Review:
I'm a masters candidate, as some of you might know, working part time towards my second doctorate. I'm in no rush and hardly bragging, believe me; the world is full of doctors asking people, "Would you like to super-size those French fries?"
I only bring it up because I'm thinking of changing my master's thesis to something exploring misogyny and how anti-social behavior is expressed through internet pornography. How a small, but not insignificant portion of "erotica" is dedicated to the degradation of women. Plainly there are many psychological factors at work and I'd have to touch upon a number of them, but less at the root causes than the compulsive desire to find what many would argue to be a "safe" outlet.
With that in mind, it seems possible to me that I could draw upon examples posted to sites like SOL and formulate hypothesis from the convenient database maintained. Admittedly the numbers by themselves are hardly conclusive and offer only a minimal suggestion as to wide-spread social opinion, but it is a starting point. I believe that combining the resources available here with my own independent studies will offer a unique perspective on "passive" misogynistic behavior; that is, non-confrontational expression of resentment, anger, or violence towards women through the fantasy of pornography.
A case in point would be this story - "Making a Baby" by the author "Jamall" – which tells the story of a man clearly unable to function as a healthy member of a homogenous society. Women are second class citizens known as "cunts" and offer his world-view nothing but an impersonal opportunity for breeding. The narrator possesses no redeeming qualities. His opinions are negative and I'd suggest that his hatred for the opposite sex a reflection of his own low self-esteem. He is unloved and unwanted, but unable to accept or even recognize the reasons for his rejection.
In his mind, the narrator has determined that he must prey on immature females who are unable to defend themselves. Of course, being a fantasy, the preteen girls in question conform exactly to his expectations. They are unintelligent, indecisive, and view themselves as sexual objects existing only for the pleasure of men. So too the other inhabitants of this imaginary world, the parents who turn their child into a whore to pay for her unwanted pregnancy. There is no respite, no opportunity for redemption, and the entire premise allows no room for sympathy or even pity. The characters reside in a vacuum of emotion.
So far as entertainment is concerned, I'd have to suggest that Jamall work on his spelling and grammar, dedicate a little more effort to character development, and examine the potential for plots more significant than, "A man knocks up a little girl and dumps her." It's an interesting glimpse into aberrant psychology, but just not that much fun to read for the rest us. As a data point comprising scores and downloads over the last 7 years, however, this story and others like it may prove invaluable.
...or maybe not.
