  RATINGS

In order from best to worst I rate stories as follows:

Outstanding
Excellent
Very Good
Good
Grudgingly Good
Not Good

The "Outstanding", "Excellent", "Very Good", and "Good" ratings
indicate, to varying degrees, that I like the story.

The "Grudgingly Good" rating indicates that I think the story is
well written, but that I find some of the elements in the story
so disturbing that if I were to review the story based solely on
my personal tastes I would give it a "Not Good" rating.

The "Not Good" rating indicates that I do not like the story.

Arousal Factor - This is a measurement of how arousing I found a
story to be.

Story Factor - This is a measurement of how good I found a story to
be, devoid of whether there is a lot of sex in it or not. In
determining the story factor I take into consideration the plot, the
characters, and other more technical aspects, such as spelling and
grammar.

Possible values for Arousal and Story Factor are, in ascending order:

   Nonexistent, Low, Average, High, Ultra

Rogue Review No. 293 - January 1, 1999

Seeing Stars by Poison Ivan

M/F

Length: 5,300 words

Rating: Outstanding

Arousal Factor: High
Story Factor: Ultra

  SUMMARY

Told in the first person, the narrator remembers how a night with
Dawn, his girlfriend, helped him get over a bad week at work.

  COMMENTARY

This story is very arousing, but there is much more to it than just
sex.

The narrator seems to be going through a bit of a depression when the
story begins. He spends a night with Dawn, during which they have
sex, but to me that was just the setting. To me, the story is about
what brings him out of his funk, which happens to be a night he
spends with Dawn.

I like both characters. They seem very real. The plot is simple,
but it works. It works for me because it feels very real; in
particular the emotional roller coaster ride that the narrator
experiences during the course of the story.

There are a couple other things I like about this story. It has a
fair amount of dialogue in it. I like dialogue. The author picked a
great name for the narrator's girlfriend, Dawn. Even though it might
sound a bit too cute as the title, the phrase "A Night with Dawn"
kept running through my head as I read this story.

This Is What Happens by Losgud

M/F, Inc

Length: 11,800 words

Rating: Excellent

Arousal Factor: High
Story Factor: High

  SUMMARY

The main character of this story manages to keep it in the family
while cheating on his wife.

  COMMENTARY

This story is a lot of fun read. Sex is at the heart and soul of it.
While there is nothing deeply profound or moving about it, the author
does do a wonderful job building up to the sex, providing interludes
between sex scenes, and wrapping the story up.

The sex itself is beautifully described as the main character finds
himself trying to juggle two women, his wife and his cousin. While
the situation the main character finds himself in is the sort of
thing that fantasies are made of, there are also some very human
touches in this story.

Stolen Moments by Watcher

M/F

Length: 6,100 words

Rating: Outstanding

Arousal Factor: Low
Story Factor: Ultra

  SUMMARY

John falls for Barbara, a married woman and a client of the firm he
works for.

  COMMENTARY

This is a very well written story. It is not very arousing, but it
does have it's moments. For the most part it is about what leads
John to screw Barbara. John is attracted to Barbara because she is
a beautiful woman, but the story is more than just a matter of how to
get her into bed. John has some scruples, and some business sense.
He does not want to wreck his own life just for a piece of ass. In
the end he makes a decision that costs him, but John is not
pollyannish. He knows his actions have consequences.

This is not a stroke story, but it is better than the overwhelming
majority of the stories that can be found on ASSM.

My Uncle and I by Susan

f/M, f/f/M, Teen, Inc

Length: 11,400 words

Rating: Very Good

Arousal Factor: High
Story Factor: Average

  SUMMARY

Susan and her uncle experiment with sex.

  COMMENTARY

This story has plot, but isn't dominated by plot. What it does have
is a lot of sex. There is enough plot to balance out the sex, but
they are definitely not present in equal amounts.

I liked the characters. They did not seem to have their minds made up
that they were going to have sex from the first sentence. There was
also enough plot that the characters actually had make some decisions.
They were not incredibly dynamic characters, but they were very well
rendered for a stroke story.

We Needed His Help by Crystal D.

f/f/M, Teen, Inc

Length: 5,100 words

Rating: Excellent

Arousal Factor: Ultra
Story Factor: High

  SUMMARY

Crystal and Shellie find themselves in a bind. They turn to
Shellie's brother Tom for some help. He is more than willing to
help, provided Crystal is willing to make it worth his while.

  COMMENTARY

I like this story, a lot. It has more sex than plot, but the author
does a wonderful job with the details. She does not focus on the
physical action as much as she does on the emotional reactions of the
three characters to the predicament they find themselves in.

I think it is also worth mentioning that the incest in this story is
described by someone who abets it, but not by one of the
participants. I don't keep statistics, but it seems to me that this
is the exception and not the rule. In other words most incest
stories are related by someone who is committing incest and not
someone who is observing it. Its always nice to see something
different.

Rogue Review No. 299 - January 10, 1999

It Happened One Night by Al Steiner

M/F/F

Length: 7,100 words

Rating: Very Good

Arousal Factor: High
Story Factor: High

  SUMMARY

Al comes home late one night and finds his wife, Laura, and their
neighbor, Sharon, discussing Sharon's sex life. Laura offers Sharon
Al's "services". The story develops from there.

  COMMENTARY

This is a fun read because the author takes the time to set the
scene. He does not rush the sex. He realizes that there is more to
telling an erotic story than just describing physical actions.

As far as the story goes, Al may be the narrator, but it is Laura
who calls most of the shots. Sharon is a reluctant participant
throughout the story, but she does seem to enjoy herself.

While this story does have a plot and some discussion of the
consequences of unprotected sex, for the most part it is a stroke
story.

Rogue Review No. 300 - January 11, 1999

Remote-Control Wife by DG

M/F

Length: 4,800 words

Rating: Excellent

Arousal Factor: High
Story Factor: Ultra

  SUMMARY

Its Cindy's birthday and DG has a surprise for her, a remote-
controlled vibrator. After testing it at home they go to the mall
and see how much fun they can have with it in public.

  COMMENTARY

This is a stroke story; no doubt about it. Despite this fact I think
the author did a wonderful job with it. While the focus is on sex, a
good deal of the story takes place while DG and Cindy both have their
clothes on. This fact does not make the story any less arousing. In
fact, it probably makes the story even more arousing.

If you like this story and you have not already read "Batteries
Included" by Miss Behavin', then I recommend that you do. I reviewed
it in Digest No. 27.

When I first saw this title I thought this was going to be a mind
control story. It is not. All the sex is consensual.
