Subject: Alice & Kay Installment 1

Chapter 1


"Are you sure this is what you want to do?" Alice's mom asked while she
parked her Toyota RAV 4 in front of the cabin where Alice would spend the
next three months.

"Yes mother, I'll rather be here than home, especially right now that you
and dad are not in the best terms, this time apart will do me good and
hopefully by the time I return you guys have figured out a plan or driven
each other insane." Alice couldn't stand the fighting anymore; the house
where she had so many good memories of her childhood was now a living
battle zone.

"Ok baby, I promise you that your dad and I will talk about our differences
and find a solution to our situation we are both aware that is affecting
you and your brother, now come here and give me a big bear hug"

"I love you mama" Alice said while her mom hugged her, they both took the
only one suitcase that Alice had insisted in bringing. It wasn't heavy most
of its contents were shorts and tank tops, some sun-block, and her cell
phone charger.

Dina got inside the car and started backing up; Alice stood there by the
cabin's entrance and waved to her mom once she was already heading down
Main Street to later on find the highway that would take her back into the
city.

Alice was happy to be finally alone, not that she didn't love her family,
but some times she just wanted to be by herself and think, about her
future, her confusing thoughts that had been haunting her for the past year
or so, still she couldn't believe her dad had agreed on letting her go 400
miles away from home practically alone with a bunch of girls that she had
never met before and one camp keeper, her name was Mrs. Fester. After six
long hours sitting on the passenger seat of her mom's SUV all that Alice
needed was a comfy sofa and a TV so she could restore herself, she opened
the door and realized that the cabin was small but cozy, she stepped in and
saw to the right the little kitchen with its metallic faucets and sink, an
old stove about five feet of tile counter and a small dining table with
four chairs, to the left she could see the door to the bedroom, she walked
towards it and wasn't surprised to see two twin beds, she knew she was
going to have a roommate, in each side of the room she saw dressers and the
absence of course of a closet. There was a TU with an antenna and a door
which she didn't feel like opening at the very moment, "That must be the
bathroom" she said to herself while dropping the suitcase and sitting in
the bed. After a couple of minutes, she got her iPod out of the front
pocket of her jeans and turned it on; her favorite band was playing her
favorite song, "basket case" by Green Day.

Kay was in the bathroom combing her hair after taking a cold shower, her
dad had dropped her off almost two hours ago and she felt uncomfortable
with all the dust her clothes had collected from the motorcycle ride. She
heard the door open and close quietly and then some footsteps, a thud that
felt like a heavy bag hitting the floor, and then everything was quiet
again, she knew she would have to share the little cabin with another girl
but down deep inside she would have loved to have it all to herself, she
wasn't a social outcast but most people didn't seem to be very fond of her.

Kay stepped out of the bathroom wearing the towel around her muscular body,
and some slippers she bought specially for the trip, as soon as she closed
the bathroom door she saw her roommate on the bed with earphones on and
humming a song that she couldn't recognize, Kay stood there like a silly
goose looking at this pretty girl that was about to become her buddy for
three long months. She couldn't stop staring at the girl laying in the bed
next to her, her face was almost perfect, with freckles and all, she had
long dirty blonde hair, a fine long nose, she couldn't see her eyes but she
could bet her life that they were either green or blue, she was muscular
too, maybe she practiced some sport just like her. Kay blushed when she
realized that the girl's eyes were open now and she was looking directly
into her eyes with a mixture of fear and surprise.

"The name is Kay, I'm your roommate." She said waving at Alice. "Sorry if I
scared you, I thought I would be alone until tomorrow."

"I confess I did get a little surprised, I didn't hear anything from the
bathroom and since I didn't see any luggage I too thought I would be alone
for a couple more hours" Alice said smiling at Kay. "My name is Alice
Moorish, nice meeting you Kay"

Kay walked to the dresser, opened the middle drawer and took a black tank
top and a pair of shorts out, `Do you mind?" Kay asked Alice unfastening
the towel around her body, "I don't" Alice replied blushing slightly, Kay
wasn't wearing a bra, Alice looked away, she felt funny.

There was a knock on the door and Alice was relieved to hear an old lady's
voice. "Alice Moorish and Kay Lewis? Open the door is Mrs. Fester I want to
welcome you all to the camp and introduce myself."

Alice was pleased to see that Kay had her clothes on and was walking
towards the door to let the keeper in. The old oak door creaked when Kay
opened it and she saw the old lady's face, it wasn't friendly or scary, it
was more like expressionless. By the time Alice stepped into the living
room Mrs. Fester had made herself comfortable in one of the chairs
belonging to the table. She had a basket with a cell phone, some snacks,
and a flashlight. She motioned for Kay and Alice to sit down on the nearby
chairs.

"Well young ladies I'm very pleased to see you here, like you both know the
camp will not begin until the day after tomorrow, but just to save myself
some time I'm going to tell you what I expect from each of you girls. This
year there are going to be 13 girls under my care, 7 of them canceled at
the last minute, as you know there is a lake on the property just a couple
hundred feet away from the main lawn, the access to this lake is limited
and whoever disobeys will be sent home, there is a flashlight keep it handy
sometimes our power goes down for a couple of hours, during which you
should remain together and if there is any emergencies use this cell phone
to communicate with me or my daughter, we will be the ones helping you if
anything goes wrong, I will see you tonight when I bring your dinner and
there will be a bonfire to welcome you all once all the girls are in the
camp, see you in a couple of hours and start knowing each other, that would
help a lot." After what seemed like an hour of nonstop chatter Mrs. Fester
finally stood up and left the cabin, the girls were speechless. "So much
for summer camp huh?" Kay asked Alice.

"Yep, that lady needs some serious help, I can't believe that if we get
caught sneaking around the lake at the wrong hour we'll be sent home, that
sucks."

"Well like you said -- if we get caught..."

"Don't tell me that you are actually going to disobey the laws of
Mrs. Fester" Alice said to Kay mocking Mrs. Fester. Both girls smiled and
they already knew what the other one was thinking.

"Maybe not tonight" Kay said winking at Alice. "Are you hungry?" Kay asked
changing the subject, she usually didn't trust strangers and much less with
things that could get her into trouble but something about Alice made all
the barriers that she had carefully build around her tumble down like
toothpicks leaving her exposed and vulnerable.

"A little I must confess, I hate long trips."

"I'll make some scrambled eggs and we could drink some coke that I saw in
the fridge, you want to take a shower while I cook?"

"Sounds good. Thanks a lot" Alice left to the bathroom humming that weird
song again.

While Alice was gone Kay couldn't stop thinking about her, the way she
walked towards the center of the cabin when Mrs. Fester had come to bring
the goodies, the way her eyes smiled at her, her voice, her smell, but what
was she thinking about when she was almost certain that as soon as Alice
knew that she was a lesbian she would look at her like an alien or even
worse a freak and ask to be sent home or moved to another cabin.

By the time Kay finished serving the eggs on two plastic plates provided by
the keeper, Alice was already walking towards the table, her hair was towel
dried and she was wearing a similar tank top and jeans. She sat down and
started eating, Kay wasn't hungry, she just wanted to stare at Alice and
walk under the stars holding her hand.

But what was she thinking about, what kind of thoughts were these she only
knew Alice for like 2 hours and she was already thinking all this nonsense.

"What are you thinking about Kay" Alice asked after swallowing a spoonful
of scrambled eggs.

"Nothing much, just thinking what we are going to do here for three whole
months to keep each other entertained" Kay had some ideas of course but
under no circumstance she was going to even think about them.

"How old are you Kay?"

"I'm 18, you?"

"Same, I just graduated from High School. Though I could take a little
break before going to college."

"Oh that's cool I just graduated too, I'm working on this essay for a 75
percent scholarship, I really hope I can meet the deadline with a hit and
hopefully get into college to become a lawyer. " Kay started picking up the
plastic plates and cups and throwing them in the trashcan in the corner of
the kitchen. "I was surprised when I saw this camp online, I though that at
our age we were banned from these kinds of gatherings, hopefully this
tranquility will help me finish my essay and be the best at it.

"Wow that's really interesting, prosecuting criminals and the whole nine
yards huh?" Alice looked really interested in the conversation and that
made Kay happier by the minute, she had never met a girl so special in her
life, not even her best friend Jodie was interested in her career or her
dreams, she only wanted Kay to help her out when she got into trouble,
which was very often.

"How about you? What do you want to study?"

"I want to become a vet? I would love to work in an Aquarium, whales,
dolphins, sharks, that's my passion." Alice said and her face lit up with
excitement and also the slightest pain that Kay wasn't sure if she saw it
or not in those blue eyes, just like she had imagined earlier while she was
starting at Alice while she lay in bed. "Wow we've been talking for hours
look at that the sun is already disappearing in the horizon."

Kay looked through the little window that was located right on top of the
table, she saw the huge lake, the orangey sky and she couldn't fight her
emotions anymore, she took Alice's hand and pulled her from the chair
towards the door.

"What are you doing Kay? It's going to be dark soon; if Mrs. Fester sees us
we'll be on our way home." Alice reminded Kay in a whisper, since they were
already walking behind the cabins through a trail that Alice didn't even
realized existed until she felt that she was stepping on warm grass from
the limited heat the sun was still emanating.

"Don't worry Al; I know my way around here, now hush . . . this is her
cabin." Kay pointed out a slightly bigger cabin that stood out from the
rest because it had been painted a dark shade of brown while the others
where off white. Once they were in the bushes Kay realized that she was
still holding Alice's hand and let her go, but their fingers had been
entwined which meant that Alice didn't mind, but then again what was she
thinking it was perfectly normal for girls to hold hands without any other
meaning than friendship, but what Kay didn't know was that once she let
loose Alice had felt scared and unprotected.

"How do you know where we are going Kay?"

"Did I mention that this is like the eighth time I've been here for summer
camp?"

"No you didn't. Do you live near by? "

"Not really, but my dad knows Mrs. Fester and he thinks I'm safe here so he
always lets me stay for a couple of months."

Alice was about to ask another question when she saw the bushes come to an
end and the water from the lake almost touching her toes in her flip
flops. The view was breathtaking; there was no wind so the water of the
lake was like a mirror reflecting the reddish clouds that were still
lingering around in the sky.

"Wow!" Alice said taking a deep breath. "If this doesn't inspire you to
write the best essay of the history of English literature I don't know what
will?"

You would, Kay thought to herself, and took a mental note of the way the
faint lights made Alice's eyes look almost hazel. They stood there side by
side contemplating such a perfect picture.

"We should get going before the snakes and the spiders decide to come for a
drink at the shoreline of the lake." Kay could see how Alice's eyes widened
with panic and her hand went automatically and grasped Kay's.

"Oh my goodness, are you serious? I don't like those creatures; please take
me to the cabin Kay." Alice said almost crying.

"I'm just kidding silly, there are no such things around this lake I was
just playing around?"

Alice looked real mad, "How could you do a thing like that, you almost had
me crying." Alice was furious but she didn't let go of Kay's hand, she
didn't say a word on the way back to the cabin and once inside she let go
of the comforting warmth of Kay's skin and went to the kitchen to get some
water.

"Good night Kay" She said without looking at her, turned off her nightstand
light and went to sleep.

"Good night beautiful" Kay said long after Alice had turned her light off
and thought she was sleeping.

The first couple of weeks went by pretty fast, the rest of the girls
arrived at the camp and there was a little bonfire that lasted about 2
hours, long enough for everybody to introduce themselves and get to know
the camp's rules as well as the keeper and her daughter.

Kay got quite a surprise when she saw her ex-girlfriend sitting around the
flare chit chatting with some other peers. "What a coincidence!" se
thought.

Kay and Alice pretty much already knew everything about each other and were
together most of the time, walking to the lake, sometimes running through
the trails to become more and more familiar with them and the usual camp
activities.

At the cabin Kay would spend hours writing and rewriting essays, she was a
bit of a perfectionist. Alice would lie next to her in the bed and read one
of the many books she had borrowed from Melissa, Mrs. Fester's daughter.

Sunday was the favorite day of the week for most of the girls since a local
company would bring two kayaks and there would be competences in the lake
to see which girl was the fastest and then they would have a huge picnic
under the oldest tree in the whole 10 acre property.

Alice had to admit that she was having a blast.

The 4th of July was finally here, all the girls were going crazy with
excitement, everyone had some fireworks to set free at midnight and the
whole camp was alive with the cheerfulness in the air.

Like usual the girls took showers and got dressed into their many different
color tank tops and shorts, and got together with the group that was
gathering around some tables in the main yard. All the girls were wearing
red shirts, or pants, some of them shorts like Alice and Kay.

"Did you know that your friend over there is a little weird?" A girl named
Sandra whispered into Alice's ear.

"What do you mean weird? In what way?" Alice was a little curious to know
more about Kay but at the same time upset because she didn't like when
people talked about other people behind their backs.

"She is mmhh . . . well she is . . . "The girl's eyed widened when she saw
Kay coming back from one of the less crowded tables.

Alice saw the pain in Kay's eyes and stood up but it was too late, Kay was
already running through one of the trails that ended at the opposite's side
of the lake. She started walking after her but Mrs. Fester stopped her.

"She needs to be alone right now; when she's ready to talk she'll come to
you." After that the old lady turned around and kept doing her chores like
if nothing had happened. Alice couldn't wait for Kay to come back, what did
everybody knew about her roommate that she didn't, she thought they were
friends, she confided in Kay and she thought Kay trusted her as
well. Except for one thing she didn't say, how could she? It was all
confusion; she couldn't think straight for a minute, she didn't even know
how to describe her feelings anymore. She wanted to run after Kay, her
friend and tell her that she didn't care what the big secret was that she
would care about her just the same, but then again she didn't know what the
secret was and she wanted to hear it from Kay's mouth not Sandra's.

Kay was crying, she couldn't believe Sandra had done that, how dare she?
"Alice thinks the worst of me" she kept repeating in her head, "She is
never going to talk tome again, why didn't I tell her myself?" She was
pacing back and forth kicking the little rocks that were in her path, and
then she saw her, Alice was there standing a couple feet away staring at
her.

Kay wiped her tears and looked away, into the lake, she could see the other
girls at the other side, she could almost hear them laughing, she had never
cared what anybody thought about her including her mom, who had abandoned
her and her dad a very long time ago and only came to see her when she
needed money. But Alice was different, Alice hadn't judged her, she was
there for her, she listened.

Alice came closer to Kay and touched her shoulder.

"Kay are you OK?" she asked a little out of breath from the walk.

"What did she tell you about me?" Kay asked without looking at her, she sat
down on the ground feeling a little weak. Alice sat next to her and
entwined her fingers with Kay's; a familiar gesture for both girls, but
this time it felt different; it felt warmer, inviting to engage in a
dangerous game of truth or dare.

"I'm sorry you had to find out that way" Kay said wiping her tears with the
back of her free hand. She looked at Alice without blinking, she was so
beautiful, and she didn't deserve to be involved in this mess.

"Find out about what K?" Alice was beginning to worry, what was the big
deal?

"I'm a lesbian Alice, and I'm in love with you."

Alice stood up confused and somehow relieved that "that was the big deal".

"Are you serious? What do you mean you are in love with me? How is that
possible?"

"I know you thought we were friends but I just couldn't help myself" Kay
stood up and got closer to Alice, "You are so sweet, so freaking beautiful,
I just fell hard and fast and I swear the only reason why I didn't tell you
was because I didn't want to lose you as a friend. But it's too late for
that now right? I already lost you." Kay started walking towards the trail
that would take them back to the cabin.

"Let's go Alice; they are going to start without us. It's getting dark
already."

Alice followed without a word, keeping her distance from Kay, she couldn't
believe what had happened a couple minutes before, could all those mixed
feelings that she was experiencing be related to Kay, or was it just her
imagination. For god's sake she didn't even know the full meaning of the
lesbian word. Could she be feeling the same towards Kay? This incident was
the perfect explanation for all the hearts that she had drawn in her
journal. But how could she be sure, was there some kind of test that she
could take? What would her mom and dad think about this, her friends?

A huge red explosion startled the girls bringing Alice back to earth, it
was the first fire work, but instead of making her happy it somehow made
her sad and melancholic if only she could be holding Kay's hands the fires
would all look more beautiful, she wanted to go to the cabin, get under the
covers and cry.

Surprisingly none of the girls saw them come into the yard and sit around
one of the tables, they were next to each other but with a good couple of
feet separating them, Mrs. Fester and Melissa were serving hot dogs and
cheeseburgers that they had grilled specially for this date, all the girls
were happy and kept talking nonstop about the activities they wanted to do
in the next week and how they wanted to beat so and so at Kayaking and that
this shirt looked better if it was pink etc.

Kay and Alice were eating quietly, while the other members were telling
each other scary ghost stories.

"Can you pass me the water?" Kay asked Alice stretching her hand as long as
she could but still unable to touch the cold jar with the precious liquid.

Alice complied, their fingers touched and their eyes met for a fraction of
a second, but it was long enough for goose bumps to raise all over Alice.

"Are you cold?" Kay asked pretending to be oblivious to the reaction her
touch had awakened in Alice.

"Yeah, a little. I think I'm going to head back to the cabin, I'll see you
later."

Alice regained her strength and stood up picking up after herself like
usually and dispensing the garbage into the can intended for the purpose.

Alice opened the door and went inside the cabin, it felt so empty, so cold
without Kay and she wondered if that was they way she was going to feel for
the rest of the weeks here at the camp, she missed her friend and at the
same time she wasn't sure if indeed she wanted to stay as friends with this
girl that captivated her every single day. She sat on one of the chairs and
stared out the window, she could see the tree branches dance with the wind
every time a rocket exploded in the air, some of them green and yellow but
most were blue and red in salute to the flag of her beloved country.

After what seemed to her like an hour she heard voices outside the door and
decided to go and investigate the sources.

"Leave me alone Sandra, how many times do I have to tell you that you and
me were over even before we started, listen I'm tired of you stalking me
and showing up wherever I decide to go, today you went a little too far,
you hurt Alice and that's just unbelievable." Kay sounded really upset and
loud.

"She is not even gay Kay, understand, she's a city girl, she would never
make you happy, I love you." Sandra was sobbing

"You are obsessed with me Sandra; you don't even know what love is." Kay
took a deep breath and addressed Sandra one more time.

"Listen go to bed, tomorrow I assure you that you will feel better."

The door opened and Kay stepped inside the house, when she saw Alice
standing there in the middle of the tiny living room her heart sank, her
eyes looked puffy and her nose was red.

"Did you hear all that?"

Alice nodded, she felt heavy, like if she had been nailed to the wooden
floor.

"I'm sorry I put you through so much in a single night. I meant to tell you
in a different way but I got really scared when I saw Sandra whispering
something to you and then when I realized that she didn't accomplished her
mission it was too late."

"Don't apologize Kay, I feel honored that a girl like you could be
attracted to me. Now if don't mind I'm going to bed, I'm exhausted."

"Good night" Alice said and went to sleep leaving Kay standing in the
middle of the living room.

When Kay woke up she could smell fresh bacon and scrambled eggs, she
realized that Alice wasn't in the bed and her heart skipped a beat at the
thought of Alice cooking breakfast for her.

"Good morning sunshine" Alice said peaking through the door frame. It
looked like she had been awake for quite a while.

"Come on your breakfast is getting cold"

"What are you talking about Al; you cooked for me?"

"No silly I cooked for us, and if you don't get your booty out of bed I'm
going to have to do it again."

Alice went back into the kitchen, she was trying her best to act as if
nothing had happened but it was really hard to look at Kay like a friend
anymore. She needed to talk to her mom and ask her how she could know that
what she was feeling for Kay was only affection or love.

Kay walked in interrupting her thoughts; she looked so pretty with her hair
undone and her pajamas that Alice had to look away in order to avoid
staring, she was definitely attracted to Kay Lewis.

They both sat down and started eating; Alice also had some orange juice on
plastic cups that she had taken form Melissa earlier that morning.

"I didn't know that you and Sandra had dated? Why didn't you tell me that
you were a . . . you know, I thought I was your friend, I would have
understood." Alice spoke on a reproving tone.

Kay didn't say anything for a few minutes and their eyes met again Kay's
were watery.

"I'm sorry Alice I never meant to hurt you in any way, I called my dad last
night and told him what happened, he's picking me up in a few hours so if
you don't have anything to say I'm going to start packing my stuff up."
With that Kay slid the chair back and headed for the bedroom door.

Alice was struck with immobility, did she hear right? Was Kay leaving for
real? What if she never saw her again? Panic took over Alice and she
decided that it was time for her to go call her mom. She went into the room
where Kay was throwing everything in her suitcase without folding them, she
was crying again and Alice felt so sad, she wanted to hug her and comfort
her but she was terrified of what she might feel. Alice opened her suitcase
and took her cell phone out only to have the sad realization that she had
no service, no wonder Mrs. Fester had given them a specific phone for them
to contact her. So what was she going to do now, she was going to have to
find out on her own, without her mother's precious advice.

Alice walked up to Kay and took the clothes from her hands. She placed them
carefully on the mattress and wiped Kay's tears off with her fingers. Kay
closed her eyes and sat on the bed, her touch felt so good, calming and
dangerous because she had to remember that Alice was just her friend,
nothing else but a friend.

Alice placed her hands on Kay's knees and parted them to the sides; she
knelt in the center and looked at the confused Kay looking down at her.

"You can't leave Kay" Alice said almost pleading.

"And why is that Alice? Give a reason why I should stay or even come back
to this camp ever in my life."

"That reason is me." Alice took Kay's hands and kissed her knuckles. "You
have to stay because you love me and because I love you too."

"You don't know what you are saying Alice"

"Yes I do Kay; I want to be your girlfriend"

Kay removed her hands from Alice's face and remembered how good those
kisses felt on her knuckles. She had to use all her will to look away from
those eyes that drove her crazy.

"You can't be my girlfriend because you are not like me and because my dad
is on his way here to pick me up."

"What makes you think I'm not like you, that I don't feel the same way, the
fact that I have had no girlfriend doesn't mean anything."

"That is not what I'm referring to, Al, I don't want to get hurt, I don't
want to hurt you either, and this would never work out that's why I didn't
tell you anything before."

"You don't know that, but you know what you're probably right, you and me
would never work out because you are too self-centered and all you care
about is you getting hurt and bla bla bla. I'm sorry for trying to put in
jeopardy you runaway plan, good luck with your career and everything else;
it was nice meeting you Kay Lewis."

Alice stormed out of the room and slammed the front door with all her
might, she ran and ran until there was no more trails left and she had to
stop to catch her breath.

"I shouldn't have talked to her or try to fix things up, it all ended up
worse, and now she's leaving." Alice was talking to herself, and didn't
realized the water near the lake was moving irregularly, when she got
closer she realized it was a little bird that by the looks of it seemed
like it had fallen off a tree branch and ended up soaked, Alice picked him
up in her hands and started heading back to the cabin thinking about a
suitable name for her new friend.

When she finally reached the cabin the little baby's feathers were almost
dry but she was worried that it might be hungry so she decided to give him
some bread crumbs.

"Alice we need to talk" Kay startled Alice making her jump and drop the
birdie, he started flying but he was so weak that after a couple tries he
had to give up and let Alice protect him again.

"I thought you were gone already, you scared me to death." Alice replied
without looking at her, she resumed her feeding activity.

"Where did you find the bird?" Kay asked getting closer and touching the
little black head of the baby.

"It was drowning in the lake, so I decided to help him out."

"No wonder I couldn't find you" Kay said.

"I was thinking about us and what you were saying about me being self
centered and all that and I agree with you, I called my dad and told him
not to come, that I'll be fine."

Alice was looking at Kay now, and she could see the glint of hope in her
eyes and her little heart was fluttering uncontrollable. The bird was
eating happily and making little noises on top of the table.

"Do you think Mrs. Fester would give us a little cardboard box so the
birdie can sleep warm tonight?" Alice asked avoiding Kay's request to talk
about their situation.

"Well mmh. . . I don't know, maybe if you ask her nicely she would give it
to you and don't forget to smile." When Kay finished talking Alice was just
inches away from her, god only knew how much she wanted to kiss her, but
she wasn't going to act on impulse or rush into anything, she would let
Alice decide when.

"Are you flirting with me Miss Lewis?" Alice spoke almost in a whisper as
she was getting closer and closer to Kay; she raised her fingers and
touched Kay's lips softly.

Kay closed her eyes, it felt so good, to be touched by Alice, and she
wanted to kiss her so badly.

Alice's body was just centimeters away and Kay could feel the heat that she
was emanating, her smell; she could see the up and down of her chest every
time she breathed threatening to touch her own.

"You are so beautiful Kay" Alice whispered into Kay's ear, while moving her
fingers down her neck and arms and resting her hands on Kay's thighs
pulling her even closer.

"Alice what are you doing?" Kay closed her eyes and put her hands on
Alice's lower back, her legs felt weak, she wasn't aware of her
surroundings anymore all she could see was Alice all she could hear was
Alice's whispers, all she could feel were Alice's hands moving slowly up
and down her lower body.

"How about we get that box babe?" Alice said right when Kay thought she was
going to kiss her.

"Right now?" Kay complained refusing to let go of Alice.

"We'll be right back hon, come on. The birdie is getting cold. Come with
me."

They got out making sure the door was closed behind them so the baby bird
wouldn't try to escape, even though he was weak he might want to wonder
around the house. They reached the brown cabin soon and Mrs. Fester was
happy to provide with a box big enough for the little animal to sleep in,
Melissa gave them a little towel to help keep it warm. The girls headed
back to their little cabin and on the way saw all the other members playing
dodge ball near the lake.

The girls where holding hands on the way back happily staring at each other
and talking.

"Did I hear wrong or you called me babe earlier?" Kay teased Alice.

"Yes you heard right, unless you want to remain single after all those
tears that you shed for me."

"I can't wait to kiss you" Kay squeezed Alice's hand and opened the door
for her.

"After you my lady" Kay said stepping aside so Alice could get in.

"Thank you ma'am." Alice froze in the doorframe, she couldn't believe her
eyes. Kay stepped in beside her and her eyes turned red with madness.

"Sandra what the hell are you doing in here and wearing my pajamas?" Kay
almost barked at her ex.

"Excuse me? You told me to wait for you here because you had a surprise for
me and I assumed that you were going to give me what you couldn't last
year, if you know what I mean." Sandra was trying her best to invent the
biggest lie of her life; she wasn't going to let Kay slip so easily in
front of her own bare eyes.

"Huh???" Kay was in shock, what was wrong with Sandra; with everyday that
went by she regretted more and more having kissed Sandra last year. It had
only been one kiss and the psycho already wanted a wedding and all, Kay was
pretty sure that she wasn't even gay; it was just an obsession, but this
time her rich mommy couldn't buy.

"Maybe I should leave you guys alone so you can get this straight because
I'm beginning to get sick of this stupid game." Alice with cardboard in
hand stepped into the kitchen to find he little bird sleeping in the top of
the chair.

"Babe where are you going? Come back here, there's nothing to fix, she's
crazy that's all, I can't believe you trust her more than me." Kay followed
Alice into the kitchen with Sandra right behind her.

"It's not that, I'm just tired of her getting into our business and how did
she get inside our cabin, that's just freaky, I'm going to call
Mrs. Fester."

"No, wait, I'll go, if she comes we'll all have to pack our bags and I know
that by the end of the night you'll be in my cabin apologizing." The weirdo
said looking at Kay. At least that would leave Alice doubting on Kay for a
while or so she thought.

"Right Sandra, sit and wait." Kay said slamming the door with all her
might.

Kay turned and approached Alice; she took both her hands and pulled her
closer.

"Please tell me that you didn't believe her."

"I don't know what to think anymore Kay, put yourself in my shoes."

"If I was in your shoes I would believe you because I trust you, I swear
that I haven't talked to her in all this weeks, that's probably why she is
doing all those things."

"Why didn't you tell me that you and she had been together?"

"Because we weren't, we kissed once but that was it. Besides in what moment
was I going to talk if we've been fighting since last night when I told you
I was in love with you."

"Is that possible, to fall in love so fast I mean?" Alice's expression had
already softened and she was wrapping her arms around Kay's waist.

"Well it never happened to me before but I'm sure that what I'm feeling is
love, and I've been feeling it for quite a while." Kay was getting closer
too, she could almost taste Alice's breath, it was driving her crazy.

"How many girlfriends have you had?" Alice's question surprised Kay, she
wasn't expecting that.

"How do you know you are a lesbian?" Kay's reacted fast and saw confusion
in Alice's deep eyes.

"Because I want you." She said rubbing her thighs against Kay's. Alice
smiled, she knew what she was doing and she loved it.

"You are a teaser" Kay said after trying to kiss Alice, but she kept moving
around avoiding Kay's lips.

"But you love me."

"You got that right."

Finally after all that foreplay Alice lowered her mouth and let Kay kiss
her, the kiss was slow and tender in the beginning, almost shy, and then

"Dad I want you to meet Alice Moorish" Kay said pulling Alice closer to
her.

"It's very nice to meet you Miss Moorish" Kay's dad said shaking Alice's
hand.

Alice smiled and greeted him back.

They went inside the house and sat down at the table.

"Would you like something to drink Mr. Lewis?" Alice said trying to find
something to do, she was anxious and uncomfortable.

"I'm ok Alice, thanks." He replied smiling. He looked so much like his
daughter, and he was so young that you could easily confuse him with Kay's
brother instead.

"Well I'm glad you girls worked things out and it looks like I have a
daughter in law now." Kay's dad said joking around with the girls.

"Dad you are making us feel uncomfortable." Kay and her dad had an awesome
relationship; they talked about everything including way too personal
stuff.

"Why because I caught you girls red handed?"

"What are you talking about?" Kay asked innocently.

"Nothing, don't worry about it, I'll be on my way, I have a bunch of things
to do back at the shop and you know how I like supervising everything
before it goes out." Kay's dad owned a motorcycle repair and body shop
store and he was almost obsessive about his work.

"Ok daddy sorry I got you all worried. I didn't know she was going to come
out to me so fast." Kay was teasing Alice again but she didn't even realize
it, she was lost staring at Kay like a silly goofball.

"Huh?" Alice said coming back from her day dreams.

"My dad is leaving baby you want to say goodbye?"

"It was nice meeting you Mr. Lewis" Alice said raising to her feet and
walking towards the living room with Kay and her dad.

"Kay?"

"Yes dad?"

"Is that a bra?" He couldn't believe his daughter was so mature now; it had
happened so fast, sometimes it was hard to accept the fact that she was an
adult and had her own insecurities and problems.

Alice picked it up awkwardly and folded it quickly. "Sorry" She said
looking at the floor and going redder than a ripe tomato.

"Don't even worry about it girl, look at his face it's a poem, he's just
making fun of us." Kay knew her dad very well and was conscious of his
sense of humor or lack there of.

He kept walking, hugged both girls and turned his loud motorcycle on,
"Behave ladies, and don't make your grandma throw you out." This last
warning as directed to Kay who kept looking at the dust long after her dad
was out of range of vision. Now she would have to explain that she was
Melissa's niece, Mrs. Fester granddaughter, a long and complicated story.

"Kay you didn't tell me that Mrs. Fester was your grandma. Why?" Alice
didn't sound mad, she was hurt. "I thought I heard you say a couple of days
ago that I was your best friend and that I knew everything about you."

" Babe I'm sure there's some things that you haven't shared with me either,
and the reason why I didn't tell you is because the topic hurts me and I
never thought I would see you again after the summer is over."

"So you're just planning on having a summer fling with me?" Alice was
surprised to hear herself snap back so fiercely, she had never been so
possessive before of anything or anyone.

"Listen to me Al because I'm only going to say this once, my mom left me
and my dad when I was about five years old, my dad tried everything and
wasted mad money trying to find her, he did after a couple of years, she
had been living a double life, she had another family, bigger, they even
had a dog, and when my dad confronted her she said she had never loved us
in the first place that she couldn't be happy with what he had to offer. My
grandma was on her side, my dad hates her, he lets me spend the summers
here because he feels sorry that he can't take me out on cruises, or take
me to an amusement park, he works hard, he is a good man." Kay was crying
by the time she finished and Alice was right by her side to hug her and
take the pain away.

"I'm so sorry baby, I'm sorry you had to be in the middle of all this
mess." Alice was holding her tight in her arms right there in the front of
the house she didn't care if someone saw, she loved this girl in her arms
and she was going to fight for her with all her might.

The girls went inside and sat on one of the beds, Alice had her arms around
Kay, and she was wiping off the tears that Kay couldn't stop shedding. They
relaxed on the bed together, holding each other tight and letting their
love get stronger.

After a couple of hours there was a knock on the door, Alice stood up and
went to see who it was.

"Hi Melissa" she said taking the basket that she had brought with some
supper and drinks.

"Hey Alice, how are you girls doing?" Melissa was a quiet girl, always
minding her own business.

"Al right thanks for asking, you all have a good night." Alice said closing
the door and walking towards the kitchen to put away the goodies that the
keeper brought every night.

"We have turkey and brown rice again, you hungry baby?" Alice wasn't, the
food was horrible.

"I'll pass" Kay said from the bedroom, her voice was still affected by her
tears. "I'm hungry for something else." Kay said getting off the bed and
embracing Alice in an intimate way.

"Oh really and what's that?"

"Can't say; I'm afraid you have to guess."

"Could it be me?" Alice was trying to kiss Kay but she was teasing her and
wouldn't let her come too close.

"Maybe" Kay said touching Alice's breast through her tank top.

Kay suddenly looked at Alice very serious and she knew they weren't playing

"I've never felt this way before Al. I care so much about you that for the
first time in my life all my dreams and goals are not my priority anymore;
if you are not there, they're all worthless." After saying that, she kissed
her sweetly on the lips and then hugged her tightly, very tight.

"What in the world makes you think that I'm not going to be there to share
them with you?" Alice cupped her girlfriend's face in her hands and kissed
her nose.

"I love you too Al"



The last day of summer camp was here and the girls hadn't slept in the
whole night, they wanted to spend as much time as possible, they both knew
that a long time would go by before they could hold each other in their
arms again.

The entire luggage was ready; all they were waiting for was their parents
to arrive. When Alice saw her mom's car her heart sank, she had missed her
so much and hoped everything at home was ok for her sake and her brother's
but at the same time she had dreaded this moment because it meant that she
had to say goodbye to her baby.

Kay's dad wasn't there yet and he was going to be a little late but Alice's
mom didn't know her big secret and it would sound kind of suspicious if
Alice requested to stay a little longer besides she knew her mom had to go
back to work right after the long drive home.

Kay was crying and so was Alice but they both had hopes of keeping the
relationship working at least in a long distance kind of way.

They hugged trying to play it cool in front of Alice's mom, after the
introductions and once the bag was in the trunk, there was nothing left to
do but say goodbye.

"I love you babe" Kay said in Alice's ear breaking the embrace.

"I'll see you soon, baby. Don't forget to call me." Alice said the last
part a little louder so her mom wouldn't suspect anything.

She got in the car and waved at Kay, who stood there in the middle of the
road watching Alice go away. But not for long.
