dinner, Kerri had one more shop to visit. This turned out to be a lingerie
shop.
"Just stay here, I'll be back in a minute." Kerri told her as
Rhianna started to get out.
"Why?" Rhianna asked more than a little confused.
"Because I'm going to get something sexy for you, silly and I want
it to be a surprise." Kerri told her with a wink.
"But you got me enough already and besides we sleep naked." Rhianna
told her but Kerri had already gotten out and was closing the door.
Kerri gave her a little grin as she turned around, leaving Rhianna
sitting in the car, wondering just what Kerri was up to. She knew better
than to ask Kerri as Kerri would tell her when and only when she wanted her
to know.
Friday morning they packed their bags and then put Margret in the
car with her feeding bowls and her food. Margret was excited as she knew
something was going on and she loved to ride in Kerri's Ford Escape. But
the trip was short as they only went down the road to Aliza's. They dropped
Margret off with Aliza and her three girls. If Margret was disappointed
with the short ride, she didn't show it as she ran to the girls and started
to eat up the attention that they were giving to her. They talked with
Aliza for a while and then as they left they stopped to give Margret a hug
and they promised to bring the girls back lots of presents from Chicago
which made the girls very happy, of course.
The next stop was at the private terminal in Aloca, where the
Knoxville airport was located. They parked the Escape and took their bags
into the small terminal. They did not have to sit long before a sleek
little Learjet landed. They had to wait for the jet to be refueled and
serviced then a young pretty woman dressed in a uniform came to get them.
"Hi, my mane is Melissa and I'll be your pilot today. It looks like
the weather will be clear all the way to Chicago so it should be a smooth
ride."
"Thank god for small wonders." Kerri said as she bent down to get
her bags.
"Something tells me that you're a nervous flyer." Melissa said as
she reached to help with the bags.
"No, actually I'm a scared shitless flyer." Kerri said with nervous
laugh.
"Don't worry; I'll get you there safe and sound." Melissa said with
the ever present smile never leaving her face.
"I'll take care of you." Rhianna told her and she leaned over and
gave Kerri a quick kiss.
"You'd better, you are the one got me into this." Kerri told her.
"I know." Rhianna replied not letting Kerri's remark get to her. She
had been beside a lot of scared flyers as she flew back and forth from home
to school.
The trip was smooth all the way up to Chicago just as Melissa said
that it would be and she turned out to be a great pilot as she made the jet
seem to glide into the air and she let the plane gain attitude slowly thus
not pressing her two passengers back into their seats. But even with the
smooth ride, Kerri kept a tight grip on Rhianna's hand from liftoff to the
gentle landing. Melissa then helped them get their luggage and guided them
into the terminal at O'Hare Airport. The terminal was slightly crowded and
they searched around for Kerri's editor who was supposed to be meeting
them. Not that Rhianna was much help as all she knew was that the editor
was suppose to be an older lady. They stopped in the middle of the
terminal and looked around and then Rhianna saw Kerri's eyes light up. She
followed Kerri's eyes to a lady who looked to be in her late forties. She
was an attractive woman wearing a dark blue pant suit. Her hair was
partially grey and she appeared to be carrying a few extra pounds but what
Rhianna noticed most was that she looked like someone's kind aunt. She had
that caring look in her eyes that made you want to curl up in her arms and
she would make all your problems go away. Kerri let go of her hand and she
ran to the woman and she watched as they hugged each other tightly. Rhianna
knew there was a lot more to Kerri's and her editor's relationship than
just editor and writer. There was a deep friendship and respect for each
other. Rhianna held back and let them have their time together. She didn't
want to intrude until they had their time together. She watched as they
hugged and talked for a few minutes and then they hugged again.
This time as they parted, she saw them both wipe a tear from their
eyes. They then headed in her direction and Rhianna suddenly got a little
nervous. She wanted to make a good impression on Kerr's editor.
"So I guess you're Kerri's new ball busting assistant that she has
been telling me about." The editor said with a big smile on her face and
Rhianna felt her face turn red.
"I'm not her ass..." Rhianna started to say assistant but then she
knew that if she said that then Kerri's editor would guess what their
relationship really was.
"You're not her assistant and you're not a ball buster." The editor
said laughing. "Kerri has told me all about you and I'm glad she found
someone nice to be with. And I really glad that she found someone that had
enough balls to get her to finally come to one of our shows, for that I'm
truly beholding to you. So if you even need anything, then you can give me
a call."
"Thank you, I appreciate that..." Rhianna said and then she was
stuck as she had no idea as to what the lady's name was. Kerri had always
just referred to her as her editor.
"Hasn't Kerri told you my name girl?" the editor asked.
"Well..." Rhianna started to say but the Kerri finally spoke up.
"No, I always called you 'that bitch' or 'my asshole of a editor'."
Kerri said with a laugh.
"That is probably the only truthful thing you have said since I've
know you."She told Kerri then she turned to Rhianna and said "My name is
Leeann Riley or 'the bitch'"
Rhianna laughed and said, "I think I'll stick with Leeann."
"That's good because Kerri is the only one that can call me a bitch
and get away with it." Leeann said with another laugh and then she came to
Rhianna and gave her a hug.
"I hear you're a writer too, I'd love to read something that you've
written sometime." Leeann told her as they got their bags and started for
the exit.
"I'd like that, when I write something worth your time, I'll send it
to you." Rhianna told her.
"Actually, I've brought something with me that she has just written
that I want you to read." Kerri told Leeann.
"No not that story!" Rhianna told Kerri as she about shit a brick
thinking about someone other than Kerri reading her erotic story.
"Yes that story, I think it's great and it will give Leeann an idea
as to your writing ability.
"But is has..." Rhianna said and then she didn't know how to tell
Leeann that it contained lots of lesbian lovemaking.
"Honey, I'm read just about everything there is to read so don't
worry about it. I'll read it today and let you both know tonight what I
think of it at the Cubs game. I got you box tickets just like you asked."
Leeann told her.
"Thanks for reading the story and for the tickets, I do appreciate
it." Rhianna told her.
"Hell it was worth it to get Kerri up here." Leeann told her.
"See I told you that she'd give me the moon to get me up here."
Kerri said with a twinkle in her eyes.
"I see someone's awfully full of herself today. We may have to put
our boots on to keep the shit that Kerri is spewing out off our feet."
Leeann said laughing.
"You know you love me." Kerri told her.
"That I do but you're still full of shit and you know it." Leeann
said laughing.
"She is full of shit most of the time, you're right about that."
Rhianna said to Leeann and she gave a wink to Kerri.
"Oh great, I'm going to be stuck up here all week with you both
giving me hell the whole time." Kerri said with a pout on her face.
"You love the attention and you know it." Leeann told her as they
got to her Lincoln Towncar.
This got a laugh from all of them and the trip to the hotel was
filled with Leeann and Kerri sniping at each other but they did it as old
friends who loved to get the other one going. Rhianna sat in the back seat
listening and taking in the city as they passed by the huge
buildings. Leeann helped them settle into their suite and then she headed
back to where the show was supposed to be held to check up on things.
Rhianna kept an eye on Kerri and she could see that underneath the
happy face that Kerri had put on her face, there was a bit of fear and
sadness. Rhianna tried to keep things light and happy as she put away their
clothes and arraigned for their new dresses and suits for the show were
sent out to be cleaned and pressed. Leeann had told them that everything
was being paid for by the publishing firm and Rhianna was still hesitant
about taking advantage of their hospitality until Kerri told her just how
many book that the firm had sold of hers and how much they made off of
them. Rhianna did the math in her head and she realized just what a money
maker Kerri was to the firm so keeping her happy was worth any expense. The
critics may not give her books much play but her fans did and she had a lot
of fans. Plus she wrote at least two books a year, so that added up to a
lot of money. From that point on, Rhianna decided that they would take
advantage of whatever was offered to them. Once everything was put away and
the maid had picked up their clothes, Rhianna suggested that they take a
bath together. The tub was huge and she had to admit a little afternoon
delight might be in order.
They went into the bathroom and Rhianna got the water running. They
both slowly took off their clothes and once the water got high enough, they
stepped into the tub. Kerri sat with her back against the far end of the
tub and after turned on the water jets, she turned and sat down with her
back to Kerri. She then slid back and she felt Kerri wrap her arms around
her with her arms folded just under Rhianna's breasts. They sat there for
a while just soaking and letting the water relax them. After a while
Rhianna started to feel a little frisky and she started to run her fingers
along Kerri's thighs hoping that Kerri would take a hint but Kerri just
kept her hands in place and she didn't move them up to Rhianna's breasts as
Rhianna expected her to do. Kerri was always ready to have a little fun but
on this day she didn't seem to be taking charge as she usually did. Rhianna
wasn't sure what to make of this so she decided to give Kerri a stronger
hint. She turned to her side and looked up into Kerri's eyes and she rose
up to kiss her. Kerri returned the kiss but she still didn't move her hands
to anywhere Rhianna wanted them. Rhianna wasn't sure what to do next.
"Can you just hold me and keep me close this trip?" Kerri asked in
almost a whisper.
"I will, I promise." Rhianna said as she settled into Kerri's arms
and she put her arms around her in return. As she lay there, Rhianna
thought about Kerri's words and how she had said this trip and not just
right now. Rhianna decided to just let Kerri decide when and if they would
make love but Rhianna knew then that it would probably be when they were
back in Tennessee before they made love again. But she could live with
that, as she wanted to give Kerri just what she needed on this
trip. Rhianna lay her head against Kerri's shoulder and she could feel her
body seem to melt into Kerri' body and she felt like they were one. It was
with this feeling that Rhianna fell asleep. She wasn't sure how long she
had slept but she woke to Kerri kissing her on the forehead and saying,
"Baby wake up, the bitch will be here soon to take us to the ballgame."
Rhianna woke up smiling hearing Kerri call Leeann the bitch. "You
like calling Leeann that don't you."
"Just wait till she returns the same book back to you three times
for editing and changes and you'll be calling her a bitch too." Kerri said
with a little laugh.
"But you like her don't you, I mean she been a good friend to you
hasn't she?"
"You won't find a better friend than Leeann, she'll do anything for
you, god knows that I can never repay for everything that she has done for
me." Kerri said and Rhianna could see a passing moment of deep sadness pass
over her face.
"Then that's good enough for me, anyone who has the patience to be
your friend and to help you out has to be a wondrous and gentle soul."
Rhianna said as she looked up at Kerri with a devious smile on her face
trying to take the sadness away.
"How come that sounded more like a dig at me than a compliment to
Leeann?" Kerri asked as she arched her eyebrows.
"Oh it was very much a compliment to Leeann... and a dig at you."
Rhianna said and then she couldn't help laughing.
"Oh you're trying to be funny now are you?" Kerri asked.
"Yep," Rhianna said as she scooted up in the tub and gave Kerri a
long sweet kiss.
"I was about to say that since you were being so mean to me that I
had decided not to help you wash your hair but I think that kiss has made
me change my mind." Kerri said and that made Rhianna smile. She then gave
Kerri another kiss and she turned in the tub to let Kerri wash her hair.
Rhianna was so excited as she gave her ticket to the attendant and
then she entered Wrigley Field for the first time. Her eyes were taking in
everything as she walked in. Kerri and Leeann wanted to stop at a
restaurant and eat before coming to the game but Rhianna wasn't having any
of that. She told them in no uncertain terms that when you went to a ball
game, you ate hotdogs. Rhianna wasn't a big baseball fan but she had grown
up listening to her father talking about the game he had once attended here
and she wanted to do the same. Leeann and Kerri walked behind her and
talked as Rhianna went to the concession stand and got them all cokes and
hotdogs. She was going to get them a beer but Kerri said that she didn't
drink and Leeann politely refused. They carried their food up to their
seats and sat down to eat as they watched batting practice.
"I read your story this afternoon." Leeann told Rhianna just as she
was about to swallow the last bite of her hotdog. Rhianna's body froze in
fear and the dog got hung in her throat and she started to choke. Kerri had
to slap her on the back to get the bite back out of her throat. Luckily the
bite hadn't gone down too far so she was able to easily cough it back up.
"Child, I didn't mean to get you choked." Leeann said.
"That's okay, what did you think of it." Rhianna asked her half
afraid of her answer.
"I liked it; I think that you have a flair for writing lesbian
erotica. I would love to read more of those stories and if you get enough
of them then maybe we can get them published." Leeann told her.
"Are you serious, you actually liked it?" Rhianna asked more than a
little surprised and very excited at the prospect of being published.
"Yes I liked it, I would have told you if I didn't, I would have
been nice about it and let you down easy but I would have told you." Leeann
told her.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to question you but that was my first real
try at writing anything like that and Kerri is the one that made me put in
the more erotic parts. I just wasn't sure that it was all that great. I
mean I liked it but that doesn't mean anyone else would." Rhianna told her.
"Well I liked it, but it does need a little editing and some minor
changes made, of course." Leeann told her.
"And the bitch emerges just like I told you." Kerri said with a
laugh.
"Shut up Kerri, I wasn't talking to you now was I?" Leeann told
Kerri but that only made Kerri laugh and then they all joined in.
"I didn't know that your company published lesbian erotica." Rhianna
said as the laughter died down.
"Oh we don't but I know someone that does. It's a very good company
and I can still be your editor if you like." Leeann told her.
"I would love that, thank you." Rhianna told her feeling so good and
she saw Kerri beaming at her and she knew that Kerri had intended for that
to happen all along. That was why she brought the story to Leeann in the
first place. Rhianna wanted to give Kerri a big kiss but about that time
the umpire shouted out "Play Ball" and the game began.
Rhianna talked all the way home about the game and then while Kerri
was in the bathroom getting ready for bed, she called her dad to tell him
all about the game. She was just hanging up the phone when Kerri came out
of the bedroom wearing her long silk nightgown.
"Oh fuck girl, your beautiful!" Rhianna exclaimed.
"Thank you," Kerri said and Rhianna actually saw Kerri blush for the
first time since she had known her. "The bathroom's free." Kerri then said
to change the subject off of her.
Rhianna smiled and she first went to Kerri and gave her a sweet kiss
and then she headed for the bathroom. Once there she found a silk nightgown
for her, it was similar in style as Kerri's but it had a deeper neckline
and it had a few more frills on it. Rhianna jumped into the shower and she
took a quick shower. When she got out, she dried her body and hair and put
a touch of perfume on. She opened the door and she found Kerri already in
the bed and she heard Kerri whistle at her. This made her blush but it also
made her smile. She went over to the nightstand and turned off the light
and then she slipped into bed with Kerri. She cuddled up close and she gave
Kerri a kiss that ended much soon. Kerri then pulled her in close and
Rhianna laid her head on Kerri's chest and they soon feel asleep.
The next morning Kerri and Rhianna met Leeann at the front entrance
and they toured the city, having lunch at a five star restaurant. It was
one of those restaurants where the price of each dish wasn't listed on the
menu. It was one of those things that if you needed to know how much it
cost, then you didn't need to be there in the first place. Rhianna enjoyed
the food and it was good, but the place was too stuffy for her taste. She
would have been just as happy to go to an old dive that served regular
food. The afternoon was spent visiting the regular tourist places. Then
that night they went to bed in their nightgowns and slept up close to each
other. But that night Rhianna was awaken by Kerri twisting and turning in
the bed. Her night gown was soaked in sweat and Kerri was crying out in her
sleep but Rhianna couldn't understand what she was saying. Rhianna started
to talk to her calmly and with a steady rhythm. Slowly Kerri began to calm
down but then her eyes burst open wide and she cried out, "oh god Nooo..."
"Kerri, it's me. You're just having a bad dream." Rhianna told her
and she placed a hand to her face.
Kerri looked at her and for a second, it looked as if Kerri didn't
recognize her but then her eyes began to focus and Kerri gripped her
tightly.
"It was just a bad dream baby." Rhianna told her as she kissed her
face. "Everything's okay now, nothing bad is going to happen, I'm here
now." Rhianna kissed her face over and over again until Kerri finally
calmed down.
"What was the dream about?" Rhianna asked her after Kerri's
breathing slowed down and became normal again.
"I don't remember now, it was something about school and not having
my homework done." Kerri told her.
Rhianna knew that Kerri was lying through her teeth but she let it
go. "I hate those dreams." She just said and she saw the relief on Kerri's
face when she didn't press her. Rhianna knew that someday she would have to
do just that.
Rhianna sat up in the bed and she turned on the bedside lamp on low
and then she got out of the bed. She went into the bathroom and got a
washcloth and wet it with cool water. Then on her way back in, she got an
extra gown for Kerri to wear. She brought it over and she sat down by
Kerri, who was now sitting up in the bed holding her knees close to
her. She started to pull Kerri's sweat soaked gown off of her and Kerri let
her without saying a word. She then took the wet cloth and she tenderly
wiped the sweat off of Kerri's body. She could tell that Kerri was still
upset by her dream but she was beginning to come back to herself. Once she
was done, she helped Kerri back into the clean and dry nightgown and she
kissed her gently on the lips. This brought a soft but sad smile from Kerri
and Rhianna eased her back down into the bed. She turned off the light and
she snuggled back in close to her.
"Go back to sleep baby, the dream is over and I'm here now. It'll be
okay." Rhianna told her as she kissed her forehead.
"Thank you honey," Kerri told her as she snuggled back in closer.
Rhianna held her tight and soon Kerri was able to fall back to sleep
and she fell asleep with her.
"Tell me again why we are going to help Leeann with getting the
conference center set up for the show tomorrow. You realize that we are
going to be there for twelve hours a day for the next three days." Kerri
asked Rhianna as they walked out of the hotel.
"Yes I know but Leeann is your friend and she needs our help."
Rhianna told her.
"Personally I think your just sucking up to her so that she will get
some of your stories published." Kerri said with a sort of sneer on her
face.
"I'm doing no such thing and I can't believe that you say such a
thing about me. You know me better than that." Rhianna said as she stopped
in her tracks and she looked at Kerri with a horrified look on her
face. She was really pissed off at Kerri's remark until she saw Kerri start
to smile and then Kerri's face broke out with a laugh.
"Yep, I still got it, pushed your button on the first try of the
morning." Kerri said as she wrapped her arm around Rhianna's waist.
"One of these days I'm not going to yell, I'm going to just rare
back and knock the shit out of you." Rhianna told her.
"I know and I will deserve it but until then I'll enjoy pushing your
buttons." Kerri said and she gave Rhianna a little kiss.
"To the moon Alice, to the moon." Rhianna said doing a perfect
Jackie Gleason imitation.
When they got to the convention center, they found Leeann running
from one booth to another trying to get everything just so. Her hair was
all messed up and she looked like she wanted to kill someone. As Kerri went
to her and tried to get her calmed down, Rhianna went and got them some
coffee. Kerri then made Leeann sit and talk with her. Slowly Rhianna
watched as Leeann's flushed face returned back to its normal
complexion. Kerri even got her to laugh and Rhianna could see that Leeann's
assistant was relieved to see Leeann calm and not hollering at her. Once
Leeann was calm, Kerri and Rhianna went with her as she toured the floor.
Every time Leeann want to make a major change, Kerri would convince her
that a minor change would do just as well. Rhianna could see that Leeann's
Assistant wanted to kiss Kerri every time she convinced Leeann to do
something less. At the end of lunch, Leeann had to leave to get things set
up for the evening party. This left Kerri and Rhianna on their own. Rhianna
talked Kerri into going ahead and set up her booth and that way they could
arrive later in the morning on Monday. Besides Rhianna wanted to put her
own touches on Kerri's booth and this would give her more time to do
it. They worked through the afternoon and Rhianna let Kerri put the books
and posters as she wanted to but she did make those little changes that she
could see was her own. She knew that Kerri knew what she was doing but she
didn't say a thing. Rhianna was what got her to come so she should have a
say as to what the booth looked like.
"You know Leeann gave you the best place on the floor. When people
come through the doors, your booth will be the first one they see." Rhianna
told Kerri as they turned at the door as they were leaving to see what the
booth looked like from a distance.
"The bitch did, didn't she?" Kerri said as she looked at the booth
that was at the end and was sitting slightly higher than any of the other
author's booths.
"Yes she did, she knows how to take care of her best author."
Rhianna told Kerri.
"Nah, she just trying to make sure I go to the show next year in
Denver." Kerri told her.
"Actually she gave that job to me." Rhianna said laughing as Kerri
gave her a mean look but then she laughed.
That evening they put on their evening dresses and got made up for
the kick off dinner and party. Rhianna could tell that Kerri was nervous as
they entered the big dining room and there were authors and critics milling
around with drinks in their hands. Rhianna quickly got them glasses of
soda to drink and she kept by Kerri's side the whole evening. They left the
party early so when they got to the hotel room, Rhianna suggested that they
soak in the tub for a while. This Kerri readily agreed to so they stripped
as got the water going. They had been in the tub soaking for a while before
Rhianna started to see the strain of the evening begin to fade from Kerri's
eyes.
They got to the show a little before nine and there was already a
long line of fans waiting to get into the large conference room. Rhianna
was more than a little sleepy as Kerri had kept her up most of the night
having bad dreams again. Kerri never woke up from the dreams but Rhianna
had to keep whispering to her that she was there and that seemed to calm
Kerri down a little, at least enough for Rhianna to get back to sleep only
to be woken up a little later by another of Kerri's dreams. For all her
tossing and turning, Kerri seemed to be refreshed and ready to tackle the
day. But at the same time Kerri made sure that Rhianna was near her all the
times. When the doors opened, all the fans came pouring into the large
room, they all scattered going to their favorite's authors and Rhianna was
pleased to see that a line was quickly developing in front of Kerri'
booth. There were mostly women and teenage girls who wanted Kerri to sign
their books or sign one of Kerri's new books that she had on
displayed. Rhianna was kept busy with supplying Keri with books to sign and
later on in the morning Leeann came by to see how they were doing.
"She's doing well isn't she?" Leeann whispered to Rhianna as they
stood to the side where they could talk without Kerri hearing them.
"She would never admit it but I think she's enjoying the attention."
Rhianna told Leeann.
"Oh no, I'm the bitch from hell, she would never admit that I was
right about her coming here." Leeann said with a smile.
"I hate that she calls you that." Rhianna told Leeann.
"Oh I don't mind, it fact I think of it as a term of
endearment. Besides she knows if she goes too far, I would take her over my
knee and give her a good thrashing." Leeann said with a laugh.
"You probably would too wouldn't you." Rhianna told her laughing.
"That goes for you too young lady." Leeann said as she strode off
and Rhianna laughed at first but then when she saw Leeann arching her
eyebrows at her, Rhianna realized that Leeann was partially serious.
That night they only stopped for a few seconds at the social after
the show ended for the day. They were both tired and neither was in the
mood to socialize with the other authors that seemed to have taken a
dislike to Kerri. But then they thought that their books were better than
Kerri's but she was getting more people coming to her booth. She was also
outselling them by a large margin. Her sales alone would pay for this show
that the publishing company was putting on. Once they made their exit, they
took a cab to an Old Italian restaurant downtown that they had heard served
great food. They took their time and just enjoyed the food and they got to
talk about the show. Rhianna was pleased that Kerri seemed to have enjoyed
talking to her fans and to the young woman who were just now starting to
read about the adventures of Sid. She said that she had never realized the
impact that her books had on the young women and she felt good knowing that
she was finally doing something good. Rhianna had hoped that Kerri would
elaborate on what she meant but Kerri quickly changed the subject and
Rhianna didn't want to spoil Kerri's good mood. That evening they shared
and long shower but other than some sensual kissing, nothing else happened
other than sleep which Kerri did without all the bad dreams.
The next morning, Kerri had them both up early and they got to the
show an hour early. Rhianna was pleased to see that Kerri was excited about
getting the day started. When the doors opened, the line quickly formed in
front of Kerri drawing the evil stares of the other authors.
Later that morning, Rhianna was standing to the side of Kerri when
she noticed a young girl that appeared to be about fourteen peeking from
behind an older woman. The woman kept trying to get the girl to stand in
front of her but the girl wouldn't. Instead she kept trying to get a look
at Kerri from behind the woman who was obviously her mother. Rhianna
started to point to girl out to Kerri but then she noticed that every time
the girl would look from behind her mother, Kerri would lean over so the
girl could see her clearly. The line moved slowly as Kerri signed copies of
her books and she talked a moment to each girl or woman and sometimes
fathers who had brought their daughters to see Kerri. Finally the girl's
mother was standing in front of her.
"My daughter would love for you to sign her favorite book of yours."
The mother told Kerri.
"What's your name honey?" Kerri asked with the sweetest smile on her
face.
"Tell her honey." The girl's mother aid as she tried to get the girl
to come from behind of her.
"I promise that I don't bite." Kerri said sweetly.
The girl hesitated for a second and she slipped from behind of her
mother. She had on a summer dress and her hair was put in a pony tail. She
had freckles covering her face and she wore glasses. Rhianna could see just
how shy and unconfident that the young woman was. She felt so sorry for her
as she was a pretty girl when you took her all in.
"Now tell me your name sweetie." Kerri asked again.
"It's Natalie." She said softly.
"Well Natalie, do you like to read my books?" Kerri asked her.
"Oh yes, I love them. I love how Sid does so many things and she is
so strong." Natalie told Kerri as she bit her lower lip.
"Natalie, I was wondering if you can do me a favor?" Kerri asked
her.
"I'll try." Natalie said with a lot of trepidation in her voice.
"Now would Sid say that she would try or do you think that she would
ask what was needed and then do it?" Kerri asked her.
"She would just do it, there's nothing that she can't do." Natalie
said with confidence this time.
"Okay let me ask you again, can you do me a favor?" Kerri asked her.
"What do you need?" Natalie asked after only hesitating a second.
"My assistant here needs to go and get me something from my hotel
room but I need her here to help me too. You see she can't be in two places
at once so I was wondering if you could help me here while she goes across
town and get what I need. Can you do that for me?" Kerri asked.
The girl looked up at her mother for approval and her mother told
her, "Don't look at me honey, she asked you."
"Yes, I'd love to." Natalie said.
Rhianna could see that she was still scared but she really wanted
to do it. Rhianna felt her pride swell for Kerri for helping the girl out
and she was lost in her thoughts when she heard Kerri say, "Rhianna, you
can go get that thing I need now, Natalie is going to help me for a while."
Oh yes, that thing, I'll go right now and get it." Rhianna said as
she smiled at the girl's mother.
She then slipped from behind of Kerri and she walked around the
booth and she started to walk toward the exit and once she had gone what
she thought was a safe distance, she curved around so that she could watch
from the side but out of sight of the girl. She watched as Kerri showed the
girl where all of the new books were and then she could see her talking to
the girl as she went back to signing her books for other fans. Rhianna
could see that the girl's mother was standing to the side and she got her
attention. She saw the mother tell the girl something but from what Rhianna
could see, the girl didn't pay any attention to what her mother was
saying. All of Natalie's attention was on Kerri who was now an even bigger
hero to her than she was before.
"I think you can watch from here and she won't see you." Rhianna
told the mother.
"Thanks, my name is Helena." She told Rhianna.
"I'm Rhianna and I'm on my way to get that thing from the hotel
room." Rhianna said and then she laughed and Helena laughed with her.
"Please tell Ms Sands, I really appreciate what she has done for my
daughter. You don't know what this means to me and to Natalie."
"She seems like a very sweet girl but she very shy." Rhianna said
and then she feared that she had said the wrong thing.
"She is but there is a reason behind that." Helena said.
"What's wrong with her?" Rhianna said and she saw a pained look on
Helena's face and she feared that she had said the wrong thing. "I don't
mean to pry or anything."
"No it's fine. When she was four, our house caught on fire. Her
father made me get out of the house as he went to get Natalie. The fire had
started in the den which was right under her room. He got to her but not
before the flames had gotten to her bed. Her back got badly burned before
he could get to her and he tossed her down to me from the window. He then
was trapped in the house and died and I almost lost her but she lived but
she was badly scared both mentally and physically. She's had numerous skin
graphs and she looks so much better but the scars will always be there.
And you know how kids can be, they teased her endlessly so I took her out
of the public schools and I teach her at home. I just wish I knew how to
get her to be more confident and sure of herself. Get her to look past the
scars on her back. I just don't know how to do that." Helena said and
Rhianna saw tears start falling from Helena's eyes as they were falling
from her own eyes.
"I'm so sorry." Rhianna said as she hugged Helena to her and they
both cried a little. When they parted, Helena opened her purse and she
pulled out a couple of tissues. "I think we both need these." She said as
she handed one to Rhianna. She wiped her eyes and then she blew her
nose. The Rhianna happened to look back at where Kerri and Natalie were
at. She saw Natalie pulling books from the boxes and stacking them neatly
and she also saw that she was talking away to Kerri.
"Look over at your shy daughter now." Rhianna told Helena and she
got a hurtful look from her but then she looked at where Rhianna was
pointing.
"Oh my god..." Helena said as she looked at her daughter who had a
big smile on her face and was talking not only to Kerri now but to Kerri's
fans.
"I think all she needed was for someone important and who wasn't her
mother to have confidence in her." Rhianna said as she hugged Helena again
as Helena was crying too hard to speak.
"I don't know about you but I would love to have a cup of coffee
right now." Rhianna said as she guided Helena over to one of the coffee
outlets set up around the show floor.
Rhianna and Helena spend most of the afternoon talking. They would
go back and check on Kerri and Natalie every once in a while. Helena didn't
want Kerri to be stuck with her daughter too long so Rhianna got one of the
publishing company's workers to go check with Kerri ever so often and they
always came back with the same answer. She and Natalie were doing just
fine. It was going on about seven when Helena decided that Natalie had
taken up enough of Kerri's time and she collected her daughter. Kerri gave
Natalie a big hug and she got her address so that she could write to her
and she made Natalie promise to write to her back. This Natalie gladly
did. Rhianna watched as Natalie and Helena left the show floor and the girl
was talking away to her mother, now walking beside of her and not hiding
behind her anymore.
"You don't know what that poor girl has had to go through." Rhianna
said as she came to Kerri's side.
"Yea, I do, she told me all about her burns and things. But I told
her that when she felt sad or down, to think about what Sid would do and
then do exactly that. Maybe Sid will be able to help her." Kerri said
wishfully.
"Not as much as you have. I think that you have given her someone no
one else could even her given her." Rhianna told her.
"What's that?" Kerri asked.
"You made her believe in herself and now she has someone who she
knows believes in her." Rhianna said as she bent down and gave Kerri a
quick kiss on the cheek.
That night when they got to the social, they made one pass through
the room and the only person that they talked to for any length of time was
Leeann. They then made a fast escape. Rhianna had made them an appointment
with the hotel masseur, Kerri wasn't so keen on the idea but once the lady
masseur had gotten done with her, Kerri was begging Rhianna to let her take
the lady home with them. The lady laughed and said she gets that response
all the time. Then Rhianna had to almost drag Kerri off the table so that
she could get her massage. When the lady was done with her, Rhianna could
see why Kerri wanted to take her home with her. She had never felt so loose
and relaxed in her life. She knew once they got back home they were going
to have to look around and find a good masseur. That night they both were
so relaxed that they fell right to sleep and this time Rhianna wasn't
awaken once by Kerri having bad dreams.
The next day was the shortest of the three day. This day would only
last until five but then they had to get ready for the party that started
at eight and lasted until the wee hours of the morning. They got to the
show at about eight-thirty and Rhianna found that they only had a few books
left. When she had seen how many books that Leeann had brought to the show,
she thought they would be lucky to sell half of them but now they were
almost out and they had one more day to go. She was talking to Kerri about
it when Leeann came through the doors and she had two big men who were
pushing a cart that were stacked full of books.
"I know you would sell a bunch of books but you even outdid what I
thought you would. I had to have a bunch shipped in overnight." Leeann said
as she came to Kerri and gave her a kiss then she gave one to Rhianna.
"I was just asking Kerri what we were going to do." Rhianna told
Leeann.
"Well, Kerri here is the hit of the show; I couldn't have her
running out of books to sign." Leeann said.
"And books for you to sell." Kerri said with a smile.
"That too," Leeann said with a laugh then she added. "She has saved
my job many times over you know. Just when I had a string of duds, Kerri
would send in another book and my stock in the company would go back
up. I've got to take care of her as she takes care of me."
"I think you take care of me more than I you." Kerri said and
Rhianna could see that there was a hidden meaning to what Kerri was telling
Leeann. Again she wanted to press Kerri more about what she had said but
about then the doors opened and the day had begun.
This day was just a busy as the other two, maybe even more so. As
the day went along, Rhianna wondered if Natalie would return and she fully
expected her to do so but as it got closer to the time for them to close
the door, Natalie had not appeared. Rhianna was slightly disappointed not
to see her before they closed but she was at least glad that Natalie had
got to spend the previous day with Kerri. Rhianna was one who knew what it
was like to finally meet the person that she looked up to most. Rhianna
kept her eyes on the door as they got ready to close them and then just as
they closed she thought she saw Natalie's mother at the door. Rhianna
rushed toward the door without telling Kerri what was going on but she
didn't have time, she wanted to get to Natalie and her mother before they
got away. When she got to the doorman, she asked him to let her friends in
but he refused which pissed her off greatly and she let him know that in no
uncertain terms. She then jerked the door open and she saw Helena and
Natalie just rounding the corner of the hallway as she went through the
doors. She called out to them as they disappeared from view and she was
afraid that she would lose them in the crowds that were leaving the
building. She started to run toward them when she saw Natalie peaking
around the corner of the hallway and Rhianna called out to her to stop.
"We were hoping that you both would stop by today." Rhianna told
them both and that brought a huge grin to Natalie's face.
"Come on with me and I'll get you in to see Kerri." Rhianna told
them.
"We don't want to be a bother, it's just that Natalie had made some
brownies for you both and she wanted to give them to you but I had to run
some errands today and I couldn't get Natalie here until now. So if you
will give this to Kerri, we'd both appreciate it and we can get out of your
way." Helena said and that drew a mean stare from Natalie as she wanted to
give the brownies to Kerri herself.
"It's no problem, besides if I don't get you in to see Kerri, I know
Kerri will be mad at me and Natalie here will definitely be mad at me."
Rhianna told Helena and she saw that Natalie was blushing slightly as she
had pegged her correctly. Natalie would have been mad at both her and her
mother if she didn't make it to see Kerri. "Come on and I will take you in
the back way. I think that I have pissed off the doorman and I know he
wouldn't even let in the front doors at this point." Rhianna said with a
laugh.
"You sure it's no problem?" Helena asked.
"Mom! She said it wasn't a problem." Natalie said getting irritated
at her mother.
"Watch it young lady or we'll leave right now." Helena told her
daughter in a sharp motherly tone that told her daughter that she was about
to tread on ground that she didn't want to tread on.
"Don't worry baby, I'll get us in and I'll protect you from your bad
old mama." Rhianna said with a smile as she put her arm around Natalie's
shoulders and she started to lead her around to the back doors of the
show. She then turned her head around to make sure that Helena was taking
what she said in the right way and she saw that Helena was smiling at her
so she knew it was cool.
She talked to Natalie and Helena as she guided them around to the
back door and she thought that she was going to have a problem with this
doorman but then she put Leeann's name out and that seemed to get his
attention. He knew that he didn't want to mess with Leeann so he let them
all through.
"Look who I found." Rhianna said to Kerri as she brought Natalie to
the side of Kerri's booth just as Kerri was signing her last autograph of
the show.
Kerri had a frown on her face as she turned around as if she didn't
want any more put upon her but then her face broke into a smile when she
saw Natalie.
"Well, there's my helper. I missed you today. I was stuck with
Rhianna here and she isn't nearly the helper that you are. She complained
all day." Kerri told Natalie and that made Natalie blush and smile at the
same time. "Come here and give me a big hug, sugar."
Natalie rushed to Kerri and gave her a hug but not before handing
the pan of brownies to her mother.
"I missed coming here today too and I was afraid that we would miss
you." Natalie said.
"Actually you timed it just right, Rhianna and I were just talking
about going out for some pizza and we'd love for you to join us." Keri said
and Rhianna noticed that Kerri's eyes were talking to her.
"Oh yes, I have been dying for some Chicago styled pizza since we
have been her but Kerri has kept me so busy that I haven't had a chance to
get any." Rhianna said and she could see that Helena wanted to say
something but then her daughter turned to give her what Rhianna knew had to
be her most pitiful look and Helena gave in.
"Sure, if you don't mind having us come along." Helena said and that
earned her a hug from her daughter.
"Well, we were hoping that you could direct us to the best place to
go for pizza." Kerri told them.
"Let's take them to Greta's, they have the best pizza around."
Natalie said.
"There're awfully expensive honey we only go there on special
occasions." Helena told her.
"It's cool, I have a company credit card, and the meal will be on
us. We can write it off as a business expense." Kerri told them and Rhianna
smiled at Kerri's little white lie.
"Great!" Natalie said as she took Kerri by the hand and started to
lead her back out the way that Rhianna had brought them in.
"I really didn't mean for you all to do this. I wasn't sure about
bringing Natalie back here to see Ms Sands but she wanted to so bad and I
couldn't say no to her. All she talked about last night was Kerri this and
Kerri that. I had to make her go to bed and sleep then this morning she
decided that she had to make Kerri some of her brownies. I know you both
are going out of your way for us and I do appreciate it." Helena told
Rhianna as they trailed behind Kerri and Natalie.
"Don't worry about it; I think Natalie has been good for
Kerri. Something you can write and write but you never see how your writing
has affected people, Kerri has gotten to see that with Natalie. So you see
they have been good for each other." Rhianna said and she meant it as she
could see Kerri's face light up when she saw Natalie.
They all piled into a cab and headed off for pizza. Natalie made
sure that she sat beside of Kerri in the cab as well as when they sat at
the restaurant. She also hung on every word that Kerri said no matter what
the subject was. It actually turned out to be a great evening and the after
show party was the only thing that kept it from being perfect. They got
back at about nine and they had to rush to get ready but still they were an
hour and half late to the party which Rhianna could see didn't please
Leeann but at least they had showed up. Rhianna had to also drag Kerri to
the party as it was. But they did make it just in time for the awards and
after Kerri won the prize for most books sold at the show and she had to go
up on the little stage that was set up, Rhianna knew that Kerri would be
mad at her for making her come to the party in the first place. When she
got back she was fussing at Rhianna but then Leeann announced that Kerri
also won the prize for most autographs given so she had to get right back
up. Kerri started to fuss at her more and Rhianna started to laugh but
then she got the stare from her and she shut up quickly. Kerri wanted to
leave after that award and Rhianna had to practically beg Kerri to
stay. Luckily she got no more awards so Rhianna felt a little safer. Once
the awards part of the party was over, they made their way to Leeann and
said their goodbyes and they left quickly.
"Leeann said that we got the room for the rest of the week so what
do you want to do?" Rhianna asked Kerri.
"You know what I want most to do?" Kerri said.
"No what?' Rhianna asked as she came to her.
"I want to go home." Kerri told her.
"That's what I thought you would say. The plane will be ready at
eight in the morning but we will have to be at the airport but six to make
sure that we get off in time." Rhianna told her.
"You serious?" Kerri asked as Rhianna saw her eyes light up.
"Yea, I talked to Leeann yesterday and had her arrange it. I was
hoping for a later time but this was what was available. The pilot and
plane was booked for the rest of the day. But this way, we get a straight
flight down." Rhianna told her.
"I don't care as long as we can leave and go home." Kerri said and
then she pulled Rhianna to her and she said softly, "I do appreciate you
coming with me and staying by me. I couldn't have done this without you. I
promise when we get back I will make it up to you."
"Well I'm the one that got you into this, it's the least that I can
do to see you through it." Rhianna said as she gave Kerri a little kiss.
"I needed to come to one of these shows, I owed Leeann that much so
it was good that you got me to come." Kerri told her as she put her head on
Rhianna's shoulder.
"She wants you to come to next year's show in Denver too." Rhianna
told her.
"You didn't did you?" Kerri asked and she pulled back and looked
into Rhianna's eyes.
"I kind of did." Rhianna said sheepishly.
"Oh you are in so much trouble!" Kerri said as her hand went to
Rhianna's bottom and she gave it a hard slap.
"Ouch, that hurt!" Rhianna said.
"Good you deserved it and lots more." Kerri said and then she
smiled.
"I know but I saw how well you did this week and Leeann asked me to
convince you to come back next year and I said I would." Rhianna told her
and then she gave her a kiss to keep her from saying more but it didn't
stop Kerri from giving her another slap but a lighter one this time.
"You love popping my ass don't you?' Rhianna asked.
""Yep," Kerri said smiling and she gave her another kiss. "Now let's
get packed and on to the airport. Maybe we can convince the pilot to take
off earlier."
Rhianna wanted to tell Kerri that she was sure that the pilot would
have to file a flight plan and that it couldn't be changed, especially
since they were taking off from Chicago with all its air traffic. But she
didn't, she just said okay and started to help Kerri pack their things.
They got to the small private terminal in which they had arrived
five days earlier at about midnight and the pilot was nowhere to be
seen. Rhianna would have told Kerri that she had told her this would happen
but since she had kept her mouth shut before, she couldn't every well say
anything now. By this time Rhianna was dead on her feet however Kerri
seemed to have just gotten her second wind. Rhianna wondered where Kerri
was getting her energy from but then Kerri started talking about getting
home and then she knew why Kerri was so full of energy. She wanted out of
the big city and back to her secluded little cabin. Kerri walked around the
quite terminal and she talked Rhianna's ear off. This was the only thing
that was keeping Rhianna awake. Then around three in the morning Melissa,
the pilot who had brought them here showed up. Kerri saw her first and she
made a bee line toward her.
"I didn't expect to see you two here already. We're not scheduled to
lift off until eight." Melissa told Kerri.
"We were kind of hoping that you could take off a little
earlier. Rhianna needs to be back early so that she can get to work
today. She took a few days off to help me out but they want her back in the
office early this morning." Kerri told Melissa.
"It will take me an hour to check the plane over and get it refueled
so four is the earliest that I can see us taking off. The traffic is
usually light until about seven in the morning so they may let me change my
flight plan. Let me check and see what I can do." Melissa told them as she
headed out to the plane and she had her cell phone going.
"Liar, liar pants on fire!" Rhianna hissed at Kerri as soon as
Melissa was out of ear shot.
"She knows I'm an author so I couldn't tell me that I need to get
back because of my job." Kerri told her.
"Well I don't have a job to get back to either." Rhianna told her,
still irritated at Kerri for bringing her into this.
"Sure you do. Your working for me this summer so that makes me your
boss and I have decided that you need to be in the office first thing this
morning." Kerri said with a self satisfied smile.
Rhianna start to spit back a comeback at her but then she realized
that Kerri was right, she did work for her even thought she hadn't gotten
paid but she had to admit that the benefits were pretty good. Her mind then
wandered off to those benefits and she started to smile. Then she saw Kerri
looking at her with a quizzical look on her face, so she got her mind back
to coming up with a comeback to Kerri's comment. It was too late to come
back with something quick, her quick wit had already failed her this
time. She thought for a moment more then she said, "Well, I may just call
in sick today, I'm suddenly feeling a little under the weather."
"Well since I'm such a great boss, I'll just pick you up and we can
stop by my doctor's office and she can look you over and then, I'll just
take you on into work." Kerri said as she smiled.
"I'd just demand a second opinion, and go some other doctor."
Rhianna countered.
"Then I'd just go in with you and make sure that the second doctor
would agree with my doctor and you'd still end up at work." Kerri told her.
"Oh I'm beginning to feel faint, maybe you need to take me to a
doctor here." Rhianna said trying a different tactic as she put the back
of her right hand to her forehead and let her eyes start to flutter.
"Oh your just faking now." Kerri said with a laugh and then she
started to say something else but Rhianna saw Melissa coming back toward
the little terminal.
"Shhh... Our cute pilot is coming back in." Rhianna said as she put
her hand on Kerri's arm.
"Good news ladies, I got permission to take off earlier, it seems
that it's going to be a light day in the air. I just go to find a fuel
truck to fill me up and then we can be on our way. Just have a seat and
I'll come back and get you when we're about ready to take off."
"Thank you so much, Rhianna will be able to get to work, you
probably saved her job." Kerri said adding it on thick and heavy.
"That's great, I'm glad that I could be of some help." Melissa said
as she turned to walk back out toward her plane but then she stopped and
turned back around and she had a big smile on her face. "By the way, I know
that Rhianna works for you Ms Sands." She said and she turned to take
another step before she stopped and turned back around, "Oh and Leeann told
me that you would probably be here early and I was to try and get you back
to Tennessee as soon as I could." She then turned back around and went on
out the door to her plane.
"Busted!" Rhianna screamed before she burst out laughing at Kerri's
expense. Kerri was standing there in shock and when Rhianna looked over at
Melissa, she saw Melissa smiling at her and she gave Rhianna a thumbs up.
"Oh shut up!" Kerri told Rhianna and then she started to laugh. When
they got their laughing under control, Kerri said a little more seriously,
"I should have known Leeann would be one step ahead of me, she always is."
They lifted off the ground a couple of minutes after four in the
morning. On the trip back down to Tennessee, Rhianna noticed that Kerri was
much calmer and her grip on her hand wasn't nearly so tight. That is until
they hit a little turbulence and then Rhianna thought Kerri was going to
crush the bones in her hand. Luckily they didn't hit much of that so when
they landed, her hand was a little sore but the bones were intact. Kerri
thanked Melissa profusely and she apologized for lying to her about getting
Rhianna home for her job. Melissa said that is was cool as she had those
days when she couldn't wait to get home.
Once they got their stuff loaded in her Escape, Kerri jumped into
the driver's seat and she barely allowed Rhianna time to get in before she
took off. When they got to the booth to pay for their parking, the lady
took her time getting Kerri's money and then returning the change. Kerri
started to fuss under her breath and Rhianna wanted to tell her to calm
down, they were back in Tennessee now but she didn't. Kerri finally got her
change back from the lady and she flung it in Rhianna's direction and she
took off. Rhianna was trying to help Kerri merge into the early morning
traffic when Kerri saw an opening that really wasn't there and she squeezed
into traffic. This earned her a blast of the horn from the car that she had
just cut off. Kerri threw up her middle finger at the car and she went
on. Rhianna next thought was to offer to drive and that way she would be
sure that they gone home safely but she knew that Kerri wasn't going to
stop and take the time to change drivers so she started to talk about all
the things that they would do for the last month that she would be with
Kerri. She kept on talking and she saw Kerri's grip on the wheel loosened
somewhat and she eased off the petal a hair. This was better than nothing
Rhianna thought as they headed out of Knoxville and got on the interstate
going back toward home. What was normally a little better than a two hour
drive was driven by Kerri in less than an hour and half. Rhianna was so
thankful to be back at the cabin safely that she wanted to get out of the
car and kiss the ground.
Rhianna was just starting to get their bags from the back seat when
Kerri called to her from the other side of the car, "Just leave them be,
we'll get them later."
"But it'll just take me a second to get them." Rhianna told her.
"I said that we'll get them later, now come on." Kerri told her and
Rhianna saw the impatience on her face and in her voice.
Rhianna started to go ahead and pull the bag that she had in her
hand on out then she thought better of it and called back to Kerri,
"Coming."
"I'll go freshen up and then you can, then we'll get started." Kerri
said as she went into the bathroom and she shut the door.
"Get started on what?" Rhianna said to the closed door, getting the
response that she expected which was silence as Kerri never heard a word
she said.
"Your turn, but hurry okay." Kerri told her as she rushed out of the
bathroom door less the jeans that she was wearing on her way in.
"I will." Rhianna said as she went into the bathroom. She first
looked into the mirror and saw that her hair was a mess and there were dark
circles under her eyes. "Well I've only been up for twenty four hours and
that included doing a book show, attending a party and then flying from
Chicago to here, so I guess I don't look all that bad." Rhianna said to
herself not believing a word she was telling herself. She ran a brush
through her hair and then she pushed her jeans down and sat on the
toilet. Once done there, she brushed her teeth and put a little deodorant
on before going to the bathroom door and opening it. She heard Kerri but
didn't see her at first, then she walked on into the cabin and she saw
Kerri and her eyes lit up. Kerri was stark naked and she was pulling out
the strap-on and lubricant. Rhianna finally realized why Kerri was in such
a hurry. It had been almost a week since they had made love and Kerri was
horny as hell. They had never gone that long without making love since
their first time.
