Outstanding
I have decided to reinstate the 'Outstanding' rating. In
doing so it occurs to me that there are a number of stories
that I have reviewed since I last handed out an
'Outstanding' that I gave an 'Excellent', that should have
received an 'Outstanding'. The 'Outstanding' rating
indicates that a story is a personal favorite of mine. The
author did such a good job in both crafting the story and
(usually but not always) arousing me that I will have a hard
time forgetting the story. It is not an objective statement
by me, but rather a subjective one. I have given stories
very high objective ratings without giving them an
'Outstanding'. That just means that the story was lacking
the 'oomph' necessary for me to give it an 'Outstanding'. I
can't quantify the 'oomph' but I know whether a story has it
or not when I read it. Furthermore, a story needs to be
well written, at the very least for me to to even consider
giving it an 'Outstanding', regardless of whether it has
that 'oomph' or not. Anyhow, here are the stories whose
ratings I will be changing from 'Excellent' to
'Outstanding':

TITLE: If This World Were Mine
AUTHOR: Anthony Matthews
LENGTH: 3,500 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Male
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (Female, Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Brother-Sister
KINK(S): --
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --
SUMMARY: David is shaken up over his breakup with his
girlfriend. He manages to find a shoulder to cry on, his
sister Carmen's.
COMMENTARY: I really like the way this story is constructed.
There isn't too much emphasis on the sex, but it is
definitely there. I like the fact that the story doesn't
feel forced. It seems to have a natural flow to it. There
are parts of this story that I found very arousing, and
there are other parts that I found very touching. David
isn't the narrator, but he does get a lot more attention
from the author than does Carmen.

TITLE: Cousin Swap
AUTHOR: Titmouse
LENGTH: 3,200 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Male
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (Female, Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Unmarried Couples
KINK(S): Partner Swapping
SETTING(S): Car
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --
SUMMARY: While on a double date, Alec half-jokingly suggests
that Eve and Jody switch partners. He didn't think that
they would actually go for it.
COMMENTARY: This is a fun story. It isn't a very long story
and there isn't too much to it, but like I said it is a fun
read. The author does a good job making both the narrator
and the woman he ends up with, Jody, seem realistic. They
are both eager but they are also both apprehensive, at
first. The author also does a nice job of giving you the
feel of the overall mood inside the car where the two
couples are going at it.

TITLE: Destiny
AUTHOR: Al Steiner
LENGTH: 6,500 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Male
COMBINATION(S): Threesome (2 Females, 1 Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
Homosexual (Female)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Coworkers
KINK(S): --
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --
SUMMARY: A police helicopter pilot helps his partner Denise,
who happens to be a lesbian, hook up with Destiny, a pretty
young nurse.
COMMENTARY: I like the way this begins. The author takes
the time to make the world that the story takes place in
seem real; and does so quite nicely. I was not as impressed
with the rest of the story. One of the characters, Destiny,
seems more of a body than an actual woman. She seems more
like a go-between for the narrator and Denise, so that they
can share the one thing that they never have shared with one
another. I got that impression more from reading into the
story than I did from just accepting what the narrator told
me. I say this because the story left me a bit flat at the
end and wondering what the hell it was supposed to be about
in the first place; so I reread it a couple times and that's
what I came up with.

TITLE: Feasting Anna
AUTHOR: Virago Blue
LENGTH: 2,800 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Female
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (Female, Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Friends
KINK(S): --
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --
SUMMARY: The story begins with Anna having dinner with her
best friend, Seth. They have been friends for a long time
but never been lovers.
COMMENTARY: I'm afraid that if I say too much about this
story that I will ruin it for potential readers. It is a
fun read. I liked both Seth and Anna; they seemed realistic
enough. The story doesn't really get into anything too
deep. It is less than 3,000 words. My impression is that
it may appeal a bit more, but not too much so, to female
readers than to male ones.

TITLE: Partners
AUTHOR: Maria Gonzales
LENGTH: 11,200 words

ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)

KINK(S): Exhibitionism
SETTING(S): Home

GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --
SUMMARY: Felicitas Ramirez is a cop who enjoys the thrill of
selling her body. She explains her problem to her partner,
Frank Williams. He has a hard time coping with the reality
of her situation, but not because he doesn't care.
COMMENTARY: I like this story, but it is not a technical
masterpiece. I can see what the author is trying to do with
the story, but I do not think that she is entirely
successful. One problem that I have with the story is that
it flows much too quickly. The reader is not given enough
time to absorb what is going on. Another problem that I
have with the story is that there is a lack of subtlety.
Things are explained much too explicitly.
I do like the characters. They seem realistic, but if the
author could have done a better job with some of the
elements that I spoke of in the last paragraph then maybe I
would liked them and the story a little more.

SUMMARY: Mac and Pam double date with Rick and Deb.
COMMENTARY: Wow! This story is hot. It sizzles. There
isn't a whole lot dialogue, and normally that would bother
me, but this time it doesn't. The author does a wonderful
job with describing the scene that involves these four
people. The focus doesn't rest for too long in any one
place. Also, the author does more than just describe
physical actions, but also gets into describing the
emotional state of his characters.
On the down side, there are a number of spelling errors. At
times this may confuse the reader as to who is doing what to
whom. While the spelling errors are an eyesore, they were
not so many as to interfere with my enjoyment the story.
...
Okay, I've decided to blab on a little more, so bare with me
-- er -- bear with me. I was thinking about this story,
after rereading it, and I began to wonder about what it was
that made me like it so much. I think that it has to do
with the narration. Specifically, the narrator, Mac, allows
Pam to -- er -- pull him into a situation that both arouses
and distresses him at the same time. His descriptions give
the impression that he isn't the only one experiencing mixed
emotions. The end result is a wild sex scene involving Mac
and Pam and Deb and Rick, in which it turns out that his
anxiety was groundless. I don't know if I can explain it
any better than that, but I enjoyed this story so much that
I felt that I should take another crack at explaining it to
you.

TITLE: The Teacher
AUTHOR: Dude
LENGTH: 7,200 words

ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Teacher-Student (High School)
KINK(S): Exhibitionism
SETTING(S): Car
School
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --
SUMMARY: David, a 34-year-old high school teacher, catches
one of his students, 17-year-old Bonnie Kelly, cheating on a
test. She does her best to get out of the hot water she has
gotten herself into, by flirting with him. He does his best
to ignore her forwardness, but is not very successful.
COMMENTARY: I have mixed feelings about this story. I
enjoyed it quite a bit, but it has a rather abrupt ending.
It seemed as though the author ran out of steam or interest
while writing it. Still, it drew me along until the sudden
ending. Both characters are interesting and seem plausible
enough. They each have their own problems to overcome. I'm
not too sure that I buy into their individual reasons for
getting hot and heavy together, especially David's. If any
part of the story seemed a bit shaky to me, that was it,
other than the ending, of course.
