Chapter 19
After the cell door shut, Sesshomaru walked down the hall. When he was sure Inuyasha couldn’t hear, he stopped and looked at the rat youkai, “Could the venom have caused what he described?”
Nodding, the healer said quietly, “Yes. From what I’ve seen of it so far it’s intended to fuel the youkai and cause it to over-ride everything else.
“Lord Inuyasha took in enough venom to force me and most other youkai to give in to their beast. I don’t know how he fought it off for as long as he did.”
Looking over his shoulder at the guards, he said, “Take him up to the room next to mine. Make sure he gets cleaned up then take him to my study and tell the kitchen to get him something to eat.”
With that Sesshomaru walked away and headed upstairs.

Quietly, he let himself into his chambers then slid into bed behind Kagome.
Looking down at her beautiful, peaceful face he felt his cold heart thaw a bit as it always seemed to when he was with her. His mate, his beautiful, loving mate.
At this point he had heard everyone’s version of what happened but hers. By now he was sure Inuyasha wasn’t responsible for what happened but Naraku was. He had targeted the hanyou knowing full well that he would tend to go after him and kill before trying to figure out why if it had something to do with Kagome. It was sheer luck and Kagome making him promise to look into it that had stopped him.
“Sesshomaru?” She asked quietly as she started waking.
“Yes Kagome.” He said, kissing her on top of the head.
Turning over, she curled up to his chest.
Stroking her back softly, being mindful of her injuries, he held her. “Kagome, tell me what happened when Inuyasha attacked.”
Hitching a deep sigh, she slowly told him everything she saw in the greatest detail she could, knowing full well even the most minor details could be of vital importance.
Listening, he heard her re-iterate much the same story as everyone else. Knowing her the way he did, he knew she didn’t care about herself or her injuries, but was worried about her friends and, probably mostly, about Inuyasha.
When she finished, he nuzzled her head softly. Before she could say anything else, he jumped in. “You were right, there was something wrong with the half-breed and it wasn’t his fault.” Slowly, he walked her though what they knew and had found out.
When he finished, she buried her face in his chest and began to cry softly. Womens’ tears for him, like most men, were a foreign thing that left him feeling like a fool because he wasn’t sure how to deal with them but he understood these. She was crying for all the pain her best friend had to suffer through because of Naraku. Holding her, he just stroked her back softly until they dried up. Yet again, his heart swelled a bit more in pride over his wonderful, caring mate.
When her tears dried up, he slid out of bed. Grabbing his robe, he wrapped it around her then picked her up and carried her down to his study.
His ass hadn’t hit the seat of his chair when Inuyasha threw himself on them and buried his face in Kagomes’ stomach, apologizing over and over for what had happened.
Wrapping her arms around his head, she stroked his hair as she felt his tears dripping onto her. Soothingly, she just kept telling him it was alright, that it wasn’t his fault.
Though he was sure the ookami could smell the tears, no one else could see or hear him crying. So that no one else could see, Sesshomaru reached down and rubbed the boys back a couple times to let him know he wasn’t mad.
When Inuyasha calmed down, he sat back down and they began to discuss how to combat Narakus’ latest threat and what to do if it happened again. While talking, Kagome curled up to Sesshomaru then slowly drifted back to sleep.
Feeling her slowly slide back to the realm of dreams, he held her close and started that soothing rumble in his chest that she liked so much. Looking down at her, he lost track of the conversation and just looked at her.
His mate.
His Kagome…
