Tiffany's Diaper Tales Volume I By BabyInDiapers Written 04/26/2004 Revised 06/04/2004 Chapter 086 I awoke the next morning mommy was tickling me and teasing me. "Someone's got a mushy tushie." She said while kissing my forehead. My diaper was totally loaded with pee and poo. It felt all squishy and full and I liked it. Daddy got up and went out into the kitchen while I laid in bed with mommy. She didn't seem in a hurry to change me, but I couldn't blame her cuz I was one messy baby. Teala came into the room a while later looking for mommy and me. "Oh there you are. Get up breakfast is ready." She said. Mommy just yawned. "Eww is Tiffy messy? I'll change her for you if you want?" Teala said as she stepped toward the bed. "OK thanks hun. I'm gonna go change mine as well. Mommy got up and went down the hall into the bathroom. Teala finished wiping me and powdering me. She dressed me in a cute outfit and then took me out to the kitchen. We sat at the table talked and ate. It was so nice to have the whole family back together again, even though it had only been a month or so prior to this visit. After breakfast mommy let me watch cartoons while her and Kathy went shopping. It was not snowing out so they figured they should do the bulk of there Christmas shopping while the weather was cooperating. Tammy and Teala and Amy went along. I said I wanted to stay at home. Daddy was using his laptop to do check e-mail and get some work done for his company. I was flipping through the channels looking for something to watch. It seemed like a lot of channels were off the air. I thought it was strange but figured maybe it was the reception. But wait, Aunt Kathy had cable. A while later I found a show to movie to watch on one of the movie channels. It was boring me so I fell asleep. Daddy woke me up and fed me some lunch and we played together for a while on the playground at a park nearby. We came back home and the girls were still out shopping. "Ok let's put you down for a nap honey." Dad said as he laid me in the crib. "Daddy I wanna watch cartoons please?" I pleaded. "Oh ok sure honey." He said as he carried me out to the living room and turned on the TV. There was no channels that came on at all. Daddy flipped through the menu settings, and checked the cable connection both inside and outside by the telephone box. "Hmm that's strange honey, I suppose they are having some problems with there broadcast repeater equipment in this area, but that is really strange." Daddy said with a puzzled look on his face. "Can me watch DVD then daddy?" "Ok, let's see what we got here for big baby girls to watch. Oh here we go, Cinderella. You'll like this one." "I've already seen it." I said while pouting. "Well someone looks like they could use a nap. Why don't you take a nap with daddy ok?" "Otay daddy." Daddy laid back in his chair and held me close to him and rocked me gently. We both fell asleep. The phone rang and woke us up. It was around 5pm. It was mommy. "Honey, have you heard?" she said. I could hear her since she was on a payphone and yelling into the phone. "What's wrong Tonya?" daddy asked with a concerned tone. "It's the end of the world." She said while crying. This caught my attention. I hopped off of daddy's lap and ran into the kitchen and picked up the other line. "It's a nuclear war Tom!" she said while crying. "What?" dad said. I began to panic. I may have been a little baby girl, but I knew a lot about science and history, and other stuff, and what nuclear war could do. I was crying. "We're going to leave the mall now and come home." Mom said. "What city did they hit?" Dad asked. She couldn't stop crying. "They got Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York." She tried to keep her voice together but it was no use. "Miami! That's close to where we live daddy! I cried after we were off the phone. "What about my Emily and Laura!" I cried. Daddy just held me and cried. Later after we calmed down somewhat, daddy found a radio and found some news. "Disruptions in national TV networks has left America cut off from the news." A voice came over the airwaves. "Five of our nation's largest cities, gone, nothing but fire storms remain. Even those who survived the blast and shock wave, will probably not make it through the hurricane force windows of fire. Our estimates at this time is 12 million dead, I repeat, 12 million dead. This is a sad day for America." The news anchor began to lose it. He cried even on the air without turning off his microphone. What more was there to say. It had to have been Al'Queda. Who else would do this to us? My mind was spinning, and I just felt like I could pass out any moment. It was to much to handle. Daddy and I just held onto each other. Mommy and Aunt Kathy and the girls came home a while later. "It's a mad house out there. Everyone is panicking!" mom said as she held daddy and me. Aunt Kathy and Amy held Tammy and Teala. We began to pray for the people who were killed, for there families, and also we prayed that as many people could survive as possible and not get poisoned by the radiation. It almost seemed hopeless to pray and hope, but it somehow settled our emotions to some degree. Aunt Kathy, mommy and daddy went into the kitchen after telling Tammy, Teala, Amy, and me to stay in Amy's room for a while so they could talk. "It's not fair! It's Christmas! Now everyone is sad!" I said as I cried. Tammy held me. Amy also leaned in close to us and cuddled as we sat in Amy's crib. "Shhh baby, things will be ok. We are still alive." "Yeah but for how long. What if they drop one on Atlanta, we'll be done!" Teala said while crying. "We all know the Lord, and if we have to die today, we know where we're going." Tammy said calmly. "Yeah but." Teala said as she just shook her head. "I wish I was dead." Amy said. "No you don't!" I said as I looked her in the eye. "I love you." I said as I hugged her tight. Meanwhile in the kitchen, Mom, Kathy, and Daddy were sitting at the table in silence. "The guy on the radio said that Miami took a hard hit and that the fallout is as far north as Palm Beach. I don't know if it will be safe for us to go home." Dad said plainly. "But honey what of all of our friends at church, and the girls, all there friends, do you think they will be able to take shelter and stay safe from any other fall out?" Mom said while nervously fidgeting with her fingers. "Some will, but not all. There's no central media on TV. Also the EMP blast may have damaged equipment for miles and miles. Some people may not be able to tune into any broadcasts for instructions at all." Dad said. "I thought nuclear bombs only could take out 3 or 4 miles?" Aunt Kathy asked. "Well those are the 300 and 400 Kiloton bombs. I have a feeling these were much bigger. Say around 20 to 50 megatons. Just like the ones Russia had during the cold war," daddy said. "Wait a minute, you mean these bombs are big enough to..." mom paused. "If they wanted to, they could use 100 megaton bombs and wipe out 2 counties per bomb. I just thank God they didn't." dad sighed. "There's another problem." Aunt Kathy said with a worried look in her eye. "Atlanta." Dad and Kathy said at once. "Yes, how do you know they're finished." Mom said. "Atlanta has the major airport and a few bases around it and it's a decent sized city." Aunt Kathy said. "And it's also a major communications hub for the internet for the southeast region of the country. It is a provable target. Do you have a map Kathy?" dad asked. She got up from the table and went through some stuff in a closet in her room and came back out. After looking at it for a while daddy sat back in his chair. "We are 32 miles as the crow flies. Which means on a 20 megaton impact in downtown Atlanta, we would be in the shockwave area, as well as the thermal energy, which means that when you see the white light, you will be burned. Also from our distance, the shockwave pressure would be above 5PSI which would cause structures to shatter, and eardrums to be damaged. Also even if we survived the thermal, and the shockwave, the hurricane force fire storm would be here 10 to 20 minutes after the blast. By then all structures will have been compromised and the fire would just finish everything off. And to top that off, if you survived all that, you would still be exposed to fall out, depending on what type of blast, weather an air burst, or a near ground blast. So, my opinion is we need to get the kids, and go as far from any major city or military base as possible. Mom sighed. Aunt Kathy started pacing. Dad stared at the Atlas that Kathy had found. He studied it carefully looking for a place that would be far enough away. "We need to be away from the ocean, incase the detonate one at sea, which could cause a large title wave. I say we head for the mountains. "I know some places in Tennessee." Dad said. "Wait a minute, we're East of Atlanta, we'd have to go even closer to the possible target to get where we need to go!" Aunt Kathy said as she was looking even more worried. "We will go around it, not near it. We will keep as far from it as possible. Now what we need, besides constant prayer, is to stock up on survival supplies. Kathy, you, and Tonya and I are taking the truck into town. Money is no object. We may not be able to go home if the bombs keep falling." Dad said. Meanwhile back in Amy's room mom came in. "Hi girls, We're going to go into town to get some things, and we will be back in a few hours. We're going to go into the mountains tonight. It's not safe to stay here." Mom said. "But mommy!" I cried. "Tiff, hun, I love you, but right now, I need you to be a big girl for mommy, it's very important ok sweetie?" she said while she hugged me and gave me a kiss. "OK mommy. I will." I said. She gave us orders to pack warm clothes, and to get all the cloth diapers washed so we could take them. Also Amy was in the kitchen cooking a meal for everyone to eat before we left. Dad took the truck, and Kathy and mom took the car to the gas station and filled three gas cans full. The town was crowded and confusion was everywhere. The military was moving in and enforcing martial law. Dad knew that they would have to take a back way out and avoid all road blocks because the military would be trying to keep everyone put where they were. Daddy filled the truck cab with M.R.E. and other survival gear. He came home and yelled for us girls to unload the truck. We hurried. He then went back into town again to get some other things. Dinner was ready, Tammy and Amy made sure all us kids ate and got a bath, we weren't sure when we'd get one again. Everyone was holding up emotionally. It was all about survival now. We had to stay focused. Finally everyone was back at the house. The grown-ups ate and then sat down for a moment to plan things. There was no time to waste either. Mom and dad both had a sense that time was running out. We carefully packed Aunt Kathy's truck to the hilt. We had sleeping gear, food, guns, ammunition, some of which Aunt Kathy had around the house, but dad had also bought a few things. People were selling weapons and not even worrying about the laws pertaining to weapons sales. Daddy, mommy and Aunt Kathy piled into the front of the truck. Tammy, Teala, Amy and I in the back. It was a tight fit. We held stuff on our laps and under our feet. The back cab was loaded down and covered with a tarp. We pulled out of the drive way and mom lead us into prayer. "Father God, we are embarking on a dangerous mission. We have enough gasoline to blow ourselves up, the roads are chaotic, bombs could fall any time. We realize this situation, and as humans, we are afraid. We've felt the leading of your spirit to leave where we were and to set out to a place that you will show us. Just like Abraham so many years ago, we are venturing out in faith. Lord, please protect our us, allow our supplies to go a long way, for our food to last, and for your protection not only while we find this place, but even after we are there. Please guide us at every turn, give us peace, and wisdom. Lord I pray for our friends in Florida, that you have made a way for them to seek shelter. I pray for those who have been lost today. Be with there families God, and be with those who still live, help our government to stop this attack before move lives are lost. We believe you have a plan for our family Lord, and I know the enemy would have us be destroyed, but Greater are you Lord. We put our faith only in you, and our lives into your hands. Lord God, we thank you, we trust you, and we need you. Thank you for your Son Jesus, thank you for your Holy Spirit which dwells in us. Guide us as we go. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen." We were all silent for a while. Each one of us were making peace with the situation, to come to grips with what could happen, and to keep sane and not be swept away by what could happen. "Mommy?" "I asked softly. "Yes?" mommy said. "I'm really wet and soggy in my diaper and I think it's leaking." I said. "Honey, you're just gonna have to sit in your wet pants sweetie, we can't stop to change you and since there is so much stuff piled in the back with you, it's impossible to change you." Mom said as she sighed. "But I itchy." I said. "I know, so am I. Mommy wet her diaper too." She said as she reached her hand back and gently patted my head. "We'll be there soon, why don't you go to sleep for a while ok?" moms aid softly. "Otay momma." I said. I could tell that Teala and Tammy were both squirming in there didees. They were probably wet too. Amy did number two in her diaper but she didn't say anything at all. She didn't smell to bad though, so it was livable. I knew we were all going to have diaper rash by morning, but mom was right, what could we do. I woke up, stiff and my hiney was sore. My neck and back was hurting from being still. The sun was out. The roads were packed. Daddy was stuck in traffic. He then went off road and headed west through a dirt road. The road went on and on. We came out to where another section of the interstate was. This portion was moving along much better. "There must have been an accident back there that blocked it." Dad said as he sped up. "Hold on girls, we're gonna have a bumpy ride." He said as he merged from the rough terrain and onto the road. We slid and our tires squealed as we almost lost control but then corrected and got into the right lane. We all sighed in relief. "That was a close one." Aunt Kathy said. We all laughed for the first time since this nightmare had begun. We crossed into Tennessee. We were in a rural area. We decided to pull off onto a dirt road. We needed to get out and stretch and have our didees changed. Mom and dad lifted the stuff off of our laps and we crawled out. We were so stiff we could barely move. My jeans had a wet spot from my leaky diaper. Dad cleaned up the backseat with a wet wipe while mommy and Aunt Kathy changed our diapers right out by the road while laying on a blanket in the grass. My hiney was read and so mommy put diaper rash cream on it. Same went for the other girls. Kathy changed mommy. She had a rash too. Daddy was standing on the other side of the truck. Mom walked up to him. He was making poo in his diaper. Mommy changed him when he finished. We all had plenty of powder and cream on our bottoms. We had a bite to eat while standing around the truck. We got back in and got situated and continued driving. We found some mountains. We drove through and then Tammy spotted a cave off of the dirt road we were on. It was a fairly decent cave, big enough to stand in. Daddy and Kathy went in first to check it out with flash lights. They came back out. "This is going to be our sleeping area. It's very cool, not very damp, and these mountains and rocks have a lot of lead in them. Which means even if there is a blast nearby, we'll be protected." Dad said. "Daddy it's dark in there how are we going to see?" I said. "We have lanterns. Mom said as she pilled them with lantern oil. We each had one lantern, and we set them around in the area we would be setting up camp. Dad cleared some debris from the ground and we setup our tents with our sleeping bags. Even though in the cave, a tent would still help keep us safe from any small animals or cold wind gusts. At the mouth of the cave we started a fire after daddy got some fire wood. Mom had only brought a few disposable diapers with us, so that when we finished the 2 packs we brought, we'd be in cloth all the time. Which meant we would have to wash them in a river somehow. Mom was explaining to us girls. "Mom, I don't need to wear diapers." Tammy said. "What about if you wet at night?" "Ok but just at night. That way all I have to do is dunk them in the water and let them dry." Tammy said. "Yep that'll work." Mom said. "Mommy?" Teala asked? "Yes hun?" "I'll try not to go poo in my diapers. I'll just pull them down when I have to go. But I don't know if I can control going pee though." She said. "It's ok sweetie, just do the best you can." "Mommy, do you want me to be potty trained?" I asked. Mom was quiet for a moment. "I'll tell ya what honey baby, why don't you try to tell mommy when you have to go number two, and I'll take you to go potty, but when you have to wet, just go in your diapers. And if you really feel like you need to be a baby and go messy in your baby pants, it's ok honey." Mom said while hugging me. "I'll try to be a big girl sometimes so we don't have to wash messy diapers mommy." Mom just smiled. We then each had an M.R.E. for dinner. They weren't much but daddy said it was more about survival than about being totally satisfied. "Listen, we're going to have to make lots of sacrifices to make this work. We wont eat nearly as much each day, and we will try to fast for 5 days and then eat small amounts for five. We need to pray and fast, as well as conserve our food supply. We were at the entrance to our cave where we had our camp fire going. We had already finished setting up everything. We sat around the fire. "Mommy, I have to go poo." Teala said as she stood up. "Honey where should we go at?" mom asked dad? "Follow me if ya gotta go potty." Daddy said as we all followed him. Mommy picked up some wipes from one of the diaper bags and brought it with us. There was a place that daddy had dug a huge trench that sloped down the hill into a valley. Mommy took Teala's diaper down and let her squat down to go poo. I had to go pee so I squatted next to Teala. "Mom, we don't have any privacy at all now." Tammy whined." "I know sweetie but maybe we can build a little divider or something and make a makeshift seat. Tomorrow." Mom said. "Yeah, We will have time tomorrow to do that." Dad said. Aunt Kathy helped her daughter squat down to go tinkle. After Teala was done, mommy wiped her hiney with a couple baby wipes. After we all went potty we went back over to our camp fire. We sat around a while. We talked about our plans for making our camp site, and cave, as homey as possible. Just then we noticed a flash of light, it seemed like lightening it was so bright. "Cover your eyes!" Dad yelled. We all closed our eyes and put our hands over them. It was so bright that it kind of hurt. A few seconds later, we could hear a loud rumble from a distance. "Oh my..." dad said. "Did they drop another one?" "Yes, it was to the east I think. But it was hard to tell because it lit up everything." Dad said. "I think we need to get in our cave and get some sleep. Who knows what else is going to happen tonight." Aunt Kathy said as she took her lantern and lit it. Mom and dad did the same with ours. We carried them into the dark cave. Even with the lanterns, it was still very dark. I was so scared. I held onto Tammy as we walked down into the area where our tents were. "I think we're all going to need diapers at night. It'll be impossible to find our way out alone, and I don't want anyone getting lost, or hurt." Daddy said. "Well I guess that means changing and washing poopy diapers after all mom said. "Oh well, We're just gonna have to learn to deal with that aspect of it now." Aunt Kathy said. Tammy and Teala were in one tent, I was crammed in Mommy and daddy's tent, and Amy and Kathy. Even from down in the cave we saw two more flashes of light that night before falling asleep. We would later learn that those the three flashes we saw that night were San Antonio, Atlanta, and Denver. Since the night was so clear, and we were at a high elevation, it allowed the light from the blast to travel over a thousand miles. We learned this later on the next day while listening to reports on the shortwave radio. We slept on and off that night. Even though the sleeping bags were comfortable, and the temperature was nice, we were to emotionally worn out to be able to think straight. We just laid there dozing off from time to time, and then waking up for a while. Morning came and Aunt Kathy Mom and dad made a dash for the bathroom area. They had held it all night instead of going in there diapers. Tammy and Teala had wet there diapers. I also had wet mine and made a little messy in it. We decided that we would go in the river with our clothes and diapers on and get clean while we washed our clothes and diapers. It was really cold but we got used to it after a while. "Mommy took my diaper off of me while in the water and began to wring it out and to use a scrubbing board with some lie soap. We took off all our clothes and ran back to our tents to get changed. We were freezing! Mom was right, there was a lot to get used to. We had to learn to deal with not having privacy, and the usual comforts of home, and also less food, less entertainment, and so on. Over the next few days we all went through our emotional ways of coping with this new way of life. Many times one of us kids would throw a tantrum and run off to be alone and cry for what seemed like forever. The first week was rough but after that we seemed to be doing better. We all had to act out the stress in our own way. Even I got mad and yelled at mommy a couple times. But even with all the stress, we still all loved each other very much. One morning I crawled into mommy's tent. Daddy was making breakfast on the open fire. Mommy breast fed me for the first time since any of this had happened. She let me cuddle with her and have my baby time. She told me that she also was breastfeeding Teala now to because it really calmed her down a lot when she would get scared. I thought it was so nice of her to show such love for us. Our family bonded quite a bit as the days went on. I even got the hang of telling mommy when I had to go messy and she would take me to our little potty. Daddy had made 4 stalls with little seats that you could sit on that were over the trench that went down the mountain side. One afternoon we were eating lunch and just talking about how far we'd come in adapting to this new living situation. "Yeah this place isn't so bad now. And it's nice to be able to take a dump in peace now since daddy put up the 4 bathroom stalls." She said. We all laughed. We washed our hands in a bucket of water we had brought up from the stream. "Mommy, I have to go poo." I said. "Aww, does my baby have to go poopypoo?" mommy teased me. I blushed. "Yes, me do." "Aww. Well I'll tell you what, since you've been such a good little girl for mommy, why don't you just go in your diaper and be a little baby today, it's ok mommy doesn't mind. I'm totally used to cleaning your diapers anyway, so really, it's ok if you want to go in your baby pants." Mommy said while holding me in her lap while I loaded my didees. "Aww that's my girl." She said while she rocked me and then let me sit in her lap. "All squishy and mushy?" mommy asked as she held me close to her. "Yes mommy, me likes." I know you do baby." Mommy just held me for what seemed like forever. A few weeks went by. We had learned how to hunt and grow things and live off the land. Our M.R.E supply was dwindling but it didn't matter so much now. On the radio they had announced that they had caught all the rest of the men with the nuclear weapons and put a stop to the attacks. They said that it was safe to return to cities that were at least 200 miles from detonation sites. Luckily, only Miami was hit in our state, and we were 260 miles north of Miami. Unfortunately for Aunt Kathy and Amy, there whole area was burned and polluted. The detonation in Atlanta had a blast zone of 15 miles, and thermo radiation for 100 miles, shock wave for 70 miles, and fall out for 145 miles. Kathy and Amy cried when they realized all they had was lost. If we had stayed there, we would have been dead. We thanked God for his guidance and for our survival. Of course we brought Amy and Kathy home with us. Even though I knew our town was still standing, I kept having fears that there would be no one alive. Amy held me all the way home. When we pulled in it was like a ghost town. Everything was fine, but you could tell that people had left and hadn't returned yet. We turned onto my road, and pulled into the driveway. Everything was just as it was when we left. I immediately got on the phone called Robert. He was home! I then called Laura, and Emily, they were both home too! Since we didn't get a chance to have Christmas, and since school was still canceled until March 21'st to allow people to resettle, we decided to have the best Christmas ever, even though it was in January. We chose to do it on the 15'th. It was a cold day. Daddy put up Christmas lights and a tree and everything. We invited all our neighbors and Family. Our Grandpa was still in hiding some where. His town was not destroyed but he had left his home to be on the safe side. Us girls were back to wearing our didees and being lazy and being silly babies. While us kids played every day and had fun, Daddy and Mommy were building an addition to our house for Aunt Kathy, and Amy. He extended the hallway so that after mine and Tammy's rooms, instead of a hall closet, the hall kept going, and Amy would have the room next to the bathroom, and Aunt Kathy would have a room next to Tammy's room. Soon after school started, daddy had the extension finished. He could finally have his office back, and work late nights since Kathy had her own room now. Everything was working out good for us, but it was sad to see all the people who lost so much, and who ere displaced from not only there home, but there whole town and city. Our government did a good job at bringing stability to our nation after the tragedy. They captured all the key leaders in the terrorist organization and had begun trials immediately. The American people demanded action and justice. People were settling into new towns but life was far from normal. My birthday was in January, but we were to busy trying to get back to normal to really celebrate it. I didn't even feel like it. I was so grieved at that point for all those who died. Even now I still feel sad for the losses we took. The pictures of total destruction of our cities, still haunts me. I spent most of the end of the school year seeing Mrs. Woods twice a week just talking through all the issues. It helped me a great deal. It was now the end of June, we still had one more full month of school left because we started back late. Our economy was still in shambles due to the loss of so much information and resources, but our spirits were high. There were shortages for many products including disposable diapers. Luckily our family was used to having cloth ones, so we were able to manage without disposables. Mommy even showed some of the mothers at our church how to sew them for there babies and small children. People were really banding together to make it through these hard times. I began to appreciate my friends and family so much more, I began to savor each day. I began to enjoy all the aspects of my life, even my baby side. Life is a precious gift, and if nothing else this made me see how precious and fragile it really is. Our family grew closer to the Lord then ever, as did many people in our church and in other churches. The tragedy ushered in a new era of revival. People gave there lives to the Lord, and as a whole, America changed a great deal. This chapter of my life was one of the most difficult for me to write. I love you all, and I know this may have been a hard chapter to read, but it could not go untold. Stay tuned for more of "Tiffany's Diaper Tales!" *Hugs!*
