The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating. The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story. ----- Arousal Factor - This is a measurement of how arousing I found a story to be. Story Factor - This is a measurement of how good I found a story to be, devoid of whether there is a lot of sex in it or not. In determining the story factor I take into consideration the plot, the characters, and other more technical aspects, such as spelling and grammar. Possible values for Arousal and Story Factor are, in ascending order: Nonexistent, Low, Average, High, Ultra ***** REVIEWS ----- Rogue Review No. 267 - November 22, 1998 Orange County Babylon (Part 8 of 8) by MichaelD38 F/F Length: 15,000 words Rating: - Arousal Factor: Low Story Factor: - SUMMARY Michelle and Corinne come out of the closet. Jack, Karen, Summer, and Becky get ready to go to college. COMMENTARY What sex there is in this installment is at the very beginning. For the most part this, the final part of the story, ties up the loose ends. Jack learns a lot about living and loving in the year that he lives with his foster family. COMMENTARY This is a very well written novel. It has several plot lines and a decent amount of sex. Sex is not the be all, end all of this story. The author makes a serious attempt at dealing with some moral issues, including the juxtapositon of an active premarital sex life and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. This is a long story. If you are just looking for something to beat off to then I advise you read part seven, and skip the rest. This is not to say that there is no sex in the other parts, or that I did not find it arousing, just that the story does not revolve around sex in the other parts as much as does in the seventh one. Friedman F/M, Inc, Teen Length: 4,500 words Rating: Excellent Arousal Factor: High Story Factor: High SUMMARY Lila has nothing to look forward to at Thanksgiving, except seeing her cousin Steve. COMMENTARY This is a fun story. The author takes the time to set the stage. It takes some time before the sex begins. One thing that I like about this story is the restraint the author shows. Possibly it is not that the author is restraining herself, but that she wants to do more than describe a sexual encounter. Either way, I like that the author keeps the story simple, including the sex. COMMENTARY How dumb can one man be? This story attempts to answer this question. Developing an infatuation for your 18-year-old daughter's best friend is one thing; acting on it is another. The narrator deserves what he gets in the end. There is a point in this story where I felt the plot was advanced just a bit too easily. It was a let down, but the ending made up for this slip up, by author, in part. M/F/F, Teen Length: 5,000 words Rating: Very Good Arousal Factor: Average Story Factor: Average SUMMARY Steven, in his thirties, plays "Truth or Dare" with Laurie and Heidi, both 19, with inevitable consequences. COMMENTARY I found this story arousing. It is reasonably well written, but I was a bit disappointed that there was not more "teasing" leading up to the sex. Smith M/F Length: 9,400 words Rating: Very Good Arousal Factor: Average Story Factor: High NOTICE If you are easily offended or under the age of eighteen then please do not read what follows. COMMENTARY This is a very well written story, but there is more to the story than there is to the sex. What I mean is that the sex is not essential or even integral to the plot. A large chunk of this story is spent developing an interracial romance. Mike and Cindy discuss real world problems with interracial friendships. I think the author handles this quite well. He treads a thin line between stereotyping and being unrealistic, and in my opinion he did an admirable job. COMMENTARY This is a short, short story which is told in the second person. It is definitely more sex than story, i.e. it is a stroke story. Despite what the title seems to indicate, there is only consensual sex in this story. COMMENTARY This story is told in the second person. It is longer on arousal than it is on story. There is a certain amount of tenderness to this story. I really enjoyed the intimacy the author has created between the narrator and his wife. She loves her work, but the computer attached to her brain restricts her freedom. COMMENTARY I like the way the author builds this story up. She gives the reader bits and pieces, here and there. I like the technique and I think she uses it very effectively. The sex is hot, but the story is about more than just sex. The end mystified me. I suppose I should have seen it coming. At the same time I feel as though I missed something. LINKS http://www.qz.to/erotica/assm/Year98/16809.txt http://search.dejanews.com/getdoc.xp?AN=406263580&fmt=raw ***** 12/1/98
