  Chapter 16

  Romance



Alexis looked at Emily's tired face. "That's enough for today. You're
mother needs to rest now. Brant, can you get your brother today?" Alexis
asked as she helped Emily from her seat.

 "Yeah, sure. Do you want some help getting her to bed?" Brant asked,
standing.

 "Thank you." Alexis said with a soft smile. "I think I can get her."

 "Mom? Aunt Lex?" Piper called after them as they reached the door of the
kitchen. Alexis held Emily's elbow in one hand, keeping her steady on her
feet. As one they turned to Piper as she ran up to them.

 "I love you two so much. Thank you for telling us, I know it wasn't easy
for either of you." piper said giving them each a long hug. "And don't
worry about the restaurant tonight. I will make sure everything goes smooth
and gets closed down."

 "Piper, you don't have to do that. You always complain when we make you."
Alexis argued.

 "And don't you have that big date tonight? No, Lexie and I will do it."
Emily said, shaking her head.

 "No, you and Lexie are going to go and pend the day in bed together,
relaxing. You both need a break. Plus if my date wants to see me, she can
come to the diner. Now go." Piper said, giving them both a peck on the
cheek before skipping out of the kitchen, getting the last word in as
always. Brant just looked at them and shrugged his shoulders before
following his sisters cue and gave them both a peck on the cheek. "Guess
you better follow the queen's order and go get some rest. Both of you."

 "When did I become the child and the two of you the parents?" Emile asked
with a weak laugh as she patted Brant on the cheek. "I couldn't ask for
better children."
 Alexis turned them and headed towards their room. "Emily?" Alexis said
shocked as a she came to an abrupt stop on the stairs. "Are you okay?"
 Emily looked at Alexis wide eyed. "Baby, do you remember the conversation
we just had with Piper about closing down tonight?"

 "The one we JUST had. Yes, why?" Alexis asked trying to figure out where
Emily was going.

 "You know how she was talking about her date? She said she."

 "Emily, I'm lost. You are goin' to have to give me more than that."

 "She said that if her date wanted to see her SHE would come to the diner."
Emily could see the light bulb light above Alexis' head as she finished her
sentence.

 "Oh. OH. Oh god." Alexis said laughing. "That little shit just came out to
us and did it so we wouldn't notice."

 "Why are you laughing? This is not funny." Emily said, upset.

 "Why isn't it? Times have changed and we are NOT our parents. I mean think
about it. The way she did it. It IS funny." Alexis said giggling.
 Emily stood there on the steps staring at Alexis like she had lost her
mind until she really thought about it. "Leave it to Piper to come out like
that."

 "Oh god. Think if we would have came out to our parents like that. 'Mom
I'm going out on a date with this cute girl from down the street. I'll be
back by nine.'"

 "I could see my mom have a coronary if I did something like that." Emily
admitted with a giggle. Before she knew it, Alexis had her crying with
laughter. They both collapsed laughing on the hallway stairs.

 "Are you two okay?" Piper asked as she rounded the corner with a basket
full of laundry.

 "You are something else." Alexis said still laughing.

 "Okay, what drugs are thee two of you on?" Piper asked shaking her head.

 "You have to tell us something sweetie." Emily said, trying to get her
laughter under control, wiping her tears away with the back of her sleeve.

 "Ok-ay?" Piper said, confused.

 "Did you mean to say he or is your date tonight a girl?" Emily asked with
mock seriousness. She had her answer as soon as she said it. Piper's tan
skin turned bright red.

 "See I told you." Alexis said, laughing.

 "Come up here and sit with us." Emily said, patting the stairs next to
her. Piper sighed and put down the basket. "So now that we know... why
didn't you say something?"

 "I don't know. I guess you two always kept it a secret. I know why now,
but before today..."

 "You were afraid to come to us?" Alexis asked.

 Piper could hear the hurt in her voice. "Aunt Lexie, there were so many
times that I wanted to tell you. I tell you everything. It's just you two
were keeping your love a secret when it was so obvious how much you guys
love each other. I couldn't ask. I couldn't tell you, either of you. I was
so confused. Hell, I'm still confused."

 "God, Piper. I had no idea. I had no clue that you all knew about us or
that you could ever possibly be like me. Like us." Emily said looking down
at Piper.

 "Come on. We have some talking to do but these stairs are killing my
ass. our room or yours?"
 Piper laughed. "That sounds so weird. 'Our room' I am happy you two can be
what you always should have been but this is still going to take some
getting used to. But can I take a rain check on that talk. I need to get my
clothes put up and it's three now. I only have an hour before my shift
starts. And I need a shower." Piper asked as she stood and turned to them.

 "That's fine sweetie. I want to know how it goes though ok?" Emily said,
smiling at here daughter. She couldn't get over how much her daughter had
grown up. 15 years old, she towered over Emily. With her deep tan and
almost black hair, she almost looked more like Alexis than either of her
parents. The one thing she kept of here mother's was her piercing green

 Piper smiled sheepishly. "Sure mom." She said as she turned and bounded
down the stairs.

 "Wow." Emily said softly as she watched Piper scoop up her basket of
clothes and head the way she'd came.

 "Yeah." Alexis agreed. "I need a nap." Alexis said a few minutes later.

 "That sounds good." Emily said standing up.

 "Do you remember when we actually had time to take naps?" Alex asked.

 "I remember sneaking off the the bed room to fool around when the kids
were still young enough to take naps." Emily said with a small laugh. Her
laughter died as she saw the look in Alexis' eyes. That was just what she

 "Race you to the bedroom." Emily said, her voice heavy with desire as she
flew up the last few stairs. Alexis was still more fit that Emily and

crooned as she looked at her partner laying on the bed. "How did I get so
lucky?" Emily asked as she locked the door.

 "Baby, I am the lucky one. All I have to do is look at you and know that."
Alexis sat on the edge of the bed and pulled Emily towards her, wrapping
her arms around her waist. "I love you. Now and forever."

 Emily ran her hands through Alexis' hair. "I love you too." She sighed as

 "I dunno. Don't you think that Piper will think we are spying on her?
Thinking she can't handle the work load?"

 "Well, I was kind of thinking about spying on her but not for the reasons
you are thinking. Plus, sweetie, when was the last time you actually sat in
your restaurant to just eat and enjoy the food." Alexis asked, looking at
Emily over her shoulder.

 "I guess your right. I still don't feel right about spying." Emily sighed
standing up.

 "Fine. No spying. I'll call down and have them stick us in a dark corner
where we can't see anything."

 "I'm going to take a shower." Emily said, turning and giving Alexis a
kiss.

 "I think I'll join you in just a minute." Alexis said as she reached for
her pants.

 "I think I might just like that." Alexis fished her phone out of her
pocket and called down to Emily's place.

 "Emily's place. This is Jo Ellen. How can I help you today?"

 "Hey Jo Jo this is Lex. You guys busy?"

 "Hi Ms. Frost. We're busy enough. Seems like we have a Friday night crowd
on a Tuesday night."

 "That's good. And will you ever stop calling me Ms. Frost? Call me Lex or
Alexis."

 "Sorry ma'am. So what can I do for you?" Jo Ellen asked in her soft little
voice she had.

 "I was wondering if you could set a table for Emily and myself. Preferably
in one of Emily's curtained tables." Alexis asked. Emily had loved the
thought of a wide open dinning area with smalled tables made for lovers
curtained off and had made it a reality when she designed the interior.

 "I think we can handle that. Will it be just the two of you then?"

 "Yes. Is Piper busy?" Alexis asked.

 "I can find out for you. Mind if I put you on hold?"

 "That's fine." Alexis said as she heard the water turn on in the bathroom.

 "Piper speaking." She heard her girl answer.

 "Hey sweetie. It's Lex."

 "Hey Aunt Lex. Calling to check up on me?"

 "No, nothing like that. I was wondering if it was okay if I brought your
mom down for supper."

 "It's her place. I don't see a problem with that." Piper said a little
annoyed.

 "Are you sure? Your mom didn't want you to think we are spying on you."

 "Well, are you?" Piper asked bluntly. Always Piper's style.

 "No sweetie, we trust you. You've never given your mom or I any reason not
to. We are both very proud of the woman you're becoming."

 "Okay, okay. You can stop now." Piper said, but Alexis could hear the
smile in her voice.

 "Sorry, its true. And I guess if you want me to be completely
honest... I'm probably going to be spying just a tiny bit... at least till
your mom yells at me and pulls the curtain shut. I'm curious to know who
this girl is."

 "Aunt Lex." Piper whined. "Come on it's our first date. Please don't."
Piper begged, showing her age.

 "Fine, I'll be good. So can you have a table set up for us?"

 "Looks like Jo Jo is already on it. I'll see you guys when you come down."
Piper said, all business again.

 "OK, love you sweetie."

 "Love you too. Take care of mom for me."

 "I promise." Alexis said, half way to the bathroom as she hung up the
phone.
