Bill and Sarah were continuing to Chicago for a wedding over the weekend. Mrs. Abbott had taken advantage of available space in the Garry's car. Mrs. Abbott had arranged for Shannon to be at home around three thirty so that the Garry's could drop off her belongings. At the far side of campus, Rabbit and couple of other co-eds rented a three-bedroom ranch house. The owner was a former professor that retired to Florida and kept the house as student rental property. This was the second year that Shannon had lived in the house with four roommates. AJ had been a roommate last year, but decided that there were too many people in the house this year. Bill pulled in the drive of a small ranch house. There were a couple of cars in the driveway. Shannon popped out of the house through the garage door. She looked like the typical college student. A bikini top on and a pair of soccer shorts. "You found it." She said as Keegan got out of the car. "Dear God what did my mother send." "Everything including the kitchen sink." Bill said as he opened the trunk. "It's not that much. Some of this stuff is Kee's. The rest is going with us to Chicago." Bill handed a box to Shannon and another to Keegan. "Do you want us to take you to the dorm?" "Hang out here. I really haven't had a chance to catch up with you. I can run you back later." Shannon smiled at Keegan. Keegan shook her head at her teasing friend. "We have a pool." Keegan laughed. They had unloaded in no time. Keegan gave Bill a hug and kiss. Sarah hugged and squeezed her. "I can't believe you are going away to school. It wasn't reality before. We will be up for the weekend games. I have a schedule. So I'll let you know if we are going to make it to some of the other games. I love you." Sarah kissed her and got into the car. "Behave in Chicago. I don't want to have to bail out of jail or any thing. Be careful." Keegan called out as they backed out of the driveway. Keegan followed Rabbit into the kitchen of the house. It was extremely nice with ceramic tile on the floors and rich oak cabinets. The sink was a double basin black that matched the refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. Rabbit sat at the small round table that was positioned next to a large picture window that framed the backyard. Keegan took a seat across from her and set her head down on the table. "What is going on between you and Gwen?" Rabbit asked with a smile. "Don't give the "roommate" story". Keegan lifted her head. She was full of all of these feelings. She wanted Gwen. She wanted to be with her. She just did not want to get hurt. She was hurt. "God, Shannon. Have you ever met someone who you are just connected too?" Rabbit nodded. "I just feel connected to Gwen. I saw her the first time and thought she is out of my league or straight." Keegan wiped away the tears of frustration. "I think I just blew it with her." Keegan wiped her tears on her forearm. "I told her that what we had was no big deal. That she was trying to get me into this drama with her and AJ" "I am not sure if this helps, but Gwen and AJ are always on thin ice. If AJ was a guy, she couldn't keep her dick in her pocket. I have had many a weekend of Gwen crying on my shoulder about AJ." Rabbit got bottled water from the refrigerator. "Do you want one? If you and Gwen are supposed to be together than it will work out. AJ is not exactly the team favorite." Rabbit said. "Majority of the team see through her act. Most of us feel really bad for Gwen. AJ treats her like shit." Keegan looked at Rabbit she was at the brink. "Its just frustrating." Keegan said as tears flowed. "I really like her Shannon. I don't want to get hurt, but I am hurting already." Shannon gave her a hug. "I feel like an idiot." Keegan wiped her eyes. Keegan was glad to have a friend at school. She and Shannon had known each other for a few years. She had cried on Shannon's shoulder about Sandy when they were in Columbus on a tournament. Shannon was a couple years older and looked at Keegan as a little sister. "You need to go out tonight." Rabbit said. "Sweety, don't let someone like AJ bring you down. Gwen is a good girl. She is not Sandy." Keegan nodded as she got up and headed outside. She walked through the garage and into the backyard of Rabbit's house. A six-foot wooden fence enclosed the back yard in. A built in swimming pool was directly off the garage and behind half of the house. A small four-foot chain linked fence separated the pool from lawn area. "How much do you pay in rent?" Keegan asked as she looked at the set backyard and the house. "An arm and a leg, but there are five of use who rent this place together." Rabbit said from the kitchen window. "Its ends up being $400 a piece plus utilities. Go ahead in if you want." Rabbit told her. Keegan touched her foot in the water. Suddenly she was pushed into the water. Keegan plunged into the cool blue liquid. She touched the bottom and popped back up to the surface. She looked to see who had pushed her. "That's for scoring on me." Rose, the goalkeeper stood at the pool edge. "Remember you may be really talented but you are still a freshman. " Rose scolded her. "How was your week? I see your lip is healed." "Hello Rose. Good and its fine." "She and AJ got into it after we left on Friday" Rabbit walked outside with a couple of towels and a pitcher of water. "Tell her Kee." "That heifer was supposed to apologize instead she went off like a crazy person." Keegan swam over to the side and pulled herself out of the pool. She took her shirt off and hung it on the fence to dry. "Man, she's got it out for you." Rose made the comment as she stripped down into her swimsuit. Keegan left on her shorts and sports bra. "Keegan likes Gwen. " Rabbit said with a smile. "Gwen likes Keegan." She handed Rose a bottle of water. "That explains a lot" Rose said as she lowered herself into the shallow end of the pool. "AJ's prize finally had enough." Keegan jumped into the pool. She did not want to hear about how AJ took advantage of Gwen. She swam to the far side of the pool and back. "Gwen hates me at this point. If I was her I would hate me." Keegan said regretting the conversation that took place on Friday. "What should I do?" She finally asked to the upper classmen. "I don't know what to do?" "Do you really like her or is this just something to piss AJ off?" Rose asked. "I didn't even know if Gwen was gay for sure until last Thursday." Keegan said as she floated on a noodle. "What happen last Thursday?" Rose asked. The goalkeeper immediately regretted her words as they left her mouth. "Never mind...I had to watch you two all last week. I am glad for you." "When did you talk to her last?" " Before I left on Friday. I said things that I wish I could take back. I shut down when I saw AJ kissing her." "Is this the first time you saw them kissing?" Rabbit asked with skepticism. "Yeah, it was." Keegan thought about all the times that she had seen Gwen and AJ together. They had never even touched. "AJ has a way of making the situation work to her advantage." Rose chimed in. "She takes advantage of any situation especially if it hurts someone else." " I knew Gwen was hurt but I was hurt too." Thoughts of Sandy flashed through her mind. "Rabbit you know how it was with Sandy. I just accepted it because I loved her. I can't go through that again. I will not be involved with a player." "Keegan, " Rabbit entered the pool with a water in one hand and the cordless phone in the other. "Gwen Lerner is not Sandy Creed. Period. You need to realize that. If you want to compare someone to Sandy it would be AJ." Rabbit settled on a raft. "Sandy is Keegan's ex. How many years were you together?" Rabbit explained to Rose the reference. "Three." Keegan leaned back and put her head in the water. "It was pure hell. I do not want that ever again." "She was really hot. I wish she could see you now." Rabbit said as picked up the phone. Rabbit lead the way with Keegan sandwiched between her and Rose. They greeted the bouncer. He laughed as Rabbit reached for her id. The owner of the club Lynn Webb had opened the place four years ago. She relied heavily on the university students to make the club a success. Shannon and Rose were very popular on campus and they brought people to the club. Lynn was grateful to the business. Rose waved a few people as the walked towards a table near the poolroom. There was a large bar towards the front door that ran the length of the wall. The area furthest from the door was the poolroom. There were three tables and a Golden Tee golf game. The crowd was pretty mixed. There were a couple of open stools at the bar next to a couple of guys. Rose smiled and waved a tall blonde who was playing pool. "You were here last week?" Rabbit called Keegan's uneasiness out. "Yeah, but it wasn't as crowded." Keegan glanced around. She was enjoying the club. She needed to relax and enjoy. "You have never danced with a woman have you?" Rabbit teased. She shook her head. She had wanted to dance with Sandy at the Homecoming dance but she dared not to do it. Keegan felt a tap on her shoulder. She found a small dark haired woman from the tennis court smiling at her. "Would you like to dance?" The woman asked. "Maybe later." Keegan smiled at her. She did not want to hurt her feelings but dancing with a complete stranger at this time was not anything she wanted at this time. The woman nodded and walked away. Rose got up and went to the bar to get drinks. Keegan followed the tall red head as walked towards the bar. Rose stopped and began to talk with a group of women. Gwen was one of them. Keegan heart lurched. She should go and speak with her or at least say hello. She had tried to call Gwen a couple of times, but she wasn't able to get phone service in U.P. She motioned to Rabbit that she was going to talk with Gwen. Keegan crossed half the distance to the group of women when she saw AJ in the group. Her hand rested lightly on Gwen's hip. "Hey." Keegan said as she tapped Gwen's arm. Gwen turned and looked at her. There was total surprise in her reaction. AJ ignored her but grabbed onto Gwen's hips with both hands. Keegan thought of what Rabbit and Rose had said earlier about AJ taking advantage of the situation. "Sorry, I just wanted to say hello. I didn't want you to be surprised at the room." Gwen did not respond. "I just got back today. Okay, well maybe I'll see you later." Keegan nodded to the other women. She turned and headed back to the table where Rabbit was sitting. "That was interesting." Rose said as Keegan sat at the table. Keegan looked at Rose. "AJ tried to pull Gwen towards her and Gwen pushed her off." "Okay..okay" Keegan said out loud. Her mind reeled as she took a sip of the beer in front of her. "Don't look over there." She snapped at Rose. "Getting pretty bossy." Rose pointed out as she drank her beer. "Our season doesn't officially start until Monday. You should have the team over on Saturday for a cook out." She said to Rabbit. "Remember that I am a poor college student also." "Have everyone bring their own drinks and food. Besides it's going to be a hundred degrees on Saturday." Rose took a sip of her beer. "It's a possibility." Rabbit said as her eyes went to the door. "Your roommate is heading this way." Keegan stopped drinking her beer at Rabbit's comment. She wanted to see Gwen's reaction. Being in at Déjà vu made her crave Gwen's presence. Her stomach dropped thinking about dancing with Gwen in her arms. Keegan steadied herself for the conversation with Gwen. She turned towards the door and saw Tara Washington walking towards them. The thought of AJ and Gwen together really pissed Keegan off. "Ease down. What ever thoughts are going through that head of yours." Rabbit saw the change in Keegan's demeanor. "I am over thinking. I'll be right back." Keegan got up and headed towards the bathroom. The music was loud and a heavy bass pounded. In the back hallway she was feeling desperate. She did not want to lose Gwen even if she had to share her. She leaned her head on the wall. She should have called Gwen earlier. Keegan would have to sit and watch them all night. "Hi." Gwen stood next to her. "I was shocked to see you." "I want to talk to you." Keegan said in desperation. "I am not sure if talking is what we need, Kee." Gwen's statement made her stomach lurch. She leaned against the wall. She tried to hide the disappointment in her voice. "I understand." Keegan choked out. "Gwen, I am sorry for what I said. I wish that things could be different." She stood in front of Gwen. Her knees were weak. A thousand scenarios played out in her head. She stood frozen. "We really don't need to talk." Gwen said matter of factly. Keegan put her head down and her shoulder's slumped a bit. "I wanted to tell you that I am sorry." Keegan said as she looked at the floor. "I hurt you. I don't want to lose you. I .." Gwen stopped in the middle of her sentence. "I know what you saw but it was not like that. " She leaned closer to Keegan. "I missed you." Gwen said her voice was next to Keegan's ear. She had moved closer and pushed her hips against Keegan's. She tilted Keegan's head upward kissed her lips. There was slight pain stinging her lip, which caused Keegan to flinch. "She let me know that it would be a good thing if I came here tonight. Kee, Allison James will be part of our lives, not by choice but she will always be around. We can hide or we can face her. Each time she would smile and point back to the table. She would wave to Keegan. She got the drinks quickly and was heading back when Tara and her girlfriend stopped her. There was a smile and a wave. Gwen nodded as she spoke to the couple. Her head titled back in laughter. She continued back to the table. She placed the beers on the table. She slid in next to Keegan. "Keegan, we need to leave here soon." Gwen said as her leg pushed against Keegan's thigh. "All these single girls are asking who you are and if we are a couple." "What was your answer?" Keegan asked.
