The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating. The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story. ----- Arousal Factor - This is a measurement of how arousing I found a story to be. Story Factor - This is a measurement of how good I found a story to be, devoid of whether there is a lot of sex in it or not. In determining the story factor I take into consideration the plot, the characters, and other more technical aspects, such as spelling and grammar. Possible values for Arousal and Story Factor are, in ascending order: Nonexistent, Low, Average, High, Ultra ***** REVIEWS ----- Rogue Review No. 276 - December 2, 1998 Renewed by Miss Behavin' F/M Length: 8,700 words Rating: Very Good Arousal Factor: High Story Factor: Average SUMMARY With a little help from an old friend, Alexandria manages to get over not getting to take a vacation. COMMENTARY I like the way this story begins. The author does a beautiful job setting the scene. Unfortunately, the plot seems to go out the window. Fortunately, the sex heats things up rather quickly. What makes this story even better is that the author draws out the sex play, in a good way. COMMENTARY This is your basic, run-of-the-mill, menage-a-trois, under-a- waterfall story. I like the narrator's reluctance. She is not forced to do anything she does not want to, but the fact that she does not immediately accept all sexual contact is nice to see. It gives her some depth. COMMENTARY The author of this story shows a lot of restraint. He takes the time to set the scene and let the tension build. It is a shame the story is not longer or more involved. S. Hauser (reposted by The Libertine) F/F/M, F/F, Inc Length: 11,300 words Rating: Excellent Arousal Factor: Ultra Story Factor: High SUMMARY Robin is jealous of Jon, her twin brother, and Daphne, his new girlfriend. It turns out that they are more than willing to share. COMMENTARY Despite the way my summary sounds, this is a very well written story. There is more to it than just sex, but sex is definitely the focus. The characters are very lusty, but they do not leap into bed with one another without first expressing some doubts. In other words, the characters are balanced, even if the focus of the story is not. In particular I liked Robin's asides regarding her mother. F/M, Inc Length: 5,400 words Rating: Very Good Arousal Factor: High Story Factor: Average SUMMARY A young woman, age 22, describes her seduction of her half-brother, age 38. COMMENTARY This story is very arousing. The author lets the tension build before her two characters jump in the sack. I like that. I prefer to see more dialogue than there is in this story. There is more to this story than just descriptions of sex, but sex is definitely the focus of the story. LINK http://search.dejanews.com/getdoc.xp?AN=412345403&fmt=raw ----- Rogue Review No. 281 - December 11, 1998 Tales of the East Indies by Sven the Elder (reposted by John Dark) M/F Length: 4,000 words Rating: Not Good Arousal Factor: Low Story Factor: Low SUMMARY Sven tells us about his infidelities in the East Indies. COMMENTARY I can appreciate what the author was trying to do with this story, but it did not work for me. I look for stories that inspire my imagination and/or libido. This one succeeded in part on the second count, but fell short on the first. The author begins with an introduction, tells two tales, and ends with some concluding remarks. The first tale I liked. It reminded me of one of his more recent stories, "Therapy". The second story I was not so crazy about. While the first tale lacked plot or character development, it did have details that I found arousing. The second tale lacked plot, character development, and arousing details. What it did have was a description of a sexual encounter with a strange woman. I suppose that I am not being fair to the author. The thrust of the story is not sex, but rather an attempt to reveal a side of his character. He intends to do this by relating a couple tales. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. Possibly this has to do with cultural differences, or the fact that he is a couple decades older than me, or the fact that he is married and I am not. Either way, this story did not do it for me. COMMENTARY This story is about more than just sex. It is about how fascination with sex can make you do things you probably would not have done otherwise. It is also about taking care of those who are less fortunate. If found this story to be mildly arousing. I probably would have enjoyed it more if there had been a bit more to the story.
