The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating. The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story. ***** REVIEWS ----- No. 161 - August 24, 1998 Barley Legal Teens by Bronwen F/M, Teen Length: 2,400 words NOTE [Added August 31, 1998] The title of this story is *Barley* Legal Teens and not *Barely* Legal Teens. I read this story, wrote the review, and posted it to my home page without realizing the mistake I made. The next day I got an e-mail from someone who noticed the misspelling. Ooops? Reading the title correctly adds a little something to the story. SUMMARY Laura fondly remembers the summer she was eighteen, Joe, and a field of barley. COMMENTARY The story is well paced. It is both arousing and romantic. I like the way the author transitions from the present to the past, and then back again. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. COMMENTARY This story took me by surprise. It did not exactly go in the direction that I thought it would. I like that. The fact that Sam had conflicting emotions made this story not just enjoyable, but also somewhat plausible. I enjoyed watching Sam try to resist Julie's advances. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. COMMENTARY This story is very well put together. I like all the little details that the author includes. It is about more than just sex. Lee is a woman who is trapped between taking a step forward and living in the past; living her life as someone else wants her to. At times, it was hard to follow where the story was leading. I think this is because the narrator seems torn between living her life as she sees fit and living it for someone else, whether that be Margaret or her mother. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. He makes sure to test it himself. COMMENTARY There is more to this story than meets the eye. There is a bit of a twist at the end. The sex is all consensual, but if you do not care for bondage and discipline then you may want to skip this story. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. I thought there was an appropriate amount of build-up to the sex, but I thought the sex took up a disproportionate amount of the story. JUDGMENT This is a good story, but it is a stroke story. COMMENTARY This is an amusing story. It is well written. It is a stroke story with some humor thrown in for good measure. If I had anything negative to say about this story, it would be that it is a bit too short. I would have liked to see some of the non-sex scenes drawn out just a bit longer. Unfortunately I did not find anything particularly compelling about it. Maybe it is unfair of me to expect all stories to involve some sort of a dilemma, but these are sex stories, after all. I expect to be titillated. This one did not titillate me, but it is well written and coherent. JUDGMENT This is a good story. COMMENTARY This story kept me on edge. I like it. I kept wondering when things were going to devolve, and as far as I can tell they never did. It is a stroke story, but it is very well written. The author did not draw things out too much. I really liked the opening dialogue between Jack and Monica. JUDGMENT This is an excellent story. COMMENTARY This is a well written story. The characters are believable. The plot is well conceived and well executed. The sex scenes were not too long, nor too detailed. One thing that struck me about this story is how it seems to be focused on Kathryn. What I mean to say is that if she is not thinking about something or someone, or interacting with them, they do not seem to exist. It gives the story a surrealistic feel. This is not a bad thing, but I would like to have seen a little more of the world, including things that Kathryn does not see. JUDGMENT This is a very good story. The note after the story makes me think that the author wrote this story in hopes that someone else would write another story. JUDGMENT This is a good story. Length: 1,900 words SUMMARY Angela Martin, a school teacher, submits to the headmaster's sexual harassment. COMMENTARY I do not care for this story. What bothers me the most is the way in which the sexual relationship between the two characters develops. Unless there is more to this story that the author is not telling us, she could probably get him fired. There was too much action and not enough emotion in this story. If Angela had initiated the sexual contact, then maybe I could get some clue as to what she in thinking or how she feels. JUDGMENT This is not a good story.
