Rogue Review No. 480 - December 18, 1999

TITLE: The Reluctant Bride
AUTHOR: Mike Hunt
LENGTH: 6,200 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Male
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (Female, Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Friends
KINK(S): --
SETTING(S): Church

GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --

SUMMARY: Gail is nervous about getting married to Brian.
Unlike her husband-to-be, she has never sown any wild oats,
so to speak. In other words, the only man she has ever
slept with is Brian, and if she remains faithful and married
then he will be the only man she ever sleeps with. So, she
calls up Mike, one of Brian's friends, and invites him over
for a little tête-à-tête, so to speak.

COMMENTARY: This is a very well written story. It happens
to be both arousing and amusing. On the whole I would say
that it is more arousing than amusing, but the humor is
definitely there. The author does a very nice job setting
the scene and then carrying through with the plot. The
narrator's sarcastic asides brought a smile to my face on
more than one occasion. The sex had a slightly different
effect on me.

Rogue Review No. 481 - December 28, 1999

TITLE: Sis On Tape
AUTHOR: Bernard Sagon
LENGTH: 16,400 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Male
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (Female, Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Brother-Sister
KINK(S): Voyeurism
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --

SUMMARY: Ken catches his sister on videotape, screwing one
of her professors. He decides to blackmail her, but things
don't work out quite as he had planned.

COMMENTARY: There some things about this story that I do
like. The author does a credible job setting it up. The
sex is arousing. It is a brother-sister incest story, which
I often enjoy, even though I don't have any sisters.

There are three things, in particular, that I do not like
about this story. One, the pacing of the plot is
disappointing. The story just keeps going and going,
straight ahead, without any breaks. Two, I am unsatisfied
with the way everything works out neatly in the end. The
premise of the story is unrealistic enough, but I have read
and enjoyed other stories that were built upon similarly
unrealistic foundations. Yet, in this case, I have a hard
time believing that the world this one takes place in bears
anything other than a passing resemblance to our own.
Three, I had a hard time sympathizing with Ken. Everything
went his way, so why should I care whether he gets to score
with his sister or not? He says that his sister has the
upper hand when it comes to dealing with their parents, but
he never really shows it; he only says so.

OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS: 6.0 (out of 10)

SUMMARY: Its Christmas and Kristina is at a ski resort with
her sister, Amanda, and her brother-in-law, Will.
Unfortunately, Kristina isn't a very good skier.
Fortunately for her, her heart is set on more than just
learning how to ski. That's where a ski instructor named
Nick enters the picture and...

COMMENTARY: I enjoyed this story quite a bit. I like the
manner in which the author builds it up. I like the
characters, in particular Kristina. She seems very
realistic, primarily because she experiences conflicting
emotions. That says a lot about her. It says even more to
me about the author's ability. I also enjoyed the dialogue,
especially the conversations between Kristina and Amanda. I
think that most of you should enjoy this story.

SUMMARY: Jack, 26 and fresh out of law school, is stuck at a
Christmas party that he really doesn't want to be at. The
hostess asks him to look after Sarah, her 16-year-old
daughter.

COMMENTARY: I found this story to be both well written and
arousing. I enjoyed the narration and the approach that the
author takes. He draws the story out and does not rush
things, despite its length. The only negative thing I can
think of, to say about this story, is that there are quite a
few typographical errors.

I would not refer to this story as romantic, but at the same
time there is some give and take between Jack and Sarah. I
this that this story should appeal to most of you, male and
female alike.

Rogue Review No. 484 - December 30, 1999

TITLE: Psychology
AUTHOR: Michael K. Smith
LENGTH: 5,300 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Female
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (Female, Male)
ORIENTATION(S): Heterosexual (Female, Male)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Brother-Sister
KINK(S): --
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --

SUMMARY: Sherry turns to her older brother Kevin for help
with her research project for her psychology class. The
topic is incest.

COMMENTARY: What impresses me the most about this story is
the author's restraint. He doesn't feel the need to explain
everything. He sets the mood and then just gives nudges
here and there to let reader know how Sherry and Kevin are
feeling. He doesn't say that she smiled after sleeping with
her brother because it was an intense and enjoyable
experience. He just says she smiled, after sleeping with
her brother. It is left up to the reader to interpret the
smile. Its all about showing and not telling.

On a similar note I was also happy to see that the author
did not rush the plot. Sherry and her brother do not have
an orgy-to-end-all-orgies, from the first paragraph to the
last. They aren't so horny that they forget who they are or
who it is that they are lusting for. They have doubts, as
well as desires. That seems quite natural and realistic to
me. It also makes the story more enjoyable.

If you don't care for stories of incest or brother-sister
incest, then you may want to skip this one, otherwise I
cannot see why anyone who enjoys erotica should object to
this story.

Rogue Review No. 485 - January 2, 2000

TITLE: Dress Rehearsal
AUTHOR: Ann Douglas
LENGTH: 7,400 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Female
COMBINATION(S): Twosome (2 Females)
ORIENTATION(S): Homosexual (Female)
RELATIONSHIP(S): Friends
KINK(S): --
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): --

SUMMARY: Amber is an actress. She is having trouble with a
role she is playing on a popular television program. The
problem involves a scene in which she kisses another woman.
The problem is that she is about to lose the role because
she isn't doing a very convincing job in the kissing scene.
Amber's friend, Heather, has a remedy.

COMMENTARY: I like the premise for this story and I like the
way the author sets it up, for the most part. It is well
paced. The sex is arousing.

My problem with this story is that neither Amber nor
Heather face dilemmas that require most of their energy. It
is entirely possible that they do, but the author chose not
to focus on them. Is it unfair of me to expect their
personal crises to be the focus of the story? Possibly, but
I only do so because that is exactly what fascinates and
titillates me the most. Should she or shouldn't she kiss
Heather? What sort of a message would she be sending? What
if she enjoys it? I find a story that focuses on these
issues to be more interesting and enjoyable than one that
focuses on relating a series of events, which is what I
perceive the case to be here.

Depending on how you react to the last paragraph I wrote,
you may or may not enjoy this story more than I did. If you
don't care for stories that involve lesbian relationships
then you should probably skip this one.

Rogue Review No. 486 - January 3, 2000

TITLE: Mercedes
AUTHOR: Morgan Preece
LENGTH: 14,900 words
MAIN CHARACTER: Male
COMBINATION(S): Twosomes (*)
ORIENTATION(S): *
RELATIONSHIP(S): Strangers
KINK(S): Femdom, Transgender Transformation
SETTING(S): Home
GENRE(S): --
CAUTION(S): Semi-consensual

SUMMARY: The main character is a young man, a college
dropout in his early twenties. He has been making his
living seducing older women, since he left school. His life
takes a rather dramatic turn the night that he meets Sylvia.

COMMENTARY: This story is divided into two parts, more or
less. In the first half the main character finds himself
dominated by Sylvia and her assistants. In the second half
the transgender transformation occurs.

I found the first half to be quite arousing. The pacing was
great. The main character is used to stringing women along,
but he finds himself to be the one who is getting strung
along. He isn't quite able to accept this fact and yet he
goes along with it. I found this to be very realistic.

I didn't enjoy the second half quite as much as I did the
first. In particular, I have a problem understanding why
the main character allows himself to be transformed. Up to
that point in the story he seems to allow things to happen
to him without really understanding why. At that point he
has to make a decision; continue with a process that has
already begun or return to his old life. He chooses the
former. His mental state isn't entirely apparent. One
possible explanation could be that he says "yes" because
that's what the author wants him to do. He is drugged at
the time, maybe that's why he says "yes," but that does not
explain his acceptance of his new life. Maybe I am just
missing something. Maybe, my problem is that I have a hard
time understanding why a man would want to be a woman. It
isn't a fantasy of mine. Maybe if I did fantasize about
being transformed into a woman then I would understand why
he accepts Sylvia's offer.

Anyhow, this is a very well written story, but if you tend
to prefer romantic, vanilla stories then I recommend that
you steer clear of this one. If, on the other hand, you do
enjoy transgender fiction or happen to have a strong stomach
then I recommend you give it try.
