I am driving my last 50 miles and I will be turning in my rig for one last
time.  I am retiring from trucking and I decide to call my beautiful of 30
years through the Bluetooth of my cellphone.

On the 3d ring April answers and says," Hi, honey you ready for your
retirement?"

I said," Yes, I am and we can fire up the Winnebago within a week."

She laughs and says,"No sooner you get off the road you get the stirring to
go back."

I laughed and replied," This time it will be with you and we can take our
time."

She said," OK by the way I have a surprise for you."

I heard her hand the phone over so I waited for a second.

I heard," Dad!  Congradulations on your retirement!"

I yelled," Lizzie!  How are my grandchildren?"

She said," They are doing fine Josiah is now 2 and I can't hardly keep up
with him.  Annie is so impatient to talk to you dad."

All of a sudden I heard," Hi grandpa is it for real that you aren't working
anymore?"

I laughed said," Well I won't be driving a truck anymore as for working
that depends on your grandmother."

Lizzie got back on the phone and said," Dad, I just want to thank you for
everything you have done for us.""

I said," Sweetheart that is what a husband and father is to do to provide
for his family."

She said," No I mean you would schedule your runs around our birthdays and
Christmas so you would be here even though you would take off a day after
our birthdays and Christmas I started realising how much you loved and
cared for us."

I felt tears well up in my eyes with the love of a great family and heard
the phone being passed around.

It was my beautiful wife and she said," Don't deny it you are crying,
because I know you."

I asked," Where is Joey?"

She replied," Oh yeah he is still driving he will be in late tonight and
yes his beautiful wife and the rest of our grandkids wil be here.  How far
are you?"

I said," I should be turning my rig in in about 30 minutes so probably 45
minutes to an hour."

She said," Great, we will be here."

I hung up the phone and drove for another 20 minutes and pulled my rig into
the slot.  As I got out of the tractor I looked at the gold watch I was
given and smiled at the anticipation of starting a new life with April.
The company already had the retirement party for me before I made my run.

I came in and handed my keys to the truck and my boss smiled and said," Are
you ready for your retirement?  We are sure going to hate seeing you go."


I said," I will drop by occasionally but I am ready to get the motorhome
started and tool down the road with April."

He asked," Where all are you 2 heading?"

I said," That is the best part I don't know yet."

I left and walked towards my Ford F150 Lariat and got in and started it and
headed towards the house.  I drove for 15 minutes and pulled into the
drive-way and no sooner have turned off the pickup and got out when Lizzie
came running out of the house.and jumped up into my arms.

She yelled," Grandpa!"

I said," How is my princess?"

She said," Good, look at my new puppy."

I said," He is cute."

She showed me her new stuffed brown puppy dog and she clung to my neck as
we walked inside.

Lizzie smiled and said," That brings back memories how I would sit and
watch out the window and when you pulled into the drive-way I would run out
just like that."

I said," I looked foward to coming home to my family."

Than Neal Lizzie's husband said," Hi Dad."

I said," Neal how is work for you?"

He said," It is going well our agency took on a billion dollar client. I
got a good royalty for finalizing it."

I laughed and said," Great, so your advertsing agency is doing really well
So you are largely responsible for those annoying commercials."

He laughed and said," Guilty."

 We sat and talked and laughed for 3 hours and decided it was time to go to
bed and April ushered Lizzie and Neal to one room and Lizzie went into
another room and got Annie and Brad ready for bed.

April and I went into our bedroom and snuggled up to each other hugging and
holding each other for awhile before drifting off to sleep.
