Pizza Parlor Chapter 7 If you could only see the way she loves me, On the ride to the airport in the taxicab Andy had called after he found Amy in bed with another girl, Jenny couldn't stop thinking about her last words with the Quiets. Pat had been screaming at Amy, asking her how she could do this, asking why it had to be her to have a freak dyke for a daughter. Amy had been screaming, crying, yelling that it wasn't like that, that both Amy and Jenny were in love. This didn't make Andy happy, who shoved Jenny into the cab, yelling at her to find her own place to sleep, she didn't need to screw up their family any more than she already had. The last image Jenny had seen was of Amy being slapped by Pat as Andy shook Amy's shoulder roughly. Jenny knew she would never see Amy again. It was a fact. There was no way Amy's parents would ever forgive her for being a lesbian. The tears came down her face silently. Her soul was torn to shreds, and her heart was breaking before she had the chance to numb herself to the pain of it all. Then maybe you would understand, Amy tried her best to make the pain go away. Jenny had just left, never to be seen or heard from again. Now her parents were yelling, telling her not to tell anyone what she had done. They were talking about how it would ruin their business, as if that were the most important thing. Kristie had called, and when Amy told her what had happened, both girls wept at the situation, and the loss of love. The rest of the night Jenny slept on a chair in the airport lobby, hoping no one would ask her to leave. She woke up and caught her flight, and is now sitting on a plane heading back to the one place she had prayed she would never have to see again. All night she had dreamt of Amy...her kiss...her touch...but mostly her eyes. Eyes that could melt Jenny in a heartbeat. Eyes that would become such a dark brown a person couldn't tell whether or not they were actually black. But Jenny knew. Jenny knew that they could become black with passion, with desire. Oh how she hated that she would never see those eyes again. All of the sudden the plane shook a little. Just a bit of turbulence, Jenny thought. She had never been afraid to fly. But then another shake came, harder than the first. Then the entire right side of the plane dipped, only to be brought back up by the captain. A few minutes later all of the air masks in the plane dropped from their overhead compartments as the plane dropped from its altitude in the air. People were crying, trying to get out, and all Jenny could think was that this was the perfect end to the worst day of her life. And when the plane finally hit, her last thought was of Amy. Why I feel this way about our love, Two days later Kristie and Jenny were also on a plane. They were going to New York, neither having asked nor told their parents they were going. They knew there was a funeral today. Jenny's funeral. Neither spoke a word until they met Jenny's parents, who seemed truly heartbroken. Amy tried not to cry as the empty casket was dropped down into the ground. Jenny's parents were kind enough to let Amy and Kristie spend the night with them before they went home in the morning, so long as the girls told them how Jenny was her last months. Kristie and Amy told them stories until late in the evening of how happy Jenny had been. How she had been working at Amy's parents pizza parlor. How she couldn't wait until she got home to see her parents again (they didn't want to upset them any more than they already were). All they did was cry. All four of them. For Amy, it was worse. Kristie had not been as close to Jenny as Amy had, so her life would go on. Jenny's parents could lose themselves in their work so as to not have to think about her. Amy had nothing but the aching in her heart. Her parents had already told her she would not be allowed to work in the store again. No one but Kristie knew the truth about her and Jenny's relationship, so really she couldn't talk to her friends about it. And, more than anything else, Amy knew she would never love anyone like she loved Jenny. Ever. And what I must do, Finally Amy and Kristie decided to get some sleep. Kristie graciously let Amy sleep in Jenny's old room. Amy lay down on Jenny's bed, ready to cry her eyes out, but realized she had to go to the bathroom. As she stepped into the adjoining restroom, she saw it. Sitting on the sink was a razor. A razor that had never been used. A razor with only one purpose. It had been bought for only one purpose. Amy used it. And as the blood slowly drained from her wrist, her last thought was of Jenny. If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says, When she says she loves me.
