all the time?"
	"I dunno. It's just how I am I guess..."
	"Oh."
"And... uh... hey, look, about what almost happened before... I,
uh..."
	"Oh... yeah... um..."
They both rambled for a moment. Then Joey spoke up.
"Look, Jen. The reason I was exhibiting all that "anti-Jen"
animosity before was because... because I... kind of had, or have a thing
for you, I guess."
Jen sighed an inner sigh of relief. "You what? A thing for me?"
"I know it's stupid and crazy and you probably want me to leave
now, so I will." Joey stood up, but Jen stopped her. Joey sat back down.
Jen sat next to her.
"Joey, I know we probably got off on the wrong foot to begin with,
or we're confused or just strange or whatever, but that doesn't change any
feeling we might have for each other."
	"For... each other?"
	"Yeah." Jen smiled.
	"So, um... now what?"
Jen didn't say anything. Joey didn't say anything. This time
their lips did meet, no distractions. Jen's kissing me, was the only
thought in Joey's mind. Joey kissed back. While Jen was the more
experienced participant in this realm, Joey seemed to be the more
aggressive one and she teased Jen's lips with her tounge, which Jen
responded to by opening her mouth and allowing their tounges to meet with a
passion neither of them had ever felt before. They sunk onto the bed, Joey
pulling Jen on top of her. Jen's hands rested on Joey's shoulders, while
Joey's hands encircled Jen's waist. She slid her hands up under Jen's
shirt, suprisingly exited by the feel of the other girl's skin. In return,
Jen moved her hands down along the sides of Joey's body, finding the bottom
of the sweatshirt. She broke the kissing long enough to pull the shirt up
over Joey's head.
"Hey, I just put that on."
"Oh. Well, does this help?" Jen pulled her own shirt off.
	Joey grinned, "A little."
The kissing resumed, hands wandering over bras and flesh, then
wandering to the tops of pants. Jen kissed Joey's neck as Joey slyly undid
Jen's fly.
"Oh, so you want those to go to?" Jen asked, eyebrows raised.
"Yep." Joey tugged at the pants, then Jen kicked them onto the
floor, before returning the gesture by removing Joey's jeans.
	"Better?"
	"For now."
Now there was a plethora of skin on skin, a sensation Jen had
experienced, but never had it seemed as exhilirating as it did now. Joey
continued to explore her parnter's body with her fingertips, across arms,
breasts, stomach; a wild hand slid down between Jen's legs, finding it to
be a wet zone. Jen gasped at the sensation, but the hand quickly returned
upward, feeling under the restraints of her bra. Joey tugged at the clasp,
releasing it and pulling it off, then took off her own. Now there were
breasts touching breasts. Jen looked Joey in the eyes with a wicked look.
She kissed Joey on the lips, then the neck, shoulder... then the breast.
Her tounge touched Joey's nipple. It was Joey's turn to gasp. "Jen!" Her
hands were still wandering Jen's body, but Jen grabbed them, holding them
down at Joey's sides while she continued to lick and suckle Joey's nipple.
Joey moaned. Then Jen began to kiss her way back up to Joey's mouth. Joey
wriggled her way out of Jen's grasp and wrapped her arms around her neck.
She could feel Jen's wet panties touching her skin.
"Can we get rid of those, too?"
"Nothing's ever enough for you, is it?" Jen teased.
Quicker than quick, the underwear was no longer an issue. Their
bodies entwined, they felt each other's hot core on their thighs. Joey
felt a surge of excitment, pressing herself into Jen's leg, as Jen did the
same. Grinding into each other, they both could sense the results of their
actions building up inside. Joey's breathing became quick and heavy, with
Jen's breathing doing much the same. Joey suddenly felt a white hot
explosion of energy surging through her body. "Oh, god, Jen!" Jen could
feel Joey's excitement on herself, which pushed her over the edge like she
had never felt before. They lay there in each other's arms, time catching
up to them. Jen kissed Joey on the cheek.
"How's that ankle, now?" she asked, caressing Joey's cheek.
"Ankle? Oh, that. Fine, I think."
They giggled, then fell into a peaceful sleep.
	It was, after all, Saturday.
